Written By: Mark Edward Edens

Continuing from Night of the Sentinels, Part 1, just as Storm is opening the door to a room full of armed guards, Wolverine stops her, having smelled the gun oil thanks to his animal-like nose; Storm ambushes the guards with her powers, clearing the way to the files, where they all begin to destroy them. When Beast is wasting too much time deleting the computer files, Storm fries the computer instead before extinguishing the fires from burning the paper copies. As they escape and rejoin Cyclops and the others outside, they are ambushed by the Sentinels. When Wolverine tries to attack one, he's flanked by another, forcing Morph to dive at him to save him from the Sentinel's attack, though it hits Morph instead. The pain of Morph being hit is felt by Jean through Cerebro back at the X-Mansion, and when Professor X checks for Morph himself with Cerebro, he senses nothing...

The Blackbird returns to the X-Mansion, while the returning X-Men process their emotions about the comrades lost during the mission. Storm cries as she looks back at the seats where Beast and Morph had been when they first left on the mission, while Wolverine is furious at Cyclops for abandoning them. It was revealed that while Morph was fatally wounded by the Sentinels, Beast was knocked into the electrified fence and electrocuted, knocking him out and allowing him to be captured.

Meanwhile, the female President believes the X-Men had good reason for destroying the files; she consults with the man in charge, Peter Henry Gyrich, before he returns to Detroit. Jubilee is being held hostage at the Sentinel factory there with their maker, Bolivar Trask.

Cyclops goes to speak to Jubilee's parents, knowing that they would call the Mutant Control Agency and send a Sentinel after him after he left. When confronted by it, he blows its arm off, forcing the wounded Sentinel to return to base for repairs; this allows the X-Men to follow it back to the factory, where they manage to rescue Jubilee and cause serious damage to the Sentinels as well.

As a result of that, Jubilee decides to move into the X-Mansion and join the X-Men, but not before giving a final goodbye to her foster parents before moving into her new home.

Night of the Sentinels Part 2 provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Henry Gyrich started out as a bureaucratic opponent to the Avengers in the comics. Here, he is kidnapping mutant teenagers.
  • And This Is for...: "This one's for you, Morph!"
  • Batman Gambit: After visiting Jubilee's foster parents, Scott is attacked by a Sentinel. He planned for this, though, and blasts one of its arms off. When the Sentinel returns to its base for repairs, the team is already in place to follow it.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The team attacks the Sentinel facility just as Jubilee is surrounded.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Jubilee goes to live at the mansion full time, joining the X-Men, but she promises to keep in touch with her foster parents. However, Morph is presumed dead, and Beast is still in jail, while the X-Men's fight against the Sentinels has only begun.
  • Commuting on a Bus: Beginning with this episode, Beast is in federal custody. He will be appearing off and on for the rest of the season.
  • Computer Equals Monitor: Storm, in a hurry to destroy the Mutant Control Agency's electronic records, zaps the computer monitor. Justified by her use of lightning, which quite probably caused a power surge that fried the computer and its hard drive as well.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The X-Men were no match for the numerous Sentinel reinforcements that arrived.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The episode cuts back to the mansion just before Morph is blasted. When the fight scene is later shown in full in flashback, this happens again and this time it cuts to Wolverine's reaction shot instead.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Wolverine is devastated by Morph's death and blames it on Cyclops.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Morph pushes Wolverine out of the way as the Sentinels open fire.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Cyclops uses this as his reasoning for leaving his teammates behind as a command decision. When he feels a pang of guilt at the end of the episode, questioning if he did the right thing despite that, Jean reassures him that Beast and Morph did what they had to do as well.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: A Sentinel demands Cyclops surrender. He obliges... before taking off his glasses.
  • Is the Answer to This Question "Yes"?: After Jubilee's foster mother asks if she'll visit, she replies "Does a mall babe eat chili fries?"
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The group of thugs who try to fight Wolverine when he reveals he is a mutant then try to pick a fight with Cyclops, lifting up his glasses and causing him to release an energy blast that blows up the pool table. They quickly realize they're out of their depth, put the glasses back on Cyclops and get the hell out of there.
  • Manly Tears: Beast after Morph dies.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: Cyclops makes sure to stress that his team isn't to hurt the guards.
  • Never Say "Die": Morph was said to not be alive like Beast, but not dead.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Subverted. The team is forced to flee, leaving Beast to be captured and Morph for dead.
  • Oh, Crap!: Xavier when he can no longer sense Morph's thoughts.
  • Properly Paranoid: The President suspects the X-Men had a good reason to break into the registration facility, so she cancels government support.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Well, that was the intent. Morph is killed during the first fight with the Sentinels to demonstrate how much Darker and Edgier this show is than prior Marvel cartoons. However, Morph became unexpectedly popular with viewers, so he was brought back in Season 2.
  • Shout-Out: "Hey, tin woodsmen! I'm sending you back to Oz in pieces!"
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Wolverine condemns Cyclops for leaving Beast and Morph behind.
  • You Wouldn't Hit a Guy with Glasses: Scott interrupts a possible Bar Brawl between Wolverine and a thug. The thug warns him to back off, so Scott invokes this trope. The thug tries to pull off Scott's sunglasses, leading to a pool table suddenly being demolished.
Thug: Put 'em back on, please!
