Edit: I've created the index. So far I've added only those pages that have mandatory waiting periods already in effect.
It's been brought up in a few places recently (most notably in this ATT thread) that we have a few tropes / Audience Reactions / etc. that have mandatory waiting periods before being added. The suggestion has been made— which I tend to agree with— that some sort of index to keep track of which tropes have waiting periods and what those periods are would be helpful.
Besides what's already on the index, we've got:
- Specific Mandatory Waiting Period Suggested:
- Critical Dissonance - Brought up here as being too early to call on release weekend. Fighteer suggests a one-month mandatory waiting period on all similar "reception tropes."
- Overshadowed by Controversy - a 6-month mandatory waiting period has been suggested but not agreed upon yet
- The Scrappy - Due to its close association with Base-Breaking Character and its status as a complaining magnet, has been suggested for a 6-month waiting period in this thread.
- No specific waiting period has been suggested, but adding it too early has caused problems:
- Eight Deadly Words - It was suggested here that the below should apply to this as well
- So Bad, It's Good - Fighteer noted here that the weekend of release was too early to apply tropes like these
- So Okay, It's Average - see above
Template tag for work pages:
%% Per Administrivia/NoRecentExamplesPlease, do not add [Trope] until [X] months/days/weeks after the episode's release (Month Date, Year).
Use this date calculator to add the amount of months/days/weeks in accordance to No Recent Examples, Please!.
- As mentioned here, the consensus is that NREP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.

- Win The Crowd
- To say a lot of fans are excited for this game is an understatement. The reveal of Dread has been met with near-universal acclaim and hype, and considering the enormous Sequel Gap between this and Fusion, Dread had some big shoes to fill, particularly after the production restart of the much-desired Metroid Prime 4 hugely delayed the release of the only other game in the franchise announced. Thankfully, all the previews indicate it's doing so with ease, and the October release date means fans don't have to wait long before they can play it.
- In a way, the situation with Metroid Dread is the complete polar opposite of Metroid Prime: Federation Force. While both games were revealed in the middle of a drought of new Metroid games (Federation Force 5 years after Metroid: Other M and Dread 4 years after Metroid: Samus Returns), Federation Force was a spin-off with an unorthodox visual style and multiplayer focus (everything fans did not want back then) releasing at the absolute worst possible time. By contrast, Dread was revealed to be the much anticipated sequel to Metroid Fusion that fans have been waiting 19 years for, and once again marks a return to the traditional 2D exploration focused gameplay fans want out of the series.
I'm not sure if a reveal can count for this, as Win The Crowd is when the first few minutes of a work convinces the audience. Also, the second example is natter and just exists as a potshot to Federation Force.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! That sounds more like a misplaced And the Fandom Rejoiced example.
We've been discussing a potential No Recent Examples, Please! declaration for The Dictatorship of 20 years after the regime falls over in the NRLEP thread. Should this be put to the crowner?

Question, does Tier Induced Scrappy have a waiting period by the notion of being a The Scrappy subtrope? I was gonna add an example but the character only got released a month ago.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. My argument has been that all subtropes should have at minimum the same NRLEP/NREP status as the parent trope (as examples of the subtrope must by definition be examples of the parent trope,) but I've run into resistance there.
However, Tier Induced Scrappy is so far removed from The Scrappy at this point that I can't really even call it a subtrope.
While we're here, let's get the boring maintenance stuff out of the way.
- Vindicated by History now requires a five-year wait (9:4)
- Dork Age is at 7:2; Role Reprise is at 5:2. Neither have reached 10 votes yet. I'll make an ATT announcement to try to get them more votes.
New crowner; please do not hook it until Dork Age and Role Reprise have been called. Deadline for those two is going to be July 17.
What exactly is the rationale for adding a time limit to Role Reprise? I've gone back through the thread and couldn't see it.
Yeah, it's not really a subjective thing if an actor revisits an old role...
It's because the same actor playing the same character in works released close together is chairs.
Posting this comment to make public that I voted up for Dork Age and Role Reprise.
135 - 161 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Any consensus for adding a Fallen Creator time gate?
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesIt's Darth, it's locked, I don't know if we need a waiting period on top of that as those seem like enough options to curb complaining.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I would like to discuss a potential wait time for EndOfAnAge.Real Life as per this ATT. How long do you think we should wait until we can add more recent examples to it?
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.5 years? I believe that's what we have for Franchise Killer.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I've added it to the crowner.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I would like to add Insult to Rocks to the crowner.
I propose prohibiting examples made to living politicians.
Kirby is awesome.Bump
Any amendments to Insult to Rocks before I add to the crowner?

Kirby is awesome.I'd wait for explicit approval or comments by others before adding to the crowner (i.e. don't just add it to the crowner just because nobody interrupted you), especially given that you're here in the first place because you were caught trying to unilaterally restrict examples. Me and another person got into trouble in the NRLEP thread not long ago over decisions like these.

That's why I'm waiting first for others to make amendments before adding to the crowner to generate discussion.
Perhaps restrict within the past ten years, five years, twenty years?
By the looks of it, the Real Life folder for Insult to Rocks is being used to complain about current public figures.

Kirby is awesome.I'll admit I don't even see a reason to restrict it, personally. It's all objective; whether or not these insults happened is just fact, regardless of who they were aimed at.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI agree. It's basically a stock joke that occurs in real life as much as fiction. The person at which it's aimed isn't part of the joke and I don't think we're casting actual moral judgments, just quoting those who are.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. However, the Trump and Biden examples should not be re-added due to ROCEJ.
Kirby is awesome.I mean, that might be true, but that's not a time issue, it's a ROCEJ one.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWe should define which real-life examples should not be added to Insult to Rocks then.
Should we go for a time-based prohibition or should we prohibit only Trump and Biden examples?

Kirby is awesome. And that's only if simply quoting people making offhand insulting comments about political leaders is gonna rile people up. It just shouldn't look like we're encouraging people.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
I had the same thought, given that entry relied on an "only time will tell" bit.
