For generally accepted guidelines for laconics, see Sandbox.Laconic Wiki Template.
Today I found out an interesting fact from troper Ironeye:
Don't ever make the mistake of using the Laconic version as the canonical trope meaning—the laconics are often written by people who don't actually understand the drop. In this case, the laconic only corresponds to one possible cause of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.
The Laconic Description for DIAA states as follows:
The thing is, these descriptions are supposed to make it easier to understand what the page is about. If they can't be accurate as well as short and sweet, then there's a problem.
So for starters, what would be a better description for DIAA?

At the very least, the first one should go as it adds nothing. I don't mind the second, but as an alternative I'd suggest: "A character is told that they won't like the answer to a question they made, and are advised against insisting on it"

135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300IDK if that's actually a double laconic, or just a weirdly formatted line of dialogue, but either way it's bad.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDoes Laconic.Pedro Pascal look too biased? At the least, it ignores that his longest-running role doesn't have any children. (I didn't start the page, but I did add some more words.)
If those really seem like problems, should someone delete the Laconic page, or can it be salvaged?
"An actor most well-known for playing as morally ambiguous characters."
It's been 3000 years…“Chilean-American actor best known for Oberyn Martell and Din Djarin.”
I'll combine both of those; the name-drops in the latter could become obsolete if a future project (such as The Last of Us) earns him even more acclaim.
Nomadland's laconic is "The Grapes of Wrath of The New '10s." (It also has no "link to the unabridged version" at the bottom.)
How is "A widow embarks on a van journey Walking the Earth through America shortly after the Great Recession." for starters. Couldn't think of anything at the bottom other than the standard "View unabridged version here"
We don't sweep with a broom, no~I support the suggestion.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300The laconic for the Game.com is very complainy, and glosses over some of its major features, like the touchscreen and internet connection.
I'd like to apologize for all this. The self-referential stinger is even worse.
I cannot think of a good suggestion, so there's anything I can contribute other than the proposal to just cut the laconic (it can then be recreated with a better writeup). I do hope someone has a good replacement in mind, though.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I like the stinger. It's a commercial reference that doubles as a Stealth Insult — but it's stealth, so it doesn't feel overtly complainy.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, the stinger can be kept.
I'd like to apologize for all this.Oh, I didn't know it was a reference. My bad.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I rewrote the Game.com laconic.

Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Looks good. Thanks.
I'd like to apologize for all this.Much better.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300There are issues with the Laconic page for The Dog Bites Back as people keep writing inaccuracies there. Originally, I changed it from to "An underling who used to be abused or humiliated by the villain turns against their master." to "A villain gets killed by an abused member of their side.". One of the reasons I made this change is because the main page states this is a villainous trope.
However, the other day Tinubu Toon 2002 changed it to, "An abused member of the villain’s side or an otherwise unlucky character gets their revenge.". I then changed it to "An abused member of a villain's side kills them.". This was under the edit reason that, "Judging from the main page, this is a Death Trope that just seems to apply to when abused character on a baddie's side kills [them]. It's also possible for a work to have more than one evil-doer.". However, they ignored it, started an Edit War, and changed it back to, "An abused member of the villain’s side or an otherwise unlucky character gets their revenge.". (I hope what I didn't count as me being part of said Edit War lol.) Then Premonition 45 changed it to, "An abused character takes their revenge on their abuser.".
(Yes, I know, I'm not perfect at writing for Laconic pages either in case I need to state that lol.)

That belongs to Ask The Tropers at this rate.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThank you for your advice, I opened something in ATT for it.
While the return link at Laconic.Difficulty Spike is giving me nightmares, how is it related to difficulty?
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNo idea. But here's a suggestion: "Reading the laconic is easy, but tackling the unabridged version HERE and all of its examples is not!"
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Just created Laconic.Too Many Babies. How'd I do?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallDefinitely better than Laconic.Wave Of Babies, which currently reads "rumblerumblerumblerumbleWAAAAAAH". Definitely an artifact of the "laconic wiki is for funney joaks only" times, since its last edit was eleven years ago.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. We could fix that to something like "A massive group of babies descends upon an area" and then move the current laconic to the "view the unabridged version" section, which is where we tend to put jokes now.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
Laconic. You Do Not Want To Know is doing the two-laconics thing. The first one just repeats the trope name, the second one seems kinda eh. Any suggestions?
