- Hilarious in Hindsight: In one scene, Patrick Stewart as Lenin says "Workers, peasants, soldiers have shown they have the power to make it so!"
- Jerkass Woobie: Wilhelm II. Despite growing up to be an unstable megalomaniac at the helm of one of the most powerful nations in the world, it's hard not to view him in a somewhat sympathetic light due to the cold and at times even abusive treatment he received from his parents as a child. This is hammered home in "The Honest Broker" when he seeks retribution against his mother following his father's death by ransacking her residence only to be reminded he will always be haunted by their disappointment.
- Magnificent Bastard: Otto von Bismarck is the daring Chancellor of Prussia who manipulates France into starting a war so Prussia may crush them. With other wars that Bismarck oversees, as well as his frightening skill in diplomacy, Prussia is able to dominate all of Germany and unify it into a single nation. Making alliances with the Hapsburgs and Romanovs, Bismarck ensures the prosperity of his nation, no matter what ruthless actions he must undertake.
