TV Tropes meta thread

I'm currently cleaning up Obvious Beta, which means editing on a lot of pages for obscure games. Amusingly, I've noticed that the other most recent edits on a lot of pages are related to other TRS cleaning projects.

I've been helping with the UsefulNotes.Steam to Platform.Steam cleanup, and there's a lot of obscure Steam games with equally-obscure pages that are the same way. They tend to be lacking in quality too, and I feel like I should be doing more to help, but there's hundreds of these pages all requiring a lot of Wiki Magic that it feels really daunting.

"Let's hear it for Nine Inch Nails! Woo, they're good!"

I follow those obscure pages after cleaning the wicks in the hopes that one day I can get to expanding them :P

Seeing pages that only get edited in TRS cleanups makes me sad.

I was almost tempted to remove this with the reason that "actually Rats are a very clean animal

I've noticed that another Pokémon Scarlet and Violet avatar cult seems to be forming, except this time with Ogerpon instead of Fidough. Each avatar I've seen is from a different angle/pose, at least, so it's less confusing.

Why do some Index pages update more-or-less instantly, but others take forever (like in Poirot's case)? Is it because pages weren't added in order?

INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.

I love how we finally managed to give Roblox the proper namespace it deserves via Platform/.

I feel like forum-based ATT reports tend to get a lot of upvotes. Maybe because they usually result in an accumulation of behavior that simple hollers couldn't stop, so there's a lot more people who experienced that behavior for a while and were waiting to see the report be made?

I've noticed in the past (and in a few recent cases) that sometimes if I'd holler for help the issue would straight up just not be acknowledged, so I do think ATT reports, while not considered ideal, do work the most efficiently if there's an issue to resolve. Plus it's a way for people to pitch in if they have also seen these same issues from them, but weren't sure it was enough to holler.

I noticed that when the button for starring threads was fixed so engineers could use it (since it was unintentionally left mod-only), it was given a label saying "Pending Final Action" next to the star icon. Previously, it was the only button that didn't have text saying what it's for, and only had the icon.

Edit: Somehow neglected to mention that the drop-down menu this is in is only available for mods and engineers, since a lot of people here can't see what I'm referring to.

Here are my rules of thumb for IP, which I just passed onto Gracie Lizzy.

---

• Add and tag an image when it has consensus, which at least 10 for one pic.
  • You can call it with around 7 for things like work/character pages.
  • For things like minor quality upgrades, count votes for all versions of the image.
  • I count the act of suggesting an image as a in itself.
  • If the votes are split or people request a crowner, hook one.
• The clocking point is five days since the last suggestion if the thread is inactive. If this happens, then...
  • If the votes are unanimous or a clear majority, add the image and tag it.
  • If there are multiple pics but few votes, or if the vote is split, make a crowner.
  • If there are few votes despite there being only one suggestion, or if the suggestions got a lot of , attach a clock and bump the thread.
  • If there aren't any suggestions at all, just close the thread.
• For crowners, put all the options (including the current pic and "no pic for now"). If you don't know what they are, just ask for someone to compile a list for you. Bump it every couple days, though people tend to do it by themselves.
  • Consensus range is defined as a 2:1 -to- ratio or higher.
  • Superconsensus is when the only pic in consensus range has a score of 10+. Add and tag the image when that happens.
    • If it's been three or more days, the same thing applies with a score of 7+.
  • If it's been a full week, just tag the option with the best score if it's in consensus range.
  • If nothing is in consensus range, just tag the page and close the thread (this means leaving the current image on the page if there is one, even if the current was downvoted by the crowner).
• Once the image is in and tagged; star the thread, index it on Image Source and ask for a caption if it's a trope page/subpage, close otherwise.
  • Add a pic to Image Pickin' Special Cases if this is the page's third thread.
  • Usually 3+ is enough to add and tag the caption, after which you can close the thread.
  • If someone already suggested a caption before you added the pic, you can add them both simultaneously and close the thread.
  • If nobody suggests a caption in 24 hours or the suggestion(s) don't get enough consensus, just close.
• Close the thread immediately in the following cases:
  • The thread is just fishing for ideas ("This doesn't have a pic, does anyone have any ideas?")
  • They are suggesting just one pic on a page that doesn't have one (redirect them to the Image Suggestion thread).
  • They are asking to remove an image on a "moments" page and don't have a replacement suggestion (redirect them to the Moments Images Cleanup Thread).
  • They are asking to remove a pic on the "Multiple threads" list of Image Pickin' Special Cases and don't have a replacement suggestion.

I've just seen the new page image for Monster.Anime And Manga, and even before I clicked on the link I knew who exactly was the one depicted there and what he was doing.

Can't believe Mahito killed Johan Liebert to steal his position as the page image smh

I feel that no image can ever illustrate a Complete Monster page well. You can show an evil act, but not a complete lack of redeeming qualities, or whether they have moral agency, which are key parts of the trope.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

Speaking of which, there's an Image Pickin' thread for a Spyro Complete Monster sandbox, and it reminds me of something I find weird: if a character appears in an adaptation and does basically the same things as in the original, they can get a separate entry.
