Recap / Phineas And Ferb Candace Gets Busted

Go To

When Linda and Lawrence go off on a trip, they place Candace in charge, but under the condition that she not host any parties in the process. So she invites Stacy and Jenny for an "intimate get-together," but it soon evolves into a gigantic party filled with almost everyone from Danville. Meanwhile, Doof has created a Go-Away-inator to get rid of a condo building that has been obstructing his view of a Drive-In Theater.

Tropes:

  • Auto-Tune: If you listen closely during the song, you can hear Jeremy singing "Candace party" this way.
  • Complexity Addiction: When explaining his plan to erase a condominium blocking his view into the drive-in theater, Doofenshmirtz says that he could just move his seat to a window a few feet away that has an unblocked view of the theater, but he reasons that he'd then have to move the table and lamp besides the seat as well, and the lamp is plugged into the only electrical outlet in the room (even though the lamp's cord is shown to be long enough to accommodate if he decided to move the table).
  • Crowd Song: "Candace Party."
  • Dance Line: Phineas and Ferb lead a conga line to the kitchen.
  • A Day in the Spotlight: This is a rare episode in which Phineas and Ferb don't build anything or contribute much to the plot, since the main plotline is focused on Candace.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: If you pause at the right time just as Doof pulls the string on the Go-Away-Inator, you can read out the list of "undesirable places" on the machine's wheel: Burbank, Stonehenge, "Under the Rug", "Over There", 3rd & Main, Albuquerquenote , Montvale, and "My Pants".
  • Gag Dub: Doof references this In-Universe; he likes watching drive-in theater movies from his building, but since the sound doesn't reach him, he makes up his own dialogue for the movies. However, ever since a new condominium was built between his building and the theater, all his made-up dialogue has just been about the same thing: the building.
    Doofenshmirtz: I am a condominium. I'm just standing there. [...] I'm a building.
  • Gilligan Cut: After the Go-Away-inator hits Candace's party, Ferb hopes that it got sent to "someplace nice." Turns out it got sent to Doof's pants.
  • Gratuitous Rap: Ashley Tisdale, who is better known for being an actress and a singer, gets to show off her white girl flow in "Candace Party".
  • Home-Early Surprise: Linda and Lawrence were going to an antique showerhead convention overnight; by the time they reach the airport, Linda calls Candace and hears she is throwing a party despite telling her not to. It is that point Linda tells Lawrence they have to cancel their trip and head right back to the house, much to their dismay.
  • Insistent Terminology: "It's not a party; it's an intimate get-together!"note
    Don't call it that! It's just a get-together!note
    (phone rings)
Phineas: Hi, Mom! What? (covers his right ear) What? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over Candace's intimate get-together!
  • Mundane Made Awesome: All the party-goers get overexcited watching Phineas and Ferb just sit on the couch eating potato chips.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Implied by Perry's weary chatter, possibly from him realizing that he indirectly got Candace busted.
  • Mythology Gag: The song that Jeremy and the Incidentals sing was originally written for "The Best Lazy Day Ever!" before it was replaced by "Do-Nothing Day".
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Perry sending Candace's party from Doof's pants back to the backyard, which results in her getting busted.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Candace tries to tell her mother on the phone that her "party" is still an intimate get-together, but the crowd chanting, "Candace party!" does her no favors.
    Candace: Shut up!!
  • Oh Wait, This Is My Grocery List: Doof has apparently mixed up his dry cleaning wheel with the one for the Go-Away-inator, resulting in him accidentally sending Candace's intimate get-together into his pants.
  • Pulling the Rug Out: Perry pulls the rug from underneath Doofenshmirtz's Go-Away-Inator just before it fires, causing it to miss its intended target and fire at Candace's party instead.
  • A Rare Sentence: Vanessa bemoans that "A platypus has tied me up in my own pants!" is not an unusual thing for her to hear.
  • Seen It All:
Doofenshmirtz: Oh, Vanessa! Thank goodness you're here! A platypus has tied me up in my own pants!
Vanessa: How did my life get to the point where that is not a strange sentence to me?
    (Beat)
Doofenshmirtz: "I am your daughter. I will stop being sarcastic and untie you."
  • Spelling Song: "We're talkin' I to the N to the T-I-M-A-T-E get together!"
    (WUT?!)
I to the N to the T-I-M-A-T-E get together!
    That's right!
    It's not a party!
  • Spoiler Title: Guess what happens to Candace at the end? Averted in Latin America however, where the episode's title is "La Fiesta de Candace" ("Candace's Party").
  • Stealth Pun: After Perry fires off the Go-Away-inator, it hits the party and transports them into Doof's pants. In other words, he had a party in his pants. Technically, he has an intimate get-together in his pants, which arguably works even better.
  • Tuckerization: Jenny's cousin Sara is named for and designed after the series' casting director, Sara Jane Sherman.
  • Voodoo Shark: Played for laughs and lampshaded. Doofenshmirtz realizes that he accidentally added "my pants" into the list of undesirable locations on his Go-Away-Inator wheel because he mixes it up with his dry-cleaning wheel... but then he questions why he has a dry-cleaning wheel to begin with.
  • Wild Teen Party: A variant in that it starts off as an intimate get-together, but it accidentally becomes a party against Candace's wishes.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: At first, when Doof's -inator sends the party away, Candace thinks she's saved by the mysterious force that causes Phineas and Ferb's inventions to vanish. Then said -inator sends the party back to the backyard, leading to her getting busted. Also, a punny variation on the trope, as Lawrence is wearing a shower head as a hat, and he asks Linda...
Lawrence: Would you like to yank my chain?
    Linda: Yes. Yes, I would.
  • Yiddish as a Second Language: Doof asks Perry to "be a mensch" and hit the reverse button on his inator.
  • You Are Grounded!: As the title implies, the episode ends with Candace getting busted, all because her intimate get-together became a party.
Phineas: Candace, if it makes you feel any better, you accidentally threw the most outrageous party of the summer!
Candace: (sadly sauntering up the stairs to her room) Thanks, guys. See you in a week.
