Recap / One Hundred And One Dalmatian Street S 1 E 27 London We Have A Problem

Go To

Dylan meets Hunter and befriends him.

This episode features examples of:

  • Casual Danger Dialog: Dawkins's response to being sucked up by Hunter's weapon is simply to say he's going to tell their mother.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Dylan uses his space helmet to foil Hunter's plan in the end.
  • Continuity Nod: We see a picture of Pongo and Perdita's wedding, right down to Roger and Anita's wedding taking place in the background. Roger's music sheets and Anita's reading glasses can also be seen in the chest Doug looks in.
  • Darker and Edgier: The story of this two parter is easily darker than that of previous episodes, with Hunter directly antagonizing the Dalmatians by capturing them and attempting to ship them off to Switzerland, as well as the reveal of who Hunter is working for: his great aunt, Cruella de Vil.
  • Dramatic Thunder: When Dylan finds Dorothy and Hunter in Hunter's tower.
  • False Friend: Hunter pretends to befriend Dylan so he'll be let into the house.
  • Gass Hole: Deja Vu farts into Dylan's helmet while using it as a pool.
  • Groin Attack: One of the Dimitris seemingly does this when they attack the postman, though the man doesn't react in any special way (though from the screen's angle, it's most likely his butt).
  • "Here's Johnny!" Homage: The scene where Hunter sticks his head through the doggie door while chasing the Dalmatians.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Hunter ends up trapped in the shipping container he was going to trap the pups in.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Dylan. Hunter quickly wins him over when they show a common interest in outer space and he doesn't listen to either Dorothy or Dolly when they try to warn him about Hunter.
  • Imagine Spot: Dylan has one of being the first dog on Mars when he starts playing with his new space helmet.
  • It's Personal: Cruella's plan seems to be targeting Dalmatians who are directly related to Pongo and Perdita.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Hunter's reaction to learning that the Dalmatian family live on Dalmatian Street: "Duh!"
  • Leitmotif: When Delilah and Doug recognize the de Vil Scent on Hunter's remote and when Hunter calls Cruella while trapped in the shipping container, an instrumental version of the song "Cruella de Vil" can be heard.
  • Mailman vs. Dog: The Dimitris attack the postman as soon as he shows up, to Dylan's chagrin.
  • Multi-Part Episode: The episode is split into two parts.
  • My Dog, What Have I Done?: Dylan realizes the error of his ways after Hunter sucks up nearly all the puppies due to him allowing Hunter to enter their home, and he apologizes to Dolly after he saves her.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • A photo of Pongo and Perdita is shown.
    • When Delilah and Doug realize Hunter is working for Cruella, the melody of the song "Cruella de Vil" can be heard.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Hunter succeeds in sucking up the puppies and would have succeeded in sucking up Dolly too if Dylan hadn't used his helmet to block the puppy pump. And even though Dylan and Dolly work together to kick him out of the house, Hunter would have won anyway if the two elder pups hadn't used the trigger word of "DINNER!!" to get the puppies to free themselves.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Dylan befriending Hunter causes the episode's conflict.
  • Oh, Crap!: Delilah and Doug have this reaction at the very end upon recognizing the scent they got off of Hunter's controller as Cruella de Vil's.
  • Pilot: According to series director Miklos Weigert, this episode began as the pilot episode before later being remade to air later in the season, since it needed a bit of adjustment to fit into the big story arc.
  • Properly Paranoid: Both Dorothy and Dolly are completely right about Hunter being a bad kid, but Dylan doesn't realize until it's too late.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Subverted. It seems like Dylan's going to reach this when the Triple D use his new helmet as a pool, after having to watch his siblings on what was supposed to be his free "Astro-Dog Training" day, but he quickly calms down when he realizes Dorothy's been gone all day.
  • Title Drop: Dylan starts his World Wide Woof message about Dorothy being missing with the titular line.
  • Twitchy Eye: Dylan does this when he sees Triple-D use his new helmet as a pool.
  • Underwater Fart Gag: When Triple-D use Dylan's new helmet as a pool, Deja Vu cuts one in the water.
  • The Unseen: While she does appear later in the season, we do not see Cruella in this episode. When Hunter shows Dorothy to her through video call, we just hear Cruella laughing.
  • Vader Breath: This can be heard when the noise cancelling feature on Dylan's space helmet is in use.
  • Weapons That Suck: Hunter uses a vacuum cleaner-like machine to capture the puppies.
  • Wham Episode: Hunter puts his evil plan into action and is revealed to be related to Cruella, who is still alive after all these years.
  • Wham Line:
Delilah and Doug: [checks a scent] Definitely a de Vil... Cruella de Vil!
  • Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: Triple-D does this when Dylan lunges at them for bathing in his helmet.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: In the beginning it seems like Dylan's going to have an alone day to play with his new space helmet... only to have to watch his siblings when Doug and Delilah get called into work at the last minute.
