Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

The page needs to be indexed though.

Got another candidate.

What's the Work?

Galaxy War, Galaxy War X, and Galaxy War: Bitter Alliance is a Web Original trilogy thats set in the far future, in which an alien race called the Xians find a space colony that once belonged to the human race and occupy it themselves, in which they establish themselves as a spacefaring race. One such traveler named Nondel Populas goes on a journey to rescue his friend, Simui, who has been captured by a being who doesn't mean well for the Xian race...

Who is Deth and What Has He Done?

Deth is an alien warlord who has conquered a third of the galaxy and enslaved the populace under his control. His crimes include of 117 counts of robbery, 144 counts of grand robbery, 762 counts of war crimes, 1191 counts of evading arrest, 4 counts of genocide, 546 counts of property damage, 3 counts of slave trading, and 340 counts of first degree murder. He sets his sights on the homeworld of the Xians, simply called "X", in which he has his right-hand man, Mnson, capture Simui to lure Nondel into a trap to capture him as well, as Deth recognizes that Nondel has inside knowledge of "X's" security systems and thus wants to interrogate him first.

However, Nondel manages to rescue Simui at Deth's base, aptly called Deth's Fortress. Furious and losing all sense and reason, Deth tries to kill them and, when he's defeated by Nondel, takes the only escape pod left and orders Deth's Fortress to explode and kill Nondel and Simui out of spite. Unfortunately, Deth decides to conquer "X" through other means, specifically demanding their surrender and threatening to use a superweapon called an Armageddon Laser on the planet, in which case it will be destroyed. He sends a message to Nondel demonstrating its power on a moon and gives him 24 hours to unconditionally surrender or have his planet destroyed, the exact same time needed for the laser to charge up and destroy "X."

Just as Deth's spaceships fly into place for this plan, a battle ensues between the Xian military and Deth's own forces, in which Deth, upon second thought, decides to not outright destroy the planet, but rather unleash enough power to decimate all life on "X" and turn the planet into a "strip planet," a place to acquire more resources for his empire. Since the Armageddon Laser no longer needs to be at full power to wipe out all life on "X," this greatly shortens the charge time from a full day to merely a couple of hours. Nondel, with the help of his friend Xslav Incorr, raid Deth's ships to try to deactivate the Armageddon Laser, but their efforts are largely fruitless. When Deth finally encounters Nondel, he taunts him about how his planet will be destroyed and, upon grabbing him, decides to make him watch, but Xslav manages to deactivate the laser in the nick of time. With his plan foiled and Nondel having escaped his grasp, he orders his forces to directly combat the Xians' remaining military anyways, resulting in the deaths of thousands. Ultimately, the Xians are victorious and Deth is forced to flee.

Eight months later, he arranges a meeting with Nondel, in which he reveals that another empire led by an alien raced called the Klayos have taken over most of his territory, so he's now proposing a truce to help fend off the invaders. With the Xians' military completely destroyed after Deth's invasion, Nondel reluctantly accepts.

Since the trilogy is dead, this is where the story ends.

Does He Have Any Mitigating Qualities or Freudian Excuse?

The only reason why he agrees to a truce with the Xians is out of self-preservation, in which he knows that he's toast if he were to face the Klayos alone. In fact, during his meeting with Nandel, he tells him that he would kill him right there and then if he didn't have to need his help. In other words, his truce is hardly mitigating. No Freudian Excuse either to justify his actions.

Does He Meet the Heinousness Standard?

On top of all of the war crimes associated with his conquests, I'd say attempting to wipe out all life on a planet is just enough to pass the heinousness standard, especially since he's the only real antagonist here. Msnon is just a servant to him and the Klayos race have no crimes associated to them aside from conquering Deth's territory, so they can't really compete with Deth.

Final Verdict?

Writeup for Himmler #6:

The Monlith Deatcult: Heinrich Himmler is the Reichsführer-SS of Nazi Germany, and the focus of the song The Furious Gods. His interests are in the occult and in the genocide of all he considers untermenchen, and gleefully combines these two. Aside from his historical role in The Holocaust, he also seeks to use black magic to turn his Waffen-SS into Doom Troops and Super Soldiers, and to combine technology and nuclear physics to build a bomb even more devastating than nuclear weapons. Obsessed with purity to a terrifying degree, nothing will stop Himmler from pursuing his genocidal campaigns.

First time writing one; did I do well?

BTW, I honestly thought you were proposing death itself. Has any version of Death counted (Won't be surprised if not)?

@Kappa Not a bad first effort, but we generally have the people who submit the EP do the write-up. And I'm holding off on that until I make a page for The Monolith Deathcult.

I got us a cut from Kamen Rider W: Shinkuro Isaka.

  • Kamen Rider Double:
    • Shinkuro Isaka/Weather Dopant is a depraved fetishist and a self-admitted Psycho for Hire defined by his high-functioning psychopathy and insatiable hunger for power. Originally Shroud's first disciple and a Straw Nihilist who found meaning in life upon witnessing the Terror Dopant attacking a group of people, Isaka used his Gaia Memory to become a serial murderer before permanently joining The Museum, with Terui's family being among his victims. Protected from the negative effects of repeatedly using a Gaia Memory by his own sick mind and confessing to using his lover as a tool to satisfy his paraphilia and further his plans, Isaka distributes other Gaia Memories and modifies them to kill their users, once intentionally killing a father in front of his daughter to cause her to develop a PTSD, intending on using her fear to become even more powerful and kill his superior to take the Terror Memory for himself.

Isaka is a vile, hateable piece of work, but he has a redeeming quality the writeup is trying to downplay. "[C]onfessing to using his lover as a tool to satisfy his paraphilia and further his plans" is a flat lie: moments before he's Killed Off for Real, Isaka and Saeko (said lover of his and the initial Big Bad's daughter) confesses he's genuinely fallen in love with Saeko. He treats her as a partner for most of the series, but after she joins him on his plan to kill Saeko's father, he admits he's befuddled by the new feelings he has toward Saeko and requests that Saeko show him her true self the next time he comes back (as opposed to her monstrous Dopant form, which up until now he seems to have preferred her in).

Unless there's something I'm really missing behind the dots here, nothing at all dispels this redeeming quality for Isaka as he's killed before he can interact with Saeko again and there's plenty of contextual evidence to back up his feelings for her being sincere. He needs to go.

Sure cut Isaka.

I'd like to reserve Mashin Sentai Kiramager for someone who looks rather promising here.

Cut and while I try not to get too critical of people in the thread especially lately...can people please just be fully honest in their EP's? We keep seeing this where a redeeming quality is "accidently" left out of the EP or the heinousness is highly exaggerated to further the chances of them getting in and then we have to remove them like weeks later and it's really harmful for this thread's credibility. This isn't a compeition for which users can get the most characters in, it would be nice if we could trust that every EP is fully accurate

Isaka got grandfathered in. Same with a lot of Kamen rider and super senatai villains. Both franchises have been around for decades so we didn't need to ep everyone.

[up] Even if this particular case wasn't a recent EP it's still been a noticeable problem
