Recap / The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius S 1 E 6

Go To

When a heatwave strikes Retroville, Jimmy enhances Carl's sunblock into an SPF-9000 to freeze the sun and make it snow, but it backfires when it turns Retroville into a second ice age.

"Jimmy on Ice" provides examples of:

  • Didn't Think This Through: Jimmy doesn't realize until too late that Carl's SPF-50 has a consequence of quantumly enhancing its contents, as told by the warning label on the back of the bottle.
Jimmy: Huh. They really oughta put something like that in bold print!
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Jimmy gets two in this episode. When Carl mentions he likely sweated off his sunscreen, leading to him getting a sunburn, Jimmy realizes the brand Carl uses isn't waterproof and goes to collect some to remove the sunscreen-based cloud. Later when he finds out most of the water in Retroville is frozen, he gets his usual Brain Blast moment and realizes he can use human sweat instead since it doesn't freeze as quickly.
  • Exposed to the Elements: The first of many to show Jimmy and the others perfectly fine with wearing short sleeved and sleeveless clothes in cold weather. Cindy averts this as she is shown shivering in her pool and stays there even when it freezes solid and traps her within.
  • Glacial Apocalypse: Jimmy is hoping for a snow day and decides to cool off the atmosphere with a giant bottle of sunblock. After the kids play in the snow for a day, Jimmy wakes up to discover it's -30 degrees Fahrenheit outside and that he caused a second ice age. The adults are leaving to go hunt for meat like they're nomadic cavemen, and the townsfolk think they need to sacrifice Jimmy to stop the snow.
  • Heat Wave: Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen are suffering from one at the beginning of the episode.
  • Human Sacrifice: Early on Sheen suggests sacrificing Jimmy to the giant glacier in order to placate it. Luckily this idea is dropped quickly.
  • Noodle Incident: Hugh and his hunting party apparently only see Jimmy and Goddard (mistaking them for a caribou due to low visibility and the fact that Jimmy has his hands up trying to wave at his dad), and lose them in short order. But there must have been a real caribou out there because Hugh is later seen having served up its meat to the Neutron household.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jimmy's reaction when he wakes up the following day to see the temperature dropped below normal and he is literally snowed in.

Intent on beating Cindy and Libby in the talent show, Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen start a band complete with musical instruments that play music if the user thinks them. But instead of concentrating on their act, egos soon rise and the boys end up in a heated argument over each other's creative differences.

"Battle of the Band" provides examples of:

  • Arc Words: From Hugh: "You kids, good luck tonight, and remember, have fun with it."
  • Band Episode: Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen form a band called the "Llama Lords of Science" to compete in the school talent show using instruments that are powered by thought. Initially in it for the fun, the early success of the band goes to their heads and they decide they want to go in their own separate creative directions, leading to infighting. Hugh's repeated advice of "Good luck tonight and remember, have fun with it!" snaps them out of it, but not before they threw out their instruments in frustration, forcing them to improvise with Carl blowing a giant snot bubble to the audience's disgust.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen lose the competition hard (as in, earning 8th place when there were only seven acts), but remain friends.
  • Dissension Remorse: Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen immediately stop their feud when Hugh comes in to remind them to "have fun with it," realizing they've been so focused on becoming rock stars they forgot about their act and their goal of beating Cindy and Libby in the show.
Jimmy: Wha...wait a minute! Sheen, Carl, what are we doing?!
Sheen: Well, I was about to strangle Carl.
Carl: Yeah, and I was gonna slap Sheen in the back of the head.
Jimmy: Look at us, we’re best friends! And ever since we started this band, we've been arguing and fighting! We're so obsessed with becoming rock stars that we've forgotten the real reason we did this: To beat Cindy and Libby!
    All: YEAH!
  • Epic Fail: Jimmy and his band are given eighth place in the talent show... which only had seven acts.
  • Feud Episode: The very first one between Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen, over their creative differences.
  • Foreshadowing: The boys each thinking of a name for their band with their respective tastes before Jimmy mixes them together to form "The Llama Lords of Science" is the first sign of their egos beginning to rise after their classmates see them rehearsing.
  • Garage Band: The Llama Lords of Science, the band Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen form for the show.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A few to The Beatles. The Episode Title Card is stylized to look like the band's logo, Carl impersonates Ringo Starr complete with a Scouse accent, Cool Shades and bowl cut, and the boys start arguing over their creative differences which is how the band broke up.
    • Jimmy gets the idea to form a band after seeing a poster for Outta Sync, which is akin to *NSYNC.
    • The music played by the Llama Lords of Science is to the tune of Green Day's "Warning".
    • Cindy and Libby's act is a dance routine from Riverstomp, which sounds a lot like Riverdance.
    • At one point, Jimmy considers changing the band name to "The Jimmy Neutron Experience".
