- Acting for Two: Naturally, all the actors play both themselves and their counterparts.
- Actor Allusion: Jordan Peele voices a dying rabbit as his director's cameo, and has admitted in interviews that he is afraid of them. He also voiced a violent and chaotic rabbit, "Bunny", in Toy Story 4, another 2019 film.
- Billing Displacement: Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker are billed above Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex for their minor side characters, whereas Joseph and Alex are among the film's leads.
- Creator's Oddball: Though it was produced by Jason Blum, Us is not a Blumhouse film (unlike Get Out).
- And Introducing: Madison Curry, who plays Young Adelaide and Adelaide's Tethered double Red.
- Method Acting: Lupita Nyong'o would stay in character as Red between takes.
- Playing Against Type: Comedian Tim Heidecker, of Tim & Eric, plays Josh, who is in his usual wheelhouse as a sardonic and unhappy slacker, and Josh's doppelgänger Tex, a mute and vicious beast-like killer. This has an aspect of Meta Casting, as Jordan Peele's career moved from comedy to writing and directing horror.
- Referenced by...: A Garbage Pail Kids card the same year as the movie featured Jordan Peeled.
- Role Reprise: For one night only at Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights, Lupita Nyong'o portrayed Red again in a haunted house attraction based on the film.
- Those Two Actors: This film marks the second pairing of Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke following Black Panther (2018). This is also the second pairing between Duke and Anna Diop after starring on The Messengers together.
