This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

I prefer the Unbearable Waste of Massive Talent one. It's a little more direct.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.Would we need to change the quote on Film. The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent afterwards?
x5: Vote for the first Kareem Abdul-Jabbar quote.
: I feel like policy has been inconsistent on this. I personally think it's okay for the work page quote to be used on a trope page too, b/c a quote becomes iconic because it's so good. So it makes sense that it's associated with the movie and it works for a given trope. So I think it's fine to use for the trope and keep as the work page quote.

So, just for the record, Page Quotes are added without the need for a crowner?

Yeah. It's much more lax than IP. If there's a problem with a quote (non-indicative, duplicate, etc) it can be brought here for others to weigh in on. That's it, really.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailComicBook.Batman and WesternAnimation.Batman The Animated Series both use the exact same quote.
As iconic as the line is, this is a duplicate quote, so one of them has to go.
If I have to pick, i'll probably kick out the one over at ComicBook.Batman since it isn't really a thing he seems to say in the comics.
Looking over at Quotes.Batman, I think this might be a suitable quote.
It's not as epic, but it isn't used elsewhere and it actually comes from the comics, so it works.
We can also cut the quote from the Animated Series page if we want to keep it on the comic page.

Yeah that'll work. And it's way more associated with the animated series than the comics.
The quote from Impossible Pickle Jar is way too long and most of it doesn't even talk about opening jars, do you think it can be shortened to the first line or even just the first two sentences?
My favorite sci fi enemies are the giant sexy depressed womenI vote to just shorten it down to the first sentence.

That works too, I'll take care of it now
My favorite sci fi enemies are the giant sexy depressed womenThe page quotes for Dystopia and Dystopia Justifies the Means are the same Nineteen Eighty-Four quote. Since the image pic for Dystopia is also from 1984, I recommend changing its quote to the epigraph for Brave New World (the other dystopic Trope Codifier):
Colorblind Confusion lacks a quote, how about this:

There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give upLooks good.
Aborted Arc and Snap Back have the same quote from Family Guy. The Phineas and Ferb quote on the quote page for Snap Back might make for a good replacement for that page.
Works for me.
That quote should be removed from Aborted Arc. The conversation by itself doesn't tell us whether it's an aborted arc, plot hole, or something else, so it lacks context. The source line outright states that it's not an example, so should be regarded as an aversion. We don't typically document aversions unless they're very noteworthy. On the quotes page, the Zero Punctuation quote appears to capture Aborted Arc, although I'd suggest cutting it off at "and hopes you do, too" as the remaining content adds no value.
I don't think the quote works for Snap Back either, and I'm not sure the Phinneas and Ferb example has enough context. Part of Snap Back is that it's something that would be plot changing or would be the end of the show, and the Phinneas and Ferb example doesn't tell us how significant or insignificant what's being discussed is — or what it is. Looking at the quotes page, what about the Gumball example? I don't know either show, and I find the Gumball example far more informative than the Phinneas and Ferb one is.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. The pessimist sees a dark tunnel, the optimist sees a light, the realist sees two lights and the engineer sees three idiots.
: Agree on both quote recommendations

Okay, I've swapped out the old Aborted Arc quote for the Zero Punctuation one, and the old Snap Back quote for the Gumball one.
Magikarp Power's quote is sourced from "Memetic Mutation", apparently—no direct source. Keep, or remove? And if we remove, any replacement suggestions?

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallGratuitous Iambic Pentameter’s quote just isn’t the trope at all. He’s speaking in haiku, not iambic pentameter.
...is haiku intended to be rhythmic?
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableAh, I see. It can apply to any poetic meter.
Then why’s it called Gratuitous Iambic Pentameter?
Edited by PurpleEyedGuma on Jul 17th 2023 at 12:15:09 PM
A genuine haiku can potentially have iambic pentameter in it, but the "haiku" that people are traditionally taught in school cannot be iambic pentameter because of the rigid adherance to the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Iambic pentameter requires a 5-beat pattern where every syllable pair (the iamb) is a combination of unstressed and stressed, thereby creating five iambs made up of 10 syllables. The quote on the page is a 5-7-5 poem, so it's not iambic pentameter regardless of whether each line has a drumbeat rhythm

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Gratuitous Iambic Pentameter gets used for dialogue written in any meter or poetry style, regardless of whether it’s pentameter, haiku, or whatever else. No idea whether it counts as misuse or not, but I think that’s why the quote is about haiku, not because the person who added it didn’t know the difference.

What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
The quote on Halfway Plot Switch isn't very illustrative. I'd either replace with the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent quote or this one I was planning to add to the quotes page myself:
Korvo: Yeah, or it could be a Godzilla story, so keep your eyes open.
Yumyulack: Okay, I have a ton of notes.
