https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wildwing_7420.jpg
Voiced by: Ian Ziering, Denis Laustriat (French), Alfonso Obregón Inclán (Latin Spanish), Marco Antônio Costa (Brazilian Portuguese)

Leader of the Ducks both on and off the ice, and their goalie. At first, he was reluctant to take charge after Canard's disappearance, but eventually, he comes to accept the role of leadership.

Nosedive Flashblade

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Nosedive_4084.jpg
Voiced by: Steve Mackall, Ludovic Baugin (French), Irwin Daayán (Latin Spanish), Oberdan Junior (Brazilian Portuguese)

A wise guy and the most laidback of the team, as well as their left wing on the ice. Wildwing's younger brother, who initially wasn't meant to be part of Canard's resistance. Once on Earth, Nosedive becomes an official member of the team, both on and off the ice.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Nosedive definitely has his moments, to both Wildwing and the rest of the team.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Sorta; he's a big comic book geek who happens to be a superhero himself.
  • Butt-Monkey: Usually gets the worst of most situations if it's not the Saurians getting it.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Although he can always kick butt with the best of them, his skills are still in need of a little improving.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish wisecracker to Wildwing's responsible.
  • Friend to All Children: He gets along well with Buzz Blitzman, as well as Thrash and Mookie, the kids that work at the comic book store.
  • Friend to All Living Things: He befriends and takes care of the baby alien in the episode "Bringing Down Baby."
  • Hidden Depths: Learned how to pilot the Aerowing just from watching Canard fly it, and apparently has enough engineering savvy to build his own modified Zamboni, although that only lasted the one episode.
  • Kid-Appeal Character: He's the youngest, the one who's into video games and comic books, and always has something "cool" to say.
  • Meta Guy: Everyone in the team gets a go at Medium Awareness, but he's the one who most often jabs at the fourth wall.
  • The Slacker: He would sometimes rather be lazing about reading comics or playing video games than fighting evil.

Duke L'Orange

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Orange_2_9047.jpg
Voiced by: Jeff Bennett, Bruno Choël (French), Yamil Atala (Latin Spanish), Duda Ribeiro (Brazilian Portuguese)

A notorious jewel thief on Puckworld, Duke changed his ways to battle Lord Dragaunus. He serves as the team's center on the ice.

  • Because I'm Good At It: Though a former thief, he often uses his skills for the greater good.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Though less offensive than most.
  • The Conscience: Surprisingly it's because of his criminal past that he acts this way in the pilot movie when the rest of the team wants to abandon some mugging victims they happened to pass.
"Hey, I've been on the wrong side of the law, and if we don't fight evil wherever we find it, we're no better than Dragaunus himself."
  • Cool Sword: Duke wields both an energy blade and later the magical "Star Sword", given to him by Borg.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He was once the leader of a gang called the "Brotherhood of the Blade."
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has his moments.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He wears an eye patch, possibly as a result of his past as a thief.
"Hey, take it easy! You can put someone's eye out with that thing. I should know."
  • Gentleman Thief: He was a rather chivalrous jewel thief, until the Saurians' arrival cued his Heel–Face Turn.
  • The Lancer: As the most worldly, he generally ends up with the role of second in command, though sometimes it's shared with Mallory.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He's very fast and a proficient swordsman as well.
  • Master Swordsman: He's usually bringing a sword to a gunfight, but he keeps up with and/or outclasses just about everyone else in combat skill.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His outfit is purple, and he's very skilled in combat.
  • Punny Name: His name comes from the french dish, duck a l'orange.
  • Reformed Criminal: Stopped stealing in order to help the resistance against the Saurians. While he keeps his skills sharp, he is fully devoted to show it's stuck.

Mallory McMallard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mallory_5353.jpg
Voiced by: Jennifer Hale, Laurence Crouzet (French), Araceli de León (Latin Spanish), Mônica Rossi (Brazilian Portuguese)

Mallory, a fiery redhead, is a sharp-tongued former member of Puckworld's military. Well-versed in the martial arts and a strict disciplinarian, she's the team's right wing on the ice.

Tropes associated with Mallory:
  • Boisterous Bruiser: A rare female example.
  • Brains and Brawn: Mallory, who's a fighter, is the Brawn to Tanya's Brains.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: When it comes to her fan Buzz Blitzman.
  • Cool Big Sis: Acts as one to Buzz.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Despite being dedicated to following protocol, she definitely isn't shy about being sassy.
  • Fiery Red Head: She certainly has a hot temper, and very willing to use those combat skills of hers.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She's usually the first to suggest shooting something or blowing it up.
  • Hopeless with Tech: As opposed to Tanya, Mallory is an idiot when it comes to machines. She was unable to tell the difference between a button and a switch (on a time bomb), which almost got them all blown up.
Tanya: (setting up time bombs) Now throw the toggle switch!
Mallory: (looks between the switch and the big red button) Uh.... toggle switch... affirmative! (presses the button, activating the bomb to blow after 3 minutes)
Tanya: NO! I TOLD YOU TO THROW THE SWITCH, NOT PRESS THE BUTTON!
Mallory: Switch, button, what's the diff?
Tanya: ABOUT NINE MINUTES OF ESCAPE TIME!
  • Lady of War: With guns instead of swords.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She wears a purple outfit and is very capable in combat.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Mallory, a sharp-tongued fighter, is the red to Tanya's blue (tech genius).
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: The end of the episode "A Traitor Among Us" proves this in spades when she stuns Nosedive and Duke with a little red dress.
  • Space Marine: Her former career was actual military.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Undisputed badass bruiser of the team, but also loves shopping and fashion.
  • Tsundere: Generally the group's military hardass, but Mallory does have a softer side.

Tanya Gertrude Vanderflock

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Tanya_Vanderflock_2905.jpg
Voiced by: April Winchell, Vanina Pradier (French), Laura Torres (Latin Spanish), Nádia Carvalho (Brazilian Portuguese)

The Ducks' resident tech-genius and left defense on the ice. She is good with mechanics and uses her Omnitool on her wrist for many of her projects.

  • Action Girl: Not as much as Mallory, but she can hold her own in a fight.
  • Badass Bookworm: Her knowledge makes her just as much of a threat to Dragaunus's plans as the other ducks, if not more so given she usually ends up dismantling whatever world-conquering technology he's come up with or stolen.
  • Brains and Brawn: Tech genius Tanya is the Brains to Mallory's Brawn.
  • Combat Medic: This medic's pretty proficient in battle.
  • Congestion Speak: Sounds like has serious allergies. Implied as well.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Which is why it's in spoiler text.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Built the Drake One supercomputer, and tried to build an upgraded version of the group's ground transport.
  • Mr. Fixit: She can fix just about anything.
  • MacGyvering: She often has to resort to this.
  • The Medic: Tanya seems to be the only member of the team with any kind of medical talent.
  • Mundane Solution: When the other Ducks are trapped in a hi-tech glass chamber filling with water, Tanya analyzes several ways to effectively get them out. She considers opening the lock with her omnitool, but that would take too much time. She could try hacking the controls to open it up, but that also would take too much time. She could try removing the valve, but then the water wouldn't stop and will flood the room. Finally, Tanya decides to hell with it, and just simply breaks the glass with a puck launcher shot.
  • No Fourth Wall: She and Nosedive are the ones who most often break the fourth wall.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: She's a specialist at just about every kind of science.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her glasses covey this.
  • Two Girls to a Team: The only other girl out of six.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's terrified of dinosaurs (justifiable, really), and eventually conquers that fear.

Check "Grin" Hardwing

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Grin_7589.jpg
Voiced by: Brad Garrett, Jean-Jacques Nervest (French), Miguel Ángel Ghigliazza (Latin Spanish), Maurício Berger (Brazilian Portuguese)

Super strong with a Zen-like philosophy, Grin is wise and doesn't let his anger cloud his judgment. He is a good friend of Nosedive. During Grin's youth, he had a horrible temper. He found enlightenment with the training from the grand hockey master, Tai Quack Do. He serves as the team's right defense on the ice.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Grin prefers to use his fists to fight.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: It takes A LOT to get him angry, but when he is, hope you're not the one that set him off.
  • The Big Guy: The tallest and strongest out of all the Ducks.
  • Cool Big Bro: A surrogate one to Nosedive.
  • Expy: Of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda.
  • Gentle Giant: Easily the largest of the Ducks, and also the nicest.
  • Feel No Pain: His catchphrase is a comedic subversion of this trope.
Grin: Pain is an illusion... an illusion that really, really hurts!
  • Ice-Cream Koan: Most of his Koans make zero sense. His mentor was better at the mystic metaphors.
  • Made of Iron: The guy survives being thrown through brick walls on a daily basis.
  • Martial Pacifist: Though he fights as much as the other ducks, if there is a non-violent solution, he'll quickly go this route.
  • Invulnerable Knuckles: Pain is not an illusion when you punch through metal robots with your bare hands. Then again, he never actually breaks his hands doing so.
  • Mighty Glacier: Grin can be a bit slow to get going, but packs a hell of a punch once he does.
  • The Stoic: The hardest to shake up, aside from Wildwing.
  • Super-Strength: Grin's grabbed Siege (who weighs 1500 pounds according to design sheets) and spun him around by his tail before tossing him on more than one occasion.

Canard Thunderbeak

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/canard_mask.jpg
Canard wearing the mask.
Voiced by: Townsend Coleman, Humberto Solórzano (Latin Spanish), Jorge Lucas (Brazilian Portuguese)

Canard was the best friend of Wildwing Flashblade and the original leader of the Mighty Ducks, who found the Mask of Drake DuCaine and put the team together. He performed a Heroic Sacrifice in the pilot episode and saved the ship from a Saurian attack. Before his sacrifice, Canard passed the Mask onto Wildwing. Wildwing believes that he is still alive and trapped in dimensional limbo.

  • The Ace: Before the invasion of Puckworld, Canard was the best student at Wildwing's school and also a star athelete. He's also apparently quickly rose through the ranks in the resistance and became a squad leader.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Canard is set up to be the hero of the story but is (presumably) killed off at the end of the first episode. Wildwing takes over from there, which makes sense considering Canard isn't visible in the opening credits.
  • Fate Worse than Death: He is trapped in the Dimensional Limbo, a Void Between the Worlds.
  • Hero of Another Story: After the invasion, Canard joined up with the Resistance and went on an epic adventure to find the tomb of Drake DuCaine and recover his mask.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The Saurians released an electric worm which would have devoured the ship. Canard sacrificed his life to lure the worm away from the ship.
  • He's Just Hiding: Wildwing believes that his friend is still alive. Chameleon later took advantage of Wildwing's guilt and created a fake distress call from Canard to lure him into a trap.
  • The Leader: He's the one who found the Mask of Drake DuCaine, assembled the team, and destroyed Dragaunus' fortress.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Without Canard, the ducks would've never defeated Dragaunus or escaped to Earth.
  • Uncertain Doom: No one really knows what happened to Canard after he sacrificed himself in Limbo; while Wildwing thinks he's still alive, the rest of the team appear to believe that he's dead, or at least gone forever. The show ended before we could ever find out the truth.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: He's Wildwing's biggest supporter and happily passes the mantle of team captain.

Allies

Phil Palmfeather

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Phil_Palmfeather_7073.jpg
Voiced by: James Belushi, Philippe Ogouz (French), Jesse Conde (Latin Spanish), Alfredo Martins (Brazilian Portuguese)

The ducks' manager when they play hockey.

  • Alliterative Name: Kind of. His first name begins with a soft "P" that sounds like "F", while his surname starts with a hard "P".
  • Catchphrase: "Boobala!"
  • Dub Name Change : He's Phil Poidsplume in French.
  • Future Badass: After the Ducks are offered the choice of going home and leaving the Earth to the Saurians, a version of Phil from the post-apocalyptic future that choice would've created showed up and saved their tailfeathers.
  • Greed: As the Mighty Ducks' agent, he does everything he can to milk and capitalize on the team franchise. Then again, they are hockey-loving alien ducks.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Totally out to make a profit above all else, but he still wants the Ducks to save the world, and was even nice enough to take them in at the start of the show.
  • Large Ham: Very prone to overreacting in the most dramatic manner possible.
  • The Load: Fairly useless in combat situations, and usually puts the Ducks through all sorts of crazy publicity stunts.
  • Manchurian Agent: Becomes one to Wraith in the episode "Phil in the Blank."
  • Mr. Vice Guy: Phil avoids being completely unsympathetic in that, while he has an obvious greed issue, it never completely outweighs his few good qualities and sense of morality.
  • Non-Action Guy: Quite happy to let the Ducks do all the fighting.
  • Skewed Priorities: In his opinion, saving the world is less important than the team's PR-schedules.

    Villains

Lord Dragaunus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Dragaunus_1657.jpg
Voiced by: Tim Curry, Pierre Hatet (French), Gerardo Reyero (Latin Spanish), Jorgeh Ramos (Brazilian Portuguese)

Leader of the Saurians, Dragaunus is evil incarnate. He doesn't take kindly to the failures of his cronies. Most of Dragaunus' schemes involve trying to create an alternative fuel source for his flagship, The Raptor.

  • Big Bad: There are other villains, but he's the one the Ducks fight against the most.
  • Bad Boss: Often abuses his troops when he's in a bad mood. Which is pretty often.
  • Big "NO!": Gives one about every episode, usually when the ducks foil his latest scheme.
  • The Chessmaster: He's a very capable strategist and manipulator.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Smoke even comes out of his nostrils whenever he's really angry, though we never see him actually breathe fire.
  • Emperor Scientist: His predecessors were Sorcerous Overlords, but his methods of world conquest are purely tech, from massive laser cannons to DNA accelerators.
  • Evil Is Hammy: What else did you expect from Tim Curry voicing a cartoon villain?
  • Evil Overlord: His title per the show is "last of the Saurian overlords".
  • Evil Gloating: He gleefully does this to Wildwing in the second episode over Canard's death and the loss of the Mask.
  • Faux Affably Evil: When he's not being abusive to his troops, he can be fairly civil to those he's trying to con.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He's sometimes set off even faster than Siege, and usually blows up hunter drones left and right once he is.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In the first episode, when he assumed the Mask of Drake DuCaine was lost in limbo, he ended up giving Wildwing the confidence to finally put it on.
  • Shoulders of Doom: Crossed with Spikes of Villainy.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Like so many other villains in animated/family oriented shows of the time, Dragaunus has to put up with his henchmen who are either too pessimistic, too arrogant or just plain too stupid to help his plans succeed. This reaches the point where he almost considers hiring new helpers.
  • Take Over the World: His ultimate plan was to conquer Puckworld. His plans changed when he became stranded on Earth.
  • Team Rocket Wins: The series opens with Dragaunus' forces invading Puckworld and taking over the planet. Unfortunately for him, it went downhill from there.

Wraith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mighty_Ducks_Wraith_8107.jpg
Voiced by: Tony Jay, Marc de Georgi (French), Paco Mauri (Latin Spanish), Pietro Mário (Brazilian Portuguese)

A Saurian warlock with a very dry sense of humor. He shuns weapons in battle, preferring to use magically conjured fireballs, and often tries to convince his comrades of the advantages of their ancestral powers. He is very glum, often predicting failure. Of course, he is usually right.

  • Affably Evil: Tends to be just a bit more polite/softly spoken than his boss.
  • The Cassandra: For all his accurate predictions, none of the other Saurians ever listen to him.
  • Co-Dragons: Shares the role of The Dragon with Siege.
  • Court Mage: Serves as Dragaunus' advisor, and is usually the one pointing out all the flaws in his plans.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Just about everything he says is sarcastic.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Looks even more draconic than his boss, closest to an Eastern dragon. He doesn't breathe fire, but he does toss fireballs around.
  • Dub Name Change : He's Spectrus in French.
  • Evil Genius: Probably the most intelligent Saurian aside from Dragaunus himself, or at least the most rational.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Uses the dark powers of his ancestors in battle, and can easily control the weak-minded with his spells.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He is voiced by Tony Jay after all.
  • Horns of Villainy: Has a set of twisted horns curling upward from the sides of his head.
  • In the Hood: A standard Wizard Classic brimmed hat wouldn't fit due to his horns, so he wears a close-fitting one of these instead.
  • Irony: Interestingly, he's savvy enough to know almost exactly when the Saurians are going to be defeated every episode.
  • Magic Staff: Carries one of these around, it has a duck skull impaled on the upper end.
  • Playing with Fire: Loves to lob fireballs at his opponents, and he used a sword made entirely out of fire in the pilot.
  • Power Floats: He can levitate himself and other objects with his powers.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: While the other Saurians' eyes are usually some shade of yellow or green, Wraith's are red, likely a mark of his dedication to Black Magic.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Robe, yes; hat, not so much.
  • Skull for a Head: His face has a skull-like appearance.
  • Sour Supporter: A rare villainous version; for all his gloomy predictions he goes along with Dragaunus's plans anyway.
  • Squishy Wizard: He prefers to fight with magic, not hand to hand.

Siege

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mighty_Ducks_Siege_2312.jpg
Voiced by: Clancy Brown, Patrick Messe (French), Blas García (Latin Spanish), Luiz Brandão (Brazilian Portuguese)

A hulking, saurian soldier who is aggressive and has a strong hatred for the Ducks. He can also be viewed as Dragaunus' second in command.

Chameleon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mighty_Ducks_Chameleon_8802.jpg
Voiced by: Frank Welker, Patrice Dozier (French), Arturo Mercado (Latin Spanish), Orlando Drummond (Brazilian Portuguese)

A shapeshifter with the ability to increase or decrease his strength, size and dexterity depending on his transformations. Most of the time, he ends up wasting his powers a lot by doing corny impressions of human celebrities.
