Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Kaiju Car

Go To

Both sides of the story are in the land of giants as Chloe and Ash continue to explore Galar in the dusty city of Stow-on-Side while Goh and co brave the Kaiju Car.

Tropes in this arc include:

  • All Girls Like Ponies: Chloe gives a loving head pat to Bede's Ponyta before she departs, giving Bede an idea to point her to Glimwood Tangle to get her own pony. After a bit of soul-searching, she succeeds.
  • Behemoth Battle: What the Kaiju car is all about, and the fight in story is between Gigantamax Cinderace and Megalon.
  • The Bus Came Back: Bede is back in the main series after his battles with Goh and Ash along with Troy and Treynote . Hilary is fortunately still in Kanto and isn't back.
  • The Cameo: A certain 'Spikemuth ruffian' is mentioned by Oleana, implied to be Marnie who later appears in the Glimwood Tangle.
  • Character Development: Chloe completes her growth in regards to hating Pokémon by stating that she doesn't hate them, she just likes them differently and promises to never be that toxic and poisonous girl that caused Goh to become a broken wreck ever again.
  • Cliffhanger: The first chapter ends with Vox, in the flesh, applauding Cinderace's victory in the Kaiju Car.
  • Death Glare: Goh's only response to Vox's attempted deal.
  • Exactly What I Aimed At: Arnold misses shooting at Vox with the shrink ray, but hits the screen that Vox was emerging out of and manages to trip the giant demon.
  • Hiding in Plain Sight: Oleana has no trouble blending in the city, since she's not as recognizable as Chairman Rose
  • Kaiju: The Infinity Train focus is the Kaiju Car and the only way to fight is with a giant monster fight.
  • Manipulative Editing: Vox offers to use this to glorify Goh and crucify Chloe. Goh refuses - his feeling might be complicated, but he owes Chloe the truth.
  • Ocular Gushers: Torkoal's famous ocular soot gushers came into play with Troy and Trey's explanation of their current family situation. Chloe managed to avoid the soot that got the Ketchum boys.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Apparently Ash and Marnie sent Team Rocket blasting off again while Chloe has her heart-to-heart with Ponyta.
  • Only the Pure of Heart: Galarian Ponyta can be very nervous at approaching those whose heart contains evil. While Ash and Pikachu can find one very quickly, Chloe has to work to getting a Ponyta to trust her.
  • Produce Pelting: Vox manipulates the crowd to throw tomatoes at Lexi, messing up his wings.
  • Seen It All: Arnold is pretty blase about giant monsters rampaging through a city. Considering all he's seen off the train, it's not that surprising.
  • Ship Tease: Dahlia is seen flirting with Mad Ben during a report about the "New Apex". A match made in hell, indeed...
  • Shrink Ray: Arnold uses one of these (in reverse) to assist challengers with growing to face the monsters for their fight.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Theseus' Ship Paradox: Trey and Troy note that a lot of...loud discussions have been held over the recreation of the ancient mural and whether it still counts as a 'historic site'.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Chloe had Ash split off to help Marnie in part because she wanted to earn a Ponyta's trust on her own.
  • True Art Is Ancient: Considering how sloppy the 'mural recreation' is, with Trip describing it as 'Graffiti made with crayons', this is likely the only reason the mural is taken seriously.
  • Welcome to Corneria: The audience in the stadium is incapable of doing anything but booing or cheering.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Hazel delivers one to Lexi for his frequent backsliding with his temper.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: Oleanna's sister was taken by the Infinity Train and never came back, and the vice-president is annoyed that Chloe came back while her sister did not.
