The sixth installment of The Amazing Race Canada. The season has been promoted as the Heroes Edition, featuring competitors who are everyday Canadian heroes, including those nominated by viewers. The cast comprising of heroes meant the cast was mostly friendly towards each other, but was also one of the most likable of the Canadian version.

While past Canadian seasons were praised for their varied and difficult tasks, this season was the least successful in that aspect with a high number of performance tasks comprising with one being in almost every leg. Also the prizes and international legs stayed reduced like they had since Season 4. One of the strangest parts was how they left British Columbia in Leg 2 then returned there in Leg 3. However, the season also contained a number of Shocking Eliminations and footraces to avoid elimination (with one leg having both). The finale looked like the first task was gonna decide the winner, who were the frontrunners all season, but a last minute mistake resulted in one of the most surprising winners of the franchise. While not as good as seasons 2-4, it was an improvement over season 5.

Courtney Berglind & Adam Kovacs

Engaged couple. Hero status: First responders. Courtney is a nurse and Adam is a firefighter. They beat the record for lowest finishing average for a winner originally set by Daniel & Cesar and Josh & Brent.

  • Chekhov's Hobby: Adam cites the fact the firefighters tend to pick up a lot of miscellaneous skills, which is why he was able to complete the falconers knot on his first try.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Courtney had packed gloves into her backpack, which made it somewhat easier to carry durians during fourth leg.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Adam, during the Package Detour, not realizing that he missed adding a gold sticker to one of the chocolate boxes he packed.
  • I Can't Dance: Adam, as seen during the many dance challenges during the season. He mentions he will probably have learn for his eventual wedding.
  • No Sense of Direction: Courtney has been seen struggling with using GPS and maps, usually resulting in Adam navigating while Courtney drives.
    • Courtney's sense of direction is so bad, that she couldn't even figure out how to navigate during the helicopter simulator's environment.
  • Read the Freaking Clue:
    • One of the four teams that went to the wrong car manufacturing plant in Oshawa in the fifth leg, not noticing they needed to go to the plant in Ingersoll instead.
    • Adam initially kept memorizing the English title and description for the paintings for the last roadblock of the tenth leg, not realizing he only needed to provide the Wolastoqey language title.
  • Sweet Tooth: Courtney, who was eating the candy during the Package Detour in the fifth leg.
  • This is a Race: Struggling in second-to-last place, they reluctantly u-turned Zainab and Monica to stay in the race.
  • Trying Not to Cry: Courtney, frequently when she is frustrated.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Courtney is afraid of heights, but that didn't stop her from ascending the loggersports pole with surprising speed. Leeches and actual snakes during the Ular snake washing detour for Courtney in the fourth leg.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Courtney, during the pie eating task.

Taylor Callens & Courtney Callens

Siblings. Hero status: RCMP officers.

The duo performed consistently well throughout the race (finishing within the top 3 throughout the entire race, save fifth place on two early legs, far from the bottom in both cases) with no drama to speak of. While they started strong in the the final leg and appeared to be poised to win, Courtney Berglind and Adam's decision to approach the final task with more organization meant that the siblings weren't able to overcome their mistakes overlooking the souvenirs in Banff and came in second.

  • Chekhov's Hobby:
    • Darts for Taylor, which comes in handy during the Roadblock in leg 7.
    • Playing video games seemed to be reason why Taylor thought he excelled at the helicopter simulator in the tenth leg.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Since controlled driving is part of RCMP training, Courtney completed the corvette driving challenge with ease. Taylor's driving skills also pay off during the parking task in the sixth leg.
  • Honor Before Reason: Since the Seo siblings helped them find the last mouse sculpture for a Roadblock, Taylor paid back their kindness by helping Phil solve the last word jumble during the next Roadblock of the leg.

Dylan Elias & Kwame Osei

Friends. Hero status: football coaches.

A considerable physical threat and self-admittedly a not-so-intellectual threat. Though they tended to be in the middle of the pack, they maintained cool-headed and cooperative through the entire race, even when it seemed likely they might be eliminated.

  • Chekhov's Skill: Dylan is a football receiver, which involves a lot of dodging. He reasons it should be helpful during the paintball roadblock in the 8th leg.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Dylan used to do martial arts when he was younger and the skill of memorizing movements helped him master the Dance of 1000 Hands roadblock with less trouble than most of the other teams.
  • The Determinator: While their elimination seemed imminent in the 8th leg, their decision to keep remain level-headed and keep pushing through tasks wound up paying off when Mar and Leanne were unable to complete the paintball challenge and forced to take a penalty, resulting in the cheerleaders' elimination.
  • Dumb Jock / Dumb Muscle: Their motivation to obtain an Express Pass is because they know their weakness will probably be cognitive challenges. During the fifth leg, they ended up struggling with the emoji rebus puzzle and ended up finding the mat by accident because by-standers told them that people had being going into city hall. Kwame ran into similar trouble in the 8th leg, where he struggled to unscramble the words during the food service task.
  • Last of Their Kind: Kwame points out that they are the last all-male team left in the race when they arrive at the sign-up board first in the fourth leg. He superstitiously points out that the other all-male teams who were eliminated also arrived and signed up for the first spot, only to be eliminated in the same leg, making him very reluctant for the team to sign up for the first spot.
  • No Sense of Direction: They've been seen getting lost quite a number of times during the race.
  • Strategy Versus Tactics: They spent too long trying to get an Express Pass during the second leg, which dropped their lead.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Kwame, during the pie eating task.

Martina Seo & Phil Seo

Siblings. Hero status: volunteers.

While not a physical threat during the race, the siblings maintained consistently positive, enthusiastic (especially Martina), and supportive attitudes throughout the race, even when faced with difficult challenges or unexpected setbacks, making them one of the most likeable teams in the season. Though they were initially usually at the back of the pack in the early legs, they managed to place third and then second place twice in the later legs of the race. While they got an early lead in the penultimate leg, they were set back by their inability to land a helicopter in a military simulator and losing the wheelchair basketball Face Off during sudden death overtime against Courtney and Adam, leaving them with little time to catch up at the last roadblock of the leg. Despite being eliminated, they expressed how surprised they were with how far they managed to get and how much they genuinely enjoyed almost every experience they had.

  • Chekhov's Hobby: Phil used to breakdance when he was younger. Despite being the last team to arrive at the Dance of 1000 Hands roadblock, he completed the task after only two attempts.
  • Chekhov's Skill:
    • Martina is a home-economics teacher and commented in the first episode that she'd be good at baking and sewing tasks. Fourth leg? She smokes the Kebaya sewing detour.
    • Being a teacher also is the reason why they finished the car door construction task without too much trouble, because Martina is used to giving and following instructions.
  • The Determinator: Martina is self-admittedly not the most athletic person and didn't think she'd be able to complete the loggersports roadblock, but she pushed herself to finish climbing the pole with some encouragement from Phil (who even invoked their family).
  • Establishing Character Moment: After the first leg, they realized that Martina is the slowest runner in the race. Instead of being upset or worried, they decided to consolidate their gear into Phil's pack and gave Martina's backpack (along with some food) to a homeless man.
  • Failing a Taxi: At the beginning of leg 7, which allowed Leanne and Mar to by-pass them and board the first plane to Winnipeg.
  • Group Hug: Upon seeing Jon, with Sam and Paul, at the Pit Stop on the sixth leg, Martina couldn't resist hugging everyone in sight at the same time.
  • Honor Before Reason:
    • After being u-turned, they decided not to u-turn anyone when they got the chance because they knew how bad it felt to be u-turned.
    • They decided to honour the pact they made the Callen siblings in the first leg by helping them find the mice sculptures for the Roadblock in the 8th leg. To pay them back in kind, Taylor helped Phil solve the word jumble in the next Roadblock.
  • Honor Is Fair Play: They ran a clean run throughout the race, without resorting to any schemes to undermine the other racers.
  • Motor Mouth: Martina is, according to Phil.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: They struggled with the Latte Art detour and required another demonstration before they realized that they needed to tilt the container to make the milk foam properly.
  • Sibling Team
  • Strategy Versus Tactics: Since Martina isn't a fast runner and Phil was strong enough to carry both their packs, they decided to put all their gear into Phil's backpack and give away Martina's pack.
  • Sweet Tooth: Martina kept eating the candy during the Package detour in leg 5.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot:
    • Both siblings experienced it during the pie eating challenge, though Martina found it hilarious to see Phil vomit in the bucket.
    • Again with just Phil in the tenth leg, when their repeated struggle to land the helicopter simulator caused him to become motion sick.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Actual snakes for Martina.

Nancy Csabay & Mellisa Hollingsworth

Teammates. Hero status: elite athletes.

Unlike the other teams, Olympic bronze medalist skeleton (and former teammate of host Jon Montgomery) Mellisa and barrel racer Nancy were not closely acquainted before the race, having only known each other on a professional basis (Mellisa was working as a sports commentator for events that Nancy participated in). Despite this, they formed a solid relationship during the race, with only one on-air argument that they managed to resolve. During their final leg, they were able to finish most of their tasks ahead of the other teams, their decision to complete the time-consuming "Mercado" detour and then bad traffic leaving the last roadblock resulted in the two teams leaving after them to catch up, leaving Mellisa and Nancy last after losing in a footrace against Adam and Courtney.

  • Always Second Best: After four second place finishes, they managed to come first in the 8th leg.
  • Chekhov's Hobby:
    • Nancy gardens regularly and took charge of the potato planting detour in the 8th leg, though her aggressive attitude wound up upsetting Mellisa.
    • Nancy has cooked pico de gallo before, so the cooking portion of the Mercado detour was simple enough, though most of the challenge seem to be acquiring the ingredients in the market...
  • Down to the Last Play: Their last leg was a footrace to the mat against Courtney and Adam.
  • Failing a Taxi: Contributed to their elimination - despite leaving the last roadblock ahead of the last two teams, they got caught in traffic. Taylor and Courtney got to the mat third, leaving Nancy and Mellisa in a footrace against Adam and Courtney.
  • Failed a Spot Check: On the crab trap task, they overlooked the buoys that had crab traps attached to the bottom, thinking the traps had to be somewhere else.
  • Fatal Family Photo: Their final leg included seeing a message from their family members.
  • Hypocrite: Called Dylan & Kwame leeches for wanting to work with them when both teams were lost in Ontario, yet worked with Adam & Courtney on the museum task on Leg 7.
  • Inspirationally Disadvantaged: Nancy battled cancer four years before the series started.
  • Read the Freaking Clue
    • Mellisa wasted time repeating the same knot at the falconry task before she realized that she was doing the required knot completely wrong.
    • They were one of the four teams that went to the wrong car manufacturing plant in Oshawa in the fifth leg, not noticing they needed to go to the plant in Ingersoll instead.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness: They didn't know what the Blind U-Turn was despite it being a part of the show since Season 14.
  • Strategy Versus Tactics:
    • After being the last team at the pie eating task during the third leg, they were the last team to use their Express Pass to catch up with the other teams.
    • Since they had just finished their Speedbump, they asked for a map with the Eckhart mouse statues locations rather than running around blindly in Charlottetown as most of the other teams were doing.
  • This is a Race: Their reason for choosing to U-turn Martina and Phil in the fourth leg; while the siblings haven't been one of the most threatening teams so far, Nancy reasoned they needed to slow down another team for them to get ahead after finishing second-to-last in the previous leg.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Mellisa lists snakes as one of her greatest fears. They still chose the Ular snake washing detour over the Kebaya sewing option.

Leanne Larsen & Marielle "Mar" Lyon

Teammates. Hero status: mentors.

They were initially brushed off as Cannon Fodder by the fan base but shocked everyone by winning first place. From that point on they remained a fixture in the top of the standings. Like Natalie & Meaghan, their positive attitudes, calm approach to the race, resiliency, and surprising abilities in almost every task led them to be a surprising fan favorite of the season. This along with both being performers in a season heavy in choreography tasks, led many to think they would win the season. Despite leaving the mouse task in first place, the next 3 tasks caused them to fall further and further behind culminating in Leanne having a panic attack at the zombie paintball task and taking a 2-hour penalty. This allowed for the trailing Dylan & Kwame to catch up eliminating the cheerleaders in 6th.

  • Breakout Character: With having one of the most unlikely hero statuses at the start of the season, no one expected them to be as popular or as strong as they were
  • Chekhov's Skill: Both women are cheerleaders and Mar has extensive dancing experience, allowing them to complete the can-can detour in the second leg much faster than the other teams who attempted it. Their experience similarly benefited them during the Vogue dancing detour in the 6th leg and the ballet detour in the 7th leg.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Mar took theatre combat classes in university, which helped her learn the fight choreography for the Stratford theatre task in leg 5.
  • Dumb Jock / Dumb Muscle: While they've excelled at physical challenges, they struggled with the emoji rebus task in the fifth leg, eventually resorting to asking some passer-bys to solve it for them.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Despite having a normal cheerleader physique, they had no problem with the physical tasks. Even the ones relying on brute strength.
  • The Perfectionist: Mar repeatedly practiced the fight choreography over and over because she wasn't satisfied it was perfect compared to other teams that put in just enough practice to memorize the movements correctly.
  • Read the Freaking Clue
    • One of the four teams that went to the wrong car manufacturing plant in Oshawa in the fifth leg, not noticing they needed to go to the plant in Ingersoll instead.
    • In the sixth leg, they didn't understand if the numbers listed on the Dempsters food bank task were the number of items or the number of boxes for the item (i.e. 10 loaves of whole wheat bread or 10 boxes of whole wheat bread). They went with the latter and started packing, realizing later there would not be enough boxes for all the teams and had to ask Nancy and Mellisa for clarification that packing list given listed the number for each item.
  • Strategy Versus Tactics: Like Anna and Todd, they decided to use their Express Pass to forgo the pie eating task in the third leg. Since their elimination occurred during the 7th leg, an Express Pass would not have helped them (since Express Passes usually have a stipulation that it must be used by a certain leg).
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • Leeches for the both of them.
    • Claustrophobia for Leanne which resulted in their elimination

Zainab Ansari & Monica Demian

Co-Workers/Friends. Hero status: navy sailors.

Similar to Joseph and Akash, they frequently found themselves struggling not to be in last place (including against the volunteering duo in their earlier legs). While they survived being last place for two non-elimination legs, their luck ran out the third time and were eliminated.

  • Born Lucky: Survived two non-elimination legs and quickly finished their Speed Bump very quickly, but their third last place finish resulted in their elimination.
  • Call It Karma: In their final leg, they were the only team to be U-turned. Upon their elimination, they thought it was probably karma paying them back for u-turning Anna and Todd.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Turns out their love of food meant they were able to finish their Speed Bump - identifying different flavours of Fleur de Sel by scent alone - very quickly.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Despite tying knots often in the navy, Monica struggled with the falconers' knot because it was unlike any knots she had to tie in the navy.
  • Read the Freaking Clue: One of the four teams that went to the wrong car manufacturing plant in Oshawa in the fifth leg, not noticing they needed to go to the plant in Ingersoll instead.
  • This is a Race: Their reason for choosing to U-turn Anna and Todd in the fourth leg.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone

Todd Kirk & Anna Holtby

Dating couple. Hero status: advocates.

While they had a very strong track record in the first three legs of the race, the tide turned against them during the fourth leg in Indonesia. After hailing a taxi that got them lost, they were one of the last teams to arrive at the first roadblock and were then hit by a blind U-Turn. While they made a good showing, Todd wasn't able to master the Dance of 1000 Hands in time for them to beat Adam and Courtney to the mat.

  • Chekhov's Hobby:
    • Todd plays blackjack online with friends, so he was able to complete the blackjack detour easily.
    • Todd's experience playing racing games also seems to have helped him during the task to drive a Corvette around the track under 80km/hr in less than 3 mins in the third leg.
    • Anna took regular sewing lessons while being homeschooled, which helped them finish the Kebaya sewing detour.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Todd does not like blueberries and he does not like pie. Being forced to eat an entire blueberry pie? It was enough of a deal-breaker that they thought it was worthwhile to use their Express Pass.
  • Down to the Last Play: Their last leg was a footrace to the mat against Adam and Courtney.
  • Inspirationally Disadvantaged: Todd survived cancer as a child, though it resulted in some noticeable facial disfigurement. It's what inspired him be an advocate and encourage kids not to be afraid to be different.
  • Strategy Versus Tactics: When they realized they couldn't finish the pie eating task in the third leg, they used their Express Pass. All three Express Passes were used during the same leg. This came back to haunt them in leg four as they got U-Turned but couldn't bypass it.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Monica and Zainab chose to U-Turn them specifically because Anna and Todd had demonstrated early on that they were a strong team.

Joseph Truong & Akash Sidhu

Friends. Hero status: volunteers.

After finishing two legs in the penultimate position, their luck appeared to change during the third leg when they snagged the lead during the first half of the race. But a combination of Rubberband AI and tasks they just couldn't finish right away diminished their lead, resulting in their elimination.

  • Failed a Spot Check:
    • A nearly fatal one for both in the first leg as they nearly overran the entrance to the Pit Stop. They were able to recover quickly and beat Chewy and Happy to the Pit Stop.
    • Another one in the second leg, when they discovered they had forgotten the tent to assemble the campsite and had to return to the parking lot to retrieve it. They also took some time to figure out the tent is inflatable and did not require poles to assemble. It set them back for the rest of the leg.
  • Rubberband AI: After finishing second-to-last for all their legs, they initially got a break during the third leg when they caught up with everyone at the airport from Dawson City to Vancouver and scored the first seaplane to Saltspring Island. Their chance at maintaining their lead diminished, especially after they couldn't board the ferry to Vancouver Island, allowing the other teams to catch up at the terminal.

Mark "Happy" LaVerdiere & Corey "Chewy" Liddle

Best friends. Hero status: retired air force pilots.

Despite their promising start, they quickly lost their lead at the first roadblock when Chewy was unable to grab the beaver plush after leaping off a net suspended over a deep valley. The duo wound up at the back of the pack as nearly all the other teams managed to get grab the beaver on their first try. While the bottleneck at the crab trap task gave them a chance to avoid elimination, they got lost on the way to the Pit Stop and were beaten to the mat in a footrace against Akash and Joseph.

  • Down to the Last Play: They just barely lost in a footrace to Akash and Joseph.
  • Fatal Family Photo: They were the only ones to get any focus on their families in the first episode, consequently, they were the first to be eliminated.
  • In-Series Nickname
  • Hope Spot: Joseph and Akash went past the entrance to the mill, but made it back in time to beat Happy and Chewy in a footrace to the mat.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname
    • Badass Nickname: Chewy got his nickname because, among other things, he can pull off a pretty good impression of Chewbacca.
    • Shout-Out: Their names are a reference to Chewbacca and Happy Gilmore (the golfer played by Adam Sandler). Lampshaded by one of the teams mentioning how similar Happy looks to Adam Sandler.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The only characterization that they received was their Fatal Family Photo moment.
