Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Okay, we're off with more British sketch comedy.

Then, at the top of the coming hour... We return to the theme of teenage girls robbing a bank to help a friend, but now played of comedy in Sugar & Spice...

So tonight's movie will be the pizza shirt, pointless sequel Poltergeist III where little Carol Anne Freeling (Heather O'Rourke in her final on-screen performance) continues to be terrorized by ghosts and spirits in a high-rise apartment building...

Okay, we're off and running with cRiT1KaL, Dunkey, and a horror short chosen at random.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we skip straight to the very end of the Poltergeist trilogy because that's where the stupidest stuff lies in Poltergeist III.

What rotten luck, Prom and I aren't here tonight, and Bonsai's picking out a Dario Argento movie for the rest of you to rewatch.

As I recall about this one, it gets off to a slow, almost too familiar start (much of the starting premise feels a lot like Suspiria), but things ratchet up so fast in the second half that it just keeps getting crazier and crazier.

So I leave you Phenomena (aka Creepers, although I really hope we're not running the movie edit bearing that title), starring Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasence...

Tonight, Creepers are coming to visit. Man, what a bunch of creepers.

Before that, we play some tunes that are looney.

EDIT: Tonight we were revisiting one of Godfrey Ho's movies, Ninja vs. Ninja. There's no trailer for it unfortunately; I couldn't find one. It looks like we won't run it now.

Also, we celebrate my niece's 8th birthday today at 7pm my time, so I couldn't run the movie.

EDIT: [up]Were you gonna be able to make it? I thought you said something about your niece's birthday.

EDIT EDIT: Yeah, you, Prom, and I, are all unavailable tonight, don't announce a movie tonight, unless somebody else with mod powers is already able to step up. If nobody else is prepared to fill in for us, I'm way too busy today to scramble and ask somebody with this little notice.

It would be easier if we'd just take tonight off and reconvene on Saturday... I'm thinking of running Cheech and Chong's worst-ever movie.

[up] Tell me it's The Corsican Brothers. I caught it on Comedy Central a few years ago, absolute trainwreck.

Anyway, I don't know if I'll be around any night from here to next week, maybe Tuesday, not too sure. In any case, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

[up]Brother, if you know Cheech & Chong movies that were airing frequently on Comedy Central "a few years ago" (although I haven't seen a Cheech & Chong movie on Comedy Central since they were still showcasing stand-up comedians, and that had to be nearly 15 years ago), then you surely know what I'm talking about!

Well, Myst definitely knows what's up!

The very last Cheech & Chong movie that is also their ONLY effort to make anything other than a stoner comedy... and is also the most poorly received movie they ever made together. Indeed, it ultimately marked a very tragic end to their time as a comedy duo: Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers...

Okay, pre-show tonight is a bit of a grab bag with cRiT1KaL, a horror-comedy short film, and an in-character short-film from "that guy that does not freebase crack cocaine."

Then, at the top of the coming hour, be prepared to freebase crack cocaine just to survive Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers.

I got another good movie suggestion for y'all; Dr. Who and the Daleks. This is the first of two non-canon film adaptations of the beloved BBC show Doctor Who starring Peter Cushing as the Doct-Oh, I'm sorry. I mean Dr. Who.

So yeah, tonight's some weirdass movie about a budding "journalist" who aims to follow around a prostitute and write up a story about her for his own publication. Surely, things are bound to get more personal between them, and Daddy Bruce Campbell surely doesn't approve, and his acting talents are most definitely wasted.

Okay, tonight's movie is some delightful junkfood, starring Mickey Hargitay and a host of voice dubbers turning this entire endeavor into insane camp: Bloody Pit of Horror.

The basic plot premise involves some models and a photography team traveling to a seemingly deserted castle to take pictures for some kind of horror-magazine spread or something, only they later discover that the castle is occupied by a reclusive ex-actor... who believes himself to be the reincarnated spirit of a 17th-century "executioner" whose job is to protect the castle against intruders.

The first time I saw this movie, its blend of subtle homoeroticism, male vanity, muscular henchmen dressed up like Vincent Price's crewmen in Master of the World, and even one scene featuring a man in white undershorts tied down to a torture wrack had me cracking jokes about how much the one and only David DeCoteau must love this movie.

Lo and behold, this IS one of David DeCoteau's favorite movies (but, I assure you, far more entertaining than watching his actual movies)...

I have a suggestion for a film

it's a 1979 surrealist film where a bunch of middle-aged men try and re-create the antics of their youth only to lead to frank booth type sadism, in fact the whole thing seems like a sort of prototype for stuff like blue velvet and wild at heart.

the whole thing's available on youtube with english subs, so that may be a deal breaker idk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz0-T7uRlY8

[up]Seems... Interesting. I certainly see the David Lynch influences (I got a kick out of the young girl's body wrapped in plastic).

Anyway, in my absence tonight and in anticipation of grand family encounters on Thursday... I'm rerunning Mario Bava's A Bay of Blood.

May the last living relative inherit everything... Does sound a bit like Highlander, huh?

This is totally out of left field, but I'm starting us off in pre-show tonight with the October 26, 1989 syndicated broadcast of the American version of A Current Affair hosted by Maury "You're NOT The Father" Povich (Ka-chung!), because I'm the kind of person who is very nearly as crazy as somebody who would upload the the October 26, 1989 syndicated broadcast of the American version of A Current Affair to YouTube (cRiT1KaL's recent upload of a video highlighting web content of the original, longer running Australian version of the same show perhaps swayed me more than just a little bit).

Then, at the top of the coming hour... I suppose its our new Thanksgiving tradition: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in Gigli! This movie is really as bad as people say.

I said this in the movie, but the movie made John and I uncomfortable so we left earlynote , but have we ever considered watching the three theatrically-released films from Monty Python? Especially if we rate them higher than [awesome][awesome][awesome][awesome], I guarantee they'll be a hell of a good time.
