Trivia / Friday the 13th (2009)

  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Derek Mears was enthusiastic about getting the part of Jason Voorhees, to the point where he admits in the Crystal Lake Memories documentary that he was very straight faced and serious when he got the call, but was giddy and cheerful when he got the role.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Michael Bay had to walk out of the theater during the premiere due to how excessive the sex scenes were. Considering Michael Bay's reputation with Ms. Fanservice characters, that's saying something.
    • More mildly, Travis Van Winkle didn't really want to say the line "Your tits are stupendous!". The production told him to say it because it would probably get some laughs from the audience. They were right...
    • Similarly, Amanda Righetti fought tooth and nail against saying Whitney's line "Say hi to Mommy...In Hell!" as she thought it was cheesy. Audiences agreed with her.
  • Dueling Works: With My Bloody Valentine 3D; they came out within a month of each other, they're both remakes of classic horror films, and each one stars one of the main actors from Supernatural.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Was originally released on February 13th, which of course was a Friday the 13th.
  • Method Acting: Aaron Yoo (Chewie) was so dedicated to a good death scene, he actually freaked out Jason's actor a little! He had fake blood in his mouth in his death scene, but while filming, his gagging and choking seemed so realistic that Derek Mears (Jason) asked him if he was okay as soon as they were done. Yoo cheerfully explained that he was trying to inhale the fake blood into his sinuses, so it would look better as it came out of his mouth and nose.
Mears: I go, "You are far too committed for this."
  • Star-Making Role: For Danielle Panabaker. She found success with Sky High (2005), but this film showed how effectively she could play a relatable and realistic Girl Next Door while still having the looks to be a beauty pageant contestant. She's considered one of modern horror's Scream Queens starting from this movie, and she'd ride the success into a lucrative career in the next several years.
  • Stealth Sequel: Though promoted as a remake, writers Damian Shannon & Mark Swift have described the film as being more akin to a loose sequel and "soft reboot" to the original series. In addition to recreating the climax of the first film in its opening scene, the film alludes the events of ''Part 2'' by featuring a wheelchair and brown sweater in Jason's lair.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants:
    • Director Marcus Nispel came up with the idea of the marijuana farm during filming.
    • Richard Burgi (Sheriff Bracke) wasn't cast until 12 hours before filming.
