Yeah but I'd say we should probably cut the others, as South Park was never intended for kids.

Radar.The Smurfs begins with this:

Warning: the original comic, and a few of the adaptations, are made by French and Belgian writers who have different sensibilities compared to American ones. Some of the entries here (not counting those from American adaptations) are completely normal there.

If that's the case, they should all be cut, and those from the American adaptations don't look like they count either:

  • While eating at the restaurant with Odile, Gargamel mistakes a champagne bottle cooler for a chamber pot and decides to take a wizz behind a bar in the middle of dinner. It's understandable that Gargamel is from the Medieval era but the idiot just exposed himself in public . . . not to mention probably revealing his genital in front of kids.
  • Gutsy's line, "There's nothing like a cool breeze through my enchanted forest", when he joins Smurfette in the Marilyn Maneuver.
  • Saving the Smurfs from falling, Victor begins transforming midflight back from a duck to human and lands in a laundry basket holder to which Grouchy points out his nakedness. The sound of Vanity's muffled cries of help is heard somewhere in the basket and Victor digs (keep in mind, the nude man is searching in front of him) Vanity out, to which the vain Smurf says "I have seen unspeakable things down there. I have been scarred for life." Makes you wonder what he's seen.
  • When Patrick Winslow says "Is a Smurf's butt blue?", Grouchy is seen bending over and preparing to flash his own butt, saying "You tell me".

Okay, I agree this trope definitely needed a cleanup. A lot of the examples felt like Accidental Innuendo.

But you guys have changed the definition of the trope so that subtle Parental Bonuses don't qualify anymore. Now only blatantly inappropriate stuff like SpongeBob SquarePants wearing a fake penis is allowed. With that new definition, that means 99.99 percent of the examples will have to be cut, and legit GCPtR examples will be able to be counted on one hand.

Like, I'm genuinely curious, can you give me any existing examples of GCPtR that fit the new definition? (Not the hypothetical stuff like the SpongeBob thing.)

My favorite is Airplane!, and it's the standard I use when talking about the trope.

When a PG film features a woman giving an inflatable doll a blowjob, a character snorting cocaine, a woman in bed with a horse, a pedophile pilot, literal shit hitting a literal fan, and a lot more besides that, you know someone done fucked up.

Anyway, it is certainly true that many, if not most, examples will be cut, but the standard was always what it is now. It's just been allowed to fester and grow out of control.

As far as what will be left, well... ideally, examples backed up by Word of God.

Wasn't that movie released when the PG-13 rating wasn't a thing? There were also multiple movies around the same time with some very risque/violent scenes that got by with a PG (this video provides some examples on 11:15), so it's likely that the MPAA's standards back then were simply more lax.

Well, it's a good thing that we do have Word of God on some of those, particularly the "shit hits the fan" joke.

As I understand, there's swearing and sex jokes in Spaceballs and exposed duck breasts in Howard the Duck, released in close proximity to each other (1987 and 1986, respectively), are rated PG. It's clear that the MPAA did not know how to work the PG-13 rating created in 1984 at the time. 2013's Frozen, by contrast, is also PG, despite being far safer for children than the two films mentioned above. There is accusation of a "ratings creep" with regards to the MPAA, but that's besides the point. I honestly think in many cases, the creators put whatever makes sense to include in the movie itself and let the MPAA judge it, so long as it's not rated NC-17 or in a way that alienates potential audiences.

Of course 99% of wicks and examples will be gone when this thread gets through everything. I fear this is a case where this has become a Trope of Legend because of misuse.

I'm just a little suspicious that people are able to provide more hypothetical examples of GCPtR than real examples, making me wonder if we'll have to cut the trope completely.

Found this example in the Other section of the Getting Crap Past the Radar page.

The Department of Motor Vehicles has rules about what is allowed on a vanity plate. The details vary from state to state, but generally they amount to "anything that might be even remotely offensive is disallowed". That said, ... "(University of Michigan 'M') ORONS", "A55 (Florida orange) RGY" note That one was not a vanity plate; it was just the current one in the normal sequence, with an unfortunate placement of the single orange in the middle. The standard Florida plate has since been changed to have two oranges offset vertically because of this /note

note

The first example doesn't apply because teenagers and adults, the ones who do the driving, have heard worse language than "moron". In fact, the "example media" Airplane! features worse language, and was rated PG. And the second one doesn't apply because it was not on purpose.

While looking for the source code so I could copy the example faithfully, I found this example.

One of the Indian Nickelodeon channels runs a campaign for children celebrating their birthday, featuring an anthropomorphic butt character named "Birthday Bum". The character makes a couple of fart jokes, and at one point in his rap song he makes a joke about "no GPLnote , but BPLnote ". Now, this sounds fairly tame... until you learn that it was made for the country's local feed of Nick Jr., which is aimed at preschoolers.

This doesn't apply because preschoolers find humor in butts and farts. Also, "cheek" and "bum" are mild. And, if, in India, "cheek kick" and "bum kick" are bad words, then wouldn't the fart jokes also count?

[up] I'd say the first licence plate counts. If the DMV says you're not allowed to have "Morons" on your license plate, and you find a way to get that word on there anyway, you got something past their radar.

[up] Yes. There must be a clear indication that the content violated or was intended to violate the censorship standards applied to the work. For that to apply, the work must have censorship standards.

[up] I moved most of them to the other pages under different tropes.

These are the other examples:

  • At the beginning of the film when Slinky is talking about how Woody never steered them wrong before, Mr. Potato Head takes off his mouth and pats it against his rear in a sarcastic manner. In case you don't get it, he's indicating that Slinky is ass-kissing Woody.
    • Could also double as a Double Entendre since he could also be saying "kiss my ass".
  • Near the end of Toy Story 2, Jessie does an impressive athletic act. Buzz is stunned, as his jaw drops, and his wings pop out involuntarily, resembling the toy version of a boner.
    • Even worse in the Animated Outtakes, when the wings have "This Space For Rent" written on them. "Darn it, Woody!" indeed.
  • When we see the entire ensemble of Sid's mutant toys, one of them is a tiny fishing rod with two doll legs attached to the spool. For those at home still guessing, the word we're looking for is "hooker".
  • According to the 1998 lexicon The Slang of Sin, "snakes in the boots" is a term for delerium tremens, which puts a really odd gloss on one of Woody's pull-string catchphrases...

  • Barbie says this to Ken when they first meet:
    Nice ascot.
  • "Have fun at college, Woody!" "Yeah, but not too much fun!"
  • Mr. Potato Head: Hey! Nobody takes my wife's mouth except me!

Not sure any of the Pirates of the Caribbean examples are valid, as the series was rated PG-13.

Edit: Sent it to cutlist.

I'm not sure if this is an example.

From Radar.Doraemon:

  • A general example: all those times Shizuka was left naked, shown naked, had her skirt lifted, or was shown bathing.

Sue's bathing/nudity is so blatantly visible in the show that this seems like an example of "the censors noticed it and didn't care about it".

On Radar.Total Drama, while one example may count (swearing in a foreign language), the other examples don't seem like they were trying to deceive the censors.

I believe they had to have actually said either by WOG or something to that effect that they got past the Radar. Otherwise, it's a Parental Bonus. I would say Swearing in Total Drama in a foreign language is just a Parental Bonus.

The examples on the page for Radar.Total Drama Presents The Ridonculous Race seems to be more cases of the censors not caring enough to question it.
