Go To

Matthew "Director" McMahon at Berlint City Hall accompanies Yor when gets called with a personal meeting with the Gardens' Shopkeeper in his personal home garden, where he assigns her her next mission, to escort the surviving members of the Gretcher Crime family, as he owes them a bit of gratitude for their past actions. The Shopkeeper tells Yor that the surviving members of the Gretcher family will be traveling by ship out of the country, and she is to escort them safely. When Yor asks how will she keep her family form getting suspicious since she'll be gone for several days, the Shopkeeper says that her cover will be accompanying the Director (whose cover identity is Yor's supervisor at the Berlint City Hall) on an official trip out of town.

While out shopping, Anya asks Loid for a chance to play a raffle for passes to a cruise held in the department store they're in. Through her mind reading, Anya discovers it's been rigged by the employee running it, and despite the odds, she ends up winning the passes to the cruise. Back at the Forger's residence, Anya tells Yor that she won passes to a cruise ship, which coincidentally is the same ship Yor will be traveling on during her assignment, which excites Anya, as she will want to help her on her mission to protect her clients from assassins. Loid for his part assures Yor that he'll keep Anya entertained while Yor goes on her business trip. Loid remembers asking Sylvia for time off to go with Anya on the ship, and she lets him go, planning to overwork him when he returns from the trip, though she also mentions that for the sake of Operation Strix, he needs to take Anya on vacation, to better keep the cover of a family man.

On the day of departure, the Forgers get to port where the passengers get a grand Welcome, and while Loid takes Anya to have fun, Yor excuses herself to meet her coworkers from City Hall. Among the other passengers, a band of unassuming assassins follow close by. Aboard the ship Anya gets excited at the amenities, which include a shopping mall, a gaming room, and a theater, though she becomes disappointed at her simple 3rd class accommodations, while Yor and her companions travel in 1st class, though she becomes happy when Loid lets her sleep on the top bunk, and offers to take her explore she ship.

In Cabin 3085, Yor and her coworkers have a meeting with their clients, Furseal Grey and his wife Shaty and their baby who are assured everything will be alright. When the manager and his two subordinates, which are just two regular civil servants brought along as cover, take Furseal out of the cabin, to discuss business, and surveil the ship, Yor stays behind with Shaty. Back at the cabin, Yor quickly checks the cabin to make sure it's secure enough and that there are enough escape routes if worse comes to pass. Shaty tells Yor that she's tired of always being on the run, and is more than happy to give up the money and power that comes with being in organized crime if it means living a peaceful life with her son.

As Anya and Loid explore the ship, he keeps a lookout for anything and anyone suspicious, but when Anya calls him out for being so serious, Loid says that for the sake of Anya he will relax and have fun and proclaims they're going to the theater. Back at the Greys' cabin, Yor reluctantly allows Shaty to take her son out onto the deck for some sun and fresh air, where while in disguise, Yor assures Shaty that she will do her best to protect her and her baby, which Shaty says is named Gram, like her father and who cries when Yor tries to hold him, and gives him back. Meanwhile, in a dark control room, a suspicious-looking man is seen listening in on the bugs planted all over the ship, and when he hears the name Shaty Grey, and Graham, he checks the ship's manifest and deduces that his targets, Olka and Gram Gretcher are staying in Cabin 3085.

The episode includes the following Tropes:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: Visuals of the outside of the Lorelei is rendered in 3D, despite the series otherwise is standard 2D animation.
  • Badass Decay: In-Universe. The Shopkeeper was concerned that Yor was losing her edge as an assassin after getting a family of her own (which prompted him to attack her with hedge-clippers). Though from a single second of losing her footing, her skills are far from diminished.
  • Benevolent Boss: Invoked. Sylvia allows Loid to go on the cruise trip so his daughter will enjoy herself while assuring him that he'll be paid. An employee comments that she's only agreeing as to quell the rumors of being a Bad Boss.
  • Black Comedy: On the first day of her cruise adventure, Anya tells her dad that she wants to see everything before the cruise sinks. She says this while oblivious to the reactions of the other passengers.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Anya throws a temper tantrum and threatens to go bad so her parents will let her go on the cruise.
  • Calm Before the Storm: While Yor and the Director go to try and convince Shaty and Fursel Grey, two wealthy investors to finance a civil project, Anya and Loid explore the cruise ship's amenities. After conversing for some time, Yor and Shaty spend part of the afternoon on the top deck, where Shaty reveals that her son's real name is Gram, after his father, who was killed when Hapoon became the top crime boss. The final shot of the episode reveals a mysterious man in his control room listening on the bugs he planted on the ship, and when he hears the names Shaty Gray and Gram, he deduces that his targets, Olka Gretcher and her son Gram are staying on cabin 3085.
  • Commonality Connection: Yor gains a moment of connection with Olka after she expresses that she's done living like a gangster's wife and is now interested in living a peaceful life with her son. Much like how Yor is considering leaving the killing business to spend time with her pretend family.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Anya wins passes for the same luxury cruise ship that Yor is assigned to by her superiors. It means the family can stay together for the next few episodes.
  • Demoted to Extra: Bond is unable to go on the cruise with the Forger Family so he has to stay at home with Uncle Franky who isn't too pleased with playing babysitter again.
  • Escort Mission: The Garden's Shopkeeper assigns Thorn Princess the mission to protect the surviving members of the Gretcher Crime family as they're smuggled out of the country.
  • Fixing the Game: The host of the raffle competition smugly thinks to himself that he placed the winning ticket on top of the box and intends to have his associate pick out the ticket so the two can go on the cruise. All of this gets overheard by Anya who wins the ticket herself.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: Anya gets into this after knowing Yor has a Thorn Princess mission on the Lorelei, debating whether she should do on the cruise despite the possibility of interfering with Yor's work. Unlike most cases, the Good Angel gets persuaded by the Bad Angel really quickly, because Anya, after all, is staved for entertainment.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: In the original TV release, Central Mall's raffle signs are mostly in romanized Japanese. Even the rather simple "Luxury" is written as "Gouka". However, later releases have fixed that scene for the most part with the prize list completely in English; however the smaller pamphlets below the raffle counter continue to call the event a "Daichusenkai."
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: Anya is so excited about the luxurious amenities of the cruise ship, to the tune of grandiose background music, but when she's disappointed at her cramped 3rd class accommodations, the music quickly slows and stops.
  • Mob War: A major one took place offscreen as Olka Gretcher and her son, Gram, are the only survivors of the Gretcher Crime family, who are fleeing Ostania in the hopes of living a peaceful life. Too bad that their main rivals followed them to make sure the Gretchers are completely wiped out.
  • Mood Whiplash: Yor awkwardly promises to do her best to protect Olka during their cruise ship which she and her son Gram appreciate. But the delightful moment is ruined for the audience with a Wham Shot revealing that their conversation was overheard via listening device which tips off the enemy crime villain about Olka's secret suite.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Yuri thinks to himself that he'll use any excuse he can find to execute Loid.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Yor follows through with Olka/Shaty's request to step outside for some fresh air. Them stepping out and talking with each other about her husband Gram gets picked up by the enemy crime syndicate who placed a listening device under their chair.
  • One Last Job: Yor considers making her new cruise mission the last job she'll take as the Thorn Princess.
  • I Owe You My Life: The Shopkeeper mentions that he owed a grand life debt to the boss who was recently murdered. It's because of this that he wants to repay his debt by having the Thorn Princess watch over his wife and baby.
  • Punny Name: The two other staff Matthew also brought to the Lorelei are called Heymann and Vides, which sounds like "A" and "B", underlying their lack of importance.
  • Quivering Eyes: Anya does this after she finds out that Yor's "work" on the Lorelei was a Thorn Princess mission. Although her It Amused Me tendencies quickly overcame her worries.
  • Sent Into Hiding: After surviving the family massacre, Olka and her infant son were forced into hiding to protect themselves from her husband's enemies, even getting a makeover to hide her appearance. The next step is being sent to another country via cruise ship.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Played for Drama. After the rest of her family was wiped out in a Mob War, Olka decides that she's done with organized crime and decides to take her infant son and flee the country with the hopes of living a peaceful life.
    • Played for Laughs with Anya. After seeing her abysmal third-class suite, she tries to walk away believing her true suite is somewhere else.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: While out on the top deck, Olka tells Yor that her son's real name is Gram, who is named after his late father, who was killed by a rival crime syndicate.
  • Wham Shot: The close-up shot of the bug underneath the sun lounger, telling us that Yor and Olka's conversation has been spied upon.
  • Wingding Eyes: Yuri's pupils turn into a pair of stars as Yor invites him for dinner.
