This all seems perfectly okay to me, especially since the idea of the School making Delta mons as a side-project sounds very on-brand.

Best Berry Blowback

I'm not particularly involved in either the PEFE or the Best Berry side of things (despite nominally writing for a couple of executives) but a counter-PR campaign seems pretty reasonable - unfortunately, in both RL and the Pokeverse, megacorps being outed as evil doesn't affect their bottom line much. As such I'd err more towards the counter-Best Berry campaign being more of a propaganda war than outright conflict.

Sounds good to me, especially since that first interaction often informs how a character acts going forward.

Unrelatedly, I agree that Sinnoh-2 seems like the best option for the next arc - and with Legends on the way, I'm wondering if we might want to consider the idea of running another Ancestors arc simultaneously with it. It probably won't be Conquest-2 (since we don't know any of the plot details yet, and there's not likely to be a war going on in Sinnoh at the time) but it might be a neat excuse to do something along the same lines.

I'm absolutely in favor of another arc set in the past alongside Sinnoh-2/3/4/X, whether it's Conquest-2 or just another chapter in Sinnoh's history. I might specifically want to make a character that's not an ancestor of any of my current ones, but of course that's just me, it could easily be actual ancestors for anyone else ;P

I'm not against it, but I feel like we should wait to see what Legends actually holds before we seriously commit to it if that's what we want to do.

Formalizing a new Macraul from a background character I introduced last year

Region of origin: Currently resides in Wyndon, Galar, originally from Lumiose City, Kalos, spent his summer in Los Phiones in Angela.

Backstory: An older child of Paul and Anna Macraul, Louis had everything laid out for him on a silver platter. His parents were rich, influential, and very well-connected. But spending a few years in university abroad has a way of changing people. Today, he and his parents have had a massive falling out, and he's all but completely disinherited. Few mentions of him remain in Macraul Manor, even among things that used to be designated for his use. Only very recently has there been any change in the previous status quo, and it was a practical concession more than anything else.

The nature of the events that had Lou disinherited were unclear, and being so much as reminded of it makes him grumpy and sad. What is known is that while he has a special pit of hate for his parents, he also has it out for his Uncle Lowell, who he was once very close to.

In general, Lou keeps himself distant from most of his family. No longer the posh rich kid with a silver spoon in his mouth, the sore young Macraul really wants nothing to do anymore with most of his family, and reconciliation with his parents is out of the question. He seems to not hold anything against many of his cousins and second cousins, and especially his younger brother Gaspard. Indeed, Gaspard's need for a family member to legally handle his stay in Galar was what prompted an uneasy attempt at rapprochement with him and his parents.

Despite not being rich anymore, Lou is still very much a Macraul collector. His cramped Wyndon house contains many Funko bobbleheads. What he's most proud of is his less conventional collection of computer viruses, kept in a series of virtual computers he assembled in his spare time, the "Virus Aquarium." The collection itself has no value, though the system he uses (complete with wide flatscreen display monitor) is by far his most expensive possession. Though it's still somehow cheaper than a gaming computer. He knows how to thrift shop computer parts.

Even before adulthood, Lou had a tendency to do things by himself instead of relying on servants or his indeedee to do it for him. He even largely raised Gaspard and acted more like an actual parent to him than any other relative prior to their separation. He still didn't adapt quite as smoothly to poverty, but his indeedee took care of that for him.

Lou is an active member of a cab driver's union and cares deeply for the needs of cab drivers and other underappreciated transportation workers.

He sometimes likes to see himself as a knight serving a nobleman, even if Lou pretty much rejected nobility as an idea that applies to him.

She wears the only keepsake Lou kept from his family: one of Lowell's prototype translators.

Personality/Bio: Otis is a viral porygon-z Lou retrieved in his collection a few years ago. Currently, he is contained in the virus aquarium alongside various non-sapient programs and the porygon-lines Lou collected over the years. Otis is quite cocky for a porygon and has made a lot of wild claims about his personal achievements. He appears to have once started out or has incorporated some sort of bizarre post-cyberpunk vampire fanfiction where he rules over digital pets and breaks out into reality or something to that effect. He's been in the aquarium since the 2010s, right around the time the rifts began emerging.

Despite his name, Otis tends to carry himself like a pompous nobleman, which is probably why Lou is adamant on keeping him in the aquarium besides being a curiosity. All the scornful aloofness of his many uncles and his father without the emotional baggage. He likes to talk about the damage he plans to cause to "this world" if he ever gets out of the aquarium.

But as computing got better, he lost his touch and his ability to wreak havoc declined. He's the true gem of Lou's collection as he was the original copy, found by complete accident. He settled into captivity well and eventually agreed to become Lou's assistant. He and Mathilde are Lou's closest nonhuman friends.

A master accountant who keeps the books balanced and unnoticed by authorities, she carries herself with confidence and control, knowing that the loss of her would set a lot of operations back without her to balance. Capable of telling even the strongest Templar "no" without even changing tone, she looks forward to working with new Templars and graduates... and telling them they don't need that much money for what they say they want to do.

Appearance: Fenrir is beefy and imposing. Standing at six-foot-six, he easily towers over the average person, and his strength clearly matches his size. His jet-black (School-brand™) hair lies dishelved and swept to the side, while a full beard covers the bottom of his face. What skin is visible appears to be pale and transluscent, almost like there's no pigmentation at all. While his left eye is the standard School purple, his right eye appears to be robotic and glows blue. A small strip of metal is implanted in his forehead, over his right eyebrow.

Rather than traditional armor, Fenrir wears a white bomber jacket with dark blue lining and red accents over a dark blue button-up shirt. He also wears dark blue pants tucked into a pair of dark blue calf high boots with red lining and silver plating on the toe and heel. Fenrir also wears a single white glove over his right arm and a matching belt with two holsters on each side. In each holster is a strangely boxy handgun, one black and one white.

Personality: Fenrir is 100% loyal to the school and Dr. Lazarus. Bullheaded and blunt, he tends to ignore the more stealthy methods used by Templars such as Akira. When reclaiming or executing truants and ex-Templars, Fenrir attacks directly, swifting attacking and disabling his opponents. True to his title, he seemingly lacks any emotion beyond rage. Loyalty to the School is all that matters, and anyone who isn't clearly isn't in their right mind.

Backstory: Fenrir is a bit off an oddball, even amongst his peers. The product of an (ultimately abandoned) experimental line of cybernetically-enhanced Templars created by Keegan, Fenrir was the eight and final Templar - the only one to survive. Although the project was deemed too inefficient and exprensive, Fenrir was made a Templar proper. Specializing in asset "reclamation", Fenrir is also, fittingly, Keegan's personal "attack dog", even more so than Firebrand. An extremely powerful Pyschic, Fenrir's enhancements not only boost his powers but also his physical characteristics - making him quite adept at his job.

Known Powers:

• Numbing Agent - By manipulating his senses, Fenrir can block out pain in the organic parts of his body, allowing him to fight through even the most devastating injuries.
• Aura Infuse
  • Projected Aura - Fenrir can coat his body in a barrier of Psychic energy, absorbing the force of attacks in the shield.
• Preflexes - Fenrir possesses precognitive abilities, allowing him to see attacks before they hit him and react accordingly. The stronger the attack, the less time he has to react.
• Miracle Eye
• Minor Telepathy
• Minor Plumokinesis - A weaker, heavily modified form of ferrokinesis that only affects lead. Necessary to prevent any issues with his cybernetics, and thus only used to manipulate bullets.

Cybernetic Enhancements:

• Control Plate - The metal plate interfaces directly with Fenrir's brain. While it does prevent Fenrir from most forms of mind manipulation, shorting it out otherwise damaging it will disable his cybernetic's more advanced features, leaving him with only severely hampered basic control of his prosthetics.
• Prosthetic Eye - Fenrir's blue eye grants him a built-in H.U.D., night vision, and a targeting matrix. It can also be temporarily brightened to disorient an opponent, much like the move Flash. When disabled, Fenrir can only see out of his organic eye.
• Prosthetic Arm - Functionally grants Fenrir the moves Brick Break and Bullet Punch. Capable of withstanding more force than an organic arm, and can move lighting-quick when needed. When disabled, Fenrir can only move the arm in a rough, animatronic-esque way and cannot control the fingers at all.
• Prosthetic Torso - The right half of Fenrir's torso is made of metal. This grants no real advantage other than the inherent durability.
• Reinforced Spine - Fenrir's spine is reinforced to cope with the strength of his arm. Much like the torso, there's no real effect other than making the spine stronger.
• Prosthetic Leg - Continuing down from the waist, Fenrir's entire right leg is also metal. Has the same enhanced speed and strength as Fenrir's arm, and when disabled is no better than a standard fixed-prosthetic, as Fenrir is completely unable to move the knee, ankle, and toe joints.
• Other Misc. Reinforcements

While Fenrir did originally have a Porygon partner, they were never close, and the Porygon was reassigned to other work. Fenrir has one job, and he does not require any help to do that.

Through as-yet-unrevealed plot, Shaun is probably going to end up with his J-Dan's self Type: Null. Just wanted to clear that with everyone? Along with the cyborg Templar. We've definitely had crazier things IRP, but I do want to try and keep him relatively...WAAPT-y.

We've had cyborgs in WAAPT before to varying degrees of general organ replacement as extensive as Fenrir's or more so. The lack of a pokémon partner might be the only issue I can see.

Backstory: On the surface, Professor Cassander Circhester is your typical admirable polymath. Charismatic, polite to a fault, and multitalented. He is both a renowned psychologist, a passionate medievalist, a literary critic specializing in gothic horror, and a collector of medieval through Victorian-era curiosities. In many ways, the kind of old person you'd wish to grow old to be if you were a goth jock. He's always kept his author biographies quite short, and with good reason. He's also psychic, and has written about the subject almost as much as his academic rival, Professor Yew.

Cassander works for the School and is heavily invested in the preservation of the legacy tech that it has developed and reproduced since the 19th century. Cassander is heavily invested in the Schoolchild program and has overseen some of the tests involving the Freshman batch. Currently in his personal custody is one they cloned from a batch of medieval hair, whose acquisition he personally oversaw.

Recently, his speciality is in keeping School children under control. His custody of Oganesson, capable of fielding tangible illusions, revolved around canceling out such powers to make the termination of such psychics easier. In the meantime, he's rare among School scientists in that he's taken an unusual interest in other fields. He dismisses accusations of fringe research as unfounded. His interest in the occult is a personal hobby, and nothing more.

Midway through 2021, he acquired an old castle in the Galarian countryside. It was surrounded by a peculiar abandoned farm and another ruined medieval castle and village. Few humans ever visit, which seemed to make the whole thing suit his aesthetic and the School's purposes.

Personality/Bio: Adam the Archetype was once a templar, an exemplary one at that. He was immensely dedicated to Cassander's work and looked up to him. Some say that Cassander finally cracked the code of the illusive mind control device. Others say he found other ways to enthrall a ghost mon who has every right to be angry at him.

He isn't mind-controlled or anything. Cassander himself was Adam's human genetic template. Cassander, as far as he's concerned, is his father and he obeys out of a twisted version of love and filial piety.

He drained from humans and Pokemon alike but in particular preyed on beautiful young people he seduced, killing them with a kiss. His reign of terror was ended by a warrior in red and her Metagross, but he was eventually reborn as a Haunter known as the Black Fog, who resumed his reign of terror. Backstory: A prodigy in the scientific space, Victor rose through the ranks of science from a startlingly young age at a rapid pace... but not by doing anything good. He has studied and worked with human and Pokemon genomes extensively, eventually hoping to render Pokemon obsolete by enhancing humanity, but is not above experimenting on either. His early work was with Pokefutuires (where among other things he aided with the creation of the Sythermen and created Coil and Iris), but he was willing to "borrow" work from other organizations, including The School. In fact, he was so fascinated by the School that after PEFE sank Pokefutures he up and joined them.

His mons are either oblivious to his goals, in denial, or simply think they can one-up him.

Another Schoolkid Duo — The Irons

Designation: #26 - Iron

Nickname: Big Iron

Civilian Alias: Stewart Mertens

Age: Early 20s (roughly, physically), actual age and batch unknown.

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Indeterminate genetic slurry, phenotypically passes as White

Appearance: A moderately tall, handsome, athletic farm boy with purple eyes and messy yet short dirty blond hair. He tends to wear slightly faded jeans and sporty t-shirts with the number 26 on it. He always has a chill, cocksure, but not exactly obnoxious expression on his face.

Organization Ties: The School (formerly), Mertens Farm (formerly), The Oasis

Region of origin: Orre

Backstory:

The 26th of his batch, Iron was all the School could ask for in a successful experiment. Boasting of excellent physical and psychic abilities, he's also noted for being resourceful, intelligent, good with machines and quite charismatic. He would've been an excellent field leader had he been allowed to graduate. However, they discovered that he had a higher tendency for empathy and was motivated typically by seeing others in his group having difficulty. While it made him an excellent instructor, it also made him potentially dangerous. It was deemed that he was to be culled in the most unceremonious way possible; through a training incident.

After retrieving blood and hair samples, the henchmen tossed his corpse into a mamoswine farm some distance from the facility. Of course, he wasn't actually dead and the mamoswines took pity on him and alerted the farmer to his presence. The farmer, Garry Mertens, decided to care for the injured adolescent and hired him as a farm hand. Mertens became like a father figure to the young schoolkid and later adopted him. Eventually, "Stewart" moved out of his adopted father's farm on the latter's suggestion. He eventually found an ally among the Oasis, and has worked for them ever since. Mr. Mertens may have had a hand in getting him to the Oasis, likely as a person who reports enough conspiratorial things happening near his property.

The School later took his DNA and created Ferrum from it. Although there were several modifications made to make Ferrum more compliant with the School's interest, the two share a similar psychic power set. Like Ferrum, the original Iron could manipulate ferromagnetic materials mentally.

Nickname: Little Iron, Rusty

Age: 14-ish (physically), barely 1 (actual age)

Gender: Nonbinary, AFAB

Ethnicity: Indeterminate genetic slurry, mixed

Appearance: A young short-for-their age enby, quite lean and timid-looking, with purple eyes, shoulder-length red hair and somewhat dark skin. They enjoy wearing baggy clothes, be it T-shirts or hoodies, and often try to copy Big Iron's sense of style. They have a friendly face that elicits squee reactions. Think of a teenaged Yotsuba Koiwai and that's basically them.

Backstory: True to their designation, the 26th Freshman's DNA was designed with ferrokinesis in mind, and Little Iron displayed rather powerful control over ferrometals. They can control metal on a molecular level, causing massive damage. Naturally, their holding areas were made largely of plastic and concrete.

They were kept in relative isolation and weren't allowed to interact much with other schoolchildren, let alone other humans, due to the immense damage they could cause outside the facility. Most of their time in the facility was spent trying to refine their abilities to cause less collateral damage while still being lethal, to varying degrees of success.

Little Iron was one of the first schoolchildren actively and successfully rescued by the Oasis. Just retrieving them took several weeks of planning once the group found out where they were kept. Big Iron was the one who successfully retrieved them, and they responded the most positively to him among all the other rescuers. Thus, he was given custody of them and they've developed a sibling-like relationship. In particular, Little Iron seems to hero worship their new big brother. And Big Iron reciprocates by being a rather excellent teacher himself. Thye're often seen riding on her big brother's shoulders.

The Irons' Pokémon

All the Irons' team members are named for types of iron compounds: hematite, siderite, and pyrite

Species: Grumpig (Little Iron's starter)

Nickname: Hemo

Gender: Male

Ability: Own Tempo

Personality/Bio: Hemo was little Iron's primary companion and is very protective of his charge. It's his ability to read minds that allowed the timid Little Iron to trust their rescuers. Today, he works as the main interpreter between his trainers and their other pokémon.

Species: Delta Mamoswine (Ice/Steel; Big Iron's starter)

Nickname: Sadie

Gender: Female

Ability: Snow Cloak

Personality/Bio: Sadie was once the head of her sounder and, as a delta, was Farmer Mertens' prize sow. She found Big Iron in the mud one day and alerted Mr. Mertens to his predicament. Now retired from being the Orre Fair's Queen Sow, she's been his guardian and companion and works as a heavy hitter for the team. She had several mates over the years as a breeder and sired many children and grandchildren, many of whom still live in the Mertens' wool farm.

Nickname: Pyra

Gender: Female

Ability: Blaze

Personality/Bio: The newest member of the team, she was gifted to Big Iron when he first joined the Oasis. Warm and a bit of a cuddle bug, she serves as a secondary maternal figure for the Irons. As a fighter, she is a bit more precise than "Madam Sadie" and prefers to use speed and critical attacks to take down opponents. She likes to make statements that translate to Galarian puns in monese. Unlike "the madam", she's a touch more boisterous and fun-loving.

• Ethnicity: Indeterminate
• Appearance: Tall and pale, with bright short messy red hair and shockingly bright purple eyes, symmetrical facial features and a scar on the left side of his lip. Prone to wearing a heavily customized Plague Doctor outfit and carries a cane for hitting people with.
• Organization Ties: The School
• Region of origin: Kalos
• Powerset: Cadmium has standard telepathic abilities, but his true skill lays in his ability to manipulate toxic and poisonous elements, with this he can construct toxic clouds mentally to attack his foes.
• Backstory: Cadmium was constructed with the experimental goal of commanding and controlling poisons or even constructing new forms of toxins on the fly, such a skill would be deeply useful for a lot of assassination missions. The end result isn't perfect as Cadmium has yet to use his power subtly, and even wears a rather ostentatious Plague Doctor outfit, strutting around in it. Attitude problems aside he has shown remarkable promise and the Templars born from his genetic structure may prove more useful.

So who knows when I'm gonna have her be relevant at all, but I had a sudden surge of ideas for an Aura Guardian ancestor of Kai's, so! Allow me to introduce you to...

Kaya, the Searing Duelist

• Ethnicity: Ranseian
• Appearance: 5'7, light skin, white hair usually tied in a long ponytail. Wears what might have been traditional Aura Guardian getup at one point, but has been refashioned to have a swashbuckler-esque air to it.

  • Clever, quick, and ruggedly charming, Kaya seems rather rogueish for the typical fare you'd expect of an order of Aura Guardians. Indeed, before Kaya was inducted to train and hone her Spectral abilities, she was living on the streets as a con artist, ever since she was a kid — after her parents were subjected to the same fate many Obscurics of the time did, at the hands of a group known as the Knights of Vatonage.
• Abilities:
  • Kaya's Spectra does not quite appear like flames, but carries a heat capable of burning, not unlike the effect of Will-o-Wisp. This, alongside the status effects her Toxicroak can inflict with Poison Touch, Ice Punch, and Thunder Punch, makes the two of them very adept at giving their opponents status conditions. She's also capable of utilizing her powers to pinpoint these weaknesses as a form of Hex.

• Personality: Despite being Kaya's partner Pokemon and having a powerful Auric bond with her, Gu has a knack for going off on their own and causing their own shenanigans. They love to pull pranks, especially the kind that knocks rich types off their high horses.

Alright, it's time for me to bring back the PROPOSAL and PLANNING for the Paper Mario: The Origami King media arc, since I intend to finally start it Soon.

The Plot

Oh no! There's been an invasion of strange origami Pokemon! People are going missing! [Location pending] has been carried off into the sky! An Origami Togekiss, King Olly, seems to be behind it all, and the J-Team will have to team up with his sister Olivia to stop him.

Ronald: One of the Legion Of Stationery. A pack of rubber bands brought to life as a Hariyama. Theatre kid.

The "Gameplay"

It's intended to be a pretty hop-in and hop-out arc, though mostly on a chapter by chapter basis. Lots of exploring, fights, and occasional puzzles. I enjoyed the game but may address some of my problems with it along the way lol

There's still SOME stuff that needs figuring out, that can be seen in this post, but once we do that it can probably be started soon after that. That and... Obviously I need people. Feel free to express interest in this thread!

• Species: Registeel (Galarian)
• Pronouns: They/them he/him
• Personality: Signis is oooooold, and their personality easily matches it, if you ever wanted to hear a metal golem from ancient times rant about how they hate most modern things then there would be no better choice. Signis's attitude varies day to day thankfully, depending on how they are feeling they can seem downright reasonable, they like industrialization and technological advancement but outright dislike the people involved. Their attitude is best described generally as "Steel is strong, flesh is weak", but thankfully that leads to, "So steel must protect flesh". Despite their attitude they are at least willing to talk to people and have many stories to tell.

I've been meaning to say if anyone wants to do anything with the "Pokefutures copying the school's homework and making artificially engineered humans with Aura Spectrum powers" plot point I introduced relatively feel free. Victor personally oversaw/created Coil and Iris but I left room for others for a reason, especially if you want a faux Schoolkid with powers in parts of the Auric spectrum that aren't Psychic and don't want to go through the Phantom Class.

Important Question

So, I've been in this thing for 2 years now, and I finally feel like enough time has passed for me to ask the question:

Do you think I'm ready to handle the responsibilities of allowing my characters to be on the Auric spectrum?

My ideas so far are:

I read Ian's post to get an idea of what to say in this, and I am a bit worried about whether or not I'm willing to handle the out-of-universe responsibilities as well, since I feel like I had a lot of the same problems that Ian did for a long time and don't know if I've gotten better with them. I'm also very much aware that I need to do a lot of research both in and out of universe, and am willing to do all of the research possible.

Also, just wondering, is it true that you're only limited to 4 abilities?
