Thread current status:
It has been agreed by crowner to merge the Light Novel/ namespace into Literature/.
LightNovel namespace index -- excludes redirects
It has been agreed by crowner that Light Novel examples are to be sorted on trope pages as follows:
- If you're adding an example with LN in mind, place it in Literature.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, but unsure if it was present in LN, place it in Anime/Manga.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, but know it also happened in the source, place in in Literature.
- If you're adding an example from an Anime/Manga, and sure it did not happen in the source, place it in Anime/Manga even if the work is already listed in Literature.
- If you're moving an example, for example when renaming or handling redirects, and don't know much about other versions, instead just leave it where it was.
- If you know all versions of the work, move examples to the medium they're first featured in.
- Webcomic examples with adaptation go to either Webcomics or Anime/Manga following the above logic.
- Web Serial Novel are still Literature.
- There is to be no dedicated Light Novel folder or subpage on trope pages.
Edge case rulings:
- Due to extreme differences with the original Web Serial Novel, Overlord (2012) will be the hub page for the Overlord Light Novel and its adaptations. Overlord 2010 will cover the WSN.
Original post below.
This has now come up twice in Ask The Tropers in the past year that I know of.The issue is pretty straightforward: where do we put examples from Light Novels on trope pages?
General options previously proposed:
- Put them in Anime and Manga since they're commonly adapted into them.
- Base things on the original medium, and group them with Literature.
- Take a Third Option and create a Light Novel folder.
Points about this media space that are commonly raised:
- The manga and especially anime adaptations tend to be more available and more familiar to the Western audiences that comprise most tropers.
- The adaptations into manga and anime are usually very faithful Compressed Adaptations, so most trope examples apply to all versions.
ETA: Related issue that came up:
- Should the Light Novel namespace be merged into Literature?
Here's a link to pages that are in the LightNovel/ namespace.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsAs to Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, please note it's the rare LN that has a Franchise/ page since it has associated works in Literature, Anime (for a Non-Serial Movie), and VideoGame namespaces. As a result, I think some wicks should migrate to Franchise/ rather than Literature/.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaPOSSIBLY. Though FWIW, I only redirected the Light Novel namespace to Literature; others...I don't know.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsThat's more of a concern for Short-term Projects than us TBF.
I've moved all the pages starting with A, and the Naruto Hiden books.
Ukrainian Red CrossI've moved the reviews of A Certain Magical Index, Danganronpa Zero, Date A Live, No Game No Life, Shakugan no Shana, Slayers, and Sword Art Online to the Literature/ namespace
The pages for Spice and Wolf and Magical Girl Raising Project have been moved and their wicks changed.
~ ♪ I know I’m playing with your heart / And I could treat you better but I’m not that smart ♪ ~So, from my last check, we're now at 248, and only 1 "W" left.
Meaning a bit less than 5 a day is our current average? And most of the completed are the harder ones? So we could maybe finish this in a month?

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I started on B yesterday and finished today.
I also moved Lightnovel/BleachCannotFearYourOwnWorld to Literature/BleachCantFearYourOwnWorld, since there was a custom title changing 'cannot to can't'' and we're not supposed to use the title customiser to change words.
Ukrainian Red CrossC has been moved.
Ukrainian Red CrossJust curious. I didn't read all the posts here, but should those examples on a page like this Anime & Manga where the base part is listed as Light Novel, these should be shifted into the Literature page as they aren't going to be under the umbrella of Anime, even if there is an adaptation of it as an Anime?
There's a sticky at the top that explains this. We go by the medium the example originated in. For example, there are Curb-Stomp Battle examples for The Asterisk War on both the Literature and Anime/Manga subpages, because there's a particular instance that's anime-only due to a filler episode.
If in doubt, default to Literature.
Woo! 199 Light Novel works left!
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I just noticed Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! being mod moved. I just need to warn that the wick moving requires people who have both read the novel and watched the anime to properly perform. I have no clue if the petitioner is capable of that or not.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaJust to leave a record here: Clancy Gardener has been going a lot of wick moves today, however, they did not move the media categories. This is particularly egregious in subpaged tropes, where Literature examples appears in Anime subpages without justification. Notifier has been given.

Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaQuestion, if a Light Novel has a redirect (for its alternate title, for example), should that redirect be converted to Literature/ as well?
Creepypasta cleanup got two major pages for JTK and SlenderRedirects (or pages) can't be converted, you just make a new redirect in Literature/ with alt title, and cut LN/ redirect if inbounds allow it.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI read 'convert' as 'move'. Yes, they should be moved to Literature/ as well. If there's page history attached, you can request that to be moved.
LightNovel.Hazure Skill has a big chunk of "Not to be confused with" at its end about other "Hazure Skill"-s. When we move it, should we give it a longer title so it doesn't seem like it has priority over others?
What does Hazure Skill even mean?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Is there anything better to move it to? The alternate title is too long to fit.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Digging through a bunch of online dictionaries and translators, "hazure 外れ" seems to mean "outlier" or "edge case" in this instance. "Skill" is just the English loan word "sukiru スキル", "skill", so it's "outlier skill" — reflecting the MC becoming OP by creatively using an ostensibly cruddy RPG Mechanics 'Verse skill to become a Lethal Joke Character (c.f. Hajime in Arifureta).
I think I would be inclined to just drop the "not to be confused with" mess until and unless somebody actually makes a page for the other works, which from what I've been able to find out on My Anime List seem to Follow the Leader to this one. Currently only the Mapping one has an official English translation, as Mapping: The Trash-Tier Skill That Got Me Into a Top-Tier Party.

Since I realized I didn't specifically address it: maybe Hazure Skill: The Guild Member with a Worthless Skill... would work?
I don't know the work but I think that's fine.
Found LightNovel.Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia while wick cleaning, this page was cut while its manga was kept according to Administrivia. The Content Policy. Since the namespace is deprecated and it's unlikely that a Literature/ page will get made either, what should be done with its wicks? Change the namespace to Manga/, remove them, or maybe something else?

You might want to add anything needing its wicks to be moved to Administrivia.Wick Namespace Migration.
