    Pre-release theories
The series will be more faithful to the comics, having a more accurate ending.
While Finest Hour was still being written while the movie was finishing up, the show will have a more accurate representation of the latter half of the series.

Scott will have a more comic accurate personality
While Cera's performance as Scott the film is iconic, it's also undeniably different from Scott in the comics. Seeing as Cera is returning, He will probably give a less mild and timid performance that he did the film and more like the adult swim short "Scott Pilgrim vs The Animation".
  • This is YMMV, but Cera does indeed give a more extroverted performance as Scott in this show than the movie.

The darker alternate ending from the movie where Scott is revealed to be a serial killer will be used.

The version of events from the movie will be hinted at in a multiverse-type scenario.

Japanese dub cast speculation

Mae Whitman will also reprise her role as Lisa from Vs the Animation
With both Roxie and Lisa serving as the antagonists of Volume 4 (in entirely different ways), it would feel fitting to have both women played by the same actress, particularly since they already were.
  • Jossed, Lisa does not have a voiced role in the series.

    Post-release theories
The glow could be to blame for Scott and Ramona’s future breakup
During the battle with Gideon in the original comic both Scott and Ramona were hit with The Glow. That is what made Future Scott forget how to respect himself and women and be more mature and made Future Ramona forget she can't just run from relationships when they get tough. In the altered timeline, Gideon was never able to exploit the glow because Matthew took his company from him and he moved on from Ramona, giving her and Scott a better chance at a happy, healthy relationship.

The Vegan Police is still to blame for Todd's depowering
He was caught gorging with non-vegan food and got depowered anyway, it just happened off-screen.

Old Scott is not the one from the comics or the movie, but from the video game.
Given the Theme Park Version nature of the video game, we never see Scott experience his wealth of character development from the graphic novels or the smaller amount he got in the film. Video game Scott beat up Nega Scott rather than accepting him, thus never coming to terms with his shortcomings. This does end up defying the video game's ending with his ambiguously happy foursome, but the possibility of him and Ramona ending up together later with the baggage still on his shoulders still exists.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off takes place in an alternate reality
It's likely in this case...

There's a multiverse with Scott Pilgrim variants out there

Todd is able to regain his vegan powers because it's only his first strike.
Todd still has two more chances left and if he blows them then the Vegan Police will show up to permanently remove his powers.
  • Isn't his strikes just a movie thing though? And besides he dropped the vegan diet completely so he's WAY past 3 strikes.

Ramona transported Sex Bob Omb, the exes, and Julie back the the present.
Even Older Scott seems to have killed Gideon and Julie by punching them, and he later kills everyone else minus Scott and Ramona. However they just respawn in the present. So wouldn't kidnapping them to kill them at all be completely pointless. I get it makes sense that Scott didn't think this plan trough, but it would make more sense if Ramona got there first and transported them back.

Anyone who gets coined will usually respawn.
But if they don't show up by the next day they're presumed dead for real.

Todd was gay the entire time.
The way he describes Wallace is a bog-standard relationship, "the sort of fun where you care about another person" and calling it his first love despite Envy and Ramona standing right in front of him. While this is at least partially Todd being a haughty jerk, who's to say that this was because he genuinely didn't have any romantic affection for women in the first place? Wallace being a guy meant he was able to be knocked out of thinking he was straight when he tricked him into falling in love with him, and the shock of feeling actual attraction was so great that he drove himself crazy over it, his brain being unable to handle such feelings and then have them dumped so callously.

Lisa Miller had been cast to play Envy in the movie
Because someone had to play her and Kim, and Lisa wouldn't go for her close friend.

The ability to respawn in this universe is kind of like having health insurance.
A) You have to be able to afford it, and B) it only covers certain events (for example, people who die from old age can't respawn). This is why the Future Twins could respawn after being defeated, but everyone treats Scott's "death" like it's permanent - he couldn't afford a respawn, or he was kicked off the coverage for fighting too many high level enemies.

The Reason Scott and Ramona break up in the future was because Ramona was scared to have kids.
It's possible, and somewhat similar to Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse. At some point, Scott wanted to have kids, though when he tells Ramona, she gets scared and the two have a disagreement that results in the breakup.

    Possible future season theories
Scott and Ramona’s future kids could come into play.

The Julie seen at the ending might not be the original Julie.
There could be a Kill and Replace scenario.

Roxy could have a girlfriend in a future season.
As a Casting Gag, she would be voiced by Sarah-Nicole Robles.

There could be more future selves from different timelines
For example, another Old Scott and/or Old Ramona from a Good Future where they stayed together (implied to be what really happened after the comic and/or movie) could explain to their past selves that the ones they previously met were just from an Alternate Timeline, and it's still not entirely guaranteed to happen.
  • One alternate timeline could be the live-action movie.
  • Another timeline could be the serial killer timeline.

Scott will still have to confront Nega-Scott
In case it wasn't obvious by his skin color, Even Older Scott is the result of Scott not confronting his own inner demons, aka Nega-Scott. Since Nega-Scott was the only evil being he never fought, that leaves him open to be a Greater-Scope Villain for season 2.

Each of the former Evil Exes will have their own spin-off series
It could further explore the lives of the characters, as well as give them their own quirky adventures and an equally quirky rogues gallery they'll have to fight.

The glow will come into play.
Gideon/Gordon was likely never able to exploit it after Matthew took over his company, if it even was a thing at all in this continuity, but with Julie by his side and him still being a bad guy…

Scott Pilgrim will try to fix the timeline
It's possible that Scott could try and go back in time to prevent Older Scott from kidnapping him from the Rockit to fix the timeline. Though how it would happen is a mystery.

A Future season or spinoff Miniseries will be a closer adaptation to the comics….
Except … The season would adapt everything in the comics … before the seasons actually over, with Even Older Scott showing up to try to ruin this version of Scott’s and Ramona’s relationship (Basically being the True Final Boss of a video game), the aftermath of this being a new ending where Scott and Ramona decide to seek out the respawned Evil Exes (sans Gideon) to try to make things right between them and Ramona after finding out there’s timeline where the exes are redeemed.

The second season will be titled "Scott Pilgrim Takes Over".
Given that "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" is a subtle reference to how Scott disappears for a few episodes, the second season will be titled "Scott Pilgrim Takes Over" to reflect 1.) Scott returning to being the main character and 2.) Scott's efforts to regain control of his life following his experiences with the future.

Gideon and Julie's villain plot will be overshadowed by a bigger threat

Mobile will become a slight Ascended Extra
He doesn't really do much in the comics and was Adapted Out of the film. While he may not necessarily join the main cast, it would be cool to finally give him something, seeing as he's the love interest of a main character and is implied to have some cool abilities on account of being a psychic working at the astral plane.

Envy will come back for Scott
Either for the closure she never got in this version, or just to get back at Wallace for turning Todd gay.

Even Older Scott purposely did not pull Wallace into the final fight
Because he doesn't have it in him to potentially hurt *any* version of his most loyal friend.Of all the main cast present at the playhouse, Wallace alone is not pulled into the final fight with Even Older Scott. Even Kim and Stephen, both non fighters, are pulled in. Presumably, based on the fact that he is no longer in a band with them, they suffered some form of fallout, probably due to his declining mental state. It was bad enough that he wanted revenge on them as well, along with the exes, Ramona, and Knives. But he did not seek any revenge on Wallace, who clearly stayed by his side through his declining mental state, even if he did eventually kick him out.
