Michael Bryant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bryant1.png
"It's just like in Zombie Neighbor."
A human Crown Paladin played by Edward Bosco. A brash, somewhat temperamental man who has watched way too many cop movies and has a very skewed idea of how things are supposed to work at the police department. Though he's sometimes lazy in his paperwork, he's always willing to throw himself into danger to protect others.
  • Big Eater: He eats a lot more than the rest of the group to the point that he's the exception to people trying to pay for the group's whole meal.
  • Cowboy Cop: Seems to believe police departments in real life operate the way they do in the movies. This disparity has caused him a lot of grief.
  • Damager, Healer, Tank: The tank of the group, with lots of hit points and some skills that help him keep enemy attention on him.
  • Fantastic Racism: Michael's opinion of lycanthropes is so low and so aggressive that Captain Roche worriedly asks Gibby while watching an interrogation if he's a "Purist".
  • Freudian Excuse: His extremely prickly and abrasive behavior is the result of years of trying to hide his ability to perceive the dead and not interact with them, resulting in years of to others would've been unexplainable mood swings.
  • Friendly Ghost: Michael's apartment appears to be haunted... by a ghost that does his laundry and makes him breakfast in the morning. And Michael is terrified of it.
  • Genre Deconstruction: Michael is finding out over and over again that being a Cowboy Cop only works in TV Shows. Acting like that in "real life" will only put people off talking to you in high-stress situations, get you into conflict with your bosses and co-workers, and in general make you a much less effective officer of the peace, forcing him into a bit role in his own squad, and to take a paycut.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Tries to invoke this trope when talking to a powerful fae, and almost immediately regrets it.
  • Good Is Not Nice: As a Paladin sworn to the Oath of the Crown, Michael is honorable, devoted, and will always keep his promises. He's also entirely willing to lie, steal and kill to accomplish his goals, and he's the only one of the Prince Division to regularly employ lethal damage against suspects.
  • Hereditary Curse: Is distantly related to "The Fifteen", the group of fifteen people who helped Kazmodius ascend to lichdom.
  • Hypocrite: He absolutely hates it when Dragons indicate racial superiority to humans, but he's not above using racial slurs against them.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: As he admits to Lady O'Dellia, he hates his powers, and his circumstances.
  • I See Dead People: He can actually see the apparition in his apartment, something nobody else has the capacity to in his party. He can also see an apparition in the precinct that has apparently taken an interest in Gibby, indicating that he as a natural ability to see ghosts and other ethereal undead.
  • Jerkass: He's easily the most abrasive member of the group and his mouth tends to get him in trouble.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his Jerkass tendencies, he is prone to random acts of kindness. It's clear he has more of a good heart than he puts on more to keep from getting hurt.
  • Manchild: He has a lot of tendencies of this; over-idolizing cop shows, playing video games until the wee hours of the morning, and other such things.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Out of character example, Michael's entire name is a combination of star NBA players Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
  • Odd Friendship: Seems to have developed a strange quasi-friendship with Caustimire. They act like they don't like each other, but they're willing to help each other out, be it giving each other advice or breaking into the locked offices of the Necromancy Division.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • When he realizes the truth about Caustimire's relationship with Teryn, he immediately begins acting a lot nicer with her.
    • He's actually quite kind and empathetic to Haley when they finally meet.
  • Police Brutality: Engages in needless violence from time to time including attacking a surrendering suspect and needlessly killing a culprit's guards even after Tannis told him to fight nonlethally. He naturally gets suspended and takes a paycut when he ends up pointlessly assaulting a person in the division's custody.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: His default response to the supernatural or to most things that confront him with anything he cannot brush off in general is to just leave, which is exactly what he does when the ghost in his apartment starts making itself known.
  • Unknown Rival: Holds a shocking amount of enmity towards Zobie for no apparent reason, though he finally relents after being intimidated by him.

Virro Tannis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tannis1.png
"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without."
An elf Kensei Monk played by Connor, AKA DistortionDevil. A single divorced father raising his teenage daughter while also solving crimes. Probably the most level-headed of the group, he also often winds up being the group's driver.
  • Action Dad: Beats down supernatural bad guys with his bare hands, and also tries to be a good father to his daughter.
  • Amicable Exes: Is still on reasonably good terms with his ex-wife, despite their divorce.
  • The Comically Serious: Virro's generally relaxed and even-toned manner of speaking sometimes results in this.
  • Cool Shades: Typically sports a pair of aviator shades.
  • Damager, Healer, Tank: Shares the "damager" role with Lauren, using the extra attacks he gets as a monk to full effect.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: His fight-pit name? One that inspires fear after whipping the ass of nearly everybody who's ever fought him? "Squirrel".
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: While he uses weapons more than most monks, being a kensei, he still knows how to throw a hard punch if his weapons are unavailable.
  • Lightning Bruiser: As a monk, he gets a ridiculous amount of movement speed and can dish out an equally ridiculous amount of damage.
  • My Greatest Failure: Tannis blames himself for however briefly, ending up putting himself, and his brother and sister out on the street due to how he acted in his youth. His siblings, for what it's worth, don't seem terribly bothered as they landed on their feet pretty easily.
  • Not So Stoic:
    • During the fight pit section where he's winning nearly every match without a scratch, he begins to show a lot more personality and clearly being a lot more standoffish and aggressive. This comes back to bite him in the ass when he gets too involved in the fights and completely one-hit KO's the fightpit's champion he was supposed to take a dive for.
    • Apparently in his past, he was overly aggressive and angry kid, and he's been trying to keep that side of himself down for decades.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Tannis did not have it easy growing up: he and his two siblings were orphaned at an early age, and he was so paranoid about his siblings being hurt that he became a holy terror: picking fights, being pointlessly aggressive and protective, and eventually got all three put out on the street because his bad behavior meant nobody in their right mind would adopt any of them.
  • Phrase Catcher: is repeatedly referred to as "A Good Dad" after Khel's first cast of Guidance.
  • The Stoic: Definitely the most reserved member of the group and often speaks in a calm, even tone. This lands him the job of being the group's face most of the time (despite his low Charisma score).
  • Warrior Poet: He will calmly quote Confucius at you while kicking your ass.

Khel Zouren

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/khel1.png
A Half-Dragon (Dragonborn) Life Cleric played by Arcolf. A former ice cream truck driver turned police officer whose primary goal in life is to make other people smile. He's the friendliest member of the group by far, who always tries to resolve situations peacefully when he can.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Possibly the nicest guy in the entire series, but don't threaten his friends unless you want to get beat down with an ice cream cone. Extends later when he gets lied to by a Manticore, who he threatens great vengeance upon.
  • Combat Medic: He can dish it out as well as he can take it, when he chooses to.
  • Cuddle Bug: He's a hugger.
  • Damager, Healer, Tank: The healer of the group, obviously.
  • Dragon Ancestry: His mother is a white dragon, his father is a human. They mostly get along, but his parents' busy jobs mean they don't really spend a lot of time together.
  • Gentle Giant: He's the largest member of the squad and has a very imposing and intimidating appearance. He's also a total sweetheart.
  • Gonk: His face is far more draconic than even other dragonborn, and as a result he looks a little unsettling. He even manages to make that work for him by convincing a small child that he's actually a dinosaur.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: See Dragon Ancestry.
  • Honor Before Reason: He makes it a point to pay for all meals the party eats and is extremely deferential to his fellow party members
  • Like Father, Like Son: Both Khel and his father are extremely nice and extremely dorky, they even share their signature "hello"
  • Nice Guy: Easily one of the top contenders for "Nicest Person in Rampoon City" thanks to his bright, friendly demeanor.
  • Serious Business: Ice Cream. He judges all other places that sell it fiercely.
  • White Mage: As a Life Domain Cleric, he specializes in healing magic, which has saved his party more than once.

Lauren Gibby

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gibby1.png
"I'm trying not to be the girl everything bad happens to."
A Human Wild Magic-Sorcerer played by Sarah Williams. Originally from the land of "Bindiana", She gained her powers through an incident she prefers not to discuss. Due to being a princess herself, she often finds herself at the center of trouble, even though she'd prefer to be anywhere but the center of trouble. She's the most competent investigator of the group, which is to say she's the only one who is proficient in the Investigation skill.

Her Princess Sub-conditions: Aurafold, Celestial Embrace, and Surge.

  • Anti-Magic: Celestial Embrace is effectively a permanent Protection From Evil and Good spell on her that works on Angels and the like, but also attracts Celestials to her, since they can notice it.
  • Country Mouse: She's from a small town far outside of Rampoon, and so a lot of the city's curiosities tend to overwhelm her a bit.
  • Covert Pervert: When Durzub attempts to explain the Orc idea of kissing to Gibby, he attempts to explain it would be the same thing as if he openly grabbed her butt in public. Her response is that she was more or less completely okay with that, leaving him at a complete loss for words.
  • Damager, Healer, Tank: Shares the "damager" role with Tannis, although she relies on her magic instead of weapons.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She very clearly does not want to talk about the incident that revealed that she was a Princess, even referring to it only vaguely with her own family.
  • Living MacGuffin: Discovered she was a princess while investigating the first case. She's still not sure how to deal with that.
  • I'm Having Soul Pains: Her "Aurafold" sub-condition allows her to use spells to cut down on her own radiating princess energies, but if she uses her magic too much, she could end up taking years off her life in a way that could be completely undetectable at first, but eventually lead to what could best be described as internal injuries.
  • Living Lie Detector: How she typically employs the Detect Thoughts spell.
  • Pint-Size Powerhouse: She's the only character under 5'9 in the party, though through a wild magic surge, she accidentally and permanently grows two inches taller, bringing her all the way up to...5'6.
  • Power Incontinence: She's had occasional flare-ups and "fluxes", one particular one melted a copier at her old temp job.
  • Nice Girl: She's very kind and even-tempered and cares a great deal for the personal well-being of both her teammates and the Princes and Princesses they're charged with protecting.
  • Random Effect Spell: Her favorite attack is Chaos Bolt, which deals a random element for damage. Also applies more generally as she has wild magic, meaning any non-cantrip spell she casts can trigger a random additional effect.
  • Reality Warper: As she's reached level 5, she gained the Tides of Chaos ability, which allows her to induce re-rolls in exchange for rolling on the Wild Magic table, or taken at the DM's discretion. And given the Prince Division's luck with Roll20, she burns through all of it for the day in a single combat encounter.
  • Squishy Wizard: Part and parcel of being a Sorcerer, though she is able to mitigate this with her Mage Armor spell.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Realizes at some point that she's being tailed by a limousine. This is particularly concerning for her given that she's a princess and there are people who want her for her power. It is later revealed the limousine belongs to Riggagan, the 'mayor' of the Heaven's Ward and a very powerful Celestial.

    Rampoon City Police Department

Officer Lucy Borroughs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucy_06.png
"You know me! Always a go-getter..."
The Prince Division's overworked secretary. A cute tiefling girl who's too nice for her own good and too much of a pushover not to be bossed around by other officers. Tended to spend most of her time taking care of other people's paperwork, at least until the new officers arrived.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: For entire police department generally. With the Prince Division basically defunct, she had spent most of her time taking care of other people's paperwork.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Has a pair of fangs, but they only add to her charm.
  • Extreme Doormat: Before the other members of the Prince Division arrived, she got walked over by the others in the police department, with barely a complaint. Things have improved somewhat since then, though.
  • Girlfriend in Canada: Subverted. The players think this is what's going on when Lucy mentions having a boyfriend, until he actually shows up to visit.

Captain Marcus Roche

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chiefroche.png
"The Prince Division works as a team, or not at all. No exceptions."
The Captain of the Rampoon Police Department, who had previously been sent into a depressive state after the deaths of the previous Prince Division. News of the group's success against a Yeth hound in the first case knocked him out of his funk, however.
  • Da Chief: Fills this role generally, but particularly gets into it with Michael, who is more of a loose cannon than the rest of the group.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Crossed it when the previous Prince Division got wiped out. He's since recovered somewhat after the new members proved they could handle themselves.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's very conscious of his subordinates' needs, and works hard to help them.

Chief of Police Riddle

A tiger-man who is in charge of the entire Rampoon Police department

Officer Tyler

A young man with dark, military-cut hair. He has a low opinion of the Prince Division, leading to his Embarrassing Nickname by them.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Nicknamed "Officer Douchebag" by the Prince Division after a hazing stunt he pulled on them when they first arrived.
  • Initiation Ceremony: Comes up with a "test" for the Prince Division intended to haze them. It didn't go so well for him or his buddies.

Officer Grey

The officer stationed at the front desk at the police department. She's responsible for checking everyone in when they arrive for their shift, and was the first face the party saw when they arrived for their jobs.
  • Ms. Exposition: Served as the opening introduction to the Prince Division as a whole.

The Postal Division

The section of the Police Department dedicated to investigating offenses related to the mail. Consists entirely of buff, hard-bitten men who take their jobs very, very seriously.
  • Serious Business: Considering how they reacted to it, mail fraud is not to be taken lightly.
  • Truth in Television: In the real world, postal inspectors handle a wide variety of mail-related crimes, which includes things as minor as counterfeited stamps, to things as dangerous as mail bombs, and penalties for such crimes are often usually maxed out and include life imprisonment in some cases. In other words, you do not want to mess with postal inspectors.

The Tech Division

The section of the Police Department that handles tech-related issues like cameras, cellphones, and other devices. Can usually be heard listening to loud techno music. Consists of the highly sarcastic Officer Dibalt and the obsessive Officer Shern.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Officer Dibalt earns the nickname "Officer Asshole," although unlike Officer Tyler's nickname, it's mostly taken in jest.
  • Incessant Music Madness: Michael is not a fan of the tech division's choices in music. After much complaining, they agree to turn it off (at least when the Prince Division is around, anyway).
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Officer Dibalt warns the Prince Division that, despite his small size (being a kobold), Officer Shern is quite dangerous when angered.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: They might be a tech department, but the kind of Super spy gadgetry Michael suggests they get only ever comes back with a "You're joking".

The Forensics Lab

Handles the processing of all the (non-technological) evidence the Police procures, Which includes fingerprints, DNA, analysis of chemical/arcane residue, and bodies in the morgue. It is staffed by Dr. Rebecca Bell, and lab techs Gen Fischer and Stephanie Stanford.
  • Amazon Brigade: Non-combat example, although arguably quite threatening in their own way. The entire lab is run by women, and the entire Department relies on them for their technical expertise.
  • The Gadfly: Gen constantly snipes at Stephanie when she engages in Buffy Speak whenever discussing a body that ends up in their morgue.

The Necromancy Division

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/necromancydivision1.png
They who fight what goes bump in the night.note
A deeply enigmatic division in the RCPD, The Necromancy Division's doors are almost always closed and nobody is seen going in or out, due to the small division and due to their cases taking a long, long time to resolve. It is notable in that the Lich who runs the Lich ward placed a curse on the division so that there is no captain, and there are consequences for any who try...
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Avu is almost 7 feet tall, and Rire's 5'7.
  • Curse: The Necromancy Division is cursed to never have a head of department, thanks to a grudge the lich has on the Necromancy Division, and as Michael found out, the captain's desk causes necrotic damage to anyone who even thinks of touching it.
  • The Dreaded: While they aren't liked, they're respected absolutely, not only for doing a job so dangerous other cops couldn't possibly do, but for just being capable of doing a job other cops couldn't possibly do. Baron Drumarr wants the police in general out of the Fiend Ward for meddling, is quite concerned if any of the Prince Division are working with them, implying even he has good reason to stay away from them.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: By all accounts, the actual office part of the Division is extremely...mundane, with only three desks total in a room the size of the Prince Division's office, and no windows. But then you notice the second room...
  • Properly Paranoid: Their door is booby-trapped To put a tracking spirit on whoever touches it, and almost nothing important is left inside the division's office if they can help it.

Avu Laga

One half of the Necromancy Division, a very well put together Goliath woman that the Prince Division runs into in the Fiend Ward.

Rire Phenton

The other half of the Necromancy Division. A short high-elf man who's short on patience and well versed in the dangers of the city. He's also a Werewolf.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Willing to kill a normal police officer for trespassing into the Necromancy division.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: It's clear he does care, but he's also very aware of the kind of trouble necromancers can get up to, and the kind of dangers the very worst of the city can pose.

    Princes and Princesses

As a concept

The in-universe description of a Sorcerer, Prince (or Princess) Syndrome only appears in humans for a variety of different reasons, from simple genetics down to elaborate magical accidents, and can begin showing symptoms at any time of life, with each prince or princess' power generating random sub conditions that can seriously impact their lives.

Whatever the case, magical creatures and monsters are very interested in these beings because they serve as living batteries, and it is up to the Prince Division to protect the lives of the myriad Princes and Princesses of Rampoon City.

  • Blessed with Suck: For those lucky enough to control this power, it's infinitely more power than your average human could ever ask for, and with an early diagnosis and registry, can effectively ensure that they are noticed by one of the more stable and powerful magical creatures and receive stable employment, food, board and the works. The problem is that a vast majority of Princes/Princesses can't harness this power and many go quite awhile before ever noticing, which leads to trouble and encounters with magical creatures.
  • Disability Superpower:
    • Having Prince or Princess Syndrome means that you naturally have far more magical power than the average human (and that's something considering humans are a Mage Species in this setting), and if you get diagnosed and registered young, you could potentially be put on the radar of some very powerful individuals that you wouldn't normally be able to contact who could set you up for a free ride for life. However, the passive magic that you radiate makes you a living draw for various magical creatures that want to hoard you for the power you can give them, and some unscrupulous types may even kill you to make alchemical and arcane components from your body. On top of this there are various sub-conditions of this Syndrome that can impact your life in ways you can't control;
    • Going through a "flux" means that your magical power spikes super high and causes weird magical effects to occur in your immediate vicinity, and is typically the time when most Princes and Princesses realize that they have the condition. While most only go through one flux that can be quite rough, others sometimes go through multiple throughout their lives and become a hazard to those around them because of the destructive and harmful effects these fluxes can have.
    • Having a "pull" means that you are particularly attractive to a specific type of magical creature, sometimes to the exclusion of all other types. While this limits the types of creatures that come gunning for you, it makes you the arcane equivalent of crack to the type of creature you pull, and the more belligerent creatures like dragons can make your life absolute hell because they simply can't stay away from you even if they try.
    • Having an "embrace" effectively allows you to No-Sell abilities and magical effects from a specific type of magical creature. While this seems like pretty much a net positive, the type of creature you have an embrace for will notice the effective dead zone around you and come calling to figure out what you are doing to them, which could be quite bad if you have an embrace for fiends or undead.
    • Having the "Aurafold" condition is quite the double edged sword; on the one hand, you can effectively bleed off the excess energy that you radiate by using it to cast spells until you exhaust the magic in yourself, which can potentially make you invisible to magical creatures that would normally detect you for a time and allow you to live normally. However, doing this too often is like draining a phone battery to 0 over and over, as it shortens your effective life span every time you do it. Gibby was specifically told by a doctor who specializes in Princes and Princesses that having Aurafold means that she may not live past her fifties depending on how often she drains out her magic.
  • Living MacGuffin: The massive amount of magical power they passively radiate makes them exceptionally useful, and appealing, for various magical creatures. This puts them in constant danger of kidnapping and assault.
  • Power Incontinence: Princes and Princesses have an absurd amount of magical power, but few have any control over it, or even any ability to harness it for practical use, and have specific side effects that impact their lives.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Every prince and princess attracts supernatural creatures. Some have a "pull" that particularly attracts certain types, such as Teryn Sivn's "dragon pull."

Samuel Jorsh

A young boy identified as a prince at an early age. He and his mother become terrified because of strange noises and shapes that appear outside his window. The subject of the first case handled by the Prince Division.
  • Children Are Innocent: The truth of what's happening around him is largely kept away from him, and he's mostly a happy, innocent little boy.

Teryn Sivm

A nursing student diagnosed as a princess during a training exercise. Has the specific Princess symptom of Dragon pull, meaning she attracts dragons in particular to her, which is a big problem as her nursing school is located in the Draconic district of Rampoon city. Goes missing just after the completion of the Jorsh case.
  • Dragons Prefer Princesses: Much to Teryn's chagrin. Due to her specific pull, she just can't keep the dragons away, no matter how hard she tries.
  • Hospital Hottie: A subversion on the trope. It's debatable whether Teryn is physically attractive, but she's clearly attractive (in another sense) to the dragons around her.
  • Morality Pet: She's this for Caustimire, who went from a violent criminal to a much more softer person thanks to their relationship.
  • Phony Degree: The clinic Teryn wanted to do her practicum at was quite legitimate. However, the practicum itself was not, and turned out to be a scheme by a silver dragon to keep Teryn close.
  • The Power of Love: Ultimately, Teryn is able to get most of what she wants by making a deal with Acidback. She gets to stay a nursing student, and she gets to be with Caustimire, and it's all because of how obviously dedicated they are to one another.

Cody Mason

A man that requests the Prince Division's assistance with Quicklings. Lives in the boonies, but commutes to the city for work.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Some time after the players help him with the Quicklings, but before receiving any further character development, he's the victim of the team's fourth official case.

    Residents of Rampoon City

Nephenae Tannis

Virro's only child, a by-all-accounts normal kid for her age, going to school in the inner city.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: She's at that age where she refuses to say she loves him because she doesn't want to sound lame. Virro tries not to take it personally.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: While overwhelmed by the events of her and Amelia escaping Barron Drumarr's casino, then her narrow escape from a zombie, she finally admits to her father that she feels like she can't do everything on her own, especially since neither of her parents are around much to help out. Tannis, understandably, takes that the hardest out of anything.
  • Competition Freak: She's a bit of a terror on the soccer field.
  • Genki Girl: She's definitely the wild one in her friend group of Amelia and Gertrude, being the most active and also the most energetic.
  • It Runs in the Family: Is able to successfully squirm her way away from a mafia headquarters in a skyscraper with help from Amelia, and is a much bigger hassle for the orcs to deal with than they expected. Later, Tannis promises to teach her a bit of martial arts some time in the future.
  • Kids Are Cruel: Nef's opinion of Amelia is pretty rough at first, but eventually they end up becoming friends.

Zobie

The tiny faerie dragon that lives near Michael's house who makes a fairly meager living selling newspapers on the street. Effectively Michael's nemesis.
  • Amusing Injuries: Wants to bite Michael on the eyebrow next time he sees him so that every time Michael looks in the mirror and sees the scar he'll remember how much of a jerk he was. Khel and Zobie have a long discussion about the specificity of the injury.
  • Heartwarming Orphan: Lives on their own since the death of their parents, and is a fixture of the neighborhood, not that Michael appreciates it. He even finds out in the most bewilderingly cruel way possible.
Michael: Don't you have parents or something!?
    Zobie: I did...
[cue the entire cast in hysterics]
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Is so despondent after Michael forcefully sends them away that they run away crying and don't appear for a couple days, which leads to the entire neighborhood wondering where he went and what happened, and is so hurt by it that they (however briefly) take an extremely dramatic vow of silence.

Caroline Jorsh

Samuel Jorsh's mother. She left her husband due to him becoming abusive and has been raising Samuel by herself ever since.
  • Good Parents: Clearly loves her son, even if he needs to be watched more closely than most.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Doing her best to raise a prince without support from a significant other, but it's clearly been difficult for her.

Ivneal the White

Khel Zouren's mother, a white dragon employed as a private prosecutor. Very serious-minded and career-focused, she often doesn't have time for her family. Nevertheless, she loves her son and husband and they get along fairly well.
  • Intimidation Demonstration: Not seen on-camera, but apparently she's intense enough that even Acidback, the green dragon ancient, considers her to be an intimidating presence, despite vastly outclassing her in terms of both power and status. Apparently it's a natural draconic instinct, as dragon females are far larger and domineering in nature.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Inverted. Ivneal is a serious woman with a serious job who struggles to display affection. On the other hand, her son is a happy-go-lucky guy who used to own an ice cream truck to give smiles to children.

Clara

A rebellious young human woman who constantly gets arrested for various crimes. Secretly acts as an informant for the Prince Division.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Agrees to help the Prince Division in exchange for a burger and fries at a fast food joint.
  • Rich Bitch: Secretly the daughter of a wealthy financier who helps keep the privately funded Prince Division afloat. Her "bail money" is a secretive way of funneling funds into the division without attracting too much attention.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Knows a lot about magic and mystical creatures due to her deep connections, despite looking like a street punk.
  • Villain Cred: Part of the "favor" the Prince Division does for her. By constantly putting her under arrest (and making a good show of it), they help reinforce her street cred among the shady people she likes to hang out with.

Criovas the Creep

One of the dragons who was stalking Teryn Sivn after noticing she was a princess. Got charged with criminal harassment after bothering her at her college's tennis club.
  • Dragons Prefer Princesses: Only started showing up at the tennis club to be around Teryn.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Though not the worst offender of the dragons going after Teryn, he does have the most appropriate name since he spent days following her around.
    • Also, dragons don't get names unless it's given to them by other dragons, typically an ancient. He was that much of a creep.

Tindras, the Protector of Life

A silver dragon physician who specializes in treating draconic races, including kobolds and half-dragons. Earned her title thanks to her study of medicine.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture:
    • It's never actually stated what the Silver Ancient did to Tindras for the crime of attempting to capture Teryn. However, it's bad enough that Tindras does not want to talk about it, even when pressed.
    • A younger dragon who captures a prince or princess to "feed" from can be accused of "draconic espionage." Essentially, it's being accused of attempting to accrue power to usurp an Ancient. Apparently, Tindras got off pretty light for this crime, considering she's still alive.
  • Lured into a Trap: Attempted to entrap Teryn with a fake practicum for her nursing degree, including forging documents to entice her there. Tindras got caught, however, and paid the price as a result.

Briesrot the Black

A black dragon who was arrested multiple times for stalking Teryn Sivn at her college. Several of the arrests involved confrontations with campus security.
  • Determinator: Gets very persistent about chasing Teryn, and only stops because it finally results in him getting the crap beaten out of him.
  • Introverted Cat Person: Revealed to be one after going to the pound with Khel, as he adopted six cats that he gave names to.
  • Odd Friendship: With Khel, who manages to pull him out of his ironclad shell.

Caustimire the Green/ Caustimire the Vanguard

A young green dragon with a punkish attitude and a violent streak. One of the dragons implicated in the kidnapping of Teryn Sivn.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Subtlety isn't exactly her strong suit.
  • Butch Lesbian: Very masculine and is a ladies' girl, though she is actually Pansexual.
  • Closet Key: She was this to Taryn, who noted that being in love with a woman was about as strange as being in love with a dragon but later states she has no interest in men.
  • Dragons Prefer Princesses: All dragons seek out princes and princesses because having one close by helps them advance in power far more quickly than they would naturally. Caustimire is no exception to this, although that's not the only reason she wants to be near Teryn...
  • Dumb Muscle: Even by draconic standards, she's pretty tough for her age/power level. On the other hand, she's not particularly clever for a dragon, and easily gets manipulated by her more clever peers.
  • Fantastic Racism: Belonged to a draconic gang known for its anti-human sentiment before it's disillusion. She grew out of it after falling for Taryn.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She eventually gets just about everything she wanted. She gets to stay near Teryn while still getting her the benefit of Acidback's protection. However, in getting there, she almost got killed by another green dragon and had to convince Acidback she was genuine about her feelings for Teryn. If she'd failed, she likely would've been convicted of draconic espionage and been executed.
  • Love Redeems: Her love for Taryn morphed her from a racist criminal to a much kinder person who now has a chance to go straight guarding the woman she loves.
  • Meaningful Name: Earns the title of "the Vanguard" from Vileback after the hard work she did protecting Teryn.
  • The Power of Love: It's her love for Teryn that convinces her to try talking to Acidback instead of confronting him physically, which is what ultimately wins her both Acidback's favor and her new title, Caustimire the Vanguard.
  • Predator Turned Protector: First came onto the radar of the Prince Division when she started getting into fights with other dragons to keep them away from Teryn Sivn.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: She willingly takes to living with Taryn and the other princesses in Acidback's care pretty well and cleans up nicely, but her personality is still...rough.

Durzub

An Orc Mafiosi who Gibby attempts to get information out of by flirting with, and then eventually ends up in a real relationship with.
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: He believes that most humans are infinitely more fragile than they give themselves credit for, and shows deep concern for accidentally hurting those he's close to.
  • Anti-Villain: While he's a perfectly nice guy, he's still a mafia enforcer who has no qualms about the damage he does.
  • Culture Clash: Gets into one with Gibby due to her forwardness in their relationship: the act of kissing, especially the touching of an Orc's tusks, is on-par with excessive amounts of PDA in humans. She kissed him once in public, and he was left in a near-catatonic state of embarrassment for most of the night.
  • Easily Forgiven: His role in kidnapping Nephenae is at best ephemeral, but in a twist, only Gibby actually forgives him, the rest of the party (especially Virro) won't.
  • Has a Type: Almost exclusively dates human women.
  • Heartbroken Badass: His last girlfriend was killed in a car accident, and it hurt him pretty badly.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: While he isn't technically the actual Orc who kidnapped Nephenae, the party (except Gibby) holds him personally responsible, and he's never once denied he had a hand in it, though it does make him uncomfortable to think about.
  • Super-Toughness: Orcs in the setting, especially "Red-Ring" Orcs, are tough as they come. In an ultimately botched gang war with the Trolls that ends in a warehouse collapsing, the worst he gets out of it is a few scrapes and his suit is damaged.

Amelia Hawthorne

A quiet child who lives with her adopted father, who always seems to be distracted by something... Something that isn't quite alive.
  • Blessed with Suck: Life hit Amelia hard. She has a lovable, if somewhat oafish father figure, lives in luxury most of the time, and is educated in the Heavensward. She can see the dead, and has powerful necromantic skill even at a young age, but has almost no real control over it, is implied to have been directly responsible for the death of her own mother at birth, her father disappeared about a year ago and she now lives with the Orc Mob, and the fact that she lives in the Fiend Ward and has a powerful family curse on her head means she will be hunted for all she's worth for all of her days, and is always in danger of being attacked in the streets, and Durzub worries that, if her powers are discovered by the Baron, he'll effectively kidnap her for real in an attempt to live forever.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: By all accounts, she's safe, and has ended up in a friend group with Nephenae.
  • I See Dead People: She's a direct descendant of a family of "The Fifteen", and as a result has natural necromancy powers, and can both see and talk to spirits.
  • The Gadfly: When she starts coming out of her shell, it's revealed she's actually an incredible verbal prankster, able to repeatedly fluster both Gibby and Durzub over the same phone conversation.
  • Hereditary Curse: The Bloodlines of "The Fifteen" are pretty badly cursed to be hunted by the undead, and she's only the latest to deal with it.

    The Powers That Be

Generally

These tropes refers to the various powerful entities that rule Rampoon City's various districts.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: Most of the entities that rule the city appear to be pretty hands-off when it comes to the day-to-day running of the city, only intervening when something directly impacts their interests.

Kazmodius, The Lich

Master of the Undead District in Rampoon City. Not much is known about him, other than that his district is not a nice place to live, and he is not a nice person to be around. A curse he placed on the Police Department is the reason the department's Necromancy Division only has two employees.
  • Black Magic: A master of foul magic and curses. Placed a curse on the Necromancy Division so they would never have a captain, causing misfortune for anyone who even tries.
  • Evil Is Petty: It's clear he's a massive prick, from cursing the necromancy division with a bunch of arbitrary conditions to make them ineffective, to putting a curse on the families of "The fifteen", ensuring that they will always be hounded by his agents and fallen minions.
  • The Undead: Mightiest of the undead, and not very fond of necromancers (at least, necromancers he doesn't have authority over).

Acidback

The mightiest of the green dragons, considered ancient by his peers. Runs an investment firm in the Draconic ward.
  • Corporate Dragon: Appears in a spiffy suit and runs an investment firm.
  • Exotic Extended Marriage: Not necessarily a marriage, but he has 7 princesses of various ages living with him by the time he meets Taryn.
  • Meaningful Name: He has considerable acid-burn scars on his back from years of fighting.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: A surprisingly nice guy, at least to humans, and treats his princesses extremely well, even well into their old age. To other green dragons, especially ones that anger him? Not so much.
  • Secret Test of Character: Of a kind. He is notably brutish to other green dragons, but very kind to humans, and only those dragons who show that they're growing beyond the base cruelty of their kind are the ones he shows any respect to. Which is how Caustimire convinces him to hire her; when he offered her to be his successor later, she turned it down, solidifying his.
  • Time Abyss: He's acutely aware that he outlives every Princess who comes to live with him, so must live with everything at face value or deal with the ramifications of outliving every person you might ever live with or be attracted to.
  • That Came Out Wrong: He notes that one of the conditions about having Taryn being put under his protection is that he has to sleep with him. He quickly clarifies that he means it in a nonsexual manner.

Riggagon

The Mayor of the Heaven's Ward, a powerful Empyrean who is just and fair.
  • Hunk: He's tall, and very good-looking.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's by far the least interested in the collection of princesses, and is perfectly willing to help the police however he can.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Was unintentionally stalking Gibby, but apologized for it when he realized it was merely acknowledging that she has a specific pull that cuts through his own personal auras.

Baron Drumarr

The Don of the Orc Mafia, and leader of the Fiend Ward after slaying the original Pit Fiend who ran it. He runs a casino and most of the betting and protection rackets within the District.
  • Badass Boast: Notes to Tannis that when you control as much territory as he does in the Fiend District, he no longer gambles, he earns.
  • Cool Old Guy: Is quite old for an Orc, and single-handedly slew a pit fiend.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Has a "daughter" he's caring for in the absence of her real father, and does care quite deeply for her. And promptly loses all composure he had during the Prince Division's negotiation and locks the entire Casino down in order to find her.
  • Noble Demon: He is still a mob boss, a brute, and an extortionist, but he has a very strict honor code, and will always make sure that those who do right by him are rewarded justly for their loyalty, not that Tannis cares. He does however, pardons Tannis for finding his daughter, and when a force that is outside his Ward threatens it, he immediately jumps on it and calls in as many people as he can. He's also a shrewd businessman, preferring to work with plenty of different people rather than rely on just Orcs.

Mama Rugigi

An Orcish woman who commands quite a bit of power in the Fiend Ward, running a massive safehouse for women. She has a...forceful personality.
  • My Beloved Smother: Acts like a commanding mother figure to everybody. Including random police officers who walk into her own home.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Monty made a point in noting that she is extremely voluptuous.

Lady O'Dellia

A specialist shop-owner in the Lich Ward, specializing in the buying and selling of spirits for all manner of purposes. Her store is notably one of the only places in the entire Ward that appears safe to enter for your average mortal.
  • Arch-Enemy: Kazmodius. To the point where she loudly protests to even his name said in her store.
  • Creepy Good: A powerful spirit who ultimately uses other, weaker spirits for menial tasks and as gruesome merchandise, she nevertheless sides directly with the mortal realm, openly opposes the Lich who runs the Ward, and will happily aide the Prince Division whenever necessary. For a price, of course.
  • Faux Flame: What her body actually looks like to those who can perceive it.
  • Foil: For Kazmodius. She sees him as on the opposite side of an understanding of death: She embraces it, and ensures that inevitably all spirits that come into her store are inevitably sent away or spent, as well as being an honorable woman who goes through with deals without question, and even allows for wiggle room if someone is willing to be brave enough for it. Kazmodius meanwhile is a backstabbing evader of death, who will do anything to prolong his unlife for as long as possible.
  • Perception Filter: Normal people only see Lady O as completely invisible barring her clothes and her claw rings. Those who are related to the Fifteen however...see her as a nightmarish explosion of spectral fire in the vague shape of a person.

Kine

A "Tower", an infamous race that captures and exsanguinates Princes/Princesses in order to survive. Thought to still be in a state of century-long hibernation, he's recently resurfaced.
  • The Ageless: Towers as a rule do not die from age.
  • Hero Killer: According to Roche, he's responsible for the deaths of the previous iteration of the Prince Division.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Kyne by all accounts looks fairly ordinary...but his mere presence is enough to spook dragons and other magical creatures into a fight or flight response, and can effortlessly slaughter a police division in what seems like very little time.
  • I Have Many Names: Captain Roche states that he alters his identity every century or so, having been introduced to the Tower as "Sultan".
  • Glamour Failure: His glamour gives him an otherwise perfectly plain look...but occasionally it hitches, revealing a second pupil in his eye...
  • Magic Eater: Drinks Princesses and Princes' blood over the course of 100 years, torturing them horribly until they inevitably give out.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: He can't be hurt while bonded to a Princess. The only reason Captain Roche survived the fight that killed the former Prince Division is because he realized this and killed the Princess he was bonded to, forcing him to flee. The party realizes this eventually and, while being forced to hurt the Princess he's with, are able to knock him unconscious and arrest him, ending his threat to the city.
  • Shrouded in Myth: The concept of the "Princess in a Tower" comes from his kind.
  • Single Specimen Species: There has only ever been one Tower as far as anyone around knows.
