    The Sage/Akira
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sage_female_3.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sage_male.png

The Player Character (default name Akira) of MahoYaku and the new Master Sage. They were suddenly summoned from their home world into the world of wizards, and their task is to lead the chosen wizards to fight against the Great Calamity. The Sage's gender is chosen by the player in the game, but in the canon of the stage musicals, he is portrayed as male.

  • Adaptational Personality Change: The Akira of the stage musicals is very similar to the one in the game, but thanks to the lack of narration, he becomes a much more active player in the story to justify his being there. He displays more curiosity and asks questions about the world, and reacts more strongly with realistic amounts of fear and shock to the fantastical situations he finds himself in. He also has no filter at times, especially with regards to the looks of his new companions; The musicals choose to translate his loving and borderline-erotic descriptions of their appearances in the game narration as him accidentally blurting out how beautiful, cool, or sexy he finds them, and immediately getting embarrassed and apologizing. He also displays self-esteem issues at times that the game version does not, and at one point has a breakdown because he believes he's failed to summon the other wizards and has put his new friends at risk of death as a result.
  • Adaptational Badass: As noted above, the Akira in the musicals takes a more active role in the story, including action scenes. The musical Akira helps spearhead peace negotiations between Drummond and the wizards, and helps to talk Faust down from killing human soldiers and making relations between human and wizards worse. The best example of this trope however, comes when Bradley decides to start shooting people after the attack on the manor. In the game, Akira is wearing a feather boa made of feathers, and one of the feathers happens to come off the boa while Akira is watching the scene unfold in silence, which then floats coincidentally into Bradley's face and makes him sneeze. Conversely, in the musicals, Bradley is stopped from shooting anyone because Akira jumps on him and wrestles with him for the gun, risking his own life in the process and only being saved because the wrestling results in the boa being shoved in Bradley's face.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: In the musicals at least. Akira is only in his very early twenties, but it's made clear that his parents aren't in his life, and he considers his neighbour's cats the closest thing he has to family. Whether they're dead or Akira fell out with them for some reason is left up to the viewers.
  • Chaste Hero: Despite finding many of the characters attractive and almost allowing themselves to be seduced by Figaro at one point, they stay single throughout the story in order to focus on their role as the sage.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Their eyes and hair are of the same color.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: The opening of both continuities literally has them feeding their neighbour's cats, and it's made clear this is a regular thing. Emphasized a lot in the musicals, where Akira considers his neighbour's cats to be the closest thing he has to family back in Tokyo.
  • Morality Pet: As the Sage, they often have to keep some of the more violent wizards (particularly the northern wizards) from getting into trouble, as well as convincing them to help humans, not kill them.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: The story will progress normally regardless of whether you play as a male/female Sage.
  • Straight Gay: The male protagonist lacks any signs of camp and finds himself tempted and flustered by the beautiful men that he suddenly finds himself surrounded by just as much as the female protagonist does.
  • Vague Age: They're drawn in a way where you could interpret them as being anywhere from their mid teens to their mid twenties. Averted in the stage musicals for the male protagonist, where he's in his early twenties.

Tropes Applying to All Characters

Central Country

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2d8759f9_befc_441a_9e21_9ef86a35e11e.png

The Central Country is a flourishing trade country that lies within the center of the continent. This country contains laws and regulations. Wizards that come from this country are often patient and highly motivated.

  • Morality Pet: Arthur, Cain, and Riquet act as this to Oz. Oz has a soft spot for Arthur in particular due to raising him as a child, while Riquet is one of the few people who can scold Oz without risking death.

    Oz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/564e430a_b9ed_41ae_b49e_ec22038aa8df.png
"There is no meaning to be in a crowd. Only survivors will survive.”

Voiced by: Takashi Kondo

Magic Tool: Wand
Skill: Destruction magic

Known as the strongest wizard who is feared by many people, it‘s said that Oz is a cruel and heartless man. He dislikes it when others interfere with his work and rarely appears in public because of that.

  • Adoptive Peer Parent: You won’t know it at first glance, but he was Arthur’s foster father, as he took the prince in on a whim when he found him in the unforgiving coldness of the Northern Country before people from the Central Country came to bring Arthur back home years later. Now, even when Arthur is 17, Oz barely looks older than him.
  • The Archmage: He’s declared as the strongest wizard, and lives true to his title.
  • Badass Long Coat: Oz wears a long coat in quite a similar fashion to a royal military uniform.
  • Children Raise You: After taking Arthur in, Oz changed a lot as a person, and his love for Arthur brings out his sincere, honest side.
  • Classy Cravat: A red one that comes with a golden gemstone. It shows his high status as the strongest wizard.
  • The Dreaded: People have every right to feel off around Oz since he is the most powerful wizard in the world.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Has knee-long hair which he ties into a high-ponytail.
  • One-Man Army: As the strongest wizard in the game, he is a deadly force to be reckoned with.
  • Really 700 Years Old: His profile claims that he’s over 2000.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Didn’t those scarlet eyes warn you about something? He can turn you into ash in one finger snap.
  • Weather Manipulation: He can manipulate weather. In the past, as he was depressed with Arthur’s departure after their 9 years living together, Oz created fierce blizzards that lasted for years.
  • Wild Child: When he was still a child, he used to act like a wild beast, eating mana stones when hungry and not speaking to nor able to understand others.

    Arthur

Arthur Grandwell

“Master, let’s save the world from The Great Calamity together.”

Voiced by: Atsushi Tamaru

Magic Tool: Book
Skill: Memorization

The crown prince of the Central Country. Having a gentle personality, he wants to live in a peaceful world where humans and wizards can live together.

  • Badass Cape: Adorned on his left side is a decorated blue cape lined with white fur that covers up until his left wrist, showing his status as the prince.
  • Endearingly Dorky: According to the previous sage, Arthur is cute, worries a lot, and like a doting little brother.
  • Happily Adopted: He regards his childhood with his foster father Oz with utter fondness, seeing Oz as his kind mentor and guardian. Despite Arthur's much more luxurious life in the castle, he still finds himself missing his days spent with Oz.
  • Mystical White Hair: He is silver haired and is one of the wizards.
  • Nice Guy: Arthur is specifically stated to be very kind, gentle and selfless.
  • Parental Abandonment: During his early childhood, his mother left him in the cold and harsh snow of the North due to her shame in giving birth to a wizard. It’s only thanks to Oz that he survived.
  • Prince Charming: A kind, gallant prince who sees everyone as equals, and himself is seen as both a leader and hero to the people of the Central Kingdom.
  • The Reliable One: Many of the wizards and citizens of the Central Kingdom describe Arthur as a person you can trust.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Despite being the prince of the country and can actually pass the duty to others, he goes on joining the Sage to save the world of The Great Calamity himself.

    Cain

Cain Knightley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e3d19865_f99b_4309_8a88_c6ef63a43425.png
“Don’t worry, Master. I will protect you.”

Voiced by: Daichi Kanbara

Magic Tool: Sword
Skill: Sword Technique

The former general and commanding officer of the knights in Central Kingdom. Having a "big brother" type of personality, Cain is known to be caring and friendly towards others. He is naturally strong with or without using magic.

  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Admits shamelessly that he tends to dance naked when he's had too much alcohol.
  • Brutal Honesty: Cain is honest to the point of bluntness and has no trouble speaking his mind.
  • Cool Big Bro: His personality. He always takes care of others if possible and will do his best to protect the younger ones.
  • Crazy-Prepared: In a 4koma comic, Cain always has things prepared in his pockets, from medicine, Sugar, to armor fixing tools.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: He has almost no experience as a wizard, though he admitted he briefly received magic lessons from Oz before he joined the Sage's wizards. He makes up for his shortcomings with magic with his well-honed skills as a knight.
  • Eye Scream: Although Owen used magic to gouge his eye out, he still remembers feeling incredible pain.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: On the surface, Cain is the very definition of what one would expect a knight from a fairy tale to be like. He's valiant and courageous, fearless in the face of danger and always makes protecting others his priority. Subverted in that while he’s truly chivalrous, this noble side of him is actually just his learned behavior and his own conscious efforts to present himself as knightly as possible, acting as he thinks a knight should, and he can never keep it up for long.
  • Lethal Chef: His only method of cooking is to deep-fry them... Yes, even dessert.
  • Master Swordsman: Incredibly masterful with a sword, and his unparalleled skills in physical fighting abilities earned him the rank of Commanding Officer of the Knights.
  • Nice Guy: He’s brotherly, caring, friendly and can befriend almost anyone.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Shares the name with the Biblical Bad Guy, Cain, yet he is no bad guy at all.
  • Shared Unusual Trait: The eye he shows is gold, and the covered one is red - the same heterochromia as Owen’s. The reason for this is because Owen stole Cain's eye for use in a ritual, and Cain plans to steal it back someday.
  • Undying Loyalty: As a knight of Granvelle, Cain deeply cares about Prince Arthur and his ideals, assuring him that he will work together with him to create a world in which wizards and humans can get along.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Literally. He's afraid of snakes - a fact that Owen seems to gleefully take advantage of.

    Riquet

Riquet Ortiz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/df315503_dfc9_402b_8f38_0706ee3f3bbb.png
“It is the duty of us, wizards, to lead people with no powers to the light.”

Voiced by: Yuusuke Nagano

Magic Tool: Lantern
Skill: Leadership

Riquet was raised as an apostle of God in a certain cult, so he is pretty naive with some places. He has a serious and honest personality and he believes that magical powers should be used to help other people.

  • Black-and-White Morality: He has strong beliefs that he strictly adheres to, seeing things as either completely bad or good.
  • Brutal Honesty: Since becoming a Sage's wizard, he ends up voicing whatever is on his mind, completely honest and meaning whatever he says. Despite his harsh words, his intentions are always pure.
  • Cheerful Child: He’s pretty clueless about the dark side of the world, and always remains cheerful and optimistic regardless of situations.
  • Facial Markings: His Wizard Mark is on his forehead.
  • Good Shepherd: The Messenger of the Lord in a Church who wishes to use his power for good.

Northern Country

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0b1b7e42_229a_48af_a2b8_26942e32be92.png

The Northern Country is an extremely cold land surrounded by harsh weather, making it difficult for humans to live in. The wizards of this country bare great power and many live in solitary.

“Snow and White. We are one.”

Adult Form

The twin brother of White. He is known to usually take on the appearance of a child, but he can also change his appearance to resemble that of an adult. Thoughtful and majestic, but sometimes mischievous.

    White

Voiced by: Takuma Terashima

Magic Tool: Father Doll
Skill: Fortune-telling

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a9736b2c_99aa_42dc_9371_92e997f1efe0.png
“White and Snow. We are one.”

Adult Form

The twin brother of Snow. He always watches over the other wizards with Snow. The twins are very close friends, but White has a big secret.

  • Always Identical Twins: The only difference between him and Snow may lie in their hairstyles and Wizard Mark’s placement.
  • Dead All Along: Our White is now just a ghost. And the one who killed him is Snow.
  • Hates Being Alone: One of the differences between him and Snow is that he dislikes being left behind. In the distant past, when Snow wants to go on an adventure by himself for a while, White - who had foreseen the future - tried to stop him since he knew Snow would die during that. Snow remained unfazed as he wanted to be alone, but White was terrified at the aspect of that, and so between them broke a fight, in which Snow accidentally killed White.
  • Older Than They Look: He may look like a child, but is rumored to be alive for thousands of years. Yes, he and Snow are Oz’s and Figaro’s, the resident old man, mentors.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Helps indicate the great amount of power the twins have as the oldest wizards.
  • The Trickster: White occasionally proves himself to be more a playful person than his brother through his attempt to gift Owen spicy food for his birthday, and give grape juice to Shylock to change the pace of his usual gifts wine.

    Mithra

Voiced by: Hiroki Takahashi

Magic Tool: Crystal skull
Skill: Manipulation of corpses

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1f51262d_7cac_4dc4_b2ec_4f23dc40d0fa.png
“Oh... I hate troubles. I’ll kill them all so everything will be over.”

A beautiful youth with a lot of sex appeal. At first glance, he seems like a gentleman with a soft tone, but his personality is quite twisted. Has a tremendous amount of power and wants to beat Oz in order to become the strongest wizard one day.

  • Evil Redhead: He’s not outright evil, but does be quite power-hungry and make disturbing conversations because of his interest in rituals and death.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Can and will eat anything with little preference. In fact, he is the only wizard you can serve burnt food to and still obtain a good result!
  • Exhausted Eyebags: Has some under his eyes. Having perpetual insomnia as the result of the Injury from the previous Great Calamity is a major factor.
  • The Insomniac: His Injury from the Great Calamity is being unable to fall asleep, which impacts his behavior as well.
  • Necromancer: His skill is to manipulate corpses.
  • The Promise: He promised to Tiletta - Rutile and Mitile's mother - that he would protect her sons from harm with the cost of his own magic. Because of this, he often tries to stop/restrict them from doing anything remotely dangerous or tags along on missions involving the two, though he claims his main motivation is less about caring for Mitile and Rutile and more about retaining his powerful magic via the crystal skull Tiletta gave him.
  • Scary Stitches: A noticeable feature about him is the stitches covering his body, seen clearly from his cards and sprites.
  • Teleportation: Thanks to his past as a boatman, Mithra is very knowledgeable in direction, prompting him to be skilled in teleportation magic as well. He teleports just by opening any gate and stepping in it.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The crystal skull, his Magic Tool, actually belonged to his mentor Tiletta who died in childbirth long ago. She made him promise with her to protect her children and in exchange, she would give him the skull containing powerful magic he had always wanted.

    Owen

Voiced by: Shintarō Asanuma

Magic Tool: Trunk
Skill: Talks to animals

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e948cc76_8ee2_4329_b380_cb4ec70ed3d4.png
“So, you want to know more about me? Alright, let me know when you’ve learnt more about me, Master.”

A mysterious and eerie guy who uses his polite way of speaking to utter terrible words that bring people to despair; he takes joy in the suffering of others. He has a well-known reputation as one of the most dangerous and cruel Northern wizards. He and Cain from the Central Country have an especially brutal relationship.

  • Animal Lover: Despite his overall attitude and denial, he does have a soft spot for animals as he talks to them, pets them, and even sings for them.
  • Anti-Hero: If he were not on the Sage’s side, he would make a very convincing villain, from his sadistic tendency to his antagonistic relationship with Cain. He takes advantage of this and portrays himself as a despicable Northern Wizard.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When he was young he was feared for being a wizard, and as a result was trapped by those who feared him inside a basement for centuries with nothing but a picture book of fairy tales with knights, which is the reason he has an obsession with knights in the present day, although he denies it.
  • Dismissing a Compliment: Owen is uncomfortable with compliments as he rarely gets them, so he responds curtly to them on instinct and assumes he's being made fun of.
  • The Dreaded: Humans and wizards alike fear him just by hearing his name, so he takes advantage of his despicable reputation to find targets for his cruelty.
  • Eye Scream: At one point, when he was taken over by his childish personality, Owen offered to give Cain's eye back. Cain was on board until Owen tried to force it out of his own skull with his fingers, inevitably injuring himself.
  • Food as Bribe: A good way to get him to do things he would otherwise scoff at is to bribe him with sweets. At one point, Bradley bribes him with cake to get him to help fight Nova.
  • Immortality Hurts: During his time trapped in a basement by wizards in his youth, he repeated a cycle of starvation and revival for years on end because his soul was hidden away from his body and he couldn’t die.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Since he has "hidden" his soul away, Owen can return from death anytime he is killed.
  • Sadist: He enjoys watching people fall into despair and contort their faces with fear, and will willingly go to places recently hit by disaster to experience this. If there's no such situation readily available, he will create them himself or target individuals, instilling fear in them with his words to feed off their negative energy, which is later revealed actually helps replenish his mana - an unusual thing for a wizard, who tend to get their powers from nature and positive emotions.
  • Shared Unusual Trait: Has red and gold heterochromia just like Cain. The gold eye actually belonged to Cain before stolen by Owen for use in a ritual.
  • Sweet Tooth: If there's any way to win Owen over, it's usually through sweets.
    • He goes into a gruesome in-depth description of a simple strawberry shortcake in-game, which portrays his bad habit of comparing sweets to gory imagery instead of calling them by name.
    • During his affection story, he requests to eat a whole bowl of whipped cream and nothing else.
  • Split Personality: His bizarre injury from the Great Calamity turns his personality into that of an innocent child who wants to be praised, and this state can manifest at any given time without warning. It’s heavily implied this is Owen as a child, back when he was locked in the basement.
  • Taking the Heat: Because of his constant dishonesty, it took awhile for the other wizards to realize that not all the terrible situations Owen takes credit for are actually caused by him; he's simply used to being hated, and if he's accused of something evil, his first instinct is to lie and say he's the one responsible.
  • Trauma Button: When he’s in his childish personality, he will scratch the doors and walls of any room he's placed in, possibly fearing he's been locked for good again.
  • When He Smiles: Usually his smiles are spiteful if anything, but when he shows Akira a smile free of his usual malice in his affection story, Akira is understandably captivated by it.

A country that has over 100 volumes (of books) of laws that keeps the harmony and respect of the country flowing. Repulsion against heresy is likely to occur. Many wizards of this country don't like the citizens.

“I don’t want to save the world anymore. I’m tired of being betrayed.”

A serious yet gloomy man who curses often. He has a strong hatred towards humans and is reluctant to play the role of the Sage Wizard. Nonetheless, he can be an amazing leader from time-to-time.

  • The Cynic: Has a very dark and cynical outlook on life, and strongly believes nothing good will happen if you make connections with people. This is a result of being betrayed by his former friend Alex, the first King of Central Country.
  • Hikikomori: He even called himself one during Cain’s birthday quote.
  • Jade-Colored Glasses: Before Alex betrayed and imprisoned him, he wasn’t as gloomy as he is now.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: His love for cats brings out his softer side, which is usually buried behind an emotional wall he built himself.
  • The Stoic: Faust is serious and cold, keeping to himself as much as possible. When he does speak, which isn't often, the words that come out of his mouth are either frank or self-deprecating.
  • Stoic Spectacles: He wears round tinted glasses, which signifies his broody, unsociable personality and may also serve as a Visual Pun to how he has Jade-Colored Glasses.

    Heathcliff

  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He has blond hair and is an incredibly kindhearted and caring person.

A strong spirited wizard who is not frightened easily by things. Although he’s still young, his magical powers are immensely strong. He’s a bit worried about his short height.

  • Childhood Friend: With Heathcliff, whose family has taken him in.

“Well, I don’t feel like doing this...but, it’s okay. I’ll do it, Master.”

Best known as the Eastern Country‘s best cook. He avoided the hassle and lived a solitary life, concealing himself from being a wizard. However, he is good at taking care of people and he has an anxious side. He’s a hardworking character.

  • Berserk Button: Those who waste food or sneak food shall receive his wrath...or pepper, in Bradley’s case.
  • Chef of Iron: The best cook of the Eastern Country, also a powerful wizard and the former Number Two of a bandit boss from the infamously brutal North.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He is hard on himself in general, claiming that he can't be trusted and that he's indecisive.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: The reason why he left Bradley’s bandit crew: Nero's desire for a carefree and easy life didn't match up with Bradley's life filled with thrill. He then hides his past and identity as a wizard to work as a chef in the City of Rain in the Eastern country, pursuing the relaxed days he has always wanted.
  • Number Two: He was Bradley's right hand man in the bandit crew.
  • Open Secret: His poor attempts at hiding his past don’t pass over most wizards’ head, though they decide to play along.
  • Red Baron: "Chef of Blood", back to the time where he was still Bradley’s Number Two.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: He is apathetic and indifferent towards others, and tends to get closed off when it comes to his personal life. However, he’s still quite friendly and pleasant.
  • Supreme Chef: Well, he isn’t called the best cook of Eastern Country for nothing. Even Bradley is head over heel for his meal.
  • Team Mom: Of the Eastern Kingdom in particular and the ever-chaotic Wizard Dorm in general, along with Cain. His calmness helps him deal with others’ calamity, he is good at taking care of people and the one responsible for every meals.

Western Country

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5b100219_95d0_4fb8_8b87_92292186e787.png

    Shylock

Shylock Bennet

Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana

Magic Tool: Kiseru
Skill: Brewing

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0e233b9b_9d96_43fa_8d3e_abff7e5383b9.png
“After all, if it is an inevitable destiny, how about a toast?”

The operator of a bar specialized for wizards in the Western Country. A person who seeks aesthetics and goes at his own pace. He is friends with a wizard from the same country, Murr, but his relationship with Murr resembles more that of a cat and its owner.

  • The Alcoholic: Everyone gives him alcohol as his birthday gift, as when asked what he would like, he always answered "wine".
  • The Bartender: For his own bar.
  • Blue Blood: He used to be a noble in Western Country during the time where there were less people and nature was cleaner. Before he opened the bar, he had been watching over the Bennett family until it was beaten in the fight for power between nobility and lost almost all the lands.
  • Camp Bisexual: He flirts with both the male and female versions of the main character, and his dialogue with the main male cast also gets pretty flirty at times. He is also canonically in love with the male Murr.
  • Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest: He's quite the flirt and is implied to be promiscuous in his daily life, attempting to seduce several characters throughout the main story and side stories, most notably Akira. In contrast, he rarely flirts with Murr, who is the only one that he's actually in love with. When he does show affection to him, it's in more understated and chaste ways.
  • Hotter and Sexier: In the stage musical continuity, the scene in which he shows Akira his Wizard Crest is expanded from a flirtatious unbuttoning of his shirt while in full view of the other characters, to getting Akira alone, unbuttoning his shirt, pushing Akira down on his bed, and running his hand down to Akira's crotch in an attempt to seduce him.
  • Inconvenient Attraction: Murr was an unpleasant person who argued with Shylock constantly and whose inventions destroyed his home town and caused mass environmental destruction elsewhere. As one of the shards of Murr's soul points out, Shylock hated him, but fell in love with him even as he despised him.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Has long, brown hair fixed into a bun.
  • Love Martyr: Has been in love with Murr for centuries and endeavours to keep him safe from any who might harm him over his role in the calamity, despite Murr's lack of reciprocation in his original state, and his inability to love anyone more than the moon in his current state. He's also on a mission to repair Murr's soul, despite getting nothing in return. This takes a darker turn later on when one of Murr's soul shards, which possesses his original personality, reveals that Shylock has actually come to like having the soul-shattered Murr dependant on him and would rather he stay as such. Shylock denies this, but then later when he finds a different shard, he eats it himself rather than return it, ensuring Murr will never be fully whole.
  • Smoking Is Glamorous: Using a kiseru (a Japanese smoking pipe), which is usually associated with elegance and glamour, naturally gives him the vibe as well.
  • Supreme Chef: Though not to Nero’s level, Shylock is often regarded by many people as a good cook.
  • The Tease: He is probably one of the most outwardly flirtatious and sensual characters in the game, speaking in a low breathy voice with dialogue laced with innuendos. One of his SSR cards has him bent over the viewer, pulling his shirt open to reveal his chest as he gives them bedroom eyes.
  • Waistcoat of Style: A red checkered one.

“Let’s have fun together!”

Long ago, he was known as the genius and aced his studies. But his soul was shattered to pieces when an accident occurred. His personality is like that of a mischievous cat. He has a special feeling or connection towards the Great Calamity.

  • Animal Motifs: Cat. He has a cat smile on his face, pets a cat, and his name comes from a cat character.
  • Broken Ace: Used to be known as a genius who aced all of his studies in Astronomy, Archaeology, Science and Gemology; and would have discovered the truth about the Great Calamity if he hadn’t encountered one accident that shattered his soul into pieces.
  • Cargo Ship: A canon example. He's romantically in love with the moon.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: After getting his soul shattered, Murr took on a mischievous, Constantly Curious personality, often doing what he wants, when he wants, as long as he is having fun and his curiosity is satiated.
  • Ring of Power: His magic tool.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Inverted. Before his soul was shattered, he was a massive Jerkass who thought little about the consequences of his ethically dubious actions in the name of research and innovation. After his soul was shattered, he became a sweet and fun-loving person, albeit someone who still occasionally annoys people with his quirks.

“How about some new clothes, Master? I can make them for you!”

A bright and sociable wizard. Although he seems like a bubbly guy, he gets depressed easily and sometimes loses his confidence. He aims to be a tailor and is traveling with his magic teacher, Rustica.

  • Abusive Parents: His parents and sisters locked him in a room for years and exploited him as child labor for their tailoring business.
  • A Match Made in Stockholm: Chloe was so miserable living with his abusive family that he was actually happy to be kidnapped by Rustica, unlike most of his other victims, and decided to follow him rather than return home when Rustica freed him. He viewed his kidnapping as being rescued, and this plus Rustica continuing to treat him with genuine kindness caused him to develop feelings for him. He confessed to Rustica at one point while still in his teens, and was gently rejected, but Rustica still has great platonic affection for him.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: As Rustica's traveling companion, he often has to watch over him and clean up after his bride-chasing antics.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Chloe is actually a female name.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite how happy-go-lucky he may seem, he gets rather lonely and is sensitive to how others see him. Due to how hard he is on himself and how quickly he gets dejected, Chloe has to struggle with self-esteem issues; demonstrated from his embarrassed reactions towards compliments.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Believes himself to be less attractive than he really is because one of the ways his family abused him while growing up was by mocking his appearance.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In the 2nd Anniversary story, Chloe reveals to Akira that he loves Rustica, but knows it has no chance of being requited at the present time. He resolves to search for Rustica's bride and learn about his past before his amnesia so that Rustica can either reunite with his bride, or get closure and move on.
  • Precocious Crush: Admits to having had one on Rustica when he was in his early teens in the 2nd Anniversary story. Now that he's an adult, it's still going strong, but he acknowledges that it will always be one-sided as long as Rustica thinks that his bride is out there somewhere.
  • Rescue Romance: One-sidedly fell for Rustica when Rustica kidnapped/rescued him and continues to hold feelings for him years later.

“Hi, I finally found you, my bride. Come, let’s enter into this birdcage.”

An elegant but leisurely gentleman. He travels around the world with his disciple, Chloe, looking for his lost bride. He does not know how to care for himself, so Chloe often takes care of him instead.

  • Abduction Is Love: Any time he mistakes someone for his bride, he will turn them into a bird, lock them up in a bird cage, and try to spirit them away from wherever he found them.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Rustica can't remember anything before a certain point in his life, save for that he had a bride whom he loved very much. He has no idea what caused the amnesia, and has a single-minded focus on finding his bride despite not knowing anything about her or what she looks like, if she's even still alive, or if she's even really a "she".
  • Animal Motifs: Birds, and swallows more specifically. 'Rustica' refers to the scientific name for swallows, he has a lovely singing voice, he carries a birdcage with him wherever he goes, and he turns people into birds when under the impression that they're his bride. He also resembles a swallow in a way; his hair is the same shade of brown you might see on a swallow, and his white fur collar is a reference to the white markings that go around the necks of certain species.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He’s weirdly obsessed with idea of finding his 'bride' from people to even animals, and tries to lock them in his birdcage. As he painfully lacks common sense despite his age, Chloe has to take care of him all the time.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: A beautiful, elegant gentleman who is skilled at musical-related stuff.
  • Extreme Omnisexual: In a way. He will mistake anyone and anything for his bride, be they women, men, children, or animals. He never displays any sexual intent towards his kidnapping victims though, and he categorically rejected Chloe's love confession while he was still underaged.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Lovely blue eyes to signify his innocent and gullible personality, as well as indicate that underneath his eccentricities he is actually a very kind and pleasant person.
  • Super Gullible: He is very trusting of others and can be rather dense and naive, so it is easy for others to take advantage of him.

Southern Country

A country where there are a lot of wildernesses and rocky mountains. Citizens and weaker wizards work together to tend to the land. Many wizards from this country are gentle and they love helping citizens out.

“I’m a great wizard, you know. Well, even I don’t believe someone who says things like that.”

The Southern country doctor. He is a very knowledgeable and gentle person, who is brilliant in many ways with an approachable atmosphere. Good at socializing and is aquatinted with lots of wizards, regardless of their country.

  • The Alcoholic: He drinks all the time.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: As good a doctor as eccentric he truly is.
  • Dissonant Serenity: In the "Infectious Swamp" story, he mentioned how he secretly eradicated the poisonous birds that polluted the water and caused the death of many people by killing them, one by one, with his ever-pleasant expression didn’t even change at all.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: His pupils are shaped like a bright green diamond.
  • It Amused Me: Him assisting Oz in dominating the world was out of loneliness and boredom, like a way to kill time. When White died and Oz lost the motivation to continue the world domination, Figaro looked back at that time wistfully since he quite enjoyed it and lamented that he had to find another pastime.
  • Mind Rape: He gives the Sage of all people this when they ask him to show them the kind of magic he’s best at, which he promptly answers Mind Control. It’s good he actually bothers to heal them back after that.
  • Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Posing as a meek, harmless doctor at the peaceful Southern Country, but is actually a highly powerful and fiendish wizard from the Northern Country infamous for their wizards’ brutality. As much as he tries to hide it, his Northern origin just pops out on a frequent basis, like that time when he killed a poisonous bird right in front of the Sage’s eyes in cold blood despite its pleas.

“I’ll do my best like usual to support you, Master.”

Mitile’s older brother and a school teacher. He has a gentle personality. He lost his parents when he was young and lived with his younger brother while others around them helped. He believes that in the future humans and wizards can live together in harmony.

  • Birds of a Feather: With Arthur, as they both believe in a world where humans and wizards can live together in harmony.
  • Drives Like Crazy: The equivalent to it, with brooms. Even the Sage is terrified when the subject comes up to them.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Snow and White note that the more he grows up, the more he takes after his mother’s eagerness for success. His father is also a teacher.

Rutile’s younger brother. He is sometimes cheeky and spoiled since he is one of the youngest. An honest and hardworking boy. He trains under Figaro in order to become a strong wizard. He is good friends with Riquet from the Central Country.

  • Brainy Brunette: Has brown hair, and is skilled at making medicines which require a lot of knowledge and skill.

“I’m just doing my duty.”

A silent shepherd youth. At first glance, he seems unapproachable and hard to talk to, but he’s very sincere when you get to know him. He holds a lot of trust with Figaro and the other Southern wizards.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: He believes it’s better to fight with his bare hands than to use magic since he’s already got used to that.
  • Gentle Giant: He's the tallest character in the cast at 190 centimeters and a very kind and caring man.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: He shrunk his entire flock of sheep and took them with him when he was summoned. He usually carries one around with him in his bag.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Silent to the point of unapproachable, and won’t say anything until he’s talked to. That said, he’s very kind, meek, and willing to help everyone without any expectations for repayment.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his former master Faust, who he spent nearly 400 years searching for.
  • The Un-Smile: His conscious attempts at smiling come across as this. His genuine smiles are noted to be beautiful, however.
