Recap / Phineas And Ferb Its No Picnic

Go To

When the rest of the kids have things to do, Isabella plans to have a picnic with Phineas so she can get a romantic moment with him. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz (who has spent his alimony check for the month) invents a Teleport-inator to get rid of City Hall, leaving him with no money to send Vanessa to a movie marathon.

Tropes:

  • Beard of Sorrow: Doof has a five-o'clock shadow because of his depression. This negates his complaint about not being able to grow facial hair in "Crack That Whip!".
  • Chekhov's Gun: Perry uses the coffee cup (see below) to heat up his trap (which is made of non-dairy creamer) and escape.
  • Complaining About Things You Haven't Paid For: When Monogram tells Perry that Doofenshmirtz is low on funds, Monogram tells him to buy Doof a cup of coffee using petty cash. Later, when Doof takes a sip from the coffee, he gags and says, "What is this, decaf? It's like you don't even know me!"
  • Continuity Nod:
    • A subtle one. Two of the available options on the dial to set the Teleport-inator's destination location are "My Pants" and "Easter Island".
    • Candace is surprised when Vanessa tells her that her father was raised by ocelots.
  • The Dentist Episode: On Ferb's side, he has to go to the dentist prompting Phineas to postpone their big idea until later on.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: For Isabella, the Teleport-inator zaps everything but herself and Phineas away, so she can finally have a picnic with no one else around.
  • Epic Fail: Doof attempts to teleport Vanessa to the movie theater showing the Grievance films, but she ends up in a theater showing the Ducky Momo film festival. It's not a complete loss, as Candace is there, too.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The locations on Doof's Teleport-inator are actually legible and include:
  • Given Name Reveal: Baljeet's last name, previously thought to be "Rai" but previously confirmed by Word of God on X (formerly known as Twitter), is revealed to be Tjinder.
  • Imagine Spot: When Doof describes Charlene's vacation, we see still photos of what he imagines her doing: things like zip lining, kayaking, and hula dancing, all surrounded by hundreds of paper dollar bills.
  • Kill It with Fire: Said almost word for word by Buford when he and Baljeet accidentally mix their families' vindaloo and bitterballen and briefly wonder if they should try them together.
  • Late to the Realization: Doofenshmirtz tells Perry the Platypus that he has no way of getting Vanessa to the movies, and he explains that he spent his money on the Teleport-inator. Perry then realizes that Doof can use the Inator to send Vanessa to the movies as Doof keeps rambling. He then starts counting backwards from three on his fingers until Doofenshmirtz finally figures it out.
  • Left the Background Music On: When Doofenshmirtz tries to fire the Teleport-inator the second time, the same dramatic sting from the first time plays, but Doofenshmirtz says that the moment is gone. He then tells the four musicians who are performing the background music to take the rest of the day off. The musicians are actually the singers of the Evil Jingle from "Attack of the 50 Foot Sister".
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: When Candace sees she has free time to go see a movie, she says, "Cadet Flynn is out, PEACE!"
  • Mirrors Reflect Everything: The Teleport-inator shoots a beam at a mirror, which reflects it back on the Teleport-inator, sending it (along with Doofenshmirtz and Perry) to the picnic amusement park.
  • Nightmare Face: From the show that brought you Creepy Candy, comes Eerie Izzy.
  • Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo: Doof lists off the titles of the Grievance films: The Grievance, Grievance 2: The Gripe, Grievance 3: Bone to Pick, and Grievance 4: Revenge of the Italian Jug Band.
  • Orbital Shot: Candace has one as she witnesses the picnic amusement park.
  • Rearrange the Song: An In-Universe example: The Stinger shows Candace and Vanessa performing an uptempo, pop-punk version of the Ducky Momo theme song.
  • Shout-Out: Hey, you got vindaloo in my bitterballen!
  • Squee: Happens twice when Isabella discovers that she's alone with Phineas.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: "Wow, even Perry's gone! But that's pretty normal."
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Candace’s response when Vanessa assumes her enjoyment of Ducky Momo is entirely ironic.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Turns out Isabella actually does end up having a picnic alone with Phineas.
  • True Art Is Incomprehensible: Parodied when two patrons are in an art gallery trying to understand an abstract. When the Teleport-inator zaps a table and flowerpot in front of it, they understand it now.
  • The Unintelligible: Ferb is magically teleported from the dentist to the backyard, but he still has procaine in his mouth, so when he says his one line he says (and this is exactly how the closed-captioning spells it), " Al flabahem abla flapabla."
  • Valley Girl: Isabella talks this way when attempting to have a picnic with Phineas.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We don't get to find out what happened to the amusement park or Buford, Baljeet and Ferb after they all get hit by the teleporter.
