Recap / Kim Possible S 4 E 18 Homecoming Upset

Go To

After Bonnie fixes the votes to become Middleton's Homecoming Queen, after Ron is voted Homecoming King, Kim and Ron attempt to find her a new boyfriend to get her mitts off him, which unfortunately complicates their latest mission to find a missing computer programmer.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Kim clearly isn't pleased over the time Ron and Bonnie spend together and patiently puts up with it; a lot more justified this time, however, as she and Ron were dating at that point and Bonnie was doing everything in her power to rub it in. To her credit, she manages to direct almost all her anger at Bonnie and not Ron.
  • Continuity Nod: J.P Berrymore's, which was accidentally destroyed in "Car Alarm" has a grand re-opening in this episode.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Ron and Bonnie are King and Queen and thus are forced to attend a number of public events together. At one of them, Ron is holding a fire hose and Bonnie comes up from behind and surprises him with a hug. The hose picks that exact moment to turn on and shoots water all over Kim.
  • Dumbass No More: Ron notes that Brick became smarter after heading to college, as he no longer cares about Bonnie.
  • Forceful Kiss: Bonnie forces a kiss on Ron when he rejects her advances and says that Kim is the only girl for him.
  • Genre Savvy: When Kim catches Bonnie and Ron kissing, Ron insists that Bonnie planted a Forceful Kiss on him. It comes to no surprise that Kim justifiably agrees with Ron, as she knows her boyfriend – whom she's known since kindergarten – would never stoop so low.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Bonnie devolves into this as the pain of Brick Flagg breaking up with her comes to the surface.
  • Karma Houdini: Bonnie cheats her way into being the Queen (who should've been Kim) and kisses Ron right in front of Kim's eyes, and then spends the entire episode just whining. Apparently, her punishment is a cute, even if ditzy, boyfriend in her own league.
  • Love at First Sight: Bonnie and Senior Jr fell in love the first moment they met.
  • My Grandma Can Do Better Than You: After Ron scores a touchdown, Barkin derides him by saying his grandma can run faster than that. However, he also adds the results were adequate.
  • Not So Above It All: Monique smugly reminds Bonnie that Kim's boyfriend has replaced Bonnie's (the recently graduated Brick) as the star of Middleton's football team. Kim loftily says that's not what's important to her... then turns around and smugly reminds Bonnie that Ron has broken more school records than Brick ever did.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Bonnie forces a kiss on Ron just as Kim arrives on the scene. Ron (who is sitcom-savvy) assumes Kim will immediately assume the worst and be furious with him. Kim points out that she knows very well that Ron hasn't been romancing Bonnie:
Kim: No kidding! It took ya twelve stinkin' years to kiss me!
  • On the Rebound: Upon learning that the only reason Bonnie was with him was because Brick broke up with her, Ron realized that made him "the rebound guy", which he states he's never been beforenote .
  • Pair the Spares: Bonnie and Senior Jr. at the end.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Kim patiently puts up with Bonnie flirting with Ron...until Bonnie kisses him, whereupon Kim comes within seconds of beating the crap out of her.
    • Later, when Bonnie keeps rejecting every prospective boyfriend, it is Ron, who finally reaches the end of his limits and becomes brutally honest about how impossible the task of finding a boyfriend for Bonnie is. Ironically, Kim is far more patient and asks Ron to be a little sensitive, but he has had enough.
(Bonnie is crying while Ron sits next to her glaring, clearly irritated)
Kim: Didn’t crack the code yet, huh?
Wade: It might take some time but, I’ll decrypt Ricky’s computer.
Kim: That, I’m not worried about. It’s the Bonnie-Boyfriend code.
Ron: (angrily) Yeah, which frankly cannot be cracked!
      (Bonnie cries harder)
Kim: (stage whisper) Be a little sensitive!
Ron: (loudly) Well, it’s not easy!
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When Kim says that Bonnie's sitch is more important than her own mission to rescue a missing programmer, the latter completely misses Kim's snide tone.
  • Ship Tease: The episode had its fair share of Ron/Bonnie teases.
  • Something Else Also Rises: The fire hose Ron is holding starts spraying all over the place when Bonnie hugs him.
  • Stunned Silence: When Bonnie wins the title of Homecoming queen, instead of Kim, as everyone, including Barkin, had expected, initially no one is cheering for her.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Killigan has this realization when Kim pulls his nine iron away from him with a super-powered magnet built into her wrist Kimmunicator... while his golf ball is still ticking beneath his feet.
    Killigan: ...Oh no.
  • Totally Trusting Love Interest: Bonnie, having been dumped by her longtime boyfriend Brick Flagg, and jealous of Ron and Kim's Relationship Upgrade, rigs the Homecoming King and Queen election so that Bonnie will be Ron's Queen. During an obligatory community photoshoot, Bonnie, seeing Kim has arrived on the scene, kiss-ambushes Ron right in front of Kim. Ron is stammering to Kim that it wasn't his doing, but Kim is fully aware but still disappointed that he had to wait so long to kiss her, and Bonnie suddenly realizes that antagonizing a girl who is versed in multiple forms of kung fu may not be the best move. The only thing that saves Bonnie is that she breaks down in tears before Kim can give her what's coming.
Ron: Hey, I was the kissee here, not the kisser.
Kim: No kidding. It took you twelve stinkin' years to kiss me!
  • Villainous Breakdown: Bonnie ends up bawling when Kim confronts her about stealing Ron. Turns out Brick Flagg dumped her.
  • Villains Out Shopping: The villain for this episode is Señior Jr., who didn't actually kidnap the programmer; Junior hired him to find his soulmate.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Bonnie believes that after being dumped by Brick, being nominated as Ron's Homecoming queen, and kissing Kim's boyfriend, she'd be able to find love again, and make her arch-rival jealous as a bonus. Ron is not at all attracted to Bonnie and is disturbed by her advances, not to mention visibly grossed out when she plants a Forceful Kiss on him. Additionally, Kim is not jealous, but rather righteously angry at Bonnie for committing such a low act, and actually considered beating her up. It finally dawns on Bonnie that she's been bullying a highly trained martial artist who has fought supervillains, and she breaks down into a pathetic sobbing mess.
