"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow about adding a subversion for Star Trek: Debt of Honor? The Klingon planet-killing disruptor is a Chekhov's Gun, but when it actually comes time to firing it, that honor goes to Mr. Riley rather than Chekov (despite Chekov's bridge position also doubling as the tactical/weapons console).
Hide / Show RepliesAre you remembering the h in Chekhov?
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerWhy is this namespaced under Main rather than Just for Fun?
Hide / Show RepliesTo preserve the joke (since it's based on a common spelling error when someone tries to link to Chekhov's Gun).
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerMetal Armor Dragonar mention: There's a Lt. Chekov, and he spends a lot of his time with a gun.
WHAT ARE YOU, SOME KIND OF POKEMON VOODOO PRIEST?Since there's a new Star Trek movie coming out, the line "Averted in the latest film" (under the "Film" header) should probably be changed to read "Averted in the reboot film", since the 2009 Trek reboot won't be the "latest" film for much longer.
If this page weren't locked, I'd make that edit myself.
Hide / Show RepliesYou can request edits to locked pages here. I'll do so for you.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I think this needs a Homestuck example, i.e.:
-Stated to appear in Homestuck, but it's hard to tell.
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodYou could add the new Fright Night under Film, since Anton Yelchin uses all kinds of weapons against vampires except guns.
I don't get the joke :(. I'm going back to playing mornington crescent.
Hide / Show RepliesI do, but it would be tedious and pointless to do so, so I won't.
I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me.Let's mention it being averted in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann while we're at it, just for more fun.
It turns out I've been misspelling Chekhov all this time. I wondered who vandalized the page. :P
Actually a girl.I should point out that this is _very_ heavily averted in 'Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit': On the Set - Part 1 (2005).
Hide / Show RepliesI think it's very heavily averted in every work that doesn't have Chekov and doesn't have a gun. In anything else, it can be no more than regularly averted. And there's too many of the former to bother listing each one. :)
The aversion of this trope is Older Than Print! :)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. We could add an entry for Literature, China Mielville's Kraken has the rare non-Star Trek Chekov's Gun with the magi-tech phaser. Neither an aversion nor a subversion, possibly playing with.
You know the comment that it was subverted in the latest film should really note that Chekov carried a sword instead of a gun :)
Hide / Show RepliesShould Ivan Checkov from The Boondock Saints be listed? He does in fact carry a gun but is killed pretty quickly at the start of the story.
Your favorite inspirational quote hereI don't quite understand this "trope". Can someone enlighten me as to what would constitute a proper potholing of it?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Hide / Show Repliesprobably never, since it's not really a trope
Now Bloggier than ever before! Is it or is it not an example of Family-Friendly Firearms? If it is, why hasn't a sysop added the fact that it is?
Hide / Show RepliesOh, I get it, it links back to Ray Gun, which in turn links back to FFF. Problem solved; sorry for bothering.
Can somebody please correct the link to the actress whose Chekov interpretations are unbeaten? It's broken and I can't fix it.
I understand why it's been locked, but I agree with the opinion expressed in the archived discussion that the Shakespeare pothole currently linking to Older Than Steam should link to the Zeroth Law instead.
I object to this being locked. As a Just for Fun page, I felt that there would be no problem having a wick to my oversized Troper Work here (it is relevant, as this trope is on the list of tropes therein, albeit as an aversion), only to find that I can't.
Q: What Pokémon is good at treating colds? A: Cyn-Day-Quil® Hide / Show RepliesIt is locked to protect it from being cut or turned into a redirect to Chekhov's Gun by certain completely humour-averse Tropers, who have tried to do so many times in the past.
Edited by girlyboyYeah. The same person kept either blanking it, making it a redirect, or putting it on the Cut List despite literally everyone else who cared to comment saying it should stay as a Just for Fun page. Hell, he kept it up even after the admins stepped in to undo his edits.
I'm not upset about it - the way the page is now is funny and there's not much to add. I'd rather not see the joke get run into the ground.
Support stupid freshness, yo.
