Other Examples:

  • Ascended Fan Nickname: Played in reverse with Morgana from Season 8. Throughout the season, she was often referred to as "Morgs" by Frankie, and it was eventually adopted into the server.
  • First Installment Wins: Out of the two Amateurs seasons so far, it's commonly agreed that the first season was the best.
  • Growing the Beard: Throughout the first three seasons, the seasons were somewhat comical with chef names and the overall direction. Season 6 saw a more grounded and more serious season that eventually carried over to Season 7 and beyond.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: At one point in Season 7, Mai would say that she and Donna were not that different, with the only difference being that Mai knew she was a shit person. Initially shown as Mai just hating Donna and wanting to get under her skin, the quote takes on a darker meaning as the user behind Donna was revealed to be a legitimate groomer. It also doesn't help that his character next season, Donovan, was derided for his creepy comments towards Fifi (among other things).
  • Just Here for Godzilla: It's pretty commonly accepted that the only truly solid chefs of Season 8's otherwise weak cast were Frankie and Morgana. Carl, Celine, and Sal also get this as well.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Frankie without a doubt, due to his good looks and more than amicable treatment of the red team. While Fifi and Frankie is considered Strangled by the Red String, Frankie is also considered to be paired with Morgana, Celine, and even Victor.
  • Les Yay: Season 8 featured Celine and Morgana, with Celine making several comments about Morgana's appearance throughout the season.
  • Love to Hate: Unlike the actual show, several chefs who have shown more jerkish personalities wound up beloved because of how villainous they were.
    • From Season 2, Jangue wound up as this as despite his jerkish attitude, he was able to back up his skill incredibly well.
    • As mentioned above, Mac from Season 6. He was lauded for being a legitimately well-done villain who was based off a controversial former server member, which led to a lot of levity as well as opportunities to poke fun at them.
    • From Season 7, despite being a Manipulative Bastard who was responsible for orchestrating a good chunk of eliminations, Rohan is respected for being a legitimately well-written character, alongside his bond with DJ.
    • From Season 8, this is with both Carl and Celine, the former being an egotistical know-it-all while the latter was a Jerkass who bullied Fifi a lot. However, Carl is well liked for being a hilarious jerk while Celine's delusional attitude crossed into downright hilarity, alongside the fact that she had some sympathy due to Donovan's comments against her.

  • Slow-Paced Beginning: This was one of the few criticisms of the otherwise well-received Season 8. While the top ten are well liked for the most part (most notably Carl, Celine, Sal, Frankie, and Morgana), the first ten boots (with the exception of Kylian and Toby) were either not developed enough to get attached to, rather generic, or, in Donovan's and Eliana's case, heavily disliked.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Several relationships were developed throughout the seasons, and while only one of them (Brynn and Pory) were well-received, the rest less so.
    • Season 3 had Abby and Jesse, which was disliked for the amount of Squick involved, on top of Abby's less than stellar reputation.
    • Amateurs had an interesting example of this between Heather and Malcolm, as while the two were legitimately attracted to each other, Malcolm not returning at the final service resulted in nothing coming out of this.
    • Season 7 had this happen with Georgie and Mai, as Georgie's crush on Mai came during a time where Mai was acting like a total Jerkass, and Georgie herself was a divisive character.
    • Season 8 had this happen in the short-lived, but infamous Love Triangle, with Fifi, Donovan, and Frankie. Donovan didn't work due to his unpopularity and creepy behavior towards Fifi, and Fifi and Frankie were considered a poor match. The latter two was especially egregious as Fifi wound up with several problems that marred her reputation. For one, she lost several of her original and well-received traits in order to appeal to Frankie, such as mentioning getting into fights and not watching the show too. Second, Fifi seemed to have relatively little reason for liking Frankie due to the fact they barely interacted with each other, and Frankie was in the midst of his early Jerkass phase, making Fifi look like she only liked him for his looks and thus, made her come off as incredibly shallow. Third, Frankie not only seemed to lack interest in her (which he later confirmed), but he was considered to have better chemistry with the person who was originally shipping them in Morgana and even Fifi's rival in Celine. Finally, and perhaps the worst part, was that Fifi tended to barge into conversations involving Frankie and other characters like the aforementioned Morgana, resulting in Fifi coming off as tied down to Frankie and preventing more Character Development. Really the only person who came out of this looking strong was Frankie.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Malcolm from Amateurs Season 1 was shown to be easily one of the strongest chefs of the competition, and alongside a solid romance arc forming with Heather, it appeared that he would be a relatively solid character. However, due to server controversy, Malcolm not only didn't make the finals, but he didn't return for the final service. This had the result of the arc with Heather never having a conclusion, and the arc being added to the pile of poorly received romances.
    • There's also Pani from Amateurs Season 1. She was shown to have been starting an interesting feud with Olivia, on top of having a potential Ship Tease with Heather. However, she wound up being the first boot, over Samantha nonetheless.
    • Mac from Season 6 was very praised for being a genuinely solid antagonist, and being considered one of the best since Jangue from Season 2. Unfortunately, he ended up eliminated in 11th place, and not only was he eliminated too early to be brought back for the finale (some mention he should've replaced Larissa), but the remainder of the season had very little antagonistic influence, leading some to feel that Mac should've gone further and swapped places with someone (with the more common picks being Larissa or Tyson).
    • Amateurs Season 2 featured Elizabeth, an executive chef who was quite weak in the kitchen, and also wasn't considered very interesting. There were initially plans to counteract this idea by having her get better and prove she deserved to be an executive chef, whilst also forming a rivalry with Altair. The user leaving however put an end to those plans.
    • Amateurs Season 2 also featured Altair, who some felt was incredibly underestimated throughout the competition, and was being given a fairly interesting story where he was being shoved into the worst chefs category whilst not actually being that bad. It even would've gotten to the extent that during his elimination, Ramsay would've allowed him to keep his jacket, saying he's noticed the progress he's made. Unfortunately, due to the Creator Breakdown that occurred, a mistake was given that saw him lie about sea bass, and it resulted in him quitting despite all the effort and praise he's gotten.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Pretty much widely agreed upon with Season 7, with having fan-favorite chefs such as DJ, Richard, and Donna, a strong antagonist in Rohan, and fixing multiple problems that plagued multiple seasons.
  • Vindicated by History: Malcolm for a while was stuck with the stigma of being a strong, but unlikable chef who constantly dismissed the potential of a friendship with the popular Charles, on top of user drama permanently staining his reputation. It wasn't until a year later however that Malcolm was accepted to be a legitimately great character who could rival Heather in leadership skills and had generally well-received interactions with her, only bogged down by the fact he didn't return for the finale.
