Needs Help (Alt names crowner 25 September 2021): Administrivia.Needs Wiki Magic Love

So, remember when we moved the page to Administrivia to prevent new users from adding it to pages? It's not working.

We'll need an outright rename in order to make it clear that it's an index. Maybe Pages Needing Wiki Magic Help? I'm open to other ideas.

I think Pages Needing Wiki Magic should be the closest to indicate this is for multiple issues while still not being a phrase someone would link to. It's already a redirect, so that's something.

I agree, so I think Pages Needing Wiki Magic works as a title.

Also, if it matters, the Wiki Magic page was merged with the TV Tropes Glossary fairly recently, so any wicks on Needs Wiki Magic Love (or whatever we end up calling it) should link to the Glossary if that's not already done. (I probably already did that when I was cleaning up Wiki Magic's wicks; I don't remember because I only kept track of which pages I had gone through while I was still in the process of dewicking.)

Edit: Also, Pages Needing Tropes sounds too close to Pages Needing Wicks and Tropes Needing Examples (mostly the former), and it doesn't cover issues that aren't related to the amount of tropes listed (such as description issues or problems with how the trope examples are written).

To moving to Pages Needing Wiki Magic, and I'd go further in saying we should PRLC NWML to discourage any further misuse, even as a redirect. Main/ already is in the PRLC, but it's clear that users still tack it on under the Administrivia namespace.

Adding Administrivia.Needs Wiki Magic Love to the Permanent Red Link Club might not be a bad idea due to all the bad wicks it inherited from the old Main/ location.

The same could probably also be said of the Administrivia.Needs Wiki Magic redirect, which is the only redirect other than Administrivia.Pages Needing Wiki Magic.

Rename, don't leave a redirect. (Or in principle we could use that old "redlink even though the page exists" trick, if that even still exists, but it feels like it's not really a thing anymore.)

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

I think fake red links still exist, and the problem is just that they have a tendency to randomly turn blue. Main.This Troper was back to being a fake red link after the 1.8 update a few years ago, but then it randomly turned blue again.

This Troper is blue because folks thought that adding a redirect was a good idea. It wasn't and that's why sometimes it's proper to diverge from the normal structure of pages.

I don't think it will work; I think editors will start adding "This is one of many Pages Needing Wiki Magic" or simply potholing the page. The problem here is the same as finding "under construction" labels on the wiki. Some editors seem to think that it is acceptable to label articles that are not in the Sandbox/ namespace as "unfinished".

Which is really hard to crack down on, unless we keep track of every new page made and get every pagemaker to stop making stubs and the like.

That said, the rename certainly couldn't hurt. The less memorable it is to type, the less and less people are going to bother with including it.

Something like List Of Pages That Need More Wiki Magic is pointlessly long and not super easy to remember, but in this case that'd be the point.

I think the suggested name should probably be enough. I haven't really seen much use of other such indexes getting wicked on works (Works Needing Tropes has two, Pages Needing an Entry Pimp has three, Pages Needing Images has one work and two character pages). The only real concern seems to be with Needs A Better Description, which follows the soon-deprecated title pattern and we can rename it as well (but that one's kind of a snag since it's also a tlp message).

We've had times when pages with titles like "List of X" things seem to be considered annoying, List of Badass Tropes used to be such a case (like here and here). At the same time I do see the concern (wouldn't object to renaming to that if even this rename doesn't succeed).

I can go along with that, but I'd also prefer to say why the pages need help. I've found several that had an adequate description, sufficient tropes and indexes, and context for the examples. The only thing missing was "more" love/help. Moving away from a name that implies "pimp this page" is what I'd really like to see from this thread.

Pages That Need Attention?

For every low there is a high.

We already have plenty of indexes that name the specific problems with pages listed on them (lack of examples, lack of example context, bad description, etc.), so is there even anything Needs Wiki Magic Love is supposed to bring attention to that isn't covered by any of the other indexes that were brought up in this thread?

If there are any problems covered by this index but not other indexes, we could make separate pages for said problems and cut Needs Wiki Magic Love entirely.

In principle, NWML is the super-index for all those other indices, as well as holding pages which have multiple issues simultaneously.
