"Next badge, Escorting the Elderly Across the Street, should be as easy as combing Papa's back hair."

Airdate: April 26, 1999

Plot Summary: The Eds receive new clothes, but they don't like them due to their stiff and unconfortable nature. As they relax in their normal clothes, Eddy is suddenly involved in an Urban Ranger activity; the quartet of Rolf, Jimmy, Jonny and Plank have bonded together to form this particular group, and the Eds want to join for their fancy uniforms... if they can earn at least one badge. Hilarity Ensues.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Eddy appears to have successfully completed the "Escorting the Elderly Across the Street" task, only to reveal that he helped Ed cross the road instead of Nazz.
Ed: Boy, Eddy, your hand is so sweaty.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Eddy gives a MAJOR one to Sarah at the climax, and it is satisfying as all hell!
  • Broken Smile: Eddy has this when Sarah keeps insulting him... right before the former releases his Rage Breaking Point against the latter.
  • Cathartic Scream: Eddy gives this to Sarah when she deliberately shoved pie into his face and started mocking him for no reason.
  • Covered in Gunge: Eddy overcooking the burrito causes it to explode, covering the Eds and Rolf in burrito filling.
  • Death Glare: Eddy levels one at Rolf after they've been stripped of their neckerchiefs, when Jonny easily gets a badge just for bringing a barrel of lard for Rolf.
  • Doomed New Clothes: The Eds get new clothes, which are very stiff and uncomfortable. Eddy improvises a washing machine by having Ed spin in a pond, hoping to use it as a scam. Instead of cleaning them, however, this causes the clothes to crumble into pieces.
  • Downer Ending: The Eds fail to earn a single badge, lose their neckerchiefs and are thrown out of the Urban Rangers via the "Walk Of Shame".
  • Epic Fail: The Eds fail miserably even the simplest of tasks, ranging from lying in a hammock to microwaving a burrito to even something as benign as changing a toilet paper roll. No wonder Rolf lost patience with them.
  • Exact Words: When Eddy accidentally escorted Ed across the street instead of Nazz, Rolf doesn't give him a badge for it despite acknowledging he completed the spirit of the task because "big Ed is not Nana."
  • Extreme Omnivore: Ed unknowingly eats a tree branch that contained a bug, which bit his tongue.
  • Foreign Queasine: Rolf holds a microwavable burrito that is yogurt and liver flavored.
  • Halfway Plot Switch: The Eds try to make their new clothes comfortable after a dip in the water, only to destroy them and get back into their old clothes; a plot that lasts just two minutes. The rest of the episode leans into the Eds trying to join the Urban Rangers.
  • Insignia Rip-Off Ritual: The Eds are kicked off the Urban Rangers and have their neckerchiefs removed. Eddy takes off his before Rolf can take it, then plays keep-away with it.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Sure, Rolf has a reason to be upset at the Eds due to them screwing up on simple tasks, but in all honestly, he should also take the blame for the "Good Neighbor" badge since he just stood there and watch Sarah deliberately provoke Eddy when the latter was clearly trying to be a good neighbor rather than stepping in to scold Sarah for not doing her part as a good neighbor herself. Really, Rolf didn't have the right to be angry at Eddy this time around.
  • Oven Logic: Done with a microwave burrito, courtesy of Eddy (and this was five seconds after he had delegated the task to Double-D). No burrito merit badge for them.
  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: The Eds when they learn that Nazz is the stand-in Nana.
  • Pie in the Face: To win the Good Neighbor badge, Eddy has to offer a pie to a neighbor, played by Sarah. He gets the pie smashed into his face for his troubles.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Rolf gradually loses it with the Eds as they continue to fail the badge tasks, until he snaps and yells at them when they drop the toilet roll holder in the toilet, refusing to give them any more chances. When he eventually relents, he ends up hitting this again when Eddy fails his last chance (no thanks to Sarah) and ends their chances at joining the Urban Rangers for good.
    • Eddy himself when he loses his cool at Sarah, who is playing the next door neighbor.
  • Scout-Out: This episode introduces the Urban Rangers, the Cul-de-Sac's version of a scouting organization.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Rolf, twice.
    • The first when the toilet roll holder falls in the toilet.
Rolf: WEE ROACHES! NO BADGE! EVER!!!
    • And the second when Eddy fails the last task.
Rolf: EDDY!!! NO WEE ROACH! NO URBAN RANGER! NO BADGE!
  • Walk of Shame: After being stripped of their bandanas, the Eds are made to walk on a sidewalk covered in lard.
