This season teams celebrate the Rio Olympics by racing in Summer Olympic locations, and the finale will be held in Rio. Also, there's a massive sponsor change between the 2 season, thus self-driving within the teams are massively reduced.
Considered to be a huge improvement due to most of the teams being in competitive ground, the race course mostly set to be 1 country for 1 leg (the USA being the only exception, & even then the legs are in two different time zones), and difficulty of the challenges are considered to be Olympic tier.
Guo Jingjing & Huo Qigang
Gold medalist female diver and her husband. A stronger team that what raw numbers imply, since they are able to gain a lead against other teams, but would usually encounter setbacks on bad Detour choices. Winners of this season where they are able to gain a huge lead in Brazil which they are able to retain.Liu Chang & Jin Dachuan
Models, and notable for being the first returning team that competes with newcomers. Their experience in the race helped them immensely in being the front runners, achieving 7 Top 2 finishes & 2 leg wins, although they are in danger of being eliminated in the other 3. Ended up in 2nd after a close battle with Guo Jingjing & Huo Qigang in the Final Memory Challenge.Liu Xiang & Xu Qifeng
Gold medalist hurdler and best friend after Liu Xiang's original partner (Ji Longxiang) can't continue. In the last leg, Liu Xiang struggles with the Wakeboard Roadblock ended up having them to take the penalty, which leaves them behind at 3rd in the finish line in front of Liu Xiang's fiance.- Non-Gameplay Elimination: Liu Xiang's original partner and cousin Ji Longxiang was determined not to be medically fit after the 2nd, and evantually Xi Qifeng ended up replacing him for the rest of the leg.
Wu Jianhao & Yao Fengfeng
International Taiwanese superstar and his sister. In their last leg in Mexico, despite massively leading the leg, a combination of struggling in the Mesoamerican puzzle & getting a 30 minute penalty for separating at the Mariachi task enable the other teams to catch up with them, ending their journey in 4th.- Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Got a 15 minute penalty in Tokyo as they did a Loophole Abuse for getting their answers in their 2nd try from SNH Idols without riding the roller coaster.
- Chekhov's Skill: Jianhao's model building skills, which enable them to finish the Catapult Detour faster than they expected.
Zhang Zhehan & Zhang Sifan
Actors. Eliminated in Los Angeles for being beaten by Guo Jingjing & Huo Qigang at the basketball Detour.Jin Xing & Heinz
Transgender dancer and her husband. Eliminated in Rome for being beaten by Jin Dachuan & Liu Chang in footrace.- Brains and Brawn: Jin Xing is the Brawn & Heinz is the Brain.
Huang Tingting & Sun Rui
SNH 48 idols. Eliminated in Barcelona after accumulating the most amount of penalties for intentionally not completing the Roadblock & not wearing the cap first before starting the challenge.- Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Got a rather harsh 30 minute penalty for crossing the road when the traffic light is red, and got themselves in near elimination for that.
- Read the Freaking Manual: Twice in their last leg, the second one got them eliminated.
- On the paella challenge they didn't fully read that they have to fully add the rice.
- At the Detour they didn't wear the cap first before starting the challenge, giving them an additional 30 minute penalty that enable the other penalized teams to finish their penalties before them.
