So Bad It's Horrible Cleanup

• The Dual Shock version of Resident Evil features the "Mansion Basement" theme, which sounds like somebody randomly banging the white keys on a cheap Casio (or midi controller) set to "horn." The first note tries to be atmospheric, but it's too awkward to be effective and the rest of the song immediately degenerates into total and utter stupidity.^note  This is mostly because of either bad instrument choices or a MIDI programming error, as the track actually sounds decent when ported to more fitting instruments. And keep in mind, much like the converter that turns MP3s into Sad Cena MIDIs, that remix seems to assume there was only one track. It's so awful that it's caused people to perceive the otherwise-alright replacement soundtrack it's part of to be much worse than it actually is. When it was revealed that credited composer Mamoru Samuragochi, believed to be the Japanese Beethoven as he claimed to be deaf, was a fraud whose so-called work, including this soundtrack, was largely ghostwritten, it predictably resulted in jokes that this particular song was the only one he had written himself. The song has gained memetic infamy as the soundtrack to Nightmare Retardant, with Two Best Friends Play famously comparing it to "clowns farting in the basement".
• Yoshi's New Island gained notereity almost immediately after release for cursing players' ears with the atrocity known as The Yoshi Clan during the last part of its intro sequence. While the title screen theme was already widely disliked in general, it at least had the makings of a good song there and had some redeeming value. All of that goes out the window for this piece: the entire song consists of very little except completely off-key kazoo noises that only hardly seem coherently strung together, and adding insult to injury is that just when the song gets some much needed extra instrumentation, it ends. It doesn't fit the scene it's used in either, as it backs a Shot-for-Shot Remake of the Yoshis discovering the newly fallen Baby Mario from the original game, which used a completely different string-heavy tune that was more befitting to a sense of discovery.

Wouldn’t something being funny for how bad it is disqualify it from the trope since this for works that are so awful you can’t even enjoy them ironically?

Not necessarily.

It's a debate that keeps popping up. Right now the consensus is that So Bad, It's Good isn't mutually exclusive.

...That said, I just noticed the other day that the actual description for So Bad, It's Horrible says that So Bad, It's Good doesn't count. So, idk.

Perhaps I can take it to the Laconic thread.

Let's figure it out here first before we do that.

That too. I usually skip over the actual description in favor of examples and getting the gist of the trope from the Laconic.

I uh wouldn't do that. As laconics for tropes are infamous for being inaccurate often.

Yeah, you really probably shouldn't do that. Laconics are notoriously unreliable in a lot of cases.

I checked the Advertising page but at the moment nobody added the latest Coke commercial.

I haven't watched it yet, but I've seen mixed commentaries about it.

"Mixed commentaries" = not SBIH. I don't even know the commercial you're talking about.

Yeah, gonna need a synopsis or something. Even then, if it's mixed, it's not horrible.

I think this is the Coke ad getting referred to. I'm... not sure if it qualifies, actually. That dislike ratio is terrible, at least. Edit 2: rewatched a few times, might be changing my mind on the personal side. This might be one of the most baffling and misguided ads I've ever seen.

Edit 3 (which isn't actually the 3rd edit as I'm tweaking so much, sorry): the linked website points to the ad being a teaser for something on the 11th. Probably won't change anything but we should wait until then at least.

I feel so weird for constantly tweaking my above post that I'll make a new one to describe the ad. The ad is called "One Coke Away From Each Other - Real Magic" and it takes place at the esports competition for some World of Warcraft wannabe. This kid is playing as an orc. He's doing bad, so he drinks a Coke and the Coke causes the orc to magically throw his weapon to the ground and end the fight in favor of PEACE and the game characters stop fighting. Cue shots of streamers and the public in awe to heartwarming music. Pretty much what happens when Glurge, Narm, and Were Still Relevant Dammit happen at the exact same time. Looking at both YouTube and Twitter I see no praise or "mixed reactions", so I'm now for its inclusion. We should wait though.

Oh, so it's Pepsi all over again. But with Video Games, which severely minimizes the Unfortunate Implications.

Yeah, actually, the fact that it's a video game makes it hard for me to see what the big deal is. Though I guess if the overall reaction is negative enough it could still count.

Yeah, I was happier before I learnt that ad existed.

I still don't get it. Also it's not Were Still Relevant Dammit at all, unless your thought is "Coca Cola existed before videogames so they should pretend they don't exist".

Yeah that ad is bad and the dislike ratio checks out. I’m in favor of adding. One what do fictional orcs turning good have to do with Coca Cola or video games?

Unable to watch the ad right now but that concept sounds like pure stupid Narm hilarity. I don't know if it's SBIH cuz it sounds amusingly stupid, and not even offensive like the Pepsi one. Are the graphics even particularly bad?

The visuals are ok but that’s about it.

If we kept Grub Hub off the page for visual adequacy then that would keep this one off the page too.

I feel like we are way too lenient with allowing ads in particular to be SBIH just cuz they get backlash for being cringe, even if the technical execution is decent.

I just watched it, and it's really really stupid, but I personally feel like it's too silly and over-the-top to be mad at. Bad? Yeah. Horrible? Not in my personal opinion, but that's just my opinion.

What weakens it is, like I said, the fact that it's about a video game. There's no real-world context to really get mad at it, it's just stupid.

It's dumb, it rips off Warcraft and is making a very ill-informed reach for gamers... but it doesn't qualify for horrible. It may be a very misguided ad for the company^note  a brand with the saturation of Coca-Cola doesn't benefit from bad publicity; it needs to craft a public image that makes its products appealing, and looking like it doesn't understand the young of today gives it the worst possible image but it's technically well made and it has unintended cringe comedy. It may belong under So Bad, It's Good, but not Horrible.
