After their terrifying encounter with the Ape-Men, Spear struggles to nurse Fang back to health while simultaneously trying to keep her from falling victim to predators in her helpless state.

This episode provides the following tropes:

  • Artistic License – Biology: The bugs that attack Spear and Fang have vertebrate-like mouths full of sharp teeth, rather than pincer-like jaws that real arthropods have.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: The arthropods' shells are too hard for Spear to pierce, but he is able to kill them by attacking their soft underbellies.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: In the cave, Spear and Fang are attacked by a swarm of arthropods (resembling euthycarcinoids) larger than Spear's fists.
  • Circling Vultures: As Spear tries to nurture Fang back to health in the ape-men's arena, a flock of vultures show up to feed on the corpses of the ape-men. One of them attempts to snatch a bite out of Fang, but Spear fights it off.
  • Continuity Nod: As Fang begins to recover, the final day when she's almost completely healed shows that she's still having trouble with her right leg, aka the exact leg that Krog broke during their battle in the last episode.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Once Fang is back on her feet, she slaughters dozens of wild dogs, biting and swallowing them, stomping on them and sweeping them off with her tail.
  • Disney Death: Fang is still alive. However, she is seriously injured and thus needs Spear to nurse her back to health.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The eyes of the wild dogs glow red in the dark.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: We're at one point given a close-up view of Spear's hands and can see that they're absolutely covered in blisters, which shows just how much pain and effort he's willing to go through for Fang.
  • Heinous Hyena: A pack of hyena-like scavengers follow Spear and Fang for days. The episode ends with Spear and Fang fighting off the pack together.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode picks up right where "Rage of the Ape-Men" left off. The corpses of the apes that Spear slaughtered are still lying around.
  • Improvised Weapon: Spear invents brass knuckles by lacing his fingers through the legs of dead spine-covered bugs.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Once Fang is back on her feet and starts tearing apart the wild dogs left and right, the rest of the pack flees in terror.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: The scavengers that follow Spear and Fang have the head shape of African wild dogs, the hunched back of spotted hyenas, and tufted tails similar to lions. Their vocalization is a mix of domestic dog barks and spotted hyena giggles.
  • Power Fist: Spear makes an Improvised Weapon out of the spiked carapace of the arthropods he killed earlier, grabbing two of them like brass knuckles and fighting off the wild dog pack with them.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The wild dogs have red, pupil-less eyes that give them a menacing appearance.
  • Scavengers Are Scum: Spear has to protect the injured Fang both from vultures and from hyena-like canines.
  • She's Back: Fang, once fully healed near the end. She and Spear face off the army of wild dogs and proudly scream/roar together as the episode closes.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: The wild dogs follow Spear and Fang for days.
  • Super-Strength: Downplayed. Spear is able to push Fang, a tyrannosaur weighing several tons, onto an improvised sled, and also drag the sled for several days to a safe place, but he visibly struggles with both tasks.:
  • Too Dumb to Live: The wild dogs have almost no sense of self preservation and continue to throw themselves at Spear despite dying like en mass. Their numbers would overwhelmed if Fang hadn't intervened but it doesn't change that many of them would have still died.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The promotion for the second half of the season revealed that Fang was still alive before the airing of this episode.
  • Victorious Roar: The episode ends with Spear and Fang both roaring victoriously as they successfully fought off the wild dog pack.
  • Zerg Rush: Both the arthropods and the wild dogs attack in large numbers.
