Trivia / Blood+

  • Acting for Two:
    • The English dub has a lot of this going on.
      • Kari Wahlgren does the voices of both Saya and Diva.
      • David Rasner voices Lewis, Akihiro Okamura, and James Ironside
      • Wally Wingert voices George Miyagusuku, Nathan Mahler, and Amshel Goldsmith.
      • Olivia Hack voices Mao Jahana and Irene
      • Dave Wittenberg voices both Solomon Goldsmith and Karman
      • Crispin Freeman voices Hagi, Joel Goldschmidt VI, and Van Argiano
      • Steve Blum voices Moses and Aston Collins.
    • An odd example in the original, Akiko Yajima voices both Diva and Riku and the former rapes and murders the latter.
  • Colbert Bump: Received one (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the franchise) after YouTube animator Narmak created did a parody anime opening of Spongebob Squarepants using the music of the third opening of Blood+, “Colors of the Heart”, as a popular meme is to anime-ify a western cartoon, often through parody anime openings.
  • Creator's Oddball: Blood+ is the only anime that Hans Zimmer and Mark Mancina have done music for, which certainly stands out since they're Household Names for soundtracks of movies from the West.
  • Dueling Shows: Was aired in the US back to back with another vampire anime, Trinity Blood.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Good luck finding a hard copy of the series. The first and second half on media have long been out of print and Season 1 is the only season to get released on DVD individually. The series is also currently unavailable for streaming anywhere. The series did get a Blu-Ray boxset in 2020 to celebrate its 15th anniversary…but only in Japan.
  • Real-Life Relative: Played straight with Saya and Diva in the Latin American Spanish dub, since their dub actresses are, in fact, siblings Gaby and Xóchitl Ugarte, respectively. Solomon is played by their real-life brother, Víctor Ugarte.
  • No Export for You:
    • The gaiden games stayed in Asia.
    • The light novel sequel, Blood #, has yet to be released outside of Japan, nevermind that it seems that barely anyone has heard of it.
  • Sequel Gap: Blood# was released 12 years after the original anime's premiere in Japan.
  • Star-Making Role:
    • Saya was Eri Kitamura's first famous role.
    • While already a very well known voice actor, this was also Ben Diskin’s first anime.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Early in production, the Chiropterans would resemble their counterparts from Blood: The Last Vampire, but their design wouldn't work for a TV anime, so they got redesigned.
    • Saya's early design once had long hair, but it was shortened in the final version. The long hair was given to Diva.
