This is the thread for discussing creating Referenced by... pages. Because it is still new as of the time of posting, it still needs some work.

"Related" is your friend.

Here's an incomplete example. ReferencedBy.Haruhi Suzumiya

When you think it looks good enough, add it to the page. I can't edit myself.

Anime & Manga

Fan Works not related to Haruhi Suzumiya

  • Aeon Entelechy Evangelion: Shinji's other foster little sister is named "Haruhy".
  • Mythos-related tomes that Gendo has acquired include "the full product of that unknowing seer, Nagura Tanigawa."
  • A series about a "hyperactive nazzadi girl and her sardonic human male companion." Which describes Haruhi Suzumiya perfectly.

New Media

  • Alice and Bob: Bob's favorite anime is The Sadness of Hurai Shojo.

Webcomics

Western Animation

  • In MAD, Haruhi Suzumiya (albeit a pink-haired version) makes an appearance in the episode "Yo Gaga Gaga". Seconds after that, she's stepped on by a giant Lady Gaga.

!!Anime & Manga * The VisualPun ''Suzumiya Haruhi no U2'' in ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' * In ''Manga/NoMatterHowYouGuysLookAtItItsYouGuysFaultImNotPopular'', not only can a ''Haruhi Suzumiya'' poster sometimes be seen, the S.O.S. Brigade is alluded to by name. * Mizore of ''Manga/RosarioToVampire'' wears a North High outfit. * In Episode 1 of ''LightNovel/SasamisanAtGanbaranai'', Kamiomi is seen doing the Hare Hare Yukai Dance popularized by the anime version of ''Haruhi Suzumiya'', much to Kagami's disgust. This serves as a foreshadowing that, like Haruhi, Kamiomi is a subconscious RealityWarper * Kaoru of ''Manga/ZettaiKarenChildren'' wants to purchase a toy in one episode that resembles Haruhi almost exactly. Considering who Kaoru is voiced by, this doubles as an ActorAllusion. * ''Manga/TheWorldGodOnlyKnows'': ** The final comment in chapter 9: "is Kanon's real identity alien, time traveler or slider?" ** Haruhi appears in the background in chapter 11 ** At the end credits in chapter 94, Elsie sticks a disclaimer notifying Keima's comments are fictitious, referencing the events in ''The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya''. ** Chapter 140 quotes, "I have no interest in humans." * ''VisualNovel/TheyAreMyNobleMasters'' has a "Mirakuru Beamu". * Hidenori from episode 5 of the Cantonese dub of ''Manga/DailyLivesOfHighSchoolBoys'': "Let me get a '[[Creator/TomokazuSugita Freedom]]' Kyon line!" !!Fan Works not related to ''Haruhi Suzumiya'' * ''FanFic/AeonEntelechyEvangelion'': Shinji's other foster little sister is named "Haruhy". * Mythos-related tomes that Gendo has acquired include "the full product of that unknowing seer, Nagura Tanigawa." * A series about a "hyperactive nazzadi girl and her sardonic human male companion." Which describes ''Haruhi Suzumiya'' perfectly. !!New Media * ''Blog/{{Alice and Bob}}'': Bob's favorite anime is ''The Sadness of Hurai Shojo''. !!Webcomics * In ''Webcomic/{{Allen the Alien}}'', Bonnie is seen holding a ''Haruhi Suzumiya'' book. * Dale of ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'' is a fan of ''Haruhi Suzumiya''. * ''Haruhi Suzumiya'' is seen in ''Webcomic/GenderSwapped''. !!Western Animation * In ''WesternAnimation/{{MAD}}'', Haruhi Suzumiya (albeit a pink-haired version) makes an appearance in the episode "Yo Gaga Gaga". Seconds after that, she's [[TakeThat stepped on]] by a giant Music/LadyGaga.

That sounds more like Short Term Efforts' job.

Procedure-wise, I would recommend to search in a work page's Related To page for wicks from other work pages, especially from their Shout-Out pages.

Almost done collecting references to Lupin III, and working on cleaning up the examples. Might spin some off into The Castle Of Cagliostro, but I havent decided yet.

Cool.

Next, ReferencedBy.SpongeBob SquarePants

Western Animation

  • Family Guy: Meg turns on SpongeBob in the car radio for Peter. The scene playing is the famous Campfire Song Song.
  • In Phineas and Ferb's "Summer Belongs To You", when the group accidentally ends up stranded in a deserted island with almost nothing to create, Phineas goes crazy when he tries to find something to do and beat Bufford's dare. He then digs up a deep hole where he holds up a yellow sponge and a pink fish star.
  • Hey Arnold!: Where Arnold is in the comic store, one of the issues in the rack says "SpongeBob."

I remember seeing a page put on ShoutOut/ for a list of works that reference the fiction. If I find it, it may be moved over.

It's ShoutOut.To Shakespeare.

JustForFun.Notable References To TV Tropes should be moved to ReferencedBy.TV Tropes. (or vice versa)

I think the namespace should probably be Referenced.TV Tropes. The "by" makes it look like a statement: "Referenced by tv tropes," that's the exact opposite of the intended meaning.

Added a webcomic section, and folderized a few others. Using the !! formatting is very odd; by the time the pages get big enough to really need folderizing, it's going to be a pain.

I also added links to the Referenced pages on the main webcomic pages.

I'm still on the Lupin III examples and thinking that this is going to involve some of reorganization of Shout-Out as well. Each example is basically posted in four places.

May I propose that the Referenced by... namespace be reserved for media referenced by the work, as opposed to media that reference the work?

You're confused on the difference between Shout-Out and Referenced by....

Work A does something from Work B.

  • Work A is giving a Shout-Out to Work B. Enter it as a trope for Work A.
  • Work B is getting Referenced by... Work A. Enter it as trivia for Work B.

Why don't we ask Discar's opinion? He's the one who suggested we move the current Referenced By namespace to simply Referenced.

I'm here. I do think having the namespace be Referenced by... ends up looking the opposite of what we want, as stated above, but that's just a quirk of the way our namespaces work. The trope itself is fine.
