The Jitsu Squad

    Hero Yamagiwa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hero_41.png
The Shinobi

A shinobi assassin cursed by Origami into becoming a tanuki, Hero is a Shinobi and Ninpo Master armed with the Sakura Katana. After his clan was massacred in the past, with his father killed by a traitor now allied with Origami, Hero joins the Jitsu Squad to seek revenge.

  • Anime Hair: A huge mohawk that looks like something out of Dragon Ball.
  • Arch-Enemy: Towards Dash Kobayashi, the traitor who killed his father.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: He wears an ear-ring... on his right ear.
  • Flaming Sword: One of Hero's secondary weapons is this.
  • Handwraps of Awesome: His fists, knuckles and wrists are all wrapped in bandages, while leaving his fingers bare.
  • The Hero: He's the main character of the game. It's right even in his name!
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Well, this hero named Hero prefers his trusty katana, but that works.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Unlike the rest of the gang, Hero's beef is against Origami's henchman, Dash Kobayashi, because Dash used to be Hero's partner in his ninja clan until the former's Face–Heel Turn. Also, Dash is the villain who killed Hero's father, making their vendetta personal.
  • Jack of All Stats: Have above-average stats in attacks, defense, health, a really good option for first-time players.
  • Master Swordsman: Wields an awesome katana called the Sakura Blade, and is a pro using it to slice and dice through enemies.
  • Meaningful Name: "Yamagiwa" means "mountain ridge", which his Anime Hair bears some resemblance to.
  • Named Weapons: His trusty katana is called the Sakura Blade.
  • Primary-Color Champion: Blue ninja outfit with a flowing red scarf.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: His red scarf waves around him stylishly throughout his battles, and no, it doesn't get in the way when Hero's executing special moves on enemies.
  • Sole Survivor: He's the last surviving member of his clan after a violent massacre initiated by Origami, led by his former comrade Dash Kobayashi no less.
  • Sword Beam: His Hanami technique allows him to manifest crescent-shaped projectiles from his katana.
  • Tanuki: He's cursed into becoming a humanoid tanuki, but retains his fighting skills.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: On his right forehead.
  • You Killed My Father: The reason behind his vengeance towards Dash.

    Baby O'Hara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baby_9.PNG
The Vengeful Cyber Ninja

A kunoichi turned into a rabbit, who, much like Hero, joins the Squad to avenge her deceased loved ones, in this case her sister. She carries twin kunais and an umbrella as her weapon.

  • Animal Motif: Butterflies.
  • Batter Up!: One of her combo strings lets her don a batter's outfit and launch baseballs at enemies.
  • Cyber Ninja: It's in her name, though it seems more like an Informed Attribute; she doesn't have any remotely cybernetic appearance on her.
  • Dual Wielding: Uses twin kunai in combat.
  • Flash Step: She has a special move that instantly allows her to travel from one end of the screen to another.
  • Flechette Storm: Baby's power-ups allows her to fling what seems like twenty knives into enemies right in front of her. And her flung projectiles can even be upgraded into sai for good measure.
  • Fragile Speedster: Attacks with lightning speed, but doesn't deal as much damage as her teammates.
  • Gatling Good: This is Baby's character-specific Limit Break, Vulcan Assault. When used, she summons a caterpillar that shoots at enemies with the two mini guns mounted on it. The player can control where it shoots.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Granted, all Jitsu Squad members have projectile attacks, but for Baby? At least 80% of her moves are long-ranged, owing to her seemingly endless supply of throwing knives and various secondary weapons. Then you have Vulcan Assault.
  • Hammerspace: Besides her unlimited supply of throwing knives, one of Baby's special moves have her pulling out a cannon from out of nowhere to fire upon her enemies.
  • Instant Costume Change: Most of her attacks have her don a unique costume while doing the move. She even does it for her victory pose.
  • Killer Rabbit: She's an adorable, fluffy and cuddly rabbit... and kicks all sorts of ass like no tomorrow.
  • Kunoichi: Unlike Hero the ninja.
  • The Lancer: The second-most-prominent character in the game after Hero, the, uh, The Hero.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: She can pull a missile launcher from her arsenal of weapons and spam a wave of rockets at every onscreen foe.
  • Meaningful Appearance: The fastest member of the team is the one who gets turned into a rabbit. Coincidence?
  • Named Weapons: Her twin kunai, the Usagi. Appropriately enough, "Usagi" means "rabbits" and guess what Baby transforms into?
  • Parasol of Pain: Her second weapon? Her trusty umbrella. It can also turn into a...
  • Parasol Parachute: While jumping, Baby can execute a special attack that have her drawing out her umbrella and flipping it open. This allows her to float around for a while.
  • Sinister Scythe: For some reason, one of Baby's outfits is a cosplay of The Grim Reaper. Which allows her to hurl a number of scythes taller than her into enemies.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She is the only female member of the titular squad.
  • This Is a Drill: She can produce a drill while in mid-air, and send it downwards into enemies underneath her for extra damage.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: One of Baby's secondary weapons lets her dispense several Cartoon Bombs, not unlike the blue Emaki mooks.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Unlike her fellow male Jitsu Squad members, Baby's special attacks allows her to change through a whole series of different ninja outfits and colourful attires, all within the span of a few short seconds, before returning to her default attire.

    Jazz Amun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jazz.PNG
The Magic Kung-Fu Master

Formerly a member of the Black Lotus, Holy Priests standing in the way of evil. The takeover of Origami cursed him into a frog, though he retains his fighting skills and magic abilities. And then he found out his ex-comrade is now a servant of the forces of chaos.

  • An Ice Person: Charging his elemental attack briefly lets him shoot out ice that freezes enemies in its path.
  • '80s Hair: For some reason, Jazz sports a massive Afro, a hairstyle no other character (not even enemy bosses and mooks) have.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Save for briefly turning the Ishtar into a spear (see below), you ,might notice Jazz is the only Jitsu Squad member who fights with a blunt weapon, relying mostly on his fists and kicks. And he's absolutely no less dangerous than his fellow squadmates.
  • Barefoot Cartoon Animal: Oddly enough, Jazz forgoes shoes, even though the rest of the Squad averts this trope.
  • Bewitched Amphibians: Partially, the curse transforms him into a humanoid frog.
  • Carry a Big Stick: His preferred weapon is a mace called the "Ishtar", which doubles as a pipe. His victory pose would have him smoking the Ishtar.
  • Double Jump: Owing to his transformation as a frog, Jazz can jump twice while in mid-air. It's useful for avoiding projectiles and getting him out of tricky situations.
  • Frog Men: While the rest of the Jitsu Squad are cursed into becoming mammals, Jazz on the other hand becomes a frog.
  • Frog Ninja: Close enough, he's a Warrior Monk-frog lifted from a feudal Japanese setting.
  • Funny Bruce Lee Noises: Most of his non-magical attacks have him yelling these.
  • Hurricane Kick: One of his melee moves executed without weapons, which have Jazz swooping his foot in circles knocking down everything in his way.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: His Flame of Amun is a fire projectile he shoots from his hand, while his fully charged elemental attack is a solid beam of lightning. It becomes a more straightforward Kamehameha-esque attack during Fury Charge.
  • Magic Knight: He's a wizard priest and a very capable fighter.
  • Morph Weapon: One of his special moves can turn the Ishtar from a club to a guandao for slicing up mooks. It turns back into a club moments later however.
  • Named Weapons: His golden pipe-slash-cudgel, the "Ishtar".
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: That... afro, again. The rest of the Jitsu Squad are transformed into mammals as a result of their curse, but Jazz is an amphibian.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Like every frog-human characters out there. He even uses it for grabbing enemies, and during cutscenes to grab objects.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He's much smaller than the rest of the squad thanks to turning into a frog rather than a mammal, but that doesn't mean he can't kick ass all the way despite his size.
  • Playing with Fire: Flame of Amun, his special attack, has him hurling fireballs.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: During Fury Charge, his normal attack string turns into this.
  • Shock and Awe: By bringing the Ishtar down on enemies, each of Jazz's hits are accompanied by a powerful electric bolt. He can also shoot a concentrated beam of lightning from his hand if he charges his elemental attack all the way.
  • Warrior Monk: A holy man, who beats the hell out of demons and assorted monsters.

    Aros Helgason

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aros.PNG
The Dragon Slayer

A Viking warrior who gained reputation in his homeland ever since he slayed a dragon in his youth, Aros was unfortunately caught in Origami's curse and transformed into a warthog. Recruited into the Jitsu Squad, Aros fights not only to lift the curse inflicted upon himself, but also to satisfy his bloodlust.

  • Air Guitar: Aros' victory pose has him playing an imaginary guitar... with his BFS. He also does this pose as he's activating Teranis Inferno.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Lose an arm fighting a dragon years ago, which have his missing appendage replaced by a metal limb.
  • Artificial Limbs: His metal left hand which can double as a Power Fist in battles.
  • Arm Cannon: One of Aros' secondary weapons turns his metal arm into a gatling cannon.
  • The Berserker: Like every good Viking out there, Aros enjoys nothing more than a brutal brawl and gets really, really excited at the prospect of hacking up enemies to bits.
  • The Big Guy: The largest of the four playable heroes, and the strongest.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Outside of gameplay when Aros isn't busy kicking ass or spilling blood, he seems to enjoy chilling out with his Jitsu Squad teammates, excitedly rushing into an arcade with them and trading banters and quips with his fellow warriors.
  • BFS: His two-handed claymore sword is taller than any other members of the Jitsu Squad, and among the heroes his weapon's certainly largest in size. But then again he's the strongest of the bunch, and wields the weapon with ease.
  • Braids of Barbarism: He wears his long, shaggy blond hair in this fashion, which remains on him even after he's turned into a warthog-man.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: Largest and strongest of the team, and swings a BFS.
  • Ground Pound: His special move, which launches Aros high into the air before sending him down as his fist hits the ground... easily knocking over every onscreen enemy (even airborne mooks!) and causing damage to all their health.
  • Horn Attack: Aros can do this using either his tusks or his horned viking helmet, as a melee move without weapons.
  • Horny Vikings: The only member of the Jitsu Squad who's a Viking, and he's got the horned helmet to complete that look.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Despite his size, Aros can pull off quite some quick, impressive moves, especially when dishing out numerous slashes and stabs on his enemies.
  • Named Weapons: His claymore is given the name, "Balder".
  • Never Bareheaded: His horned helmet always stays on regardless how many fights he gets into, or whenever he gets thrown around by boss enemies.
  • Pig Man: Thanks to being cursed by Origami, which turns Aros into a warthog-man.
  • Red Baron: He's given the title of "The Dragon Slayer" because of his past deeds.
  • Shoryuken: His uppercut move.
  • Suplex Finisher: Once Aros managed to execute a grabbing move on his enemies, he'll execute a suplex and smash them over his head, right into the ground, which can kill lower-level Emaki mooks instantly.
  • Sword Plant: Aros' special attack have him planting Balder into the ground, which releases a powerful shockwave in front of him leveling every enemy on the wrong side.
  • Token White: He's the only member of the squad who appears to be white, being a Viking instead of a warrior from the Far East.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: His throw is a suplex and one of his aerial moves is a body slam.

    Ramen The Wise Monk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/owl.PNG
"With the Kusanagi stone hidden in a place where no one can find it, I can rest my head and end the story, by wishing you a good night."

A noble monk transformed into an owl-man as result of Origami's curse, but retaining his senses, Ramen managed to rescue four other heroes, Hero, Baby, Jazz and Aros, and recruit their assistance to overthrow Origami. Now known as the Jitsu Squad, the quartet embarks on their quest to defeat Origami and his underlings.

  • Bird People: Befitting an owl-man.
  • Distressed Dude: He gets abducted by Shade halfway through the game, requiring the Jitsu Squad to rescue him.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: After the final battle, with the Jitsu Squad victorious and banishing Origami back to the netherworld where he came from, Ramen then fixes the Kusanagi stone and tells his students, he will hide it "in a place where no one can ever find it again". And where's the hiding place? As a lampshade in Ramen's bedroom.
  • Magic Staff: His enchanted scepter, shaped like a golden oriental dragon.
  • Old Master: A senior monk who have seen plenty of action in his youth.
  • The Mentor: He's the benefactor, savior, and trainer to the Jitsu Squad.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: Wisest among the heroes, appropriately enough turning into an owl as result of Origami's curse.

Villains and Bosses

    Origami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/origami.PNG
"I am Origami, Destroyer of Worlds, Lord of Darkness..."

An evil sorcerer seeking to awaken the demon inside the Kusanagi stone and unlock it's powers, Origami is the leader of the Emaki ninja clan and sends his underlings across the lands seeking the stone for him.

  • Attack of the Monster Appendage: One of Origami's most frequent attacks have him stabbing his fingers into the ground, causing multiple tentacles to sprout from the floor and skewer the heroes.
  • Background Boss: The Final Boss fight have Origami's giant face in the background, and his hands attacking the Jitsu Squad up front. And Dash thrown in to impede the heroes to complicate things further.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of the picture, an Evil Wizard seeking the powerful Kusanagi stone for unlimited power and universal conquest.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The Final Boss battle where the Jitsu Squad takes on Origami and Dash gives off this vibe. Dash is roughly the same height as Hero, while Origami is a monster who occupies the entire background.
  • Boss Tease: He appears as early as the second stage, Neon Boulevard, to kill the Yakuzo leader (by exploding him alive) and taunt the Jitsu Squad by sending them to Hero's ruined village. But the squad don't get to fight him just yet - instead, they fight his lackey, Dash (who survives the first battle) and the game continues for a few more stages before they can confront Origami in his lair, the Realm of Rogue.
  • Dual Boss: The final battle, with Origami attacking the Jitsu Squad from the background while up in front, his dragon Dash Kobayashi repeatedly tries to hold the heroes down.
  • Evil Is Bigger: The main villain and largest boss in the game? Sure.
  • Eye Beams: Can fire a really thick energy bolt from the eye in the middle of his forehead, large enough to cover most of the screen.
  • Fire and Brimstone Hell: His domain, the Realm of Rogue, certainly resembles a burning hellscape with demons left and right.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: An evil demon sorceror named... Origami. What.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: In his final form, he's a demonic Oni-like mask with two gigantic floating hands which he'll use to attack the Jitsu Squad.
  • HP to 1: His giant laser automatically reduces any character it hits to 1 health point.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: He's an oni sorcerer demon... robot?
  • Robotic Reveal: Deal enough damage on Origami in the final battle will cause his mask to crack apart, revealing his interiors to be... robotic?
  • Third Eye: Has one in his forehead, without pupils.
  • Too Many Mouths: As revealed in the final battle, his hands have extra mouths in them. Which can spit fireballs.
  • Unrealistic Black Hole: After his defeat, a black hole then appears in the middle of the boss arena to suck Origami in for good.
  • You Have Failed Me: What he did to the Yakuzo leader in Neon Boulevard, exploding him alive for failing to stop the Jitsu Squad.

    Dash Kobayashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dash_1.jpg
"Time to die... in boiling hot magma!"

A former member of Hero's clan, Dash defected to support Origami, betraying his former allies and killing his mentor, which happens to be Hero's father. Now a leading enforcer to Lord Origami and one of the villain's most trusted minions, Dash will do everything to impress his boss by repeatedly menacing the heroes.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Hero, as Dash is the traitor who killed Hero's father in the past.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The Final Boss battle where the Jitsu Squad takes on Origami and Dash gives off this vibe. Dash is roughly the same height as Hero, while Origami is a monster who occupies the entire background.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: When the Jitsu Squad confronts him during the first boss fight:
Hero: You betrayed our clan and killed my father!
Dash: Boohoo, still whining after so many centuries? You never understood the way of the ninja!
  • Chase Fight: His second boss fight is a Lava Surfing battle as he tries pursuing the Jitsu Squad while they're escaping Infernia, all of them on shields atop rivers of lava. Sadly he can't be kicked into the lava, for some reason.
  • Dual Boss: The Final Boss battle is a massive tag-team combat where Dash will constantly back up his master, Lord Origami, repeatedly getting into the Jitsu Squad's ways while Origami tries pounding them into a pulp.
  • The Dragon: Lord Origami's second-in-command. That said...
    • It's Personal with the Dragon: Hero's vendetta isn't towards Origami, but Dash, the perpetrator who killed Hero's father and wiped out his own clan.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Dash, the swordsmen of the Jitsu Squad, both of them highly-competent swordfighters using identical weapons and special moves, but on different sides.
  • Evil Gloating: He lets out a pretty chilling one before his first boss fight, while taunting the Jitsu Squad in the middle of a destroyed village. Specifically, towards Hero, since it's Hero's hometown that's being razed to the ground.
Dash: [evil laughter resonating across the background] I though you would be happy to see me! Don't you appreciate the fireworks I created?
  • Flash Step: He repeatedly uses this ability to side-step all over the place, in all three of his boss fights. Even the Lava Surfing stage, where Dash's surfboard will magically move to where he'll side-step next.
  • Foul Fox: Like every other villain, Dash turns into an animal-person after joining Origami. Being the worst of the lot, Dash gets transformed into an albino fox and is Origami's most prominent henchmen.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Unlike Hero who gets an "X"-shaped scar on his forehead, Dash on the other hand gets a straight one on his snout.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: He tends to quickly draw and then sheathe his sword, and one of his attacks is the trademark quick draw slash.
  • Master Swordsman: The direct rival to Hero and a katana-user as well, and he puts up one hell of a fight with it during all three of his boss fights.
  • Mirror Match: If the player is using Hero, then the fight plays out as such.
  • Recurring Boss: Dash needs to be fought thrice during the game:
    • At the end of Neon Boulevard, after Origami transports the Jitsu Squad to Hero's destroyed hometown in an attempt to taunt them, Dash then reveals himself to mock Hero over his past. Cue boss battle.
    • While escaping Infernia, the Jitsu Squad - currently Lava Surfing on shields - is suddenly ambushed by Dash, who survived his initial encounter. The second fight is much trickier due to the surfing being automated and the presence of obstacles along the way.
    • In the final stage, after the Jitsu Squad defeats Shade, Dash suddenly appears to execute Shade over her failure. And then Lord Origami appears in person, and Dash becomes the second half of the final battle's Dual Boss fight.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Since he's an albino fox with red markings on his face, and wears an assortment of red and black robes on him. And he's easily the most ruthless of Origami's numerous minions, enjoying his job a little way too much.
  • Sword Beam: Just like Hero, though Dash's sword-beams are green instead of blue, taller than himself and travels along the ground instead of a crescent shape flying through the air.
  • Unexplained Recovery: He somehow survives falling into a pool of lava. Though in all fairness, the impact isn't shown - the screen flashes white after Dash gets hit the last time during that Lava Surfing duel.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Shade failed her second attempt at subduing the Jitsu Squad, Dash then bisects her vertically.
Dash: You have failed us, Shade.

    Balthazar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/balthazar.PNG
"Don't yer know I was voted Most Sexy Pirate of the Year? I'll eat you for dinner!"

A rhino pirate captain serving Origami and the boss of Pirate Bay.

  • Acrofatic: He's grossly overweight, but it doesn't stop him from executing some flashy moves on the Jitsu Squad, moving quickly and jumping here and there around the ship throughout battle.
  • Anchors Away: His preferred weapon is a massive anchor he uses like a club.
  • British Teeth: The cutscene that introduces Balthazar has a Gross-Up Close-Up on him... and good grief, his teeth are horrible.
  • The Brute: Among the villains, Balthazar's largest in size and serves as their muscle.
  • Cigar Chomper: He's chewing on a big, fat cigar during his intro cutscene. In the subsequent boss battle, he's holding that same cigar on one hand, that he smokes in quick breaks between attacking the heroes.
  • Exposed Animal Bellybutton: On his flabby, bulging girth which his clothing couldn't cover due to how overweight he is.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Aros, both of them being the largest member of their team, being based on horned animals and preferring using brute strength in combat. They're both marine buccaneers as well – Balthazar being a pirate while Aros is a Viking. Though it's downplayed that Aros is clearly a more competent fighter and Lightning Bruiser compared to Balthazar.
    • Actually lampshaded by Aros at the start of Pirate Bay:
Aros: Pirates! Don't make me laugh! We Vikings are the true rulers of the seas!
  • Grappling-Hook Gun: His anchor can double as a grappling-hook launcher, which allows Balthazar to swing around the arena in battle.
  • Horn Attack: Another move Balthazar can pull off if he's within range, by using his horns to snatch and fling the heroes into the air.
  • Kevlard: His stomach fat allows him to tank multiple blows before he goes down.
  • Making a Splash: Somehow his anchors can create tidal waves upon impact, sending a wall of water directly at the heroes. Jump to avoid damage!
  • Rhino Rampage: Goes without saying, being a rhino-man boss in an action game.
  • Seadog Peg Leg: His right leg is one, befitting his status as a pirate captain.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: His legs are seriously tiny compared to the rest of his huge body. He doesn't even spend most of his boss fight walking, but instead just bounces around.

    Raven

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raven_3.PNG
"Long time no see Jazz, I can see you're still a bit green."

The sorcerer overlord of Castle Hellstorm and a former member of the Black Lotus, who defected to serve Origami for more power.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Jazz, as both of them are wizards on different sides.
  • Bird People: A raven-man after joining Origami's forces.
  • Creepy Crows: Is it a surprise that a raven-themed sorcerer named "Raven" is a villain?
  • Crosshair Aware: One of Raven's attacks have him creating magic seals on the ground, from which the draconic head of some unknown monster will stick out and chomp at the surface. Don't step on the portals!
  • Death from Above: Raven's most powerful attack have him summoning burning skulls that rains into the boss area. The Jitsu Squad can parry these projectiles by swinging their weapons like crazy though.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": A raven-man named Raven, though he already had that name as a human prior to joining Origami.
  • Evil Wizard: The Evil Counterpart to the good wizard, Jazz. Both of them used to serve the lawful Black Lotus Order, until Raven decides to defect for more power.
  • Magic Staff: Carries one with a blue orb on it's tip, which he will repeatedly use to cast deadly attacking spells during his boss battle. Either summoning fireballs, or opening portals for monsters to emerge from, or revive more zombies, or firing bolts of lightning..
  • Necromancer: He can cast spells raising the dead, reviving skeletons and zombies in the graveyard outside Castle Hellstorm to menace the Jitsu Squad. And when confronted in the penultimate battle, Raven will summon extra zombies to assist him.
  • Power Floats: How he moves around during his boss fight. And no, it isn't because Raven is a raven-man, his wings aren't even flapping as he hovers all over the area.
  • Shock and Awe: Occasionally Raven will fire a thunderbolt from his staff.
  • Sorcerous Overlord: One who rules over the undead population of Castle Hellstorm and the surrounding graveyard, though this one is subserviant to the true main villain, Origami.
  • Throne Room Throwdown: As he is the lord of Castle Hellstorm, the Jitsu Squad's penultimate confrontation with Raven is in his throne room.

    Viper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viper.PNG
"I wasssssss expecting you, Jitsssssssu Sssssssssquad..." note

A powerful snake-woman ruling over Infernia.

  • Bishōnen Line: Viper can alternate between her default snake-woman form and appearing as a humanoid form, though with reptilian skin, a forked tongue and serpentine features.
  • Breath Weapon: Viper has two versions in her default form, a poisonous green orb that's otherwise rather slow-moving, and a thick green energy blast that covers a big chunk of the screen.
  • Cranial Eruption: After defeating her, in the following cutscene Viper have a visible round bump on her head.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": How lovely, another one, being a snake-woman named Viper. Though it's subverted with her appearance looking more like a cobra.
  • Hand Blast: In her second, serpent-humanoid form, Viper can fire a green beam from her fingers.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite her name, Viper doesn't look much like a viper, and instead resembles a cobra.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: Viper has visible boobs in both her forms, despite being a snake-person. In her first form she even inflates her chest before performing her spitting attack – at which point her boobies enlarges until it becomes larger than the player characters.

  • Rolling Attack: One of her frequently-used attacks have her turning into a spiked wheel to tackle the heroes.
  • Sickly Green Glow: Viper's beam attacks - all of them - radiates with a green toxic glow.

  • Snakes Are Sinister: Goes without saying, since she's a snake-woman named Viper and one of the villains.
  • Snake People: She's a snake-woman whose default form is having her lower body being a powerful snake-tail. She can change into a more humanoid form with legs, but still maintain serpentine features on her like having scaly skin and a forked tongue.
  • Sssssnake Talk: How she speaks. Baby mocks her for it.
Viper: You are looking for the Kusssssssssanagi Sssssssstone, are you not? Massster Origami ordered me to dessssstroy you. Thissss issss where your quesssssst ends.
    Baby: Whatever you ssssssay misssssssss.
  • Tail Slap: Using her lower tail while in her default snake-woman form. Though she doesn't do this much, preferring to use projectiles and long-ranged attacks instead.
  • Taking You with Me: After the Jitsu Squad defeats her, Viper then attempts to blow up herself. While name-dropping the trope, no less.
Viper: If I'm gonna die, I'm taking you with me! I'll blow this cave to bits!
  • Teleport Spam: In her serpentine-humanoid form, Viper can port all over the place making her difficult to hit.

    Frost

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frost.PNG

The white tiger-human who rules the wastelands of Frosthaw Fortress.

    Slayer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slayer.PNG

  • Bee People: A humanoid bee-woman and the den mother of her hive.
  • Deadly Disc: She can release a powerful energy disc as a ranged attack.
  • Instrument of Murder: In her second form, Slayer turns her poleax into a guitar which can fire projectiles.
  • Teleport Spam: Her second form grants her the ability to port all over the place, similar to Viper's. Except Slayer can fly, which makes hitting her even more difficult.
  • To Serve Man: Although not stated in-game, look closely in the background when Slayer fights the Jitsu Squad. Her lair contains several half-devoured corpses of the stage's recurring cavemen mooks, many with their bones exposed, and caught in the beeswax adorning her lair. Which have bee larvae crawling all over them. And her pre-battle quote have her saying, "My children are always hungry..."

    Shade

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shade.PNG
"Leave it all to me, Your Highness. I'll destroy them... one. by. one. "

The other dragon serving Origami, an elite shadow assassin tasked with preventing the Jitsu Squad from reaching her master after Origami had abducted the Squad's mentor, Ramen.

  • Dark Action Girl: A dangerous henchwoman serving Origami.
  • Dark Is Evil: Her outfit is as dark as the night, fitting her status one of the most powerful villains.
  • Deadly Euphemism: She lets out one of these when the Jitsu Squad - en route to Ramen's rescue - confronts her.
Hero: What have you done with Master Ramen?
Shade: Don't worry, our Lord Origami will take good care of him.

  • Evil Counterpart: To Baby among the Jitsu Squad. Both of them are the sole female characters of their team and uses two weapons at the same time, are Fragile Speedsters when it comes to direct combat, but they're on different sides.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: How Dash kills her after her second and last failure - vertically.
  • Hold the Line: Her original objective - to prevent the Jitsu Squad from reaching Origami and Dash. She failed both times, and Dash decides not to give her a third.
  • Living Shadow: She appears to be a being made of shadow that can shapeshift at will.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Because she fights exclusively by transforming into the other boss characters, Shade is the only boss in the game (besides Origami himself) who lacks a Fury Charge.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Subverted — Shade herself is smaller than even some of the Jitsu Squad, but her ability to transform into the other bosses allows her to become more imposing. She's also the penultimate boss of the game, and no slouch to be sure.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her blades glows with powerful purple energy, and she's one of the last - as well as hardest - bosses in the game.
  • Recurring Boss: She is fought twice in the game, both her battles playing out roughly the same way.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: She bails after the Jitsu Squad defeat her the first time, for a second rematch one stage later.
Shade: You will pay for this!
  • White Mask of Doom: She wears a red-and-white mask similar to those worn in Japanese omote theatres, which seems to be stuck on her face forever.
  • You Have Failed Me: Was eliminated by Dash Kobayashi, mere seconds after the Jitsu Squad bested her in battle. Dash even name-drops the trope, nearly word-for-word.
