At the end of Season 23, the producers surprised the fanbase by announcing that, just three years and five seasons removed from Unfinished Business, they were already doing another All-Star season. The surprise turned to general displeasure when the cast was announced, as they had selected a group of teams even more controversial than the original All-Stars, including three teams that had not exactly shined on Unfinished Business^note Margie & Luke and Jet & Cord had both won a leg apiece, but neither had done that well outside of those legs, and Flight Time & Big Easy, though they won two legs and made the Final 3, had annoyed a good portion of the fanbase with their leeching of answers to tasks, and were the only team in the finale that would have caused a fanbase fracture had they won. The major snubs from the past five seasons^note Andy & Tommy, Bill & Cathi, Art & J.J., Jaymes & James, Trey & Lexi, Abbie & Ryan, Max & Katie, Pam & Winnie, Tim & Marie, and Nicky & Kim far outnumbered the teams returning for a second chance who could legitimately be described as "All-Stars," and when both of those teams were gone by the end of the first episode, the prospects for the season were not looking very good.

The season itself contained a number of issues, including a disappointing course that appeared too easy for returning teams, a boring route that stuck only to Asia and Europe while visiting a lot of countries they visit almost every season like China, Switzerland, and the UK, an elimination order that was much more predictable than previous All-Star seasons, the teams mostly getting along and keeping to themselves, leading to a definite lack of Conflict in the first half of the season, and editing issues that left the line between hero and villain a muddled mess. Though Season 24 was far from the series' best entry, it did feature some original and hilarious tasks, and teams did have the competitive edge that was lacking from much of Unfinished Business.

Because of the nature of the season, all teams are examples of My Greatest Second Chance.

David "Dave" O'Leary & Connor O’Leary (Season 22, 8th Place)

Having been forced to drop out of the race after Dave suffered a torn Achilles tendon, the father/son duo returned to show what they could do with a healthy leg, and impress they did, becoming the first parent/child team to win the Race, while Dave became to oldest person to win^note Though overall, Chip & Kim, the former oldest winners, were still the oldest team, as their average age was five years older than Dave & Connor's. From early in the season they ran at the front of the pack, never falling below 4th place for the entirety of the season, and winning six legs.

For the first five episodes they hovered in the background, talking about nothing but Dave's Achilles tendon tear the last time they raced. This changed in the second half of the season, when their competitive personalities started to show through, and not always in the best of ways. Some of the more negative aspects of their personalities, which had previously been either downplayed or overlooked by fans due to Dave running on one leg, came into the spotlight after they were U-Turned by Brendon & Rachel. Despite taking the U-Turn a bit too personally, turning it into a personal vendetta, they never fell below 1st after that, winning the three legs leading up to the finale, where Dave edged out Caroline on the final Roadblock, winning them the Race.

• As Long as It Sounds Foreign: While doing the Roadblock in Switzerland, Connor said "leche" when looking for milk (Leche is milk in Spanish).
• Call-Back:
  • They flashed back to Dave's Achilles tendon tear four times over the first four legs, and again in the finale, and talked about it further on several other occasions.
  • On the train to Switzerland in leg 9, they and Caroline & Jennifer both mocked Rachel's whining from Season 20.
• Chekhov's Hobby: They breezed through the Shoot It Detour because Connor had a badge in shooting from the Boy Scouts
• Cool Old Guy: Dave; he and Connor managed to put up one of the best statistical seasons ever despite him being a 58-year-old grandfather. Not to mention that he is the oldest person to ever win the Amazing Race.
• Earn Your Happy Ending: After having to withdraw from The Amazing Race 22, despite putting up a strong showing, they came back every bit as strong as before and winning the race.
• Failed a Spot Check: In Leg 8, they initially didn't think to use the box the parts came in during the Donkey Puzzle Detour after the clue told them to use everything. They ended up being the only team to figure it out, eventually giving the answer to both Caroline & Jennifer and Leo & Jamal.
• Felony Misdemeanor: They way overreacted to the U-Turn. True, it wasn't the best strategic decision on Brendon & Rachel's part, but it didn't affect them long-term, and they kept complaining about it past the point where it became clear they were going to survive the leg. This continued until they landed in Wales and even led to the formation of an alliance to eliminate Brendon & Rachel.
• Flanderization: Almost the only thing they talked about through the first five legs was Dave's Achilles tendon tear, to the point that the editing seemingly forgot that they both survived cancer as well. It wasn't until leg 6 that they started showing some of the super competitive personality they'd had on Season 22.
• Flawless Victory
• Foreshadowing: Dave talked about his age quite a few times before becoming the oldest winner of The Amazing Race
• Honor Before Reason:
  • In Leg 7, they allowed Caroline & Jennifer to finish ahead of them, even stepping aside at the Pit Stop, though they were racing for second, so it's not as if they gave Caroline & Jen the prize for that leg. Regardless, the teams were so spread apart that leg they didn't know that.
  • In Leg 8, they helped both Caroline & Jennifer and Leo & Jamal (whom they had U-turned, and actually told them about it before Leo & Jamal had started the Detour task) to complete the Donkey Build Detour.
  • In Leg 9, they gave answers to the Tunnel Drill route marker to both Caroline & Jennifer and Leo & Jamal to prevent Brendon & Rachel getting ahead of them.
• History Repeats: Dave mentioned how they won the third leg again, though this time he did it on two legs.
• Inspirationally Disadvantaged: Dave survived prostate cancer, and Connor testicular cancer. Though it was been downplayed prior to the finale.
• Intergenerational Friendship: Dave with Caroline & Jennifer.
• It's a Small World, After All: In leg 6, after Flight Time & Big Easy caught up to them on the cab ride to the Pit Stop, they found out that the Globetrotters' cab driver and their cab driver were brothers. So when Flight Time & Big Easy's driver asked Dave & Connor's driver for directions to the Pit Stop, Dave & Conner asked their driver to give bad directions, dooming Flight Time & Big Easy to second-to-last.
• It's All About Me: Dave, mostly regarding his age.
  • Shades of this could be seen in Sri Lanka when he complained about Jessica & John running past them on the sprint to the 6th Pit Stop.
  • This became a major point after the first U-Turn in leg 8, when he pressed the issue beyond the point of being reasonable, especially by repeatedly using his age as an argument as to why he shouldn't have been U-Turned.
  • Shades of this would again be brought up after he got tossed around by the other Ballz players during the Detour in Spain. Though, to be fair everyone was doing everything they could to get the players to go easy on them
• The Load: At the end of the season, Dave had done only 5 Roadblocks, one of which he was forced to do, whereas Connor did 8^note He was able to due this due to a new rule stating that each team member could only do six Roadblocks through leg 10, then had to split the last 3. Not only that, there were several instances where Dave insisted that Connor do a Roadblock when Connor tried to get him to do one.
• Moral Myopia: In Leg 6, they had no problem telling their taxi driver to give the Globtrotters bad directions to the Pit Stop, yet they would not stop complaining when they were U-Turned by Brendon & Rachel in Leg 8.^note Their reasoning appeared to be along the lines that they had been fighting to stay in the game when misdirecting Flight Time & Big Easy, while Brendon & Rachel hit a team who was most likely completely safe with a U-Turn in order to give them a cushion to win the leg.
• No Sense of Direction:
  • They missed a turn to the funicular in Leg 8, dropping them behind Leo & Jamal. They ran into an equally lost Caroline & Jennifer, who had just gotten directions to the Pit Stop, and made it to the Pit Stop together.
  • Despite being the first to leave the London Heathrow Airport, they got lost on their way to Liverpool, putting them in last heading into the soccer task.
• Nice Guy: Both of them, which didn't go unnoticed by the other teams
• Nothing Personal: How they explained their U-Turn to Leo & Jamal. Their apology even led to the two teams working together.
• Older Than They Look: Lampshaded by Jamal at the Barber of Seville Roadblock, noting that the younger Connor had probably never touched a razor, looking like he had yet to go through puberty yet, but still beat the hairier Jamal.
• Politeness Judo: They immediately apologized to Leo & Jamal for the U-Turn and explained why they did it, leading to Leo & Jamal actually helping Connor on the Roadblock later in the leg.
• Read the Freaking Manual: During the third leg Detour, they passed up the spot where they were supposed to land their raft to go deliver their parcel of food, as Dave misread that they were supposed to travel under six bridges before arriving (that was for the other Detour choice). They ended up having to carry their parcel back from the end of the Detour to complete the task (though they were far enough ahead it didn't end up costing them 1st place).
• Reality Show Genre Blindness: Upon opening the second Roadblock clue in the finale, Dave could be heard telling Connor to do the Roadblock. Except that Connor had done the David Copperfield Roadblock already that leg, and legs with two Roadblocks always have them forcibly split between both team members, meaning Dave had to sky dive, whether he liked it or not.
• Rejected Apology: They refused Brendon's apology for the U-Turn. And in a Deleted Scene, during the train trip to Switzerland, they and Brendon & Rachel tried to clear the air, but it did not then work out either.
• Self-Deprecation: They often made witty remarks at their own expense
• Team Dad: Dave, to the Accidental Alliance.
• The Teetotaler: Dave admitted to being this at the drink mixing Detour, them being Mormons and all.
• This Means War!: Upon Brendon & Rachel after the U-Turn.
• Wasn't That Fun?: Connor was absolutely giddy about doing the Ballz Detour that he said if he could, he would do it again. Dave wasn't as enthusiastic.

Caroline Cutbirth & Jennifer "Jen" Wayne (The Country Singers) (Season 22, 4th Place)

The country singers with the famous ancestors were back once again, to the surprise of even themselves. They came into the season seeing themselves as the weakest of the returning teams, and thought they had little chance of winning. Surprisingly, they ended up being one of the more solid teams, running in the middle of the pack while other teams faltered and got eliminated, gaining confidence in their abilities with every leg. In the final leg, they were neck and neck with Dave & Connor going into the final Roadblock, only for Dave to spot the sign directing them to the Finish Line before Caroline, and they finished in 2nd, a place they had not achieved even once in Season 22.

• Always Second Best: In the finale, the mentioned how they had run more legs than anyone else, 23, without winning a leg.^note The record previously belonged to Kent & Vyxsin at 18.
• Batman Gambit: Seeing that Caroline was about to fall apart at the toy car Roadblock, and thinking they were in imminent danger of elimination, Jennifer flirted with Cord in order to get the second Express Pass from them.^note It's fitting that that the granddaughter of John Wayne got what she wanted out of a couple of cowboys.
• Bittersweet Ending: Invoked by Phil at the Finish Line, who said that even though they didn't win, they proved, beyond their own self-doubts, that they deserved to be included as All-Stars.
• Born Lucky: After surviving elimination for the second time, they said they'd been having too much luck not to still be in the Race, and seemed destined to win.
• Call-Back:
  • Caroline invoked the often quoted, "It's on like Donkey Kong," during their pre-Race interviews.
  • In their intro and after making the Final 3, they sang their We're Gonna Win The Amazing Race song from Season 22.
  • On the train to Switzerland in leg 9, they and Dave & Connor both mocked Rachel's whining from Season 20.
• The Charmer: They managed to work their way into the good graces of the male teams:
  • They were the first team in three seasons to crack Jet & Cord's loner tendencies, and Jen talked the second Express Pass out of them.
  • The 7th leg saw Dave & Connor stop short of the mat to let them check in first. Even though they knew they weren't racing for first or last^note Brendon & Rachel left before them, and Jet & Cord showed up as they were leaving for the Pit Stop, this never happens.
  • The 9th leg saw Leo & Jamal enter an alliance with them, and Leo stop in the middle of a tight race for both first and last to help them finish the Mustang task.
• Chekhov's Hobby: Caroline's dad taught them to shoot, allowing them to finish the Shoot It Detour in 1st place.
• Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Caroline initially got into the wrong side of their car in England, as the steering wheel was on the other side.
• David Versus Goliath: Half of their storyline. They realized coming in that they would be the most lightly regarded team, as they had never finished above 3rd, and they were going against teams with multiple leg wins. Even Joey & Meghan, a team they generally performed better than on Season 22, regarded them as Cannon Fodder. However, they decided to play into this, selling themselves to the other teams as a weak team they didn't have to worry about in the long run.
• Double Standard: In the second leg. Caroline was upset for having to perform the Toy Car Roadblock, stating that "men build things."
• Everybody Hates Mathematics: Caroline said she didn't get along with math, which is why they had Jen do the Roman numeral Roadblock.
• Famous Ancestor: Both of them. Jennifer is the granddaughter of John Wayne, and Caroline is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone.
• Fangirl: Caroline admitted to being one of the Cowboys, mentioning one of her main goals of the season was to become friends with them, and admitted that she probably came off like a stalker in the first leg.^note Jet even said in a Deleted Scene that they were the first team he actually considered becoming friends with.
• Fingore: Averted. Jen got her finger caught in the raft during Leg 3 and was screaming for help from Caroline that it was going to get cut off. Fortunately, she got it out of the raft before further injury.
• The Glomp:
  • Caroline jumped into Jen's arms when they completed the music mixing Detour on their first try.
  • They were pulled into a hug by Phil and the greeter when they survived elimination in Switzerland.
  • Caroline to the task judge at the Welsh poem Roadblock after completing the task on her second try.
  • To David Copperfield upon meeting him at the first Roadblock in the finale.
• History Repeats: They once again made flirty friendships with the male teams, and became closest with the eventual winners.
  • For the third time in an All-Star season, the lesser regarded of the two returning female teams (judging by previous performance) came into the season expected to be Cannon Fodder, only to surprise everyone with their improved performance by making it all the way to the Final 3.^note Meaning in three All-Star seasons, there has been four (out of six possible) female teams make the Final 3. In 20 regular seasons prior to this season, only five female teams had made the Final 3.
  • For the third time in an All-Star season, a former fourth place team in their original season took second in the finale, though that means they did also fail to become the third team to win the finale after coming in with zero leg wins.
• I Gave My Word: They got an amazing cab driver in the finale, and at the Las Vegas Neon Museum Boneyard, Brendon tried to steal him. He first tried the "we're in a race" line, to which the driver replied that Jen & Caroline were also in a race. Brendon then tried the "if we win, we get to have a baby" line, which also failed. Finally, he tried bribing the driver with $25. The driver refused again, sticking with Jen & Caroline, ultimately jumping the ladies to 1st place, while Brendon & Rachel's driver dropped them to last place.
• Idea Bulb: Joked about by Caroline in the finale, with the bulb they got from the Las Vegas Neon Museum Boneyard.
• Intergenerational Friendship: With Dave.
• Lamarck Was Right: Referenced when they took the Shoot It Detour, considering who their ancestors are. Averted, in that was Caroline's dad had taught them how to shoot.
• Lightbulb Joke: Lampshaded. At the Mirage light bulb task in the finale, Jen said it took two country singers to screw in a light bulb.
• The Load: What Joey accused them of after the Toy Car Roadblock when they buttered up to Jet & Cord for the second Express Pass.
• No-Sell: At the David Copperfield Roadblock in the finale, while Dave and Brendon both reacted with the expected shock/worry when the flaming crate containing their partner fell, Caroline just continued to watch the screen, unaffected, waiting to see how the illusion played out, while David watched her, waiting for a reaction. He finally just sprung Jen on her.
• No Sense of Direction:
  • They got lost driving from Rome to Bagnoregio when heavy traffic separated them from Dave & Connor, then again on their way to the Pit Stop later in the leg, both times dropping themselves two places in the standings.
  • They got lost twice running through the streets of Seville, though not badly enough to really cost them.
  • They went the wrong direction leaving the Detour in the U.K., letting Dave & Connor, who decided to take the oppostie direction that they did, beat them to the Pit Stop and the leg win.
• Screw the Rules, I'm Beautiful!: They both liked to take advantage of their looks by flirting with men, both fellow contestants and random men they met, though Caroline seemed to take advantage of it more, even trying to get judges and other task participants to go easy on her.
• Squee: And glomp upon meeting David Copperfield.
• Stage Name: Jennifer changed her last name from Kuhle^note her father's last name, the far less famous tennis pro Lorne Kuhle, to her maternal grandfather's Stage Name, Wayne.
• Suspiciously Specific Denial: Used as a joke. At the Mirage light bulb task in the finale, when they were about to go up in the window washing platform, they started talking about how Jen was totally not afraid of heights.
• Unexpected Character: They were easily the most surprising selection to return, as they weren't super popular, they weren't Large Hams who mugged for the camera, and they didn't have an infamous moment or elimination they were remembered for.
  • It also extended to them somehow being the only team to give a live Q&A session while the season was running (Around episode 6 to be exact), as their biggest moment at that time in the season was Jen asking the Cowboys for the Express Pass when Caroline was struggling the toy car Roadblock in China.
• Unwitting Pawn: Leo & Jamal planned on using them as this by dragging them into the Final 3 as they didn't see the country singers as a threat. This did not work out as planned, which appeared to be a part of Caroline & Jennifer's overall strategy to begin with.
• Victoria's Secret Compartment: Jen stuffed the clue down her shirt during the Waterfall Roadblock.
• Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Heights for Jen.
• Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Jen's main selling point to Cord to get the Express Pass was that she and Caroline were the least threatening team.
• Wrongfully Attributed: While building their raft in leg 3, Caroline got her 19th century literary characters mixed up, as she said it felt like they were Huck Finn and Oliver Twist^note , as opposed to Tom Sawyer.
• You Go, Girl!: The other half of their storyline. They started as an underestimated female team on a season stocked with male teams, and are doing well late into the season, despite Rachel being the only other woman in the top 6.

Brendon Villegas & Rachel Reilly (Brenchel) (Season 20, 3rd Place)

The Big Brother couple were back for another shot at the Race, now married. After an entire season's worth of whining in Season 20, Rachel started off All-Stars as a much nicer person, acting as a calming influence on both Brendon and other teams. However, this only lasted through half the season, as they U-Turned Dave & Connor to win the 8th leg, putting them at odds with the other teams once again, and their more negative traits slowly started reappearing. While they won three legs, they also spent a lot time scraping along at the bottom of the pack, working their way into the Final 3 on the back of several lucky breaks. This luck ran out in the finale, as the combination of a bad cab driver and missing the clue at The Mirage doomed them to 3rd.

• All of the Other Reindeer: They were openly singled out by the other teams after U-Turning Dave & Connor, and they mentioned how this is not the first time this has happened to them, as it seems to be Rachel's lot on Reality Television.
• Alpha Bitch: Averted for the first six legs, but Rachel's bitchiness started popping up again in leg 7, when, after pointing Dave & Connor towards the clue at the Spanish Steps, she seemed to think they should thank her for not pointing them in the wrong direction. This got progressively worse up until the finale, when she was downright nasty when talking about the other teams.
• Always Second Best: They are the only team in Race history to make it to the Final 3 twice^note Eric Sanchez raced with two different partners in his two trips to the final leg, yet they finished in 3rd both times.
• Babies Ever After: Averted. Brendan promised Rachel that if they won the Race, they could have children. This got brought up more and more as they neared the final leg, with the two of them mentioning it seemingly every five minutes in the finale. Once it became clear they weren't going to win, Rachel started crying about not getting her baby, and their 3rd place finish resigned Rachel to having to wait until Brendon got his doctorate before they could make a "Brenchel Baby". ^note As for Rachel's winnings on Big Brother, it is rumored that they used the winnings to rent a house in L.A.
• Big "WHAT?!": Rachel, after their terrible third leg in which Phil told them they were 8th and not last. Also after being spared elimination in the next leg.
• Born Lucky: Their entire race can be distilled down to this:
  • Leg 2: Their cab driver bumped them from 5th to 1st between the Detour and the Pit Stop.
  • Leg 3: Joey & Meghan made a horrible mistake letting their cab go at the Roadblock situated in the middle of nowhere, allowing Brendon & Rachel to survive despite crashing their raft at the Detour.
  • Leg 4: They got non-eliminated after struggling with the Drink Mixing Detour.
  • Leg 5: They were able to catch a connecting flight with a half-hour layover time, whereas Margie & Luke got stranded in Kuala Lumpur.
  • Leg 6: John corrected Rachel's mistake at the gas station Roadblock just in time for them to make the train with all the other teams, while missing it would have all but guaranteed them a last place finish and another non-elimination.
  • Leg 8: After winning Leg 7, the lack of an equalizer allowed them to keep their lead and claim their third first place, even though Jet & Cord were forced to use their Express Pass that leg and Leo & Jamal ran the leg nearly half an hour faster than them despite getting U-Turned.
  • Leg 10: While fighting to avoid last place, they were the target for the U-Turn by all the other teams, but when Jamal hurt his knee, it gave him and Leo the motivation to switch back to their initial target, Jet & Cord, who were more consistent and the bigger physical threat. Not only were they spared almost certain elimination again, but they were able to finish the leg in 2nd after Jamal's knee slowed his and Leo's walk to the Pit Stop.
  • Leg 11: Rachel misread the clue at the Boot It Detour, forcing them to do the task twice, but survived the leg thanks to Leo & Jamal's repeated navigation gaffes.
• Call-Back: In Italy, they recalled Rachel's meltdown the last time they had been in Italy, which had resulted in their worst finish in all of Season 20.
• Call It Karma: Brendon said that Race history told that karma would hit the other teams for targeting them at the 9th Pit Stop.^note Not that karma hurt any of the teams that targeted Brendon & Rachel in Season 20, or Leo & Jamal in Season 23.
• Character Development: They had become much calmer than they were in Season 20, especially Rachel. Even during their breakdowns, Rachel stayed calmer than her first time racing. The Drink Mixing Detour even showed Brendon wanting to throw something on the ground and Rachel trying to calm him down - a complete reversal from their previous run. Lampshaded by Brendon in the following leg when he discussed that there was definitely a role reversal from their last time racing with Rachel being the calmer one. However, Killer Fatigue and repeatedly getting knocked over did cause whiny Rachel to return during the Running With the Ballz Detour in leg 10 and the Boot It Detour in Leg 11.
• The Ditz: Rachel again, like in the finale, when they were trying to pry open the wooden box with the keys for the first Roadblock in it, she climbed into the back of the SUV, looking for the tire iron, only to hand Brendon the jack instead.
• Everything's Better with Sparkles: Rachel's sparkles extended beyond her shirt to the rest of her wardrobe. Brendon even joined in by wearing her sparkly headband for their team photo.
  • In the third leg during the Waterfall Roadblock, Rachel didn't want to lose any of the sequins on her shorts, so she performed it in her underwear.
• Evil Gloating: Their, "We're playing the exact same game. We're just playing it better," comment after Dave confronted them about the U-Turn.
• Failed a Spot Check:
  • It took them a while to spot their clue on the door of their bubble in the first leg, while Jet & Cord looked on to see whether they or Margie & Luke would find their clue first.
  • Twice in the finale, the second of which cost them the Race. First, at the Las Vegas Neon Museum Boneyard, when they missed the silver and red sign they were supposed to take a a light bulb from. Second, at The Mirage, when they ran past the clue box, into the hotel, costing them valuable time they needed to make up after getting a bad cab driver.
• Fatal Flaw: They have a bad record in checking into details in their original season, this season was more apparent.
• Global Ignorance:
  • At the beginning of leg 7, when told to fly to the Eternal City^note Rome, Rachel yelled "Ethiopia, Africa," which is a country.
  • Upon leaving the Pit Start in Italy, Rachel was worried about being attacked by wolverines on the path.
• Heel–Face Revolving Door: They started Season 20 with Rachel whining at the drop of a hat, and Brendon constantly getting frustrated and yelling at her. However, they became much more sympathetic when Art & J.J. and Vanessa started bullying her, tilting them back towards a Face. They then started off All-Stars being portrayed as a far nicer team than in Season 20, completing their move towards being a Face. However, the Heel portion started to creep up during Leg 7 (see Alpha Bitch), and got worse in the next leg with the team U-Turning Dave & Connor, who were well liked among the other teams, to win a leg, making them outcasts once again. Rachel's whining came back in leg 10, and they completed their move back to villain in the final leg, where tensions burst with the other two Final 3 (getting into fights with Jen & Caroline at the airport, and with Dave & Connor by shoveling sand into their hole at the digging task), and then tried to steal Jen & Caroline's cab at the Las Vegas Neon Museum Boneyard.
• Hiding Behind Religion: While waiting for Rachel to do the calligraphy Roadblock, Brendon told the camera that God had told him to U-Turn Dave & Connor... either that, or it was a "manly" decision.
• History Repeats: They finished 2nd in the first leg and the last two legs in 3rd place once again.
• I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Rachel, after all the other teams started allying against them.
• Informed Ability: Rachel repeatedly brought up supposed Chekhov's Hobbies that they failed to live up to, to the point of it being a Running Gag. Any time she mentioned having done something in the past, cocktail waitressing, being an "artiste," working as a maid, working at the Mirage Hotel in Vegas, not only did she not excel at the task, many times they were one of the last to complete the task.
  • They did avert it on the soccer task in leg 11, though that time it was Brendon who talked about their skills, not Rachel, keeping in with the Running Gag.
• Lightbulb Joke: At the light bulb task in the finale, Rachel asked how many Brenchels it took to screw in a lightbulb. Brendon replied with, "Two to hold the 'I', and ten million to spin the Mirage around."
• Morton's Fork: Like Margie & Luke, they were shut out of the first flight to Colombo in the 5th leg and were presented with two options: waiting for standby tickets for the sold out flight (that may or may not materialize), or risking a very short connection in Singapore (that would leave them stranded in a different country if they didn't make it). Ultimately, their motivation to take the Singapore flight was due to them still having to face a Speed Bump task in that leg, so they risked it. They were able to catch the connection, whereas missing it would have likely meant certain elimination. ^note They also did not see Margie & Luke at the airport before they decided to make their risky connection, and assumed that they were on the first flight with the other teams.
• No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Brendon & Rachel talked Luke down when he was falling apart at the drink mixing Detour, and talked him out of taking a time penalty, encouraging him to continue. Lo and behold, Margie & Luke finished the Detour first and Brendon & Rachel arrived at the Pit Stop last, only to be saved by a non-elimination leg. Margie even pointed this out at the Pit Stop:
  Margie: Rachel was so nice, and she was so encouraging. She's probably regretting that right now.
• Nothing Personal: How Brendon tried apologizing to Dave & Connor for the U-Turn. However, by the way he went about it, it didn't go nearly as well as Dave & Connor's apology to Leo & Jamal.
• Obi-Wan Moment/Prayer Is a Last Resort: Upon being the last team at the drink mixing Detour, and seeing that Brendon was falling apart, Rachel told him to pray with her, where she said they couldn't give up on the Race, each other, or life. They then completed the task and were saved by a non-elimination.
• One-Hour Work Week: Brendon was making his fourth appearance on a CBS reality show since 2010 despite working on a doctorate.
• "Open!" Says Me: They were the only team to succeed at prying open the box holding the keys to the first Roadblock before actually getting there and being asked for the keys, Rachel climbing into the back of the SUV to get tools that allowed Brendon to break open the box (not that it helped their performance at the actual Roadblock).
• Pixellation: Rachel decided to take her shorts off and do the Waterfall Roadblock in her underwear. When she ended up slipping while rappelling, her legs splayed towards the camera, her crotch got blurred out.
• Portmanteau Couple Name: In-Universe. Acknowledged by their "Brenchel" shirts.
• Read the Freaking Manual: Read the Freaking Clue:
  • Rachel during the Fill 'Er Up Roadblock, as she started filling up green tuk-tuks instead of tuk-tuks with green cards on the windshield.
  • In leg 11, Rachel grabbed a size 10 pair of boots at the Boot It Detour, when they were instructed to choose a size 9 or 11, forcing them to do the entire task over.
• Reality Show Genre Blindness: Their decision to go to a travel agency instead of straight to the airport to begin leg 10, even though it was the middle of the afternoon, caused them to miss the first flight to Spain, forcing them to fight to avoid elimination.
• Redhead In Green: Rachel again, and she even had sparkly green shorts to match her sparkly green shirt from Season 20.
• Relationship Upgrade: They had gotten married since their last season.
• Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: During interviews, Rachel bashed Caroline & Jennifer for being extremely dependent on the other teams. We will never know what really happened between them (due to the fact that the show never showed them interacting at all), but it definitely showed how she and Brendon did not respect Caroline & Jennifer as racers.
• Small Name, Big Ego: They bolted out of the London Heathrow Airport because, as Rachel said, they did not want anyone following them and copying off their "awesomeness."
• Smug Snake: After they U-Turned Dave & Connor, they turned into this with all their talk of "playing strategically," while making huge strategic mistakes.
  • This was even worse in the Deleted Scenes, where all their talk of strategy showed that a lot of their logic was skewed, such as Rachel thinking that her hiding their bags at the Ballz Detour, so that Leo & Jamal wouldn't know they were there, might have led to them not getting U-Turned^note Not thinking that if Leo & Jamal thought they were far behind, which was the goal, the Afghanimals would U-Turn them anyway to ensure their elimination. Leo & Jamal pointed out repeatedly in those same deleted scenes that Brendon & Rachel were playing a horrible strategic game, playing to win legs instead of making the Final 3, and were not as big of a threat as they thought due to being extremely mistake prone.
• Sore Loser: Rachel lost it in the finale, breaking down in tears over how she wanted to win "so bad," and, when it became apparent they weren't going to win, started crying over how she wasn't going to get her baby. Could also apply as Broken Tears.
  • They complained in post-race interviews that they were never given a fair shot in the final leg due to the bad cab driver.
• Spotlight-Stealing Squad: In general due to their status as CBS's current Super Couple, but spending four straight legs barely fending off elimination and the U-Turn feuding got them a lion share of airtime.
• A Storm Is Coming: Right before they crashed their raft during the leg 3 Detour, shots of the sky clouding up were shown.
• Strategy Versus Tactics: Their decision to U-Turn Dave & Connor in leg 8 reeked with short-sighted thinking, as they seemed to be the only team thinking about winning individual legs over making the Final 3. While they gained a small lead for the next leg and the $15,000 prize, they put a huge target on their backs with the other teams for U-Turning Dave & Connor when neither of them were in danger^note They even said in a Confession Cam that they expected Dave & Connor to survive the leg, especially when the teams had been mostly congenial with each other so far, and were starving for a villain. Additionally, they left themselves defenseless when the chances were fairly high of a second U-Turn board down the road.
• Tempting Fate:
  • Before beginning the third leg, Rachel said they wanted to maintain their position in the top 3, only for a bad cab driver to drop them behind six other teams, putting them on the second flight, which was three hours later than the first.
  • Later in the leg, during the Detour, they said Jessica & John's raft was poorly constructed while theirs was sturdy. Jessica & John's stayed intact while theirs fell apart when they ran into some rocks.
  • In the next leg, Rachel boasted about her experience as a cocktail waitress as they chose the drink mixing Detour. They took over three hours to complete the Detour, ultimately finishing last in the non-elimination leg.

  • At the beginning of the 11th leg, they talked about how Rachel had not freaked out yet (despite what happened during the Ballz Detour in the previous leg). She would lose it after she screwed up the Detour later in that leg.
  • In the finale, Rachel proclaimed that she used to work at the Mirage when the clue directed them there. They proceeded to get lost trying to find the box.
• This Is A Race:
  • At the remote controlled chariot Detour, Dave & Connor were feet away from completing the task when Brendon & Rachel's chariot blasted off backwards from the starting line, the trailing drivers fish hooking Dave & Connor's chariot and preventing them from crossing the finish line in time. When Dave got upset, Rachel said it was an accident, then immediately contradicted herself with, "It's a race, guys."
  • They both said it again in Leg 8 after Dave confronted them about the U-Turn.
• Troll: Doing the Roadblock in Switzerland, while riding the gondola up to exchange his empty milk jugs, Brendon wrote, "TAR 24 winners Brenchel" on the window of the gondola for another team to find. Connor (who was riding the Gondola down) got annoyed and wiped the window clean.
• Urban Legends: They chose their donkeys at the Donkey Run Detour based on the belief that donkeys who just pooped are faster.
• Villainous Underdog: To Dave & Connor by the end of the season.
• Wolverine Publicity: They were cast more due to them being CBS's current Super Couple rather then their performance on Season 20, where they had been overshadowed gameplay-wise by Dave & Rachel and Art & J.J., and Rachel's constant whining had made them generally unpopular with fans.
• Would Hit a Girl: During the Ballz Detour, Rachel accused the other Ballz players of this after they started slamming her to the pavement. Their response was to tackle her some more.
• Wronski Feint: Seeing that Leo & Jamal were lost looking for the Roadblock in the U.K., and were planning on following them, Brendon made a feint that he was heading for one ramp on the road, then quickly pulled off, tricking Jamal into driving off in the wrong direction and getting them a valuable lead on the Afghanimals.

Leo Temory & Jamal Zadran (The Afghanimals) (Season 23, 4th Place)

The hammy cousins were back, ready to take their antics across the world again. Having spent the majority of Season 23 being singled out by the other teams due to their blatant lies and less-than-subtle scheming, they came back having learned their lesson, being more subtle with their lies and plotting, picking their spots to strike at the other teams. This, along with being out of Marie's shadow, meant they got an edit that showed them in a much better light. They made it all the way to the penultimate leg again, even getting themselves a lead following the free kick task in Liverpool. However, they got lost driving to both the Roadblock and the Detour, putting them far enough behind that not even Rachel's huge mistake at the Boot It Detour was enough for them to catch up, and they were eliminated in 4th once again.

• Always Second Best: They fell just short of the Final 3 for the second time.
• As Long as It Sounds Foreign:
  • They mangled their Italian to the Pit Stop greeter in Orvieto, which Phil joked about.
  • Upon finishing the Roadblock in leg 11, the task judge told Jamal "Congratulations" in Welsh, and he responded with "Guten Morgen" (good morning in German).
• Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Leo had a definite problem with staying focused. He was distracted from building his raft in leg 3 by the Malaysian tribal dancers, and joked around with the workers during the Sewing Roadblock.
• Became Their Own Antithesis: After decrying Travis & Nicole and Jason & Amy helping each other at tasks during Season 23, this time they were the ones working closely with other teams and targeting Brendon & Rachel for striking out and doing their own thing. They freely gave Jessica & John and Flight Time & Big Easy answers to a Roadblock for promise of favors down the road, and helped out Caroline & Jennifer at the Mustang task in Leg 9. Though it comes off as hypocritical on the surface, they freely admitted to the hypocrisy of it all, and, as a strategy, wanted to be on the side targeting instead of being the ones targeted this time.
• Call-Back:
  • They discussed the lies that led them to being U-Turned twice in their original season.
  • Right before being U-Turned by Dave & Connor, they discussed their two previous U-Turns, and their Overly Narrow Superlative of being the only team to survive two U-Turns.^note However, they actually did set a real record upon surviving their third U-Turn, as no team had survived three Yields.
  • Leg 11, they mentioned also having gotten eliminated in the penultimate leg of Season 23, when Leo messed up the robot building Roadblock.
  • Jamal compared the Welsh poetry Roadblock to the German song he had to learn in Austria during Season 23.
• Casanova Wannabe: Leo again, though less pronounced without Ally & Ashley to flirt with constantly, and Caroline & Jennifer being much more savvy flirts.
• Character Development: They learned their lesson about weaving paper thin lies after Season 23, as they chose not to lie to Jet & Cord about the food delivery Detour in leg 3 when they had the chance; a lie that would have been both unnecessary (as they were three hours ahead of the teams on the second flight) and unbelievable (as any lie would have been immediately discovered by the Cowboys once they reached the other Detour point). Their decision to temper their scheming allowed them to get through the season without being targeted by the other teams, and even help put the target on Brendon & Rachel instead.
• Chekhov's Hobby: Leo's mom made him do calligraphy as a kid, allowing him to breeze through the calligraphy Roadblock despite his tendency to be easily distracted.
• Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: After spending one leg racing with the Accidental Alliance, they changed their plans to target Brendon & Rachel with the U-Turn to go after Jet & Cord instead, and in the following leg rooted for Dave & Connor's elimination, as they rather would have faced the more mistake prone Brendon & Rachel in the finale. Going back further, the Deleted Scenes show that they had a loose alliance with Brendon & Rachel before the U-Turn formed the Accidental Alliance, and after the U-Turn, Leo helped Connor at the calligraphy Roadblock, ensuring the Globetrotters' (already ensured) elimination, despite helping Flight Time & Big Easy at the Roman numeral Roadblock in the previous leg in trade for not U-Turning them down the line. The only team in the top 6 they didn't betray in any way were Caroline & Jennifer, who they wanted to keep around as a finale goat.
• Cutting the Knot: While racing Jet & Cord to the 6th Pit Stop, while the Cowboys took the bridge over the train tracks, Leo & Jamal just ran across the train tracks, allowing them to catch up to the Cowboys and ultimately beat them to the mat by seconds.
• Defeat Means Friendship: Dave & Connor U-Turned them in leg 8, and right after Dave & Connor apologized and explained the U-Turn, they immediately formed an alliance with Dave & Connor.
• Elimination Montage
• Failed a Spot Check:
  • They and Natalie & Nadiya actually found the right dress shop in the first leg, but they turned away from it because they misread the street sign.
  • They didn't think to use the box the parts came in during the Donkey Puzzle Detour even though the clue told them to use everything provided to build their donkey. They eventually got assistance from Dave & Connor while they were doing the other Detour in anticipation of the U-Turn.
• Friend to All Children: They got excited every time they got to do a task with, around, or for children.
• Game-Breaking Injury: Jamal busted up his knee during the Ballz Detour, causing them to reconsider the original plan to U-Turn Brendon & Rachel. Jamal's knee got so bad that they ended up walking from the U-Turn to the Pit Stop, allowing Brendon & Rachel (who they had an hour lead on to begin the day) to pass them up, leaving them in 3rd place.
• The Glomp: They liked to do this to task judges after completing tasks.
• Heel–Face Turn: After spending two-thirds of Season 23 as a second-tier villain, being overshadowed by Marie, on All-Stars they became much more likable team, especially since they stopped telling the blatant lies that brought so much negative attention upon them.
• History Repeats:
  • Once again, they got U-Turned. At least Dave & Connor were polite enough to tell them why and help them to complete the Donkey Build Detour.
    • And when they did use their U-Turn power, the team who they used it on ended up getting eliminated that leg after they botched the Detour before the U-Turn. ^note In their original season, it was Brandon & Adam who would get eliminated.
  • They were eliminated in 4th place despite being in first after the first task of the leg.
  • Once again, a team that finished 4th on their original season finishes 4th again on an All-Star season.
• Honor Before Reason:
  • When Jamal came across Flight Time completely baffled by the Roadblock at the Spanish Steps, he immediately told Flight Time what he was doing wrong.
  • After completing the calligraphy Roadblock, Leo went back to help Connor, the team who had just U-Turned them.^note Though this was probably only because the Globetrotters had fallen far behind, and hadn't even shown up to the Roadblock yet.
  • Leo stopped to help Caroline & Jennifer complete the Mustang task in leg 9, despite being in close races for both first and last.
• Hypocrisy Nod: See Became Their Own Antithesis.
• Jaw Drop: Jamal, when they arrived at the seventh Pit Stop in Rome to discover that they were team number 5, which meant they were not in front of Caroline & Jennifer like they had thought, and Jessica & John, who were standing right next to them, were eliminated.
• Language Barrier: They commented on how since they couldn't speak Chinese, they just made airplane noises to tell their cab driver to go to the airport:
  Jamal: When you don't speak Chinese, just make random noises.
• Large Ham: In particular, their scene chewing at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool stood out amidst a rather hammy season for them.
• Muscles Are Meaningful:
  • This was likely their reason for seeing Jet & Cord as the biggest threat^note In a Deleted Scene, they called the Cowboys the best team to ever run the Race, despite their navigation issues, because they were good at the tasks, despite Dave & Connor running the overall better season.
  • Their reason for picking the shorter goalie during the soccer task in Liverpool.
• The Navigator: They both boasted about not needing to stop for directions after they navigated their way through Switzerland. This did not end up saving them in the U.K.
• No Indoor Voice: In accordance with their Large Ham status.
• No Sense of Direction: Getting lost looking for both the Roadblock and the Detour in the U.K. cost them the Race.
• Schemer: Though they were much more subdued about it this time, in order not to get U-Turned again.
  • Jamal gave the answer to the Roman numeral Roadblock at the Spanish Steps to both Flight Time and John in exchanges for promises not to beat them that leg or U-Turn them down the road. While they were likely safe at that point, having already completed the Roadblock, they incorrectly assumed that Caroline & Jennifer were behind them, the girls having a Speed Bump that leg (while not realizing that their own bad cab driver had cost them precious time getting to the Roadblock). This resulted in a footrace to the Pit Stop, and likely resulted in Jessica & John being eliminated instead of Flight Time & Big Easy.
• Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Lampshaded by Leo during the sewing Roadblock. He (jokingly) offered 1000 rupees for anyone who would sew the shirt for him. And when he was close to finishing, he offered to sell the work for 1000 rupees, calling it a "Leo Original".
• Small Name, Big Ego: They overestimated their own performance again at the beginning of leg 6, saying they were the only team with a strong showing not to win a leg so far. However, prior to winning that leg, they only had a mere two 3rd place finishes, one of which came on a leg where they were one of three teams on the first flight, three hours ahead of the other teams, yet only managed to beat Caroline & Jennifer to the Pit Stop by 30 minutes.
• Strategy Versus Tactics: Even though their gameplay left them with only one top 2 finish, their strategy had greatly improved from the huge mess it had been during Season 23, where they had put a huge target on their backs with the other teams. This time, they played the best long game of any of the teams, and managed to put themselves into a good position entering the final four, with only their own poor navigation costing them the Race. Had they not gotten lost twice, their decision to spare the mistake prone Brendon & Rachel over Jet & Cord would have put them in the Final 3, meaning their strategy was good, but their tactics ultimately cost them the game.
• Stubborn Mule: Jamal's first donkey at the Donkey Run Detour refused to cooperate, running backwards from the starting line.
• Tempting Fate:
  • Just like last season when he went into a food preparation Detour saying he owned a restaurant, Leo boasted the fact he worked as a bartender. He and Jamal struggled on the Drink Mixing Detour, eventually switching (as they had also done the first time).
  • In Leg 8, they talked about surviving two U-Turns in their previous season and wondering if they would be U-Turned again. Lo and behold, they were U-Turned by Dave & Connor, but at least this time they had the courtesy of an apology and the U-Turning team helping them with one of the Detours.
• This Is A Race: Their reasoning for breaking from the plan to U-Turn Brendon & Rachel and target the Cowboys instead was that the Cowboys were the bigger threat.
• Unknown Rival: Early on, they became fixated on beating the Cowboys, which Jet & Cord would only become aware of once the second U-Turn in Seville came into play.
• Wardrobe Malfunction: Leo's pants started falling down during the Running With the Ballz Detour, when he was stuck inside the inflatable ball and couldn't easily pull them up.
• Wham Line:
  Jamal: The strongest team in this race is still the Cowboys. It only makes sense to U-Turn them.
• Will Talk for a Price: They decided to give the correct Roman numerals to Flight Time and John at the leg 7 Roadblock, as long as neither team beat them on that leg, or U-Turned them in the future.

Jet McCoy & Cord McCoy (The Cowboys) (Season 16, 2nd Place; Unfinished Business, 6th Place)

Cord: Everybody wants to be a cowboy.

The fan favorite Cowboys returned for their third shot at the million. After a mediocre performance on Unfinished Business, they looked to have returned to form, winning two of the first four legs and, with an Express Pass under their belts, appeared to be a good bet to ride into the Final 3. Despite starting leg 10 neck and neck with Leo & Jamal and Dave & Connor, they got lost looking for the Zurich airport, putting them on the second flight into Spain with the trailing teams. Their situation worsened when they had trouble with the Detour, both locating the clue for it and completing the task, putting them in last place. This might not have proven to be an issue, except that Leo & Jamal had deviated from the Accidental Alliance's plan to U-Turn Brendon & Rachel, switching to the Cowboys, who they saw as a much bigger threat. Seeing their picture on the U-Turn board, the Cowboys knew their race was over, and they became the last of the three (and a half) teams returning for a third time to be eliminated, this time in 5th place.

Running the race for the third time, they set the record for most legs run by a team in The Amazing Race, tying Flight Time & Big Easy at 31 legs.^note The record holders prior to this season were Dustin & Kandice at 25 legs run together, and Eric Sanchez at 26 legs total.

• The Ace: How they were portrayed and seen by the other teams. It was their inability to live up to the overwhelming expectations everyone set for them that caused them to fall into Every Year They Fizzle Out.
• As the Good Book Says...: Jet quotes Proverbs 21:31 ("The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.") upon their elimination; He didn't give them victory today but they were grateful for the chance to compete regardless.
• Asian Drivers: Mentioned by Jet, when he compared the teams all crashing into each other at the remote controlled chariot race to Sri Lankan taxi drivers, though it was more in reference to their wild car chase against the Afghanimals a few Legs earlier.
• Call-Back: Their promotional photo was taken in the exact same pose as their Season 16 photo.
• Catchphrase: "Oh, my gravy," again. They even got a montage of them saying it during their intro.
• Cowboy: The rodeo riding kind.
• Cutting the Knot: While all the teams were scuffling for position at the two gas pumps the gas station Roadblock, Cord just guided his tuks-tuks around to the other side of the gas station and had them back in to circumvent the line. While a brilliant strategy, Leo dropped a quote that pointed out the irony of the situation when compared to how they reacted to Dan & Jordan's cutting in the Season 16 finale:
  Leo: Cowboys never waiting in line, just cut everybody.
• A Death in the Limelight: Subverted, their final leg looked to be setting up Brendon & Rachel's elimination, what with the U-Turn board and Brendon & Rachel being the prime target. There was no hint that the Cowboys might be going home until Leo & Jamal hit the U-Turn mat, after which it became obvious they were going home.
• Every Year They Fizzle Out: Despite being early favorites to win all three of their seasons, they lost all three times. This time, despite their mediocre performance during Unfinished Business, they were once again portrayed as some unstoppable force the other teams feared. Even though they won two legs, they never looked as dominating as they had been in Season 16^note Then again, Season 16 was not a strong season to begin with, and were ultimately once again done in by their struggles with navigation and non-physical or technically based tasks.
• Failed a Spot Check:
  • Cord had to repeat the Waterfall Roadblock because he was looking the wrong way and passed up the clue during his rappel.
  • They took forever to find the Detour clue at the Alcazar of Seville in leg 10. Combined with their later gaffe at the Running With the Ballz Detour, where they completely missed their first sign, and then had to backtrack to see what it said, allowed the Speed Bumped Caroline & Jennifer to catch up and pass them, putting them in last place and setting them up for elimination.
• Goshdang It To Heck: Good Southern Christian boys, they used swears like "Daggummit!" and "Gosh darnit!"
• History Repeats: Running behind due to a navigational mistake, they were once again U-Turned when they were already in last place and likely going to get eliminated anyway as the Detour was placed right before the Pit Stop, and then had to complete the U-Turn with the knowledge that they were going to get eliminated. They even called the team that U-Turned them, "suckers," again.
• Honor Is Fair Play: They again made comments about leaving with their integrity intact after getting eliminated. Further expanded on in elimination interviews, where they noted that they would not have U-Turned Caroline & Jennifer, even if they had beaten the country singers to the mat.
• Iconic Item: Their black and white cowboy hats.
• In-Series Nickname: The Cowboys.
• Language Barrier: They fell from first to last at the beginning of the second leg when they misunderstood a local who only spoke Chinese. He told them that the Chen Clan Academy was 50 minutes away, they thought he said 5, so they decided to run it.
• Leitmotif: They got a different generic cowboy theme this time, though their original cowboy theme made a brief appearance during the remote controlled chariot task in the seventh leg.
• Loners Are Freaks: Averted, as they are popular with both the other teams and the fans, despite their notable tendency to isolate themselves. During Leg 2, they gave the second Express Pass to Caroline & Jen at the Toy Car Roadblock partially so that they wouldn't have to put up with any more hemming and hawing from other teams had they hung on to it, even though they had pissed off the other teams by doing so.^note Which was discussed during a Deleted Scene.
• No Sense of Direction:
  • In leg 9, they got lost on the way to Roma Termini train station, missing the first train to Switzerland that all the other teams got on. Luckily, an overnight equalizer in Altdorf caught them up.
  • The following leg, they got lost on the way to the Zurich airport, causing them to miss the first flight and turning what should have been an easy leg into a battle to avoid elimination.
• Out of Focus: They weren't significant in the second half of the season due to the drama surrounding the U-Turns.
• Riding into the Sunset: The Pit Stop greeter at their elimination was a horsewoman, so the episode ends with Cord climbing onto her horse and riding away (after asking the horsewoman for permission and with her walking beside the horse).
• Second Place Is for Losers: Their reaction to losing the footrace to the Pit Stop to Leo & Jamal in leg 6.
• Sibling Team
• Spotlight-Stealing Squad: This was their third attempt at the Race, when there are at least a dozen teams who fans would like to see again who haven't even had a second chance. However, during the actual season they became background characters compared to the other teams.
• Sore Loser: Averted, as for the first time Jet was not bitter at the Finish Line.
• Tall Poppy Syndrome: After Jamal injured his knee, he and Leo decided to U-Turn Jet & Cord instead of their original plan to U-Turn Brendon & Rachel, as Jet & Cord's reputation had caused the cousins to single them out as the bigger threat.
• Unskilled, but Strong: They once again excelled at physical and technical tasks, but struggled with mental tasks and navigation.

Herbert "Flight Time" Lang & Nathaniel "Big Easy" Lofton (The Globetrotters) (Season 15, 4th Place; Unfinished Business, 2nd Place)

Having just missed out on the million on Unfinished Business, Flight Time & Big Easy were back to rectify their only two losses in their careers as Globetrotters. Notorious for being information leeches in their previous two seasons, they were put at a disadvantage amongst a group of teams who were far less willing to share information, along with a course that allowed less answer sharing during tasks. This, along with Big Easy's increased weight causing him to struggle on any task that didn't involve pure strength or his communication skills, resulted in them being outmatched by the other teams, never rising higher than 5th place in the standings, and finishing a consistent 6th place for their last five legs. Starting Leg 8 in last place and without an equalizer to catch them up to the other teams, they got lost trying to drive from Rome to Bagnoregio, then put themselves further behind by switching Detours twice. They never saw another team following the Detour, and were eliminated in 6th place.

Running the race a third time, they tied Jet & Cord for the record for most legs run in The Amazing Race at 31.^note The record holders prior to this season were Dustin & Kandice at 25 legs run together, and Eric Sanchez at 26 legs total.

• Big Fun: Big Easy gained a noticeable amount of weight since Unfinished Business, enough to put him in this category.
• The Big Guy: Big Easy, as the tallest contestant the show has ever had.
• Call-Back: Trailing in Leg 8, they said they would make a Beekman-like comeback, including a flashback to Josh & Brent running up to the Pit Stop in the 5th leg, which also happened to be the leg Brent & Josh finished in last.
• Clothes Make the Legend: Invoked once again in order to get help from people they meet due to their status as Globetrotters.
  • The fourth leg saw them, for the first time, wearing shirts that didn't have the Globetrotter logo on them.
• Elimination Montage: Their third in three seasons, though this one was at the end of a season where they struggled to compete and didn't stand out very much.
• Face Plant: Flight Time had a rather costly one while running to the Trunk Detour in leg 6. Only four teams were able to do the Detour, and they were the 5th team to get the clue. Flight Time's face plant cost them any chance they had of catching one of the other teams to claim one of the four spots.
• Failed a Spot Check: In their final leg, they had trouble with the Donkey Build part of the Detour, failing to notice that the box the donkey cart came in was part of the donkey. Flight Time even picked up the box at one point, then put it down before deciding to switch Detours again.
• The Glomp: The finale's title sequence featured Flight Time jumping into Big Easy's arms after completing the music mixing Detour.
• Hometown Nickname: Big Easy, who is from New Orleans.
• Hammerspace: Flight Time once again produced a basketball, this time while Big Easy was sewing his shirt at the Roadblock in Sri Lanka.
• History Repeats: A pair of huge Lovable Jocks fall far behind due to a travel mistake and end up saying their ultimate comeback would make them the second coming of the Beekman Boys, only for them to get eliminated later that leg. The same exact thing happened to Chester & Ephraim.
• Huge Rider, Tiny Mount: All of Big Easy's donkeys at the Donkey Run Detour.
• In-Series Nickname: The Globetrotters.
• Large Ham: They are Globetrotters, being over the top is part of the job description.
• Leitmotif: The Globetrotters' Theme, Sweet Georgia Brown.
• The Load:
  • At the start of the Race this was averted as they didn't have the opportunity to leech off of anyone. However, they got up to their old tricks again in leg 7, only surviving because Jamal gave Flight Time the answer to the Roman numeral Roadblock.
  • Big Easy's size and notable struggles with mental tasks in previous seasons caused them issues with several Roadblocks during the race. He could not do the aerial somersaults or Waterfall Roadblocks due to his size, and was ill fit for the toy car, sewing, Roman numeral, and calligraphy Roadblocks^note Not that Flight Time did any better with the Roman numerals, putting them in the precarious position of Flight Time having done the first three Roadblocks. Of these Roadblocks, he only did the shirt sewing in leg 5, and he struggled so much, he could have gotten them eliminated if not for Margie & Luke having all but disappeared thanks to missing the first flight.
• Lovable Jock
• Muscles Are Meaningful: Big Easy wasn't allowed to perform the aerial somersaults or Waterfall Roadblocks, and further had trouble riding their raft and donkeys, all due to his size^note It should be pointed out that a similar occurrence happened in their Original Season 15 where Big Easy's weight caused him to get stuck during the Aerial Rope Detour.
• No Sense of Direction: They got lost during the drive from Rome to Bagnoregio.
• Only Known by Their Nickname
• Out of Focus: They lasted eight legs, but never got a storyline. Their airtime was limited to them completing tasks, talking about how their mediocre performance didn't matter as they only cared about staying in the Race, and a single scene of them goofing off per episode.
• Read the Freaking Clue: Flight Time messed up the Roman numeral Roadblock by not realizing that he had to add together the number of steps and the number written on the obelisk in Roman numerals, then convert the answer back to Roman Numerals, instead choosing to write down the number of steps in normal Arabic numerals. He only figured out the answer because Jamal gave it to him, and barely avoided elimination with a footrace to the Pit Stop.
• Record Needle Scratch: At the fourth Pit Stop, after completing the music mixing Detour, Flight Time started air scratching for Phil. Phil quickly shut this down, accompanied by a Record Needle Scratch.
• Redemption Quest: Their only two losses since joining the Globetrotters had been their two previous attempts at the Race, and they wanted to rectify this.
• Running Gag: Though Big Easy's adventures with tiny vehicles has been touched on in previous seasons, his struggles in getting out of cabs have been paid special attention this season.
• Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: They attempted to do this to the bus driver on the way to the Pit Stop in Leg 5, asking him to drive them directly there and not making any stops. It must have worked, as they got there before Brendon & Rachel, despite finishing the Roadblock after them.
• Spotlight-Stealing Squad: This was their third attempt at the Race, when there are at least a dozen teams who fans would like to see again who haven't even had a second chance. Though during the actual episodes they were fairly Out of Focus.
• Stubborn Mule: One donkey would not move for either Flight Time or Big Easy during the Donkey Run Detour in Leg 8, thus causing them to switch Detours the first time.
• Textile Work Is Feminine: Big Easy had a lot of trouble during the sewing Roadblock in Sri Lanka to the point he said that when he needs sewing done, his mother or fiancée will do it instead.
• Trash Talk: It comes naturally with them being Globetrotters.
• Wrongfully Attributed: In his final Roadblock, Flight Time tried to compare himself to Leonardo DiCaprio instead of Leonardo da Vinci, and attempted to correct himself by mentioning it as "one of the Leonardos".

Jessica Hoel & John Erck (Season 22, 9th Place)

After suffering the most humiliating elimination in Race history, going home while still holding an Express Pass, the now engaged couple returned for redemption. Unlike in their previous season, where they were portrayed as a cutthroat team (with John hogging the spotlight and Jessica being merely a Satellite Character), they did not appear to have the same drive as they did before. As a result, they hovered around the bottom of the pack, finishing above 5th place only once.

In Rome, they had the most trouble figuring out the puzzle clue leading the to the Spanish Steps^note It told them to go to the Piazza of John Keats' unhappy Roman Holiday, which meant the Piazza di Spagna, where Keats died. They simply asked their driver to take them to John Keats "Piazza" (plaza), which does not exist in Rome, so their driver, as well as the drivers of Jet & Cord, Flight Time & Big Easy, and Leo & Jamal, took them to the closest thing, John Keats "Via" (road). The teams who interpreted the clue correctly ended up taking the top three spots on the leg, resulting in them dropping from first place to last between leaving the Detour and arriving at the Roadblock. There Jessica panicked, and, thinking they all still had a buffer over the Speed Bumped Caroline & Jennifer (who had completed the task long before any of them had arrived), asked Jamal to give both John and Flight Time the answer to the Roadblock, something John was a lot closer to figuring out for himself at that point. As John had to retrieve a postcard to properly complete the Roadblock, one that Flight Time already had in his hand, this cost them valuable time that ultimately led to them losing a footrace to the Globetrotters, ending up in 7th place.

• Call-Back: They often referred to their infamous elimination:
  • Their intro had them quoting Phil's, "Oy vey," after their embarrassing elimination from Season 22.
  • They were very vocal about not wanting to win the Express Passes.
  • At the toy car Roadblock, they talked about their alliance with Joey & Meghan in Season 22.
  • At the beginning of the fourth leg, the mentioned that it was the leg where they'd gotten eliminated last time.
  • In the fifth leg, they mentioned Detour switching as one of the reasons why they fell behind on their last leg in Season 22. They did switch, however, this worked out better for them as they completed the Spin Control Detour on their second try.
  • Their final leg once again flashed back to their elimination in Season 22.
• Character Development: Jessica got more focus this time around compared to Season 22, in which she was merely a Satellite Character. She also appeared to have more influence in their team decision making.
• The Ditz: Being less villainous this time, John was this:
  • His attempt at building a raft in leg 3 resulted in the worst looking raft of any team, yet he insisted on putting it in the water and riding on it. Somehow it stayed together.
  • At the gladiatorial Detour, John kept telling Jessica not to use her shield for the gladiator's first strike. She didn't, but he did several times, causing them to repeatedly fail.
• Down to the Last Play: They were eliminated after losing a footrace to the mat in leg 7.
• Expository Hairstyle Change: John grew his hair out over the previous year, and was a lot more laid back than he was on Season 22.
• History Repeats: They got eliminated again after thinking another team had fallen far behind them at the Roadblock^note In their original season, they thought it was Mona & Beth.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Jessica panicked and asked Jamal to give them the right Roman numeral, forcing a footrace with the Globetrotters (advantage: Globetrotters) instead of letting John and Flight Time race to figure it out first (advantage: John).
• Honor Before Reason: When Rachel was falling apart at the gas station Roadblock in leg 6, John told her she was filling up the wrong tuk-tuks ^note possibly because she had one of his, also possibly to get her to stop yelling, "Green" at the top of her lungs over and over. Doing this allowed Brendon & Rachel to barely make the first train. Had they missed it, it probably would have been an automatic last place, making the other six teams safe for the rest of the leg.
• Idiot Ball: Upon beating Dave & Connor in a footrace to the 6th Pit Stop, they said this was the first time they had beaten Dave & Connor in a leg in their entire race career. It was actually the second time. Normally, this would not be that important, as teams forget small details like exact finishing order all the time, except the last time Jessica & John had beaten Dave & Connor they won the Double Express Passes, something they couldn't have done had they finished behind Dave & Connor. The Express Passes became their entire storyline on Season 22 and their failure to use it was the only reason they had been invited back.
• Once Done, Never Forgotten: Their elimination while holding an Express Pass.
• Out of Focus: They had the least airtime of the teams who made it halfway through the season. This is in contrast with Season 22, where they competed with Dave & Connor for having the most airtime through the first four legs.
• Relationship Upgrade: They were dating on their last season. This time they were engaged.
• Same Character, But Different: They had one of the greatest four-leg stints in Race history on Season 22, being an entertaining Smug Snake Disc-One Final Boss in one of the show's better seasons. However, they were neither as villainous, nor nearly as entertaining this time around, leading to them being put badly Out of Focus.
• Villain Decay: Without the second Express Pass, they were a lot less villainous, but they were also a lot less dangerous as well.

Margaret "Margie" O'Donnell & Luke Adams (Season 14, 3rd Place; Unfinished Business, 8th Place)

Having lost the Race twice because of Luke falling apart at Roadblocks, the mother/son team returned for their third shot at the million, this time without the support of their previous alliances with Jaime & Cara and Mel & Mike. Despite strong finishes in the first three legs, a flight delay and struggling with the Drink Mixing Detour caused them to start the fifth leg in the back of the pack. Upon arriving at the airport to discover the first flight to Sri Lanka was sold out, they decided to gamble on getting standby tickets instead of taking the equally big gamble of trying to catch a connecting flight in Singapore with only a 30-minute layover. When the standby tickets did not materialize, they were forced to take a flight the next morning instead, pushing them over 4 hours behind the other teams. This deficit was too much to overcome, and they finished in 8th.

• Action Mom: In the second leg, the only person who completed the Toy Car Roadblock faster than she did was Mark (this is excluding Caroline, who used the second Express Pass).
• Call-Back:
  • Luke said he wanted his mom to do the toy car Roadblock because she was mechanically inclined, having done the propeller Roadblock in Season 14, and built the dinosaur in Season 18, with flashbacks to both.
  • In the 4th leg, finding themselves suddenly on the last flight with Flight Time & Big Easy, they talked about how they were in a very familiar place, having been the fourth team eliminated in Season 18, finishing the leg right behind Flight Time & Big Easy. Counts as Foreshadowing considering what happened in the following episode.
    • Later in the leg, Luke compared his meltdown at the drink mixing Detour to the tea tasting Roadblock that had eliminated them in Season 18, and upon checking in at the Pit Stop, Phil asked Luke what the deal was with him and drinks.
    • After Luke was calmed down by Rachel, they mentioned how she wasn't as whiny as they had expected from watching Season 20.
• Chewing the Scenery: Luke did this without actually speaking most of the time. Just watch his over-exaggerated gestures.
• Everybody Knew Already: Margie's reaction to Luke coming out to her.
• Failed a Spot Check: It took them a while to spot their clue on the door of their bubble in the first leg, while Jet & Cord looked on to see whether they or Brendon & Rachel would find their clue first.
• Fatal Flaw: Luke's lack of patience nearly cost them the race again, this time at the drink mixing Detour in Malaysia, only for Brendon & Rachel to calm him down and help him work through it.
• Hide Your Gays: Finally averted with Luke, in their third season and 22nd leg, who detailed his coming out story.
• History Repeats: They were eliminated in 8th place in an All-Star edition after stumbling in the Indian subcontinent. Only a transportation quirk, where Flight Time & Big Easy passed Brendon & Rachel on the way to the Pit Stop, kept them from finishing right behind the Globetrotters in their final leg again.
• In-Series Nickname: Margie's "Bionic Woman" nickname returned.
• Inspirationally Disadvantaged: Luke's deafness was less focused on that it was in Season 14, but not completely ignored like in Season 18.
• It's the Journey That Counts: How Margie summed up the ending to their three season character arc. They were finally able to realize they couldn't during their first two attempts, and see that the bonding experience was more important than the money.
• Morton's Fork: Their choice of waiting for standby tickets or taking a risk on a 30-minute layover. On one hand, they could get guaranteed seats on the flight through Singapore, but teams have missed flights with longer layovers than thirty minutes. On the other hand, standby tickets are not that uncommon, as people don't show up for flights all the time, but there's never any guarantee that there will be some available. The layover flight left before they would discover whether or not standby tickets were available, so they had to pick one before knowing if the other would work, and missing either one of those flights would result in them being hours behind the other teams.^note They could only assume they were the only team without secured tickets, as teams haven't been allowed to mingle at Pit Stops since Season 14, so they had no way of knowing that Brendon & Rachel had been non-eliminated
• Never Mess with Granny/Cool Old Lady
• Non-Gameplay Elimination: Of the Mercy Kill variety. As indicated in an elimination interview, they did not perform several of their tasks during the final leg. This likely included the Roadblock, as they were shown briefly at the Detour reading the clue sending them to the Roadblock location, and did not show up again until they were running into the Pit Stop, long after it had turned dark.
• Obi-Wan Moment: Compared to his actions when finishing short during his two previous seasons, Luke was notably calm throughout their final leg, with Phil commenting that he didn't look sad about being eliminated. Luke's response was that they got to run the Race three times, so it was cool.
• Rage Quit: Luke came close to doing this at the drink mixing Detour, and even put the suggestion to Brendon & Rachel that they both take the six-hour penalty for quitting a Detour, only to be talked out of it by Rachel.
• Redemption Quest: During their intro, Luke said he wanted to redeem himself for causing them to lose their first two attempts at the Race. Though they did not win, at least this time he didn't let his frustration be the thing that eliminated them.
• Spotlight-Stealing Squad: This was their third attempt at the Race, when there are at least a dozen teams who fans would like to see again who haven't even had a second chance. Though during the actual season they were not as heavily focused on as they had been in Season 14, they got a lot more focus and airtime than they had when they made it one leg further during Unfinished Business.
• Twofer Token Minority: Luke, being deaf and gay.
• You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Rachel, of all people, gave a speech to Luke when he wanted to quit the drink mixing Detour and take the time penalty.

Joseph "Joey" Graceffa & Meghan Camarena (Team YouTube) (Season 22, 5th Place)

The YouTube hosts returned for another shot at the Race. As expected of a team who only finished above 4th once in their original season, they struggled, never finishing higher than 9th place. Leaving the Pit Start last in the third leg, they got stuck on the later flight to Malaysia, a full three hours behind the lead teams. They compounded their troubles after the Roadblock, as they made the fatal mistake of not keeping their cab, and had to walk down a rural road to find a new one. This put them so far behind they were eliminated in 9th.

• Call-Back:
  • At the toy car Roadblock, they talked about their alliance with Jessica & John in Season 22.
  • After they let their taxi go at the Roadblock in leg 3, and had to start walking towards the Detour, they mentioned how it was similar to when they couldn't find a cab in Switzerland in Season 22, and had to walk to the Pit Stop.
• Camp Gay: Joey, like when he talked about how the bridal shop in the first leg didn't have a dress in his size.
• Lamarck Was Right: Referenced once again in Malaysia, when they said that both of their dads were carpenters, so they should naturally know how to build a raft.
• No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Meghan and John were the last two teams at the toy car Roadblock, fighting to avoid last. Meghan finished first, but instead of taking her clue and leaving, she stopped to help John. Later in the leg, Jessica & John beat them to the mat by seconds, meaning Joey & Meghan would have been eliminated if not for Mark & Mallory's meltdown.
• Proud to Be a Geek: Joey wore a shirt declaring his status as a nerd.
• Reality Show Genre Blindness: Letting their cab go when they were in the middle of nowhere^note In an interview, they claimed they did it because their cab was not functioning properly. It essentially cost them the race.
• Sore Loser: They were rather bitter during post-show interviews, with their biggest complaint being the lack of difficulty of the tasks in their journey and not having a chance to catch up with the others teams due to airport issues.

Mallory Ervin & Mark Jackson ((Season 17, 6th Place; Unfinished Business, 3rd Place) and (Season 20, 5th Place) respectively)

As the fan favorites from Season 20, Mark and his friend Bopper were a natural selection to return for All-Stars. Unfortunately, the night before the race was to start, Bopper was deemed unfit to compete due to an inflamed pancreas. Mark was given the option to run the race anyway, with a replacement partner found for him by the show, and thus the seasonal Crossover team of Mark & Mallory was born.

As expected of a team who barely knew each other, they clashed. Mark felt that Mallory would not listen to his suggestions and strategies, and Mallory felt that Mark did not have the same motivation she and her dad did to win. In leg 2, despite finishing the Toy Car Roadblock faster than anyone else, they accidentally left Mark's backpack behind, and he refused to abandon it, dropping them to the back of the pack. Their subsequent lack of coordination at the Featherball Detour caused them to get eliminated in 10th.

• Failed a Spot Check: Mallory put Mark's bag down after the toy car Roadblock, then ran right past it on her way to the cab.
• Good Ol' Boy: Mark.
• The Hopeless Replacement: Though Mallory was technically the replacement partner, they played this to each other. Mark felt that Mallory did not trust him or listen to his ideas and strategies like Bopper had, and Malory thought that Mark did not have the same drive to win as her father.
• It's the Principle of the Thing: The reason why Mark would not leave his bag when they left it (as he had borrowed it from Dave & Rachel).^note What Mark didn't know is that the Production crews do keep track of lost items. This is what happened to Steve & Allie when they lost their bags at the Detour in Seychelles, production kept the bags when the leg concluded and gave back the bags after the race.
• Late-Arrival Spoiler: Mallory's entire presence, due to replacing Bopper at the Starting Line.
• No Sense of Direction: Mallory admitted this on their drive to LAX.
• Odd Couple: A Good Ol' Boy and a former pageant queen, the only thing they had in common was both being from Kentucky.
• Reality Show Genre Blindness: Mark, who, despite Mallory's pleading that he could run the race without a bag, refused to ditch his bag and forced her to go back and retrieve it.
• Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: Mallory, despite being Mark's official partner for the season, did not appear in any of the promotional material, and was sprung on the viewers as a surprise at the Starting Line.
• Southern Belle: Mallory is a modern version of this.
• Spotlight-Stealing Squad: This was Mallory's third attempt at the Race, when there are at least a dozen teams who fans would like to see again who haven't even had a second chance. This was given further focus by the unique situation they were in due Bopper's illness, which caused them to take up a large amount of airtime in the first two legs, to the point where several other teams were nearly invisible.
• Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: As a result of their last minute team-up. They went from first to last on leg 2 because of fighting over Mark's backpack, and many of their confessionals in their final leg were done separately.
• Unexpected Character: Due to Bopper's injury. They even said they didn't know each other that well, and had nothing in common other than both being from Kentucky.
• Win One For The Bopper

Natalie Anderson & Nadiya Anderson (Twinnies) (Season 21, 4th Place)

The loud, energetic Twinnies were back for another shot at the million. They started off strong by getting on the first flight to China, but, when they landed, they had trouble finding the designated bridal shops, negating their hour lead on the second flight. Then, the twins had a breakdown at the Ferris Wheel, and due to Joey & Meghan being able to find their clue to the Roadblock first, the twins were the first to go. After the season, they were cast on Survivor: San Juan del Sur, which aired the following fall, becoming the first The Amazing Race team to be cast on another CBS Reality show.

• The Ditherer: Nadiya, who was not decisive at a single point, to where Natalie yelled at her to just make a decision at the Roadblock.
• Failed a Spot Check: They and Leo & Jamal actually found the right dress shop, but they turned away from it because they misread the street sign.
• Identical Twin ID Tag: Natalie added a blonde streak to her hair to help tell them apart.
• The Load: Nadiya's dithering would cast her in this light, an image that would that would only grow when Natalie played a much stronger game on Survivor, when Nadiya was voted out first, and Natalie ended up winning.
• No Indoor Voice: Especially at the Ferris Wheel.
• Self-Deprecation: During their Elimination Statement.
• Sibling Rivalry: Worse than it ever was on Season 21, as Nadiya's inability to make a decision caused most of their fights.

• Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: This was the only leg in their racing history in which there was serious infighting between the two of them, and it may have cost them the race.

William "Bopper" Minton (Season 20, 5th Place)

One half of the fan favorite pair from Season 20, Bopper was invited back with his friend Mark. Unfortunately, the night before the Race began, a medical checkup showed that his pancreas was inflamed, and the doctor told him he was unfit to run the Race. With his blessing, Mark ran the race with a different partner, as he did not even cross the Starting Line.

• Advertised Extra: Mark & Bopper were advertised as one of the season's teams, even though he had all of two minutes of airtime at the beginning of the season before he was replaced by Mallory.
• Back for the Finale: Averted. He was mentioned in the Previously on… segment to start the episode, but was not at the Finish Line.
• Call-Back: His and Mark's promotional photo was taken in the exact same pose as their Season 20 photo.
• Career-Ending Injury: Bopper's pancreas was inflamed a day before the race started, and because it could have become fatal, Bopper had to pull himself out of the race.
• History Repeats: An injury cost Bopper the race.
• I Coulda Been a Contender!: Mark, upon hearing that Bopper wouldn't be able to run the Race.
• Manly Tears: Both Mark & Bopper upon Bopper's medical assessment and his elimination.
