This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.

Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.

Would any of these quotes work for Emergency Temporal Shift?

"If you are time travelers, then prove it. There is nothing more here."
CEO Kern, Into the Breach
"We need to evac! Activating breach now!"
Camila Vera, Into the Breach
"We've lost—but only in this timeline. Opening a breach now!"
Ralph Karlsson, Into the Breach
"Timeline is now a Vek hazard zone. New timeline work order being processed."

[up][up]The terminology obfuscates most of them, but I think the third may have enough plain English that the rest can be figured out by context.

I don't know if it's come up before, but Gone Horribly Right and Gone Horribly Right.Anime And Manga have the same quote, albeit formatted slightly different.

Maybe replace the one on the main page?

Looking at the quotes page, there's this quote from the web original folder:

"Africanized bees owe their existence to science. Warwick E. Kerr created them in Brazil during the 1950s by crossing a European bee with an African bee. He wanted a bee that could live in the jungle. He got a bee that swarms by the hundreds of millions, is insanely territorial, mindlessly aggressive, has killed anywhere from a few dozen to a few thousand people, and can live in the jungle.
"And after they escaped and swarmed northward, it turned out they were a-OK with deserts, too. They'll be in Montana by 2010."

If you use it, I'd suggest knocking off the very last sentence because entries should be timeless, and the last sentence makes the quote a bit dated. That said, the entire second paragraph could probably be left off completely as the trope is demonstrated in the first paragraph.

"Africanized bees owe their existence to science. Warwick E. Kerr created them in Brazil during the 1950s by crossing a European bee with an African bee. He wanted a bee that could live in the jungle. He got a bee that swarms by the hundreds of millions, is insanely territorial, mindlessly aggressive, has killed anywhere from a few dozen to a few thousand people, and can live in the jungle."

[up]You're right. The first paragraph would be enough, I think.

Edit: Oh right, No Real Life. Derp.

[up][up] Only problem with that is that it describes a Real Life example and that trope forbids real life examples.

Here are three quotes I found that could potentially work:

Hobbes: Your duplicator is a big success.
Calvin: Oh no!
Calvin Clone: Are you kidding? It burned out after the fifth one of us!

"We decided to dust it off, and give it another go, aiming to create the better soldier. Banner's work was very early-phase. It wasn't even weapons application, he thought he was working on radiation resistance. I would never have told him what it was really for, but he was so sure about what he was doing he tested it on himself. And something went very wrong... or it went very right."
Thunderbolt Ross, The Incredible Hulk

"Oh, no! Everything's going according to plan!"

[up][up] [tup] for Star, since it’s simple. To me, the clone machine burning out in the Calvin and Hobbes quotes muddies the waters a bit.

Yeah, I love C+H, but the machine burning out gives the impression that things did not go right. The Star one's succinct and funny.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

The problem there is that we'd be back to square one, as Star's quote is the one in use on the Western Animation subpage.

D'Oh. It'll need removing from the Quotes page because it's currently entered under the Web Comic folder, making it a stealth violation.

Here are three quotes I found that could potentially work:

I agree the C+H example comes across as something going wrong. The second one is fine, if everyone knows the Hulk's name is Banner. The third one is zero context — okay, a plan is working, where's the problem? Gone Horribly Right is the "why" of a working plan. It's the "why" that makes it this trope.

Of those three suggestions, the second one seems like the best option.

Alternatively, there's the quote in the Literature folder for the Illustrated Star Wars. It's long, but I think it can be cut down to just this bit:

"We have determined that due to the random vagaries of their search patterns, the two ore processors detected each other. Apparently each Automated Mineral Exploiter identified a large target of fabulously pure metal. The titanic ships came together and began dismantling each other for the ore. From our distant vantage point on one of the former pirate bases, we could only watch as the ore processors became the biggest scrap heap in this sector."
—Incident report, The Illustrated Star Wars Universe

More thoughts please

I agree; that's complaining.

The quote on the top of The EGO Ts appears again near the bottom. I've considered replacing the one at the top with something about why celebrities want an EGOT so badly; does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: EGOT: a quote appearing in the example section of the same trope is not a reason to remove it as a page quote. Usually you'd either cut the quote from the example or refer the reader to the page quote if it's really necessary.

I would like to suggest a quote change for Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse, from this:

"You are all the things that are wrong with you. It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened to you in your career or when you were a kid, it's you! Alright? It's you."
Todd to BoJack, BoJack Horseman

To this:

"It doesn't matter... how and why your life was twisted. In the end... it was all on you. You were the one who chose to give into despair. Don't just... don't blame it on other people's power over yourself!"
Touma Kamiyama/Kamen Rider Saber to Bahato/Kamen Rider Falchion, Kamen Rider Saber

Reasoning that BoJack is a washed-up actor who is toxic only to those associated with him, and though he tries to clean up his act he ultimately fails tragically. Bahato is an immortal who was Maddened Into Misanthropy because his family was killed by someone who thought was his friend. He is taking out his grief not on the one who killed his family, but on the entire world, and even when he's told outright that people have changed from back then he refuses to listen.

I think both quotes work. Latter is fine if we wanna abide by the "villains" part of the trope.

[up][up][up] We very much do not "refer the reader to the page quote". If the page quote changes later, the example would need to be changed — assuming anyone thinks to check, which often doesn't happen, resulting in examples referring to "the page quote" that isn't the relevant quote at all.

Examples must be written to stand alone without relying on the page quote, the page image, other examples on the page, links to the work, or anything outside the example text.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
