Find a Trope:
openGuilt Dissonance
Character feels crushing guilt over something that isn't that important and/or feels no remorse over something he should feel guilty for.
For instance, Bob is kept awake at night by the thought that decades ago, he forgot to return a library book and his stomach churns just thinking of all the readers who were told the book wasn't available and left empty-handed, all because of him returning a book three days late. Meanwhile, Al once set fire to a building and killed fifteen people, but feels so little guilt over it that he has to be reminded that it happened (or worse, he remembers it as a happy memory).

Edited by BubblepigopenMuseum Area Videogame
Is there a trope for bonus areas in video games that acts as a physical gallery where you can freely look at most of the game's content, such as enemies, models, concept art, etc.? The Museum and the enemy gallery from Bioshock and Yoshi's Island DS respectively come to mind.
openFace Plastered Everywhere
A character keeps seeing a surge of things that suddenly remind them of a person or thing.
For example, Peter in the second spiderman movie started to see Mary Jane's face plastered all over the city after his heart gets broken. A bunch of X's start to sneakily pop up in Scott's (from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) life.
openPaying for the sins of your own family member? Live Action TV
What is the trope where the family begins to pay for the sins for the family member? Let's the perpetrator committed *Insert Horrible Crime Here* and the family of the perpetrator gets harassed horribly by the community even on the internet. What is the name of the trope?
openCreative place
A character does creative work best in a specific location, such as in their office with the door shut or at a specific table in their favorite coffeeshop. They may find themselves unable to write, draw, or compose at all in a different spot.
openNoSell? Or something more specific? Trying to decrease a stat at 0.
No-Sell? Or something more specific? Trying to decrease a stat at 0.
For example, if an attack only attacks the "Armor" stat. But a character doesn't have any more of that to deplete, is it No-Sell, or some more specific trope?
Note to self. VideoGame.Gems Of War: Spider Queen.
Edited by Maladyopenslideshow cutscene Videogame
Is there a trope for when the cutscenes in a game are basically slide shows? Example: In Strife all of the cutscenes are a series of still pictures (resembling comic book panels), while one of the characters narrates.
openSexual Appeasing
A male character is comforting a female character after she went on a emotional rampage on her cheating boyfriend. Suddenly, the latter starts to caress and kiss the male character , signaling to him that she wants to have sex. Though reluctant and aware she's vulnerable giving the circumstances but understands why she wants to have sex, the male character nonetheless decides to appease her to avoid upsetting her further.
Edited by JC96openX for Y name Film
Hello, recently watching a lot of documentaries I realize a weird trend, especially on 00s documentaries of having a "Xing for Y" name (Bowling for Columbine, Waiting for Superman, Searching for Sugar Man), and also in older movies such as "F for Fake" or even "Dial M for Murder"?
Is there a trope related to this title? Could this be a trope?
openTransitional Afterlife
Is there a trope that describes an afterlife that isn't eternal, with souls eventually passing on to a truly unknown state after enough time passes? There's hints of this in The Book of Life and Coco, with the dead eventually being forgotten and departing from the afterlife, and in The Good Place as a counter to the problems with endless paradise.
openKeysmash trope?
Is there a trope for characters talking in keysmash (IE random letters like 'IJSNIJNWS@#MEIJNSIJN#@@' that look like someone waved their hand over their keyboard) or anything similar
openAlter-Ego's Heel-Face Turn
This character, who's a Mr. Vice Guy at best, uses an masked alter-ego to exact revenge on those deserving of it. However, due to outside interference and also the character being a Mr. Vice Guy, the alter-ego itself undergoes a heel-face turn.
openEmpathy
I know we have The Empath, but can that trope be used for empathic characters as well as characters with emotion-based superpowers? And do we have a trope for characters that are empathetic to a fault?
openCan't stand being disliked
Not sure if this is too close to I Just Want to Be Loved but, a character who needs to be on everyone's good side. Will probably be well-liked by most of the cast, but if there's one character who doesn't like them they'll go crazy trying to get into their good graces.
Example:
- In New Girl, Jess reconnects with an ex who parted on bad terms with her in an earlier season. She calls, texts, and emails him to try and put things right until he ends up taking a restraining order out against her.
openScream of Doom
The Famous Last Words for many individuals, usually villains, who are about to meet their end. It is a much more vocal version of Oh, Crap!. It can also accompany a Big "NO!".
Edited by MHarringtonopenNo Title
Was cleaning up The Black God's Drums and came across this example:
- Expy: the "Drapeto Gas", a reference to the pseudoscientific theory of "Drapetomania" widespread in the confederate States of America in the 19th century
It's not Expy, but is there another trope that covers this?
This character joined the army not because of typical patriotism but because of the benefits. The character is not greedy or anything but he came from a middle class family and wants to make sure he's in a better place and is aware of the risks in pursuit of the benefits.
