So Bad It's Horrible Cleanup

This was added to Horrible.Asian Animation:

• How to Train a Dragon Warrior (Or Battle of the Dragon Warriors when translating the Thai text below the English title) is what happens when a company best known for their dubs of popular North American and Japanese media for their country in Thailand attempts to animate their own version of Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon without any understanding of what made the original great in the first place. Even if one willingly accepts their art style being subpar in terms of looks because of their location, every other aspect of this film fails in comparison to the Dreamworks film/series or even the original book series. The plot focuses on the idea of everyone in the land that they live in having a dragon of their own and competing as dragon warriors in colosseum battles, except for the cleverly named H (the annoying ripoff of Hiccup), who doesn't have one himself. As such, H and his friend Sand (the ripoff of Fishlegs that's mostly useless in this film) look to find a dragon for H to have, which H eventually finds with a baby Toothless-looking dragon named Arcana (who literally looks like a small Toothless, only with parentheses on his forehead) right around a dead skeleton of a dragon that's later revealed to be its mother. Arcana then magically evolves into a more grown-up version of itself a few minutes later due to the moonlight hitting its body (as sort of foreshadowed by cave paintings that H found), which leads to H trying (and mostly failing) to train in a weird night-to-day transition at hand. Once the training concluded, they find a princess that escaped from the generic villain of the film named Darkfire, which then turns into a generic villain tries to take over the land, defeating all of the other dragon warriors along the way, only for H and Arcana to save the day in the end with a magic amulet from the princess that contained the warrior spirit of Arcana's mother at hand. For a film released in 2011, the animation shown is very awkward and horribly stilted, with audio sometimes mixed to have two different pieces of audio playing at the same time at points like what you'd sometimes find in a Dingo Pictures film and a story line that jumps all over the place in terms of tone and mood (the ending of the story has a Downer Ending moment with Arcana likely dying from the final battle and likely having his spirit in the amulet either instead or alongside his mother with H lamenting over his loss and hoping to see Arcana again someday... all while cheerful, joyous music plays over it). To give a general idea on how obscure this film is, it has no Wikipedia entry, no IMDb entry, and while the entire film was once uploaded onto both YouTube and Dailymotion in its entirety with translations in mind, very few people ever watched it while it was on those website, as both links have since been taken down by TIGA Entertainment, the same company that made the film in the first place. In fact, if it weren't for the likes of blameitonjorge (who covered it as the third-worst Dreamworks ripoff film in his video with PhantomStrider in 2017) and Saberspark (who covered it five years later initially with his friend Rishi on a live stream of the film with them trying to figure out what the plot was without proper translations around before making a video talking about it, with him noting that no Thai person was willing to translate the film even for monetary gains and then saying it probably should be best left that way), it's likely this film would be forgotten about by the Internet completely.

Aside from being super-long due to having a way too-detailed plot summary, I'm concerned about if we can really judge this or not. Now it has more than one review cited when I was initially worried the entry was made solely because of Saberspark's video, but as pointed out in the info from the cited Saberspark video, there is no English translation. Is it really fair game if we're judging a movie we can't understand?

I don't think lack of translation should be enough to disqualify something from being horrible. Foreigners can have opinions on media, too. The entry could still do with a trim and touch-up, as you said.

Came for the tropes, stayed for the cleanup.

Well, yeah, but it's hard to judge the quality of a thing you don't understand. There could be redeeming factors hiding behind a different language. It's not always likely but it's still possible.

Over at the Real Life section clean up thread we've been talking about The Alleged Car and its two Real Life subpages and I mentioned that the So Bad It's Horrible main page considered it a subpage of SBIH. That, combined with the other RL section considered a subpage, Crappy Carnival, being fairly redundant with the "Rides" subpage on the main SBIH, we were wondering if there really ought to be SBIH pages for Vehicles and merging Crappy Carnival's RL in with the Rides SBIH page, then making The Alleged Car and Crappy Carnival NRLEP. What do you guys think about it?

i would think, since we're effectively just moving the restriction from Horrible to Alleged Car, the best thing to do would be just port the page over wholesale, although since it's PRLC i guess we'd need mod approval for that.

Recently added to the "Authors" folder on Horrible.Literature:

• Richard Brittain was a former champion on the UK game show Countdown and author of the self-published book The World Rose. His book is considered dull, full of superfluous wording of a fuchsia hue, and the characters within are bland Mary Sues, particularly the main female character. It has an average review score of 1.72 on Goodreads with 350+ ratings and 100 reviews. What elevates Richard to this position, however, is his actions surrounding his one published novel - first of all, the main character of the novel was purposefully based on a woman he had stalked from his university days who wanted nothing to do with him, even giving the character the same name. In order to get publicity for his novel, he tracked his stalking victim down again and planned to fake her kidnapping (unsurprisingly, she not only declined but was disturbed that Brittain had managed to track her down) whilst writing a detailed blog post about this plan titled The Benevolent Stalker. He also attacked a young woman by driving several hundred miles to the shop she worked at, and smashing a wine bottle over her head when she reviewed the book on Goodreads and found it less than stellar. He received 30 months in jail for this stunt and a permanent restraining order but, when released from prison, proceeded to track down the woman again and send her multiple messages and a hand-written letter proclaiming her his "Scottish Thistle" and declaring "nothing was real except their love.".

This entry is problematic because it's less about the book itself and more about Brittain's actions (it's a page for horrible literature, not horrible people). I could see the book getting an entry in the "Standalone Examples" folder, but trimming down this one would leave us with one sentence about the book. Should we just cut it for now?

honestly, i think with the context that his actions lend to the awfulness of the book, it is relevant, but the entry as written focuses on it way too much.

That's fair — the stalking does tie into the book's awfulness, and the assault is infamous enough to warrant a mention. Though I still think the entry needs to be moved to the "Standalone Examples" folder unless this guy wrote more than one horrible book.

I think i made this entry in the music covers section, and i don't like it:

• Salvare98's cover of "Kouon Chuu On'iki Test" is absolutely terrible. Not only does the dude fail at even the easiest parts of the song, he also has an annoying nasally voice that will grate on your ears.

It's based off of a guy that's just trying to have fun while doing karaoke and there's little to no detail in the entry itself. He's a bit off key but other than that i think what i based this off of was google translating the comments to see what the reception was after i saw the dislike count. Is it time to cut it?

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

That was quite bad, but it mostly just comes off a someone trying to have some innocent fun more than anything else. Unless they're selling it for actual money, I'd say cut. I see no value in ridiculing such an obscure video otherwise.

Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 has entries in both Video Games and Horrible/Music. The entry in the former seems to mention the music as the main complaint. Should the former be cut?

Finally someone is brave enough to say what I've been too nervous to say for months in fear of being wrong. My stepmom has Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 as one of her Dreamcast games. Maybe I don't have a trained eye, but the music is the only thing that seemed Horrible to me, as it didn't appear to work like a Porting Disaster and on the contrary, outside of audio, appeared to work just fine. We were both really shocked when I saw it was listed as Horrible.

if you ever have concerns, please bring them up. they might be misplaced, but that's neither a sin nor a crime. we can't fix problems if no one tells us about them, and these threads only work if we use them.

since it sounds like the games themselves aren't Horrible, to cutting from that page and just leaving the entry for the OST.

I can indeed add that based on YouTube comments I just read, in the eyes of people who played it, Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 appears to be gameplay/being a decent retro compilation-wise considered So Okay, It's Average, while the soundtrack is an easy fit for Horrible.
