Main Page | ARKS (Guardians | Council of Six | Classes) | Earth | Omega | Other Planets | The Profound Darkness | 2es

A group comprised of the six most powerful operatives of ARKS. They essentially act as the leaders and field commanders of the organization. The Council of Six was formed after the disastrous Elder War in order to help ARKS rebuild and recuperate. The six members are split into the Odd Numbers (the Three Heroes who originally fought Dark Falz Elder, and their successors) and the Even Numbers (three others chosen to counterbalance the personalities of the Odd Numbers). While the Council are given free rein in how they go about their responsibilities, they are bound by one absolute principle: to ensure the continued existence of the Oracle Mothership no matter the cost. The Council of Six are also distinguished by their ability to wield the Cosmogenic Arms, the unimaginably powerful Super Prototypes upon which all modern ARKS weaponry is derived from.

The initial Council were comprised of Regius, Maria, Casra I, Atossa, Klariskrays I, and Wolf. There have been many new members since then, and the symbolic importance of the Three Heroes is so strong that new Odd Numbers take up the names of their predecessors. At the beginning of the game, only the 4th seat remains open. By the end of Episode 2 however, Zeno takes up the spot.

After the events of Episode 3, ARKS undergoes major restructuring and the Council of Six split up to head new divisions within the organization. Regius now heads the Training Bureau with Zeno as his vice-commander, Maria heads the General Affairs Bureau with Sarah as her vice-commander, Huey heads the Combat Bureau with Klariskrays as his vice-commander, and Casra heads the Intelligence Bureau with Quna as his vice-commander.

WARNING: Late-Arrival Spoiler for events up to Episode 1-3

    In General
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: The only way to join the Council of Six is to prove yourself exceptionally in battle when there's a vacancy.
  • Badass Crew:
    • The Council of Six consists of the strongest and most experienced ARKS operatives in service. Each of them is a One-Man Army able to slay waves upon waves of Falspawn on their own. But due to their responsibilities, they're rarely seen fighting together all in the same place. But when they are, watch out.
    • The "Heaven and Earth" Extreme Quest has you take on data replications of every member of the Six at the same time. While they aren't nearly as strong as the real thing and are weak to every element, they're still not to be taken lightly and will hand you your ass if you're not careful.
  • Deconstructed Trope: The events of Episode 1 and Episode 2 examine the issues with Asskicking Leads to Leadership. All of the Council of Six are incredibly powerful, even if the Guardian eventually outshines them, but they generally seem to prefer to do field work and fight rather than stick around with bureaucracy or actually lead the ARKS forces, with only Casra trying to handle such things alongside Quna. The result is Luther easily manipulating information behind their backs and nearly taking down all of ARKS for it, as well as inner turmoil among them with one hell of a fight over who was in the right. They don't lose their positions, but Ulku and Xiao's reworking of the system forces them to take responsibility more often as a result and defer the heaviest of the ground work to the Guardian as their frontliner.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: Prior to Zeno joining the Council, the team consisted of Regius, Huey, and Casra (male) and Maria, Klariskrays, and Quna (female).
  • Infinity +1 Sword:
    • Every member of the Six wields one of the Cosmogenic Arms, incredibly powerful weapons made from the souls of Photoners and powered by Xion herself. All of them are rumored be incredibly destructive when unleashed. However, their power and the caveats that come with them generally forces the Six to use a more standard-issue weapon for normal missions. Seeing one of the Six break their Cosmogenic Arm out is a sign that things have gotten serious. The only exceptions to this are Klariskrays and Matoi, who are so powerful that normal weapons simply can't handle their photon affinity and fry after a single use, which is why they each use their version of Clarissa in combat at all times.
    • The weapons are available to the players, but only as Weapon Camos for their specific weapon type. They can be obtained by trading in a special item acquired from clearing Episode 2 and Episode 3. Meanwhile, Quantum the Imperial, Femme Fatale the Monarch Slayer, and Alma's version of Clarissa the White are only available through a Star Gem scratch ticket.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Although they're known as the Council of Six, not all the seats may be filled at one time, resulting in the Council have only five members publicly for most of Episode 1 and 2 until Zeno finally joins the group. In addition, there's also the 0th member Quna which brings up them up to seven members in total.
  • One-Man Army: Being this is a requirement to join the Council of Six, and even the less combat-inclined members like Casra and Quna are still ludicrously strong compared to the average ARKS operative.
  • Power at a Price: It's implied that all of the Cosmogenic Arms have a price for using them, though this is never elaborated on in the case of Florenberg or Varham.
    • Clarissa's ability to purify photons comes at the cost of forcing the user to take them within themselves, potentially corrupting them, as it did with Matoi.
    • Labrys is incredibly powerful, but all damage it inflicts is reflected on the wielder, potentially killing them if the damage dealt is too severe.
    • Mai allows the user to sense photon signatures and turn invisible and nearly-undetectable. This comes at the cost of said user slowly losing their 'presence' in other peoples' minds, until the user is eventually forgotten - perhaps both a boon and a curse to an assassin like Quna.
    • Nanaki is implied to wear away at the user's memory over time, given how blurry Zeno's memories of the past are by the end of Episode 6, though this is partially due to Xion's meddling to prevent a temporal paradox.
    • Yonohate is incredibly strenuous to use and Regius nearly collapses from the strain after unleashing it to kill Luther, though Maria notes he could have taken it when he was younger.
  • The Worf Effect: Due to their fame and power, they're often used as a measuring stick to show how powerful the newest antagonist is.
    • After effortlessly wiping out Falspawn, Casra admits that Regius, the original Klariskrays, and the original Casra could only seal Elder away rather than defeat him to show how powerful a Dark Falz is.
    • Phaleg is able to send Huey flying with a single strike and match a blow from Varham the Destroyer with her bare hands to emphasize her inhuman strength.
    • Varuna and Mitra match Regius and Maria blow for blow even with their Cosmogenic Arms drawn before Shiva blows away both Matoi and the Guardian to make it clear how overwhelmingly strong they are.
    • Mitra grievously wounds Zeno and breaks Nanaki to show she means business right after effortlessly repelling attacks from Matoi and the protagonist at the same time.

Current Members

    Regius (#1)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/regius_pso2_episode_6.png
Regius as of Episode 6
Voiced by: Yosuke Akimoto (JP), Keith Silverstein (credited as "David Keefir") (EN)

The first of the Council of Six, and an original member of the legendary Three Heroes. As an old-fashioned but effective CAST warrior, he follows two absolute principles: to destroy all Falspawn, and to protect Oracle no matter what. His Cosmogenic Arms is the infamous Yonohate, a sword said to be able to destroy a planet in a single strike. In combat, the Yonohate is always locked away in a special case, which Regius wields as a Hunter's Sword.

During the climax of Episode 2, he is tricked by Luther into believing that you are part of a conspiracy against the ARKS, and fights you alongside Casra II and Klariskrays III. His hostility lasts until Quna presents him with evidence of Luther's treachery, and he resolves to hold off the Falspawn so you and Matoi can confront Luther. After Luther (as Dark Falz Luther) is defeated and attempts to bargain for his life, Regius upholds his resolve to "destroy all Falspawn" and uses the Yonohate to finish off Luther.

After the events of Episode 3, ARKS goes under a major structural reorganization. As a result, he became the Commander of the Training Bureau where he leads in instructing future generations of ARKS operatives, stealing the march on his sister Maria, though she spends most of her time in the Training Bureau anyway and throws all her responsibilities to her second-in-command Sarah.

  • The Ace: Regius is considered the greatest ARKS operative of all time at the start of the story and is still called "invincible" despite his advancing age. He's admired by every member of ARKS for his wisdom, power, and love for passing his skills onto others.
  • Back for the Finale: The Yonohate, which comes to save him in the nick of time after he breaks the Blade of Genesis while fending off the Luminmechs. Alma becomes the new power source for the Yonohate, allowing him to use his old blade one last time.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: With his younger sister Maria, while defending you and Matoi from approaching Falspawn and Klariskrays III clones while the two of you head to Oracle's core.
  • Badass Boast: In the finale of Episode 6, Alma arrives to rescue Regius by powering the reforged Yonohate, allowing him to strike down the remainder of Shiva's Luminimechs. They punctuate it with a shared boast.
Regius: Let the world bend to our will!note
  • BFS: Yonohate in general. It's massive enough that it's more of a Hunter Sword than it is a Braver Katana.
  • The Cavalry: He comes to Alma's aid as backup during the climax of Episode 5.
  • Cool Old Guy: Regius is a little stuffy and fixated on honor and principles, but he's a genuinely warm and caring grandfatherly figure who looks out for the members of ARKS as though they were his own children. Between this and his reputation as a nigh-invincible warrior, it's little wonder that he's an incredibly popular figure within the organization.
  • Cool Teacher: After ARKS' restructuring, Regius took over the Training Bureau. Even before this, he was known for looking over ARKS training exercises (including catching Zeno meeting with his dear mentor) and has a much gentler, if still strict, touch compared to Maria's Training from Hell.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Yonohate is this in a weapon. Rumor has it that if Regius uses it, it could have possibly catastrophic consequences. When he fights, he never removes it from it's sheath and uses it like a Hunter's greatsword. When he actually does unsheathe it, it doesn't really destroy a planet as it is rumored to, but it manages to kill Luther in a single strike against a cosmic background effect. It also causes visible strain on Regius as well.
  • Driven to Suicide: Mentioned. Regius feels so guilty for being Luther's Unwitting Pawn in Episode 2 that he offers to commit seppuku as repentance until Maria Dope Slaps him and tells him that true repentance would be living to make up for his actions.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In-universe, he was the first person to wield a katana style weapon before the Braver class was invented.
  • Feeling Their Age: As strong as he still is, Regius is getting too old to keep up being an ARKS operative. Both he and Maria realize this and work to ensure that future generations of ARKS are able to handle themselves just fine without their guidance.
  • Foil: To the Protagonist. Both of them are incredibly powerful warriors and one of the best ARKS operatives that their generation had to offer. And much like how the Protagonist befriended and became close to Matoi, Regius had a close relationship with the original Klariskrays, Alma. In a sense, Regius could be seen as what the Protagonist could be like had they decided to move on from Matoi's death in the alternate timeline of Episode 3.
  • Force and Finesse: Regius is the finesse to Maria's force. Regius' swordsmanship is famous throughout ARKS, to the point that Azanami is inspired to create the Braver class because of it.
  • Freudian Trio: Regius is the principled and somewhat stuffy Superego to Maria's blunt Ego and Alma's sunny Id.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • As the leading member of the Council of Six and of ARKS as a whole, Regius possesses the ability to issue a Code: ABYSS, an absolute order that all ARKS operatives save the Council must obey whether they like it or not. He and the rest of the Council consider this a last resort, and Regius himself shows clear regret and apprehension about using it when Luther convinces him to issue one such order against the protagonist and Matoi.
    • His Cosmogenic Arms, Yonohate, is also this. Its power is so great that it must be kept in its sheath at all times, lest it potentially cleave a planet in half. When he does release it, it's against Luther, a Dark Falz and the man who manipulated him into trying to murder the protagonist. Unfortunately, it shatters after this moment, as without Xion to back its power, it couldn't take the strain of its own attack.
  • Heroic Red Ring of Death: Downplayed; Regius is visibly strained from using the unsealed Yonohate, but that's it. Maria notes that it's due to old age.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: When the Blade of Genesis shatters while fending off an infinitely respawning army of Luminimechs in Episode 6, Regius blames himself for not wielding it with sufficient skill rather than the weapon reaching the limits of its endurance.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Averted with Yonohate as Regius tends to use it as Hunter's Sword for the most part. Played straight with the Blade of Genesis.
  • It Only Works Once: Due to Xion's death, Yonohate shatters after it is used to kill Dark Falz Luther.
  • Interspecies Romance: He has a history with Alma, also known as Klariskrays I. When trying to bargain for his life, Luther attempts to sway Regius to his side with promises of bringing Alma back to life. Regius would have none of it, and is genuinely angry that Luther even attempts it before striking him down. Their relationship is brought into focus in sub stories Episode 5.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: The unsealed Yonohate is a plain looking odachi. However, it strikes down Luther the Fallen with relative ease. He gets another one in the form of the Blade of Genesis.
  • Kung-Fu Sonic Boom: When Regius and Maria come to blows in the ARKS mothership, they have to hold back, lest the shockwaves from their blows damage the nearby machinery.
  • Laser Blade: Yonohate can grow twice as long at full power, Absurd Cutting Power to match. It's also capable of one-shotting enemies, as Regius demonstrates on Luther the Fallen. This also applies to his replacement weapon, the Blade of Genesis.
  • Living Legend: Regius is a First-Generation ARKS member and the only original member of the Three Heroes who is still alive and active. Tales of his heroics are shared among the younger members of ARKS, and all look up to him as an invincible hero.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Regius is generally unaware of the entire plotline involving Xion despite his high position, and of Luther's treachery until presented with evidence to the contrary. This leads to him being more of a passive background figure than he probably intends to be.
  • Master Swordsman: He's the best swordsman ARKS has to offer, wielding Yonohate with incredible skill. Combined with its power, it's said that he can cleave a planet in half. Azanami is also so inspired by him that she creates the Braver class to emulate his style.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: He and Maria have their bodies upgraded in time for Episode 6. The corresponding obtainable armor pieces that make up his appearance are referred to as "Magna Regia", as in "great Regius".
  • Mythology Gag: Yonohate is the only Council of Six weapon to have appeared in previous games; in Phantasy Star Zero and the Phantasy Star Universe series, both Yonohate and its sealed form, Yonohate Fu, were available as obtainable weapons.
  • Named Weapons: Yonohatenote , an odachi said to have the power to destroy worlds in a single stroke. Regius opts keep it sheathed in a gigantic bulky case, only unsealing it when the gloves are off.
  • Older Is Better:
    • Though he doesn't look like it, he's over 73 years old and still one of the strongest members of ARKS as a whole. He and Maria in particular are two of the last surviving 1st Generation ARKS.
    • Compared to all the futuristic weaponry featured throughout the game, Yonohate is a plain, classic Japanese-esque odachi. That doesn't mean it can't grow a Laser Blade and Diagonal Cut Luther the Fallen in one blow.
  • Old Soldier: He and Maria stand out as a handful of old, wizened operatives still in service. Unlike Jan, who's prone to comically going on tangents about his youth, Regius and Maria's age is emphasized to show their experience and legendary status, though both of them are Feeling Their Age. Regius in particular refers to himself as this trope by name, and doesn't mind Holding The Line for the Guardians alone against an endlessly respawning horde of Luminimechs as he feels that his time is long past.
  • One-Man Army: He's the biggest example of this among the members of the council. In the finale of Episode 6, whereas the other members all teamed up to deal with Shiva's forces in their respective locations within the Corrupted Mothership, Regius is able to single-handedly hold the line by himself while the Protagonist and Matoi dealt with Shiva. He only falters when the Blade of Genesis finally breaks due to stress, but that issue's quickly solved when Alma arrives as the reforged Yonohate and he proceeds to lay waste to the remaining enemy forces.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: He and Maria have to hold back when they come to blows in the middle of the Oracle Mothership, as the force of their attacks can send damaging shockwaves that would devastate the valuable machinery linking it to Xion.
  • Power Limiter: The big, bulky sheath on Yonohate serves as one for the blade itself. He can still fight with it sealed, but it's moreso bludgeoning things to submission.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Regius is the first and highest-ranking member of the Council of Six, and is considered the greatest asskicker of them all. He's called outright "invincible" on multiple occasions, and they have to hold back when he and Maria come to blows within the Oracle Mothership, lest they destroy its invaluable inner workings.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: His decision to invoke "Code ABYSS" on ARKS to take the Protagonist down aside, Regius genuinely does care about ARKS and the Oracle Fleet as a whole and only wishes the best for it. Once it's made clear he was duped and how far Luther's manipulations went, Regius decides to finally cast his lot in with the Protagonist and Maria and helps them take Luther down.
  • Reforged Blade: Zig and Alma reforged Yonohate between the events of Episode 5 and Episode 6, with Alma powering the weapon with her own body. She and the blade arrive just as Regius was about to accept his death following the destruction of the Blade of Genesis.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: What Regius's Yonohate is rumored to be able to cleave through a planet with a single swing. True to its word, it kills Luther the Fallen with a single flashy Quick Draw.
  • Strong and Skilled: He's strong enough to be considered a Person of Mass Destruction as well as a phenomenal swordsman.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Luther manipulates him into believing the Protagonist is a traitor to ARKS, prompting him to use the Absolute Order against them and eventually try to end them himself. He backs down once he's confronted with evidence of the truth.
  • Weapon Specialization: Yonohate, an odachi rumored to be able to destroy planets in one blow. Its power usually remains sealed inside a gigantic case, allowing Regius to wield it as if it were a Sword. It's destroyed once Regius unsheathes it and uses Yonohate's power on Luther to kill him. He then proceeds to get a replacement weapon, the Blade of Genesis, which is an energy katana formed from a small device he holds on his left that acts as its sheath.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Yonohate shatters after Regius uses it to finish off Luther, as it was unable to withstand its own power without Xion's power. Regius replaces it with the Blade of Genesis, but it too breaks after Regius cuts down Shiva's continually regenerating army of Luminimechs to buy time for the Guardians to defeat her.

    Maria (#2)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maria_pso2_episode_6.png
Maria as of Episode 6
Voiced by: Mami Koyama (JP), Ellyn Stern (EN)

The second of the Council of Six, and Regius' sister. Despite her harsh training methods and caustic tone, she fights for the good of everyone and won't back down without a fight. She is aware that Luther is conducting illegal experiments, but cannot act because she is unsure of how far his influence spreads throughout the ARKS. Instead, she works with a very small number of trusted individuals (Quna, Sarah and Xiao) to investigate and undermine Luther's ambitions.

After the events of Episode 3, after ARKS's major restructure, she had little choice but to become the Commander of the General Affairs Bureau after the Combat and Training Bureaus were taken by Huey and Regius respectively. Despite this, she makes a point to spend her time at the Training Bureau helping train cadets much to the consternation of her second-in-command, Sarah, who's left to deal Maria's responsibilities herself.

  • Back-to-Back Badasses: With her older brother Regius in Episode 2 while defending the Protagonist and Matoi from approaching Falspawn and Klariskrays III clones as they both head to the Oracle Mothership's core to stop Luther.
  • Badass Teacher: She shares her brother's passion for teaching the next generation of ARKS, to the point that she regularly ditches her work at the General Affairs Bureau to train new operatives much to Sarah's annoyance. Considering that she trained Sarah, who's a capable fighter despite her lack of photonic abilities, and Zeno, who went from above average ARKS operative to Council of Six level warrior in the span of a few months, she's damn good at it too.
  • Blood Knight: She really enjoys being able to fight much to the dismay of those she trains with, as it means she'll rarely hold back during training sessions. Zeno and later Echo learn this the hard way.
  • Cool Big Sis: Acts as this for Fourie, Huey and Zeno. The latter two even refer to her as "ane-san" in the original Japanese script despite being decades their senior.
  • Cool Old Lady: She's one of the last remaining first-generation ARKS in service and among its most powerful. She also provides much-needed advice and wisdom to many younger ARKS.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Her Cosmogenic Arms: Labrys the Umbral. It's incredibly powerful, but all of the damage it deals is reflected back onto both the weapon and the wielder. A single swing will destroy almost any enemy, but it breaks the weapon and damn-near cripples Maria.
  • Feeling Their Age: A sub-story in Episode 5 has Maria admit this during a conversation with the Protagonist and Matoi. Both she and Regius realize that they're getting too old and will probably have to retire at some point in the future. While she doesn't think it's anytime soon, they both want to ensure that once they do retire, or are somehow taken out by a future enemy, that ARKS would able to keep itself afloat without them around to help.
  • Force and Finesse: She's the force to Regius' finesse. While Maria is no less skilled, the nature of Labrys and her blunt, direct personality means that she often tries to annihilate her opponent in a single swing rather than a flurry of blows in comparison to her brother.
  • Freudian Trio: Maria's honest and blunt personality makes her the Ego to Regius' regimented Superego and Alma's bright and bubbly Id.
  • Hate at First Sight: She has an inexplicable feeling of rivalry and antagonism when she first meets Phaleg face-to-face in Episode 6, quickly challenging her to a "friendly spar" that sounds like anything but. The feeling is mutual, and their excitement only grows when Huey and Klariskrays offer to join in the brawl.
  • I Know You're Watching Me: Unknowingly pulls this on Alma during a sub story in Episode 5. Maria is brought onto the bridge at Alma's request, who wanted to see how she was doing despite knowing that Maria couldn't really interact with her. However, the moment Alma pokes fun at Maria's old age, the latter immediately turns her head towards the former's general direction, freaking everyone out before Maria waves it off as her imagination.
  • Informed Flaw: Labrys supposedly reflects any damage the user deals onto the user, but Maria has been shown using Labrys to cut down entire armies worth of enemies with nary a scratch. If anything, the weapon breaks faster than she does.
  • Mama Bear: To Sarah. To the point where she slams a Partisan into one of Luther's computers in anger after learning he used her to create Clarissa the Ashen and, by extension, Klariskrays III.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: She and Regius have their bodies upgraded in time for Episode 6. The corresponding obtainable armor pieces that make up her appearance are referred to as "Exmarie".
  • Named Weapons: Labrys the Umbral, a halberd-esque axe with a double-edged power. Its power can cleave through enemies with ease, but its destructive might is also comes with equally destructive recoil that more often than not destroys itself in the process.
  • Older Is Better: She's just three years shy of her older brother, at 70 years old and she along with Regius are two of the last surviving 1st Generation ARKS. Doesn't make her any less effective in combat, however.
  • One-Hit Kill: Labrys is so powerful, it's said that it could one-shot Dark Falz Elder.
  • Only Sane Woman: She, Xiao, and Sarah catch onto Luther's scheming before anyone else and is one of the only two members of the Six to be against him from the start. She Dope Slaps her brother when he offers to commit seppuku to atone for being Luther's Unwitting Pawn, convinces Theo that Ulku loves him just the way he is, and pushes Regius to drop his stuffiness and just admit his feelings for Alma.
  • Old Soldier: She and Regius stand out as a handful of old, wizened operatives still in service. Unlike Jan, who's prone to comically going on tangents about his youth, Regius and Maria's age is emphasized to show their experience and legendary status, though both of them are Feeling Their Age.
  • Parental Substitute: She's this to Sarah, having raised the latter herself and even trained her after Luther discarded her once she proved no more use to him.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: She and Regius have to hold back when they come to blows in the middle of the Oracle Mothership, as the force of their attacks can send damaging shockwaves that would devastate the valuable machinery linking it to Xion.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: She and Huey are the two members of the Council of Six to defy Regius' Code ABYSS order, instead siding with the protagonist and Matoi in undermining Luther.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Regius and Alma. Once the main threat in Episode 5 has been dealt with Regius, who is unable to see or hear Alma, moves to leave but Maria is quick to push him in Alma's general direction and proceeds to give both some alone time, telling Regius that he should stop being so shy at his age and just say something even if she can't return the favor.
  • Training from Hell: She is infamous for her brutal training style. Zeno puts up with it and becomes the 4th member of the Council of Six thanks to her beating him up so much.
  • Weapon Specialization: The Partisans for the most part. She switches to Labrys whenever she feels the need.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Her brutally forceful fighting style has a bad habit of breaking down her own weapons. Even her Cosmogenic Arms, Labrys the Umbral, has to be repaired frequently because of this, much to her annoyance and Zig's frustration.

    Casra II (#3)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/casra_pso2_episode_4.png
Casra as of Episode 4
Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya (JP), Dane Jones (EN)

A mysterious Force Newman, and successor to one of the Three Heroes. While affable and humble, he carries an air of secrecy about himself and his movements. He is actually a clone of the original Casra, whose body was possessed by Luther after he proved difficult to control. As a clone, Casra II is beholden to Luther but also feels a great deal of guilt over his role in Luther's schemes. He therefore works as a double-agent, taking steps to secretly undermine Luther and eventually playing a vital role in exposing his unethical experiments.

After the events of Episode 3, he becomes the head of the "Intelligence Bureau" of ARKS and essentially becomes the organization's formal spymaster. His second-in-command is Quna.

  • Antagonistic Offspring: Towards Luther, who created Casra through the use of Casra I's DNA whose body Luther also currently inhabits. Casra holds him responsible for numerous crimes including his predecessor's death.
  • Badass Longcoat: He trades out his Techter outfit and hat for a Régle Jacket in Episode 4.
  • Brutal Honesty: One of his other annoying habits is that he's blunt to others about his suspicions regarding them.
  • Death Dealer: His weapon of choice is the Talis.
  • Double Agent: As befitting of the one who would become the head of the Intelligence Bureau, he plays this role in Episode 2. He pretends to help Luther while quietly doing what he can to subvert him, even helping out the Protagonist from time to time. It's all but stated that his appearance in opposition to the Protagonist and their allies during the Code ABYSS incident is only him keeping up appearances until his own plans can be set into motion.
  • Foreshadowing: One optional cutscene with him has him talking about a function called the Absolute Order, a command given by a Council of Six member that forces all ARKS members except other Council of Six members to carry out said command. He then mentions how it's never been used, and how he hopes it never will be. Come Episode 2 Chapter 5, and Regius invokes it to send everyone to kill you.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: While most respect his capabilities as a member of the Council of Six and head of the Intelligence Bureau, very few characters within story actually like Casra as a person. Quna regularly threatens to kill him and even Xiera, who's normally very friendly with people, can't help but get annoyed whenever he shows up. It doesn't help that he likes to mess with people.
  • The Gadfly: Consistently makes a point to annoy almost everyone with his behavior even when he's not trying to. Quna is often the most frequent target much to her annoyance and desire to kill him. Meanwhile, almost all of the Intelligence Bureau's bad habits that set Xiera off are because of him, and he actually uses this to particularly make her sweat over the totally clean and not at all peeping recordings she made of Hitsugi's life, pretending to play dumb about their contents so she turns into a blubbering mess over trying to conceal them...before revealing that his real annoyance was that Xiera had done such a sloppy job of redacting irrelevant/embarrassing information, and so he had to take on the task of doing it properly.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: When activated, Florenberg spawns what appears to be a spiral galaxy on its top. In Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, it revealed that it's actually a spacial portal device that can transport mass over short distances, such as when Itsuki Tachibana uses it to enter Dark Falz Apprentice's interior and when Aika uses it to absorb Apprentice's essence.
  • Legacy Character: He inherited the name and position of the original Casra. He is actually a clone of that person, whose body has been possessed by Luther.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Despite his dislike for Luther and everything he's done, Casra is more like his "father" than he cares to admit. For one, he can be just as manipulative and by nature likes to mess with people through words. Despite this, the key difference between them is that Casra does in fact care about ARKS and the greater good and will fight against those who threaten his comrades.
  • My Greatest Failure: As a clone of the original Casra, he is perfectly aware of Luther's plans and actually contributed to them. Feeling guilt over the fact that he lacked the strength to stand up to Luther, he works in the background to undermine him.
  • Named Weapons: Florenberg the Luminous, a Talis with the power to open portals to other locations.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Echo on the Mothership, outlining how trying to become stronger by going way out of her element ultimately just makes her The Load.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The Crunchyroll broadcast of The Animation insists that the name of his Cosmogenic Arms is spelled "Flowenberk".
  • The Spymaster: He becomes the Head of the Intelligence Bureau after ARKS' restructuring and is responsible for much of ARKS' reconnaissance, networking, and other clandestine work. Notably, he's Aika's boss, making the two of them the first members of ARKS to contact Earth, setting the stage for Episode 4.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Casra stops fighting you and Echo to deliver the speech below. Actually used to his advantage, as he gave said speech to buy Quna more time to hack the ARKS database.
  • Weapon Specialization: Normally Gunblades, but when serious he brings out his Cosmogenic Arms: Florenberg the Luminous.

    Zeno (#4)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeno_pso2_episode_2.png
Zeno as of Episode 2
Voiced By: Ryōhei Kimura (JP), Armen Taylor (EN)

An experienced Human Hunter who takes the Protagonist under his wing. His partner within ARKS is Echo, a childhood friend with whom he shares a close though vitriolic relationship with. Although he's a 2nd generation ARKS operative, his potential and skill in combat makes him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Despite this, he lacks the motivation to tap into his full capabilities and is content to stay where he's at. This changes however during the awakening of Elder the Gargantuan on Naverius at the end of Episode 1.

In attempt to save the Protagonist, Echo, and Melrandia, Zeno stays behind to confront the former while they escape and is presumed dead after communications with him is lost. As revealed in Episode 2 however, it turns out that he survived through the help of the Protagonist who time traveled from the future in order to ensure his survival. Realizing how he needs more power in order to confront their future foes, Zeno fakes his death and receives extensive training from Maria. She later grants him the title of Number 4 among the members of the Council of Six. His Cosmogenic Arms is "Nanaki the Vigilant", a gunblade that very few have the capability of wielding effectively.

After the events of Episode 3 and the reorganization of ARKS as a whole, Zeno is named the vice-commander of the Training Bureau. There, he works together with Regius to help train future members of ARKS. In Episode 5, he later marries Echo.

  • All There in the Manual: Almost the entirety of Zeno's secret training in Episode 2 occurs offscreen. Side Stories sheds a little light on what happened there.
  • Big Damn Heroes: As he puts it, a senior looks out for his juniors. He does it the first time when he rescues the Protagonist and Afin from a random Falspawn attack. He does it a second time in Episode 2 with Echo where he saved her from Casra's attack. He does it a 3rd time in Episode 3
  • The Bus Came Back: He's demoted from the main cast in Episode 4 as the focus shifted from ARKS to Earth. He eventually returns as a minor character in Episode 5 where side events deals with his and Echo's marriage. He later returns in full during Episode 6.
  • Everyone Can See It: Pretty much everyone's reaction to him and Echo announcing that they're getting hitched is "well, finally!"
  • Faking the Dead: Thanks to time travel, he ends up surviving what should have been his death. He then proceeds to do this with Maria's help in order to keep Luther from finding out about his survival and planning for it. He also specifically asks the Protagonist to not tell Echo because he's afraid she might let it slip.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Zeno's Council of Six outfit, Savior's Roar, prominently features a large shoulder pad on the left, and a cape draping on the right.
  • Foreshadowing: When you meet Zeno for the first time in the Prologue, he states that he feels like he's met you somewhere before, along with a weird close-up of your face, before he just forgets about it. Turns out that he had met you before, just with a future version of the Protagonist who time traveled 10 years prior to find out more about Matoi's past.
  • Happily Married: He eventually marries Echo in a substory during Episode 5 after Xiera suggests that they should tie the knot.
  • Have We Met Yet?: Brought up a couple of times in some Event Boards, to the player. While he only just met you, he feels like he's seen you before for some reason. He's right. He first saw you ten years ago.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His main weapon as a Hunter is a Sword. He's also no slouch with a Gunblade.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Tries to pull this off in Episode 1 as he allows the others to escape from Dark Falz Elder while he holds it off. It later turns out he survived as the Protagonist's time traveling made sure of it.
  • Image Song: Try to take me again.
  • Japanese Politeness: Refers to the Protagonist as "omae-san", an awkward combination of rudeness and politeness approximate to "Mr. You There".
  • Named Weapons: Nanaki the Vigilant, a gunblade known for its power and versatility, but rumored to wipe the memory of its wielder.
  • Never Found the Body: Zeno is never found after his Heroic Sacrifice, and is otherwise presumed dead. It turns out that he faked his death thanks to the Protagonist.
  • Oblivious to Love: Zeno seems to be having major problems figuring out that Echo has feelings for him. It eventually clicks though.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: His Cosmogenic Arms, Nanaki the Vigilant, went without a wielder for a very long time because of this. Thanks to Maria's training, Zeno eventually became the first one in years to do so.
  • Red Is Heroic: Dominantly wears red much like Klariskrays, though he exhibits more heroic traits unlike her.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: The scarf on Savior's Roar, Zeno's outfit when he joins the Council of Six. Players can also wear it by buying their own.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the span of one Episode, he goes from a mentor figure to a member of the Council of Six.
  • Training from Hell: After being rescued from Dark Falz Elder, Maria subjects him to this in secret. It paid off well, as he ended up getting a seat on the Council of Six and a new weapon, Nanaki the Vigilant, upon his return. Zeno comically becomes fearful of Maria afterwards and makes a point to runaway rather than deal with any more of her training sessions.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: More often than not, you'll see him and Echo bickering with each other. They're incredibly close nonetheless.
  • Weapon Specialization: Swords and Gunblades. As a Hunter he prefers the former, but after switching to a Ranger he instead starts primarily using the latter. As a member of the Council of Six, his Cosmogenic Arms is "Nanaki the Vigilant".
  • Willfully Weak: To an extent. While Zeno always gives his all if it's for the sake of his comrades, he more or less limits himself by choosing to be a Hunter despite his greater affinity for being a Ranger. This changes after his training with Maria where Zeno finally changes his class to Ranger and is all the stronger for it.

    Klariskrays III (#5)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/klariskrays_pso2_episode_4.png
Klariskrays as of Episode 4
Voiced by: Aoi Yūki (JP), Amber Connor (EN)

The third generation Klariskrays, successor to one of the Three Heroes. An absurdly powerful and arrogant Force Human who loves nothing more than blowing up Falspawn (and anything caught in the vicinity) with her Technics. However, as the youngest member of the Council of Six, she is also the most naïve and sheltered of them.

Her Cosmogenic Arms is "Clarissa II: the Ashen", a replica of the original Clarissa which was once used to seal away the Dark Falz. It's later revealed to have been created by Luther, with Klariskrays herself being a cloned human meant to be Luther's unknowing pawn on the Council of Six. This revelation shakes her, but with support from Huey and her friends she's able to recover.

After the events of Episode 3 and the major restructuring of ARKS as an organization, she became the Vice-Commander of the Combat Bureau which Huey leads. A side story in Episode 5 reveals that she was given the ID "IRis-S" by Void; she and the others incorporated it into the name "Iriss".

  • Action Duo: With Sarah.
  • Appropriated Appellation: Void gave her the identification tag "IRis-S" in their records of the cloning project that created her. Learning this from Casra leads her to adopt "Iriss" as her "real" name that she plans to use once she passes on the title of Klariskrays to someone else.
  • The Archmage: As the latest Klariskrays, she's the most powerful Technique-user on the Council of Six, capable of feats of mass destruction to wipe out armies of Falspawn.
  • Art Evolution: Like Sarah, her character's facial model undergoes a slight revamp in Episode 2 Chapter 6 wherein it switches from the Baby Face model to the Sharp model instead.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Pulls it off in Episode 6 Chapter 2 when she shows up out of nowhere to thwart Varuna's attempt to destroy the entrance to Amduskia's core.
  • Break the Haughty: She doesn't take the revelation of being a clone too well at first. She eventually recovers thanks to support from her friends.
  • Character Development: Compare her early in the story to much, much later. She starts out utterly rude, haughty, arrogant and a massive jerk to virtually everyone that isn't Huey. After ending up in a massive Break the Haughty by learning she was a disposable clone thanks to Luther's machinations, she gradually recovers and keeps her rude way of speaking, but becomes much kinder overall. Combine this with her realizing Sarah is effectively family, as is Matoi to a degree, and she greatly softens up and actually starts to have fun with other characters rather than put them down all the time.
  • Child Mage: She's physically and chronologically the youngest member of the Council of Six, having been made using Sarah's DNA and her brief connection with Clarissa to create a person with exceedingly high photon affinity. Her immense power has made her bratty and arrogant, but no one can really deny how powerful she is.
  • Clone Angst: Klariskrays has a massive breakdown when Luther unleashes a horde of Klariskrays III clones and the supposedly real one discovers that she's also a clone too, just more complete than the others.
  • Consulting Mister Puppet: With her weapon, Clarissa II the Ashen, as apparently it can talk. She claims it can tell her everything she needs to know. Unfortunately, that voice happens to be Luther's, who exploits her attachment to the weapon to manipulate her.
  • Fiery Redhead: Klariskrays is irritable, short-tempered, and loud about her skills and power as the latest holder of the name Klariskrays.
  • Fighting Your Friend: She is forced to duel with her buddy Huey due to her rank during Episode 2 Chapter 5. However, it's made fairly clear that she has her reservations about this.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Sarah in Episode 3. She and Sarah were on rocky terms, but then Huey comes up with a plan to make them work together on a mission, and they've hit it off very well since. They even get matching outfits in Episode 4!
  • Genki Girl: She's quite excitable, though this is tempered by her less pleasant personality traits. It becomes more prominent after she gets some humility knocked into her.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Come Episode 4, she starts donning her hair two long pigtails that hang over her shoulders.
  • The Glomp: She gives one towards Matoi in Episode 5, coming out of nowhere to give her a hug much to Matoi's surprise.
  • Good Is Not Nice: For a member of the prestigious Council, she has a gigantic ego and thinks of the player as nothing more than a peon. However, she gets taken down a peg in Episode 2 when she's forced to fight Huey due to siding with Regius and Casra and realizes that she's a mass-produced clone created by Luther. While she retains her ego, it's more because she knows she has a reputation to keep up as the latest Klariskrays and is much more friendly with others, particularly with Sarah, her genetic template.
  • Heroic BSoD: She has a complete and utter meltdown when he discovers that she's merely one of many clones designed to fill the role of "Klariskrays", dropping to her knees and sobbing while begging Clarissa to speak to her. She snaps out of it thanks to Huey.
  • Hey, You!: She constantly refers to the Protagonist as "Kisama" in Japanese script which is considered very rude way of referring to someone in Japanese. In English, she refers to them as "Bonehead".
  • Hidden Depths: The longer the story proceeds as she undergoes Huey's tutelage, the more apparent it becomes that for all of her haughty and arrogant behavior as well as her crude, destructive habits, she's actually surprisingly smart and clever, plus she's quick to catch onto what's bugging others around her. It's likely that she's smarter than Huey altogether and only held back by her naivete. Given that she's a clone of Sarah, her manipulated upbringing is likely why this is all buried beneath her egotistical surface.
  • Kill It with Fire: She favors Fire-element Techniques.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": When in the presence of Matoi, Klariskrays can barely contain her giddiness at being able to talk with her predecessor and is incredibly respectful unlike with most other people. She also shows the same level of reverence towards Alma the moment the latter is brought up in conversation.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: By Episode 5, it's clear that she's been getting lessons from Huey, as she throws a Diving Kick to attack Stratos and they get into an impromptu sparring session to help the latter get out of her funk.
  • Large Ham: Though not to the extent of Huey, Klariskrays can still be just as loud and hammy as him when she wants.
  • Legacy Character: The name Klariskrays is passed down among the Six; she's the third to bear it after Alma and Matoi respectively.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Huey. Klariskrays is very close with the former, basically treating him like family. She also forges a sisterly bond with the person she was cloned from, Sarah. Though humorously she points out in Episode Oracle that Sarah is less her sister and technically more like her mother much to Sarah's embarrassment.
  • Living Weapon: Was designed to be this by Luther, who cloned Sarah to create multiple puppets powerful enough to take on the Council of Six if need be. The current Klariskrays is the one who managed to gain consciousness rather than be a completely subservient doll.
  • Mundane Solution: When fighting against Varuna in Episode 6. Due to their abilities, Varuna and his fellow Photoners are more or less invisible to the regular ARKS operative's senses which allows them to take them by surprise during combat. To circumvent this, Klariskrays simply opts to blow up her surroundings until they come out of hiding. Varuna even commends her for it, calling it a crude but certainly viable strategy.
  • Named Weapons: Clarissa II the Ashen, a weaker reproduction of the original Clarissa the White. While its shares the original's power, it lacks the power to purify photons.
  • No Sense of Direction: She gets lost easily, and while running from the Protagonist and Huey to sulk, she ends up running right into the protagonist despite getting a several minute head start.
  • No Social Skills: She's an absolute brat that refers to the Guardian rudely from start to finish, and clearly lets her mouth travel faster than her brain. She does get kinder as the story progresses, but her young mindset never stops her from annoying others in conversations, which makes it difficult to even say what she originally intended sometimes.
  • Playing with Fire: She has a particular fondness for fire Techniques, and her arrival is usually heralded by something exploding because of her.
  • Red Is Heroic: Her hair and attire is predominantly red. Despite her enormous ego, she is very much on the side of ARKS.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The loud, rambunctious red to Sarah's cynical, weary blue.
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: Her weapon, Clarissa II the Ashen. The real Clarissa is white, and was broken into three pieces prior to the story. As of Episode 3, the real thing is with Matoi.
  • Smug Super: She's incredibly powerful, she knows it, and she considers almost everyone else beneath her as result.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Her name/title is officially spelled as "Klariskrays", but others have also translated it as "Clariskrays" and "Claris Claes" as well.
  • Talking Weapon: The Clarissa is famous for having this as a trait, though no one has actually heard it talk, and many state that it only talks to Klariskrays, so it remains little more than a rumor. Episode 2 reveals that it can talk, but can only be heard by its wielder. It also unfortunately turns out to be Luther who used this connection to manipulate Klariskrays. After he's taken down it stops talking.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She grows a lot less mean after the revelation that she's a clone, and her companionship with Sara has helped soften her up a bit more. By the time Episode 3 wraps up, she takes her name in stride in spite of being a clone, knowing she has a reputation to keep up. She still speaks rather brusquely regardless though.
  • Weapon Specialization: Clarissa II the Ashen, a large, black-colored rod that's a knockoff of the original Clarissa. Though a replica of the original, it's still a very powerful weapon.
  • Younger Than They Look: Though her biological age is listed as 16 years old in the first three episodes, being a clone of Sarah means that Klariskrays chronologically can't be more than 10 years old at best.

    Huey (#6)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/huey_pso2_episode_4.png
Huey as of Episode 4
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara (JP), Joe Zieja (EN)

The most hot blooded and enthusiastic member of the Council of Six. Huey aspires to motivate the ARKS by putting on his own show of enthusiasm and bravery, though all it earns him is awkward looks from the ARKS members. He is the most honest and idealistic member of the Council of Six, though privately worries about the weight of responsibility this places upon him. His Cosmogenic Arms is "Varham the Destroyer", a pair of flaming knuckles that allows Huey to devastate foes with ease.

In Episode 2, he is assigned to be the mentor of Klariskrays III in the hope of teaching her right from wrong. The two get along very well. However, at the climax of the episode, Huey joins the Protagonist and Maria in fighting against his fellow Council members which puts him in conflict against Klariskrays. Fortunately for both, things are settled and both are able come out of it for the better.

After the events of Episode 3, he became the Commander of the Combat Bureau, stealing the march on Maria, who, to her utmost displeasure, was relegated to the General Affairs Bureau. His vice commander is Klariskrays III.

  • Badass Boast: Gives an excellent one right before the battle against the Three Heroes begins in earnest. And rather than do it in a hammy way, he speaks very calm yet serious tone when it happens.
Huey: ...I see. Then playtime is over. I am Number Six of the Six, and you are Number Five of the Six, Klariskrays, and I will stop you. Wake up and smash... Wolfram! [summons his Cosmogenic Arms] Steel your heart, Klariskrays! This.. is what you call hostility!
  • Barbarian Longhair: His hair is long and swept back so it doesn't cover his face, matching his Hot-Blooded nature and preference for close quarters combat.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He's assigned to mentor Klariskrays and teach her right from wrong. He later takes to mentoring Stratos, the young Hero Class Trainer who debuts in Episode 5.
  • Boxing Battler: Despite being a Wired Lance wielder, his Cosmogenic Arms, Wolfram, is a pair of knuckles.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He can't stand doing the same desk work as Regius and Maria, instead heading out regularly to help ARKS ops in need and offer a few words of advice.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite his goofy, Hot-Blooded demeanor, he's talented enough to get fast-tracked into ARKS and became one of the six most powerful members of the organization. In Episode 4, he took an attack from Phaleg Ives and came away unscathed, although it was ultimately a two-on-one with the Protagonist's aid, it should be noted that the three of them did not go all out.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: As the newest member of the Six prior to Zeno's promotion, Huey doesn't get a lot of respect compared to Regius, Maria, or Casra. Most people think his Hot-Blooded behavior is weird and wonder if he has better things to do than run around looking for people to save. Huey seems to take it in stride though, and anyone who's actually fought with him knows his power is the real deal.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Comes to blows with Klariskrays during the climax of Episode 2 against Luther. Though he doesn't like it and cares for her deeply, he decides to fight her regardless if it means doing the right thing. Fortunately for him, the fight ends with them both back on the same side.
  • Heroic Build: As appropriate for someone who primarily fights in close quarters, Huey has a noticeably muscular physique. It's more apparent with his Episode 4 outfit.
  • Hot-Blooded: Good lord, yes! The dude screams Hot-Blooded just by looking at him! However, it's deconstructed slightly, since many characters think of his hot-bloodedness as loud and really annoying, to the point where Huey himself depressingly notes that he doesn't get a lot of friends. Which he plans to solve by being more Hot-Blooded. In all fairness, the guy really thinks his character spreads enthusiasm.
  • Hunk: Fairly good looking in his own right and he's also rather muscular beneath his armor too.
  • Image Song: Ultimate Energy.
  • Large Ham: Honestly, it'd be easier to tell you when he ISN'T hamming it up. He's not quite as over-the-top in the dub, however.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Klariskrays. The two get along very well with Huey basically acting as the former's older brother and often looks out for her.
  • Named Weapons: Vahram the Destroyer, a pair of fiery and powerful knuckles. He also carries a pair of Wired Lances called the Energy Huezer.
  • Nice Guy: He's by far the most openly friendly of the Council of Six, lacking Klariskrays' condescension, Casra's snideness, Maria's intimidating presence, or Regius' stuffiness. He's always happy to come to the aid of a fellow ARKS op and loves to strike up conversation with others in the field. His youthful enthusiasm is also why he's the one selected to mentor Klariskrays, as he would be able to provide her with open emotional support that the other members of the Six can't.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Huey's generally a very upbeat guy with rarely anything being able to douse his enthusiasm and desire to spread it to others. However, as in the fight against Luther, he shows that he can be very serious when he needs to be. Also played for laughs during one moment in Episode 2 when musing about Klariskrays and if he was of any help as a mentor. Huey immediately lampshades afterward how of character that was and asks the Protagonist to not mention it to anyone.
Huey: What? Oh no! I was actually talking seriously, I can't be out of character!
  • Playing with Fire: The main element of Vahram the Destroyer.
  • Red Is Heroic: Huey's outfit is primarily red and orange, and he's a Hot-Blooded hero to the core.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: He and Maria are the two members of the Council of Six to defy Regius' Code ABYSS order, siding with the protagonist and Matoi instead.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Messy Hair? Check. Hot-Blooded? Check. Crusading Close-Range Combatant with Chronic Hero Syndrome? Double check.
  • Weapon Specialization: Wired Lances, his personal pair being the "Energy Huezer". When he gets dangerous, though, he wields the "Cosmogenic Arms: Vahram the Destroyer", which are basically flaming knuckles.

    Quna (#0)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/quna_pso2.png
Quna in her Idol persona
Zelsius Quna as of Episode 6
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura (JP), Kayli Mills (EN)

An Idol Singer who frequently takes center stage throughout Oracle, with countless fans from across the entire fleet. With her poppy tunes and engaging dances, she steals the spotlight and makes it known that she's the shining light of the fleet. Yet deep inside, this seemingly-friendly face harbors a mysterious secret, one that will inevitably bring her past to light and cross the threads of destiny with a fated warrior.

In truth, Quna's real identity is Zelsius Quna, the secret "0th" member of the Council of Six who leads the "Death Squad", an elite unit whose primary purpose to eradicate all threats to ARKS and Oracle whether they be Falspawn or members ARKS themselves. After the events of Episode 3, she removes herself from the front lines and has taken up the position of Vice-Commander of the Intelligence Bureau that Casra leads.

Quna also serves as a supporting character in Phantasy Star Online 2es, where she becomes a close ally and informant for the Falspawn Busters during Season 2. She additionally appears in IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga as a crossover character.

  • All There in the Manual: Zelsius Quna's name is never given in-game; she is simply referred to as "Quna".
  • Adaptational Badass: Compared to the game where she teamed up with the Protagonist in order to take Haddred down during the final battle with him, Episode Oracle has Quna plead Ash to stand aside and act as a witness as she wants to deals with Haddred by herself as his older sister.
  • Animal Motifs: Dragons appropriately enough given her relationship with Haddred. Her outfit as Zelsius Quna even features a tail like appendage and the general silhouette she has is reminiscent of one.
  • Background Music Override: When she appears in the Level Up Quest, an instrumental mix of Our Fighting - Ver.MIYABI replaces the background music.
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Quna is famous for her singing voice in her public identity as an idol, and hosts most of the concerts on the ARKS Ships as a result. Her concerts are always packed and met with thunderous applause. Even before becoming an idol, Haddred would always become docile listening to her sing. His first and last words are to ask her to sing for him again.
  • Becoming the Mask: She originally did the Idol gig as part of her job, but eventually came to like the role so much that she's come to prefer singing over fighting.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • She saves the Protagonist and company from Regius' wrath by revealing the fabrications that Luther has done and using her authority as the 0th member of the Council of Six to undo the "Code ABYSS" order on all ARKS members. She then proceeds to help them out in person during the final battle with Luther himself.
    • She uses her invisibility power to save the Falspawn Busters from a dangerous attack by Hade during the climax of Season 2 of Phantasy Star Online 2es.
  • Blade Spam: In the anime, fights with her usually amount to an enemy being slashed dozens of times in an instant before dissolving in a shower of particles and gore before Quna makes herself known.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Barely elaborated on, but it's mentioned that Quna's invisibility power consumes a great number of photons, enough to have serious long-term effects on her health.
  • Combat Hand Fan: The paper fans she uses when performing Neverending Story are available to players as a 12★ Talis.
  • Demoted to Extra: The final chapters of Episode 1 are her Day in the Limelight; after that, her role in any story content going forward is reduced to the absolute bare minimum outside of a few events where she helps the Protagonist out during the story.
  • Double Consciousness: Her public identity as an Idol Singer, her secret identity as a member of the Death Squad and the Council, and her attempts to find a balance between them in her own mind, are a constant theme with her.
  • Dual Wield: As a Fighter, her specialty is Twin Daggers.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: Her outfit as Zelsius Quna features spandex like yellow suit that does a bang up job of showing her figure. She eventually trades this in for her Episode 6 outfit which adds more armor to her overall look.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Prominently sports them, and they're multicolored, to boot.
  • Hair Color Spoiler: For the observant player, her hair color is a spoiler. In her idol appearance, he hair is primarily orange-brown turning blue at the tips. As Zelsius Quna, her real form, it's the other way around; blue to orange-brown. She's the only one sporting that specific two-toned hair even before her identity is found out in-game.
  • Identity Amnesia: It is implied that she has no memories of her time before joining ARKS. This is a big reason for why she is so devoted to her work, feeling that her entire identity lies as a member of the Death Squad.
  • Idol Singer: She performs as part of the story, and in scheduled game events. You can buy her singles both in-game (as tracks for your room's Jukebox) and in real life, such as Our Fighting.
  • Internal Affairs: As a member of the Death Squad, Quna's job was to root out dangerous members of ARKS who might turn against the organization and quietly murder them to remove potential threats. After the Death Squad was disbanded, she threw herself into her idol role, though she still went out on missions to keep an eye on the protagonist, upon which they discover her and gradually get to know her.
  • Lip Lock: The only character to avert it, though only when she's singing.
  • Morality Chain: For Haddred. Even after having lost most of his sanity, he still has enough semblance of self to attack anyone trying to attack Quna. Quna herself has one in the form of the Protagonist, who ends up becoming her only other friend outside of Haddred and tends to loosen up whenever they're around. She even stops herself from hurting Aki, one of the scientists responsible for turning Haddred into what he became, all because of the Protagonist's wish.
  • Ms. Fanservice: A given thanks to her Idol profession. Quna has a number of outfits that compliment her appearance quite well, and as Zelsius Quna, she regularly wears a skin tight yellow suit that shows off her curves.
  • Named Weapons: Mai the Unseen, twin daggers that allow its wielder to conceal themselves and sense Photon signatures. The camouflage ability, however, can permanently affect one's perception of the wielder, to the point of being forgotten.
  • Only Friend: The Guardian is hers. They're the only ARKS Operative that Quna is actually shown to be quite close with as opposed with the others, including those among the Council of Six, whom she treats more professionally.
  • Perception Filter: As Zelsius Quna, she can effectively render herself invisible by manipulating photons to force others to not perceive her. This goes so far as to erase her from other people's memories if their photon affinity isn't strong enough. The fact that the protagonist is able to see right through her invisibility shocks her, and she's briefly worries that they'll have forgotten her completely when they come out of a two year cryosleep.
  • The Power of Rock: Quna occasionally puts on concerts as a means of raising morale amongst the members ARKS. In-game, after she performs, everyone on the ship who was able to hear her song gets a buff.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Quna was only added to the game about a month prior to the release of Episode 2, but her actual story introduction is noted to take place during the main story of Episode 1 itself during the Guardian's missions to retrieve Clarissa the White on Xion's behalf.
  • Retired Badass: As of Episode 4, she has more or less retired from her former job as an assassin and spymaster, as her new position as the lieutenant of the ARKS intelligence Bureau has left her essentially in a pencil-pushing role. Quna is all the happier for it, as she finds far more joy in singing for other as an idol than cutting down enemies from the shadows.
  • Rousing Speech: Quna uses one in conjunction with her own Abyss to remove the Brainwashing effect of Regius' Abyss from the members of ARKS in Episode 2.
  • Secret Identity: Outside of the Protagonist and certain members of ARKS, no one actually knows that there's a 0th member of the Council of Six much less that resident Idol Singer Quna is said person.
  • Secret-Identity Identity: Quna angsts over her true identity: as an unquestioning weapon of the Death Squad, as her manufactured Idol Singer persona, or something between? This conflict is catalyzed by the fact that she has no memories of her time before the ARKS.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: In both the Japanese and English voice acting, Quna's singing voice is vastly different from her speaking voice in either form, with the actress's natural singing voice being used to perform. The Episode 4 concerts try to avert this by having Kitamura sing in a higher pitch akin to Quna's normal speaking voice with songs like "Cosmic Twinkle Star", but she uses her deeper voice again when singing ballads like "At The End of the Light".
  • Spell My Name With An S: Quna's name was originally spelled "Kuna" in a trailer that introduced her and the theme song Our Fighting. The true spelling of her name was revealed in her live performances, spelled with a Q in the game's substitution-cypher alphabet. It's also spelled with a Q in the end credits and in the unofficial fan translation. Foreign official translations seem to consistently get this wrong and use the former.
  • Vocal Evolution: In Episode 4, Zelsius Quna sounds much more calm and relaxed, as opposed to her previous appearances, which gave her the voice of a dead-serious warrior. Quna's normal voice is otherwise the same.
  • Weapon Specialization: Her Cosmogenic Arms, Mai the Unseen, are a pair of uniquely shaped daggers attached to her wrists.
  • What the Hell Are You?: She asks this of the Protagonist when she realizes they're somehow capable of seeing through her invisibility to an extent.

Alma

The 1st Generation Klariskrays
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (JP)

The original "Klariskrays" and one of the Three Heroes. A young and frail girl with a peerless affinity for photons, the real "Klariskrays I" was actually none other than Alma's split personality who had a body composed of pure photons.

After Alma's body was killed by Luther so he could acquire her ability to manipulate time, Klariskrays I granted her photonic body as a replacement. This allowed Alma's mind and soul to survive as a "spirit" of the Akashic Records. She becomes a major supporting character at the start of Episode 5.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Refers to Regius, Maria, and Casra I as Reggie, Mary, and Cassie respectively.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Due to dying young, Alma's spirit remains as youthful as ever while Regius, who has secretly harbored feelings for her, has grown into old age. Despite this, Alma and Regius' feelings toward one another remain unchanged, even though they can't communicate with one another.
  • Animal Motif: Her hair is styled to resemble fox ears and her outfit has a cord on the back for a 'tail'.
  • Anime Hair: Those aren't ears, they're giant tufts of hair that are either being held up by her accessories or stand up on their own naturally. And that's not even getting into the fact that the inner parts of her hair have a celestial look to them.
  • The Archmage: As the original Klariskrays, Alma possessed incredible photon affinity and unsurpassed ability to use Techniques. Her abilities have weakened somewhat without the actual Klariskrays personality to guide her, and she even says that Matoi is overall the stronger combatant between them, but she can still do things like stop time that seem magical even to other powerful tech-specialists like Matoi. Despite this, Alma is still powerful enough to destroy most Falspawn with a wave of her hand even while focusing most of her attention on keeping her Akashic Hold around Omega to keep the black hole from expanding.
  • Audience Surrogate: The justification for the Omnibus Quest involves Xiera showing to Alma a virtual recreation of the exploits of the player in the past (aka. EPISODE 1~3), thus catching Alma up to speed on the events leading to their present-day situation the same way as a new player. This is slightly twisted by Alma interjecting at the end of every Chapter to give her interpretation of the events of the Chapter and provide further detail based on her own history.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the climax of Episode 6, she shows up out of the blue as Yonohate's new power source, guiding the blade to Regius and smiting all of the Luminmechs along the way just as her old friend was about to fall in battle. Together they lay waste to the rest of Shiva's army.
  • Buffy Speak: Although she's one of the most powerful Technique specialists in ARKS' history, Alma struggles to describe her techniques to others, describing the seal she designed to contain Elder as creating several layers of photons before simply "smushing them together", leaving Matoi baffled. The original Casra was so fed up with her feats that defied his own understanding of Techniques that he just called it magic rather than trying to decipher it any further.
  • The Cameo: Briefly appears in Episode Oracle via an image Luther pulls out during his attempt to turn Regius to his side.
  • Celestial Body: The inner side of her hair has a cosmic texture like a night sky or a photo taken of space.
  • Energy Being: Her body is composed entirely of photons.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupil have a unique star like shape to them.
  • Freudian Trio: The cheerful, kind, and bubbly Alma is the Id to Regius' regimented Superego and Maria's Ego.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: Her boots are more like giant, pointed metal hooves that don't seem to bother her thanks to her spiritual floating. If the player wears her outfit, they stand directly on the tips with no heel support whatsoever.
  • Invisible to Normals: As a spirit she can only be seen by people with a major connection to Xion - which makes for a scant list of only Xiao, Matoi, Xiera, and the Protagonist. Maria and Risa are both able to sense her presence somewhat through sheer instinct, but aren't able to see or hear her at all. Later, Alma becomes visible to Sarah after Xiao houses his power within her, allowing Alma to point Sarah towards Amduskia to give Xiao a new body.
  • Jerkass God: Klariskrays turns out to be Epyk's patron god, who Margareta describes as nothing but an opportunist and only lent Margareta her power for the final fight when she pointed out that Klariskrays would have no worshippers left if everyone died.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Klariskrays did one after the big battle with Dark Falz 40 years ago, sacrificing herself to create a Photonic body for Alma. What remains of her in Omega does it again to save Hariette.
  • The Lost Lenore: To Regius. Him and Alma are implied to have feelings for one another and her sacrifice is what motivates him to protect and uphold ARKS in order to honor her memory. In Episode 2, Luther tries to sway Regius to his side by promising to revive Alma for him, but Regius has none of it and strikes the former down swiftly.
  • Morality Chain: The climax of Episode 5 reveals that Alma was this to Klariskrays. The latter was frustrated by how ARKS deified Klariskrays' powers while caring little about Alma's condition as they got sent out to fight Falspawn time and again. Although Klariskrays tried to convince Alma to abandon ARKS to its fate, Alma refused, so to save Alma, Klariskrays continued to work with ARKS until Alma's death. But when Alma takes the field again, Klariskrays returns to physical form within the Akashic Records on Omega to aid the Guardian in the final battle against Elmir.
  • Ms. Exposition: She offers a lot of info on Omega and the true nature of the Akashic Records.
  • Nice Girl: Sweet, bubbly, and eternally curious, the alarm caused by her sudden appearance on the ARKS Bridge is quickly defused by Alma's kind and gentle nature.
  • Older Than They Look: She's about as old as Regius and Maria are being fellow 1st generation ARKS, but since Alma is a sort of photon spirit she hasn't really aged in all the years she's been gone. According to the official website, Alma's appearance is what she looked like at 18 years old.
  • Patron God: Klariskrays is Epyk's patron, having provided its tenets to its line of Divine Queens and giving the queens their powers. As such, Epyk is a thriving, happy nation despite being located in an inhospitable desert, even taking the battlefield herself when all of Omega rises up against Elmir.
  • Physical God: The original Klariskrays is so powerful that she became worshipped as Epyk's Patron God. Once she takes the field personally, she accesses the Akashic Records to summon Atossa and Wolf from the dead to aid you against Elmir's endless army of Falspawn before instantly conjuring Clarissa the White to blast away huge chunks of the enemy on her own.
  • Sneeze Cut: There are multiple cuts where Alma sneezes while Klariskrays is talking about her to the heroes on Omega.
  • Split Personality: Alma explains that the "Klariskrays" persona was an extension of her incredible photon affinity that took on a mind of its own. Alma describes Klariskrays as a pushy and demanding person who accomplished incredible feats of photon use. Alma admits that she's not nearly as good as Klariskrays, who gave up consciousness to house Alma's mind in a body made of photons. And indeed, when you meet Klariskrays on Omega, her personality is very different from that of the kindly Alma.
  • Time Master: Alma has the ability to stop time, and can centralize the effect around a specific area, which is how the Protagonist and Xiera are able to enter the black hole leading to Omega without being consumed by it and also allows them to return without issue. It's also revealed that Luther's version of the power came from Alma the first place.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Her time powers are apparently not photon-based; according to Alma, Casra would take great issue with anyone calling it a technique, insisting that it be referred to as "magic", while Maria and Regius simply admitted that they had no idea what she was doing at all.
  • You Remind Me of X: Klariskrays reveals that she likes Margareta for her spunk and lack of forethought to her actions, which remind her of a "certain someone" she used to help: Alma.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Upon realizing that simply stopping time around the black hole alone won't prevent its expansion, Alma teleports in front of it to surround it in the same seal she used against Elder, stemming its consumption and giving the fighters in Omega enough time to regroup and call for help in besieging Elmir's fortress. But she's forced to fight off waves of Falspawn while struggling to maintain the seal, eventually allowing some Falspawn through the barrier. She would have been killed if not for Regius' and Maria's timely arrival.

    Casra I
A 1st generation member of ARKS and one of the Three Heroes together with Regius and Alma. Some time after the sealing of Elder on Naverius, his body would later be taken over by Luther the Fallen and cloned to produce his successor, Casra II. Little is known about him outside of that.
  • The Ghost: Despite being relatively important to Casra II's backstory, the original Casra never actually makes any real appearances within the game itself even through flashbacks. Or at least his mind doesn't. His body, on the other hand, appears all the time, since Luther is currently using it.
  • How Unscientific!: Averted. Rather than try and rationalize her abilities through ARKS knowledge of photons, Casra I outright referred to Alma's abilities as magic and got annoyed at anyone who thought otherwise.
  • Posthumous Character: Long dead by the time the story begins.

    Atossa
