Heads-up for Fallen London spoilers; according to this Reddit post spoilers for an Open Secret like the Discordance, Enigma, Secrets Framed in Gold, Where You and I Must Go and the later stages of the Seeking storyline are now allowed, but under general spoiler tags and such. That means spoilers for those items can be added to relevant pages, but should still probably be monitored.

We aren't beholden to outside spoiler policies.

Per this query, at Characters.BNA Brand New Animal over half of the Alan Sylvasta folder is hidden in spoilers and the trope names pretty much spell everything out. Is it okay to put "(Unmarked Spoilers)" on the folder?

[up][up] We aren't (and I've said that elsewhere), but evidently, the editors of those pages have decided to follow those offsite rules anyway because that content is absent. I wonder if we should say anything in Handling Spoilers about media/creators who say Do Not Spoil This Ending.

[up]I think it's a good idea just so there's something to point at whenever one of those issues pop up. It's always good to have rules written down for reference.

[up][up] i agree that's a good idea; The Mousetrap has it too.

Should be self-evident our rules are ours—we don't let Villains Wiki determine Complete Monsters, or listen to authors telling us how to trope their work— but still would be a good idea to say it out loud. proposed addition here

On an entirely unrelated note, Chrono Trigger opens with a banner stating that the page contains many spoilers for the sequel. This seems... bad?

This might not be the place to ask, do we put periods before or after the spoiler?

[up] Most people seem to put them after, as a period (or other punctuation) isn't a spoiler in its own right. And if the spoiler is the end of the example, it arguably makes them easier to read.

Not sure there's any official guideline, though?

The Waspinator entry on Characters.Beast Wars Predacons spoiler tags on the "Function" and "Alt/Beast modes" sections of his profile, above the line.

Looking at examples, they refer to a transformation that happens late in the series, and all other references to it are also spoiler tagged.

I don't know the work, but I'm inclined to simply cut it from the profile - or should I stick something on the discussion page first / as well to see if those who know the work (I don't) would prefer to change the overall spoiler approach for him?

^ Using the discussion page first sounds fine.

Re:BNA: Brand New Animal I am fine with removing spoilers and adding an unmarked spoilers warning to Alan Sylvasta's folder.

Characters.Opal has a spoiler tag in one of the folders and spoiler marks in the description. Should we make the entire page spoiler off?

Should The Great Gatsby (1974) have any spoiler tags on it?

Not counting the examples I added on there (which I intentionally left unspoilered until I got this post resolved), it's not spoilered consistently as only one example has a spoilered sentence on it while other spoilery moments are left without spoiler tags.

Considering that the film is an adaptation of a book that has entered the public domain and thus spoilers are off for that one, should spoiler tags be on the page?

[up] Our spoiler policy for older works isn't strictly based on public domain, though. Copyright expiry is mentioned as a guideline on Administrivia, but so is Older Than Radio.

Older Than Radio is 1890, The Great Gatsby is 1925. Looks like this edit by Wayward Totodile unilaterally removed all spoiler tagging and added the note in 2021.

[up] So should Spoilers Off remain on The Great Gatsby or the spoiler tags be restored there then?

Alright, I currently don't have the energy to restore spoilers to that page (as I have to figure out which are spoilers or not and to manually add spoiler tags) or any other extensive editing, so I'll have to do it some other time unless someone else beats me to it.

[down] Thanks!
