Tropes:

Caesar Magnus

Magnamon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • Born Winner: A Super Soldier
  • In Harmony with Nature
  • The Stoic
  • Self-Made Orphan: He considered Theron his father, but he (or Imego, rather) killed him when Caesar was being possessed.
  • Super Mode: Magnamon X.
I am your hope and all that's bright. I am the thing that gives you might. I come to you in blackest night. So let all behold - my golden light! X-Evolution! Magnamon X!
  • Super-Soldier: Made as one by the Dramon Empire, though that project was cancelled by Imego.
  • Tyke-Bomb: Caesar is a Dramon super soldier.

Hyperion Omega

Omnimon X

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Osiris Soultaker

Anubismon

"Towards Our Future!"

The heroic, awesome leader... kinda. He's only that because Ajax said Big "NO!". Idealistic, fond of speeches, inspirational to a degree and something of a Warrior Poet, Osiris tries to be a decent guy in a Crapsack World and gets dragged down constantly by it. Ultimately, his idealism and habit of inspiration speeches only earn him What the Hell, Hero?, he suffers with numerous deaths caused under his watch, and this is all on top of his existing dark backstory. When he breaks... it is not good. And it gets worse.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Balion stumbles into this one when he inadvertantly insults Ragna. Osiris chews him out for it to the third degree. Also, killing Tytania in front of Osiris is a sure way to have him go completely mad and loses every scrap of decency, as Azazel discovers.
  • Cartwright Curse: First Isis, then Tytania.
  • Catchphrase: 'Towards our Future!' It's inherited from Ragna and is representive of how Osiris tries to hold up the ideals Ragna established. He fails.
  • Cats Are Mean: All of his evolutions are at least feline-themed and are much nastier than his base form. This is why he never fights as Anubismon.
  • Darker and Edgier: Compare Osiris at the start of Dark Reign, and the end of it.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Rather ironically given the setting. He has the Ancient of Darkness as an evolution and all his evolutions bar one are predominantly black in color, but Osiris is pretty much the most heroic Avenger in Dark Reign (to the point when the name shift to Warbound happens, he still uses Avengers).
  • Ironic Echo: 'The names will be the worst'. Not so much ironic as prophetic... but given what happens between the mentions... they can only be considered ironic for their effect on Osiris.
  • Love Interest: Tytania. It goes horribly wrong.
  • Meaningful Name: He shares his name with the Egyptian God of the Underworld and the dead. Fittingly, he is often associated with being close to the past and those who have died.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: After Tytania dies, he delivers one of these to Azazel and would have killed him, Uriel or no Uriel, had Siegfried not hijacked Azazel's power to evolve.
  • The Hero: Only he truly tries to be, and he gets so hammered for it that ultimately his attempts to be a hero only make things worse.
  • The Rival: To Ajax.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: This is Osiris in spades.
  • You Have Failed Me: A non-lethal example. Osiris believes this to be why he loses his Ancient Sphinxmon-related powers and has his form shifted to BanchoLeomon. In truth, it's Set setting up schemes.

Nova Solais

ShineGreymon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Gatmuz Lycanis

MirageGaogamon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Tytania Amaryllis

Rosemon

A psychotic, mutilated Rosemon who wants bloody revenge on Samhain and all who follow him for what was done to her hometown and the wounds she suffered during her fight to try and save that home, Tytania is ax crazy and more. Thanks to Osiris sharing his own experiences with revenge and pain, Tytania begins to balance out and there are hints of chemistry between the two. Then she dies, firmly setting Osiris on his own fall down the slippery slope, which will continue right until Will They Thank You?

Tropes:

  • Ax-Crazy: In her debut appearance, she takes extremely great delight in being soaked in blood.
  • Custom Uniform: Horrifically done. Her signature black-stained, burned attire is actually the result of her data being so terribly damaged by the flames when she was left amidst her burning home that it will never heal. It's implied she wears her petal-mask because her skin suffered damage of the same kind.
  • Doomed Hometown: Her home was burned down on Samhain's orders, executed by Siegfried of the Black Hands. This sparks her Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: Your guess is as good as mine as to whether her crazy bondage-theme methods of fighting (with a touch of fencing for good measure) are just how she fights, or deliberately done for revenge. Granted she's fighting Diaboromon...
  • Good Is Not Nice
  • Green Thumb: She technically has limited control of plants, most seen with her own vines. In the Crapsack World of Dark Reign, with limited plant life anywhere, this is fairly useless anyway.
  • It's Personal: Samhain had her home burned. She wants his whole empire to come down in flames.
  • Living Weapon: Her signature vine whips/rapiers are actually a part of her and Samhain has exploited this by tearing the whips off of him and ripping them apart, causing Tytania clear pain.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge}}: Initially, her whole reason for existence and her creed. She gets better.
  • Royal Rapier: Her secondary weapon option.
  • Shout-Out: Tytania's dynamic of the 'witch of black rose' is a more than coincidental parallel to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, specifically Aki Izayoi/Akiza Izinski of that series. Word of God... she was inspired by Aki.
  • Vine Tentacles: She uses vine whips.

Rai of Destiny

Rapidmon (Armor)

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Karasu of Illusion

Ravemon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Strom Marocannus

Spinomon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • Achey Scars: The Dramon data that was taken into Strom's hand after he cut himself twice on the Wyrmflame causes intense pain to him every so often, particularly when the dramon data becomes dominant.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Strom develops a crush on Nova and it quickly grows. He soon finds out that Nova and Gatmuz love each other.
  • Badass Angster
  • Berserk Button: Do not insult or hurt Strom's friends. And 'especially' don't kill them. Strom won't forget it.
  • Born Unlucky
  • Byronic Hero
  • Cold Sniper: In his Examon form.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Not as much as in Civil War, due to his issues, but he still has a lot of sarcasm to spare.
    • Stepford Snarker: This still carries over, but the pain he receives is to the point where he can't even use sarcasm to cover it.
  • Dead Sidekick: The newly-befriended Quintus is this to him.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: To Nova, even after it's painfully clear that she loves Gatmuz. After Gatmuz's death Strom's less concerned about her being single and much more concerned about trying to make her feel better.
  • Eye Colour Change: Sort of. Whenever Strom is about to evolve into Examon, or the Dramon data inside him gets particularly overwhelming, his gold eyes slowly become green as the draconic influence grows. When he tempers the draconic data, though, they go back to gold.
  • Good Is Not Nice
  • Green-Eyed Monster: See "The Resenter"
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Luckily, Ragna says a few choice words just before Strom can cross a Moral Event Horizon.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Strom is this to Nova, who's in love with Gatmuz.
  • Love Hurts: Strom's first brush with love doesn't go very well. It gets even worse when Gatmuz dies.
  • The Power of Friendship: This drives him constantly throughout the RPG, sometimes to a fault. Later we find out that Strom is the embodiment of Yggdrasil's virtue: friendship.
  • Love Triangle: Strom loves Nova. Gatmuz loves Nova. Nova loves Gatmuz.
  • The Resenter: To Hyperion.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Quite a bit in Dark Reign, but especially when Strom's willing to go with Ajax's group in order to get revenge on Samhain for killing Braon, even though the attempt is basically seen as a suicide mission. Also, in the final battle there's shades of this as Strom is perfectly willing to kill Arahon Alpha, who's trapped inside of Nidhogg, even though he can save him, in order to kill Nidhogg for killing Quintus. At the time, part of him blamed Arahon Alpha too. Luckily, Ragna's spirit stopped him at the last second.
  • Sanity Slippage: Subtly. The tipping point was with Braon's death, but as more and more friends die and bad things happen, he becomes more and more broken. He becomes increasingly obsessed with revenge and later he goes through a few massive Heroic Blue Screens of Death and is almost Driven to Suicide, but, thankfully, Braon snaps him out of it. By the end, Strom gets a bit better, but he's still bears very deep scars.
  • Scars Are Forever: While played straight for the scars on Strom's chest, the scars on his palm could have been removed were it not for Dramon data that was absorbed into the tissue.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: In Spinomon form
  • Took a Level in Badass: Strom did this after Quintus died, causing him to become Examon.
  • Tragic Dream: Through Belial's dream manipulation, it's revealed that Strom's greatest desire was that his friends were brought back to life. Unfortunately, the universe they're in follows the Digimon Tamers mechanic of dead digimon staying dead.
  • Tranquil Fury: Whenever Strom is in his Examon form.
  • Trauma Conga Line: A massive one.
  • Tsundere: Type A. He's typically gruff and sarcastic but if Nova casts him so much as a look, Strom's insides will melt
  • Vitriolic Best Buddies: With Ranney.

Erebus Artorius

Cyberdramon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

Balion Flamdring

UlforceVeedramon

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Maybe not evil in Balion's case, but certainly not nice.
  • Awesome Ego
  • Blue Blood
  • Byronic Hero: For awhile, his only redeeming quality are his skills and his courage. Otherwise, he's a prejudiced, holier-than-thou, womanizing jerk.
  • The Casanova: Pre-character development, Balion would only hit on every Dramon female he'd see, due to his prejudice. Now that he got over that, there's no attractive woman he won't hit on... starting with Yggdrasil... right in front of Hyperion.

Dracul Samhain

GranDracmon

The Blackest Night falls from the skies. The darkness grows as all light dies. I crave your hearts and your demise. By my black hand, the dead shall rise!

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • A God Am I: Samhain's God complex grows to extreme levels.
  • Catchphrase: His signature chant used for... everything. Even his minions use it with minor variations.
  • Dark Is Evil: Does this need explanation?
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: He destroyed Yggdrasil via the Digital Hazard. Fortunately, he destroyed a duplicate made just in case.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": For a time anyway. For much of the RPG Samhain is referred to as 'The Black King', as uttering his name allows him to find you and drop his minions on you. Unfortunately this was found out too late to save the Holy Capital.
  • Love Hurts: He used to be Yggdrasil's lover and champion.
  • Shout-Out: His chant is derived from the Black Lantern oath in the Green Lantern comics.

DexDorugoramon

The Blackest Night falls from the skies. The darkness grows as all light dies. He craves your hearts and your demise. By Samhain's will, Yggdrasil dies!

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • Arch-Enemy: To Strom. Then again, Strom makes a lot of these due to his revenge issues.
  • Death by Irony: He ate Strom's power, alright...
  • Meaningful Name: Nidhogg is a dragon in Norse Mythology which gnaws on corpses and Yggdrasil's roots. Though this Nidhogg just resurrects his fellow Death-X Digimon instead.
  • Necromancer: He is able to continually resurrect his Death-X Digimon.
  • Night of the Living Mooks: The Death-X Digimon he commands.

BlackOmnimon X

A general description about the character's personality, motivations, etc.

Tropes:

  • Back from the Dead: Thanatos was born from the parts of Jager and Tharor which died instead of becoming Hyperion.]]
  • Evil Counterpart: To Hyperion.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The fact that two or so years after Dark Reign ended, a canon black version of Omnimon was revealed, Omnimon Zwart.
  • Meaningful Name: He's named for the Greek God/personification of Death itself. He, in his own words, represents Death as the ultimate enemy.
  • One-Hit Kill: All Delete!. And it kills Yggdrasil.
