Go To

The Belcher family has a series of misadventures at OMG Mall: Tina goes cruising for boys and ends up getting mistaken for a napping boy's new girlfriend, Louise has to rescue Gene when he gets stuck on an out-of-control animal-shaped electric cart, Linda makes a nuisance of herself at a book signing by her new favorite mystery author, and Bob teams up with Sergeant Bosco to go pants-shopping.

Tropes of the Mall:

  • Brick Joke: Midway through the episode, Bob mentions a pair of purple corduroy pants he tried on and got attached to. He mentions them again in the episode’s last line and is wearing them at the grill during the closing credits.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Tina confesses about not being Brian's girlfriend, the others think she's just doing it to protect Brian.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After essentially ruining the book reading and costing the author several customers by spoiling the book, the author signs Linda's copy by telling her to stay away from him forever. Linda thinks they're friends now.
  • Doomed Supermarket Display: Gene's scooter heads for the Grazielda porcelain store, endangering the figurines on display. Fortunately, Louise manages to disable it in time; the scooter almost knocks over one figurine before coming to a complete stop.
  • Dude, He's Like, in a Coma!: Tina sits next to Brian to flirt with him, but since she's trying to act inconspicuous and he's tired from all the football practice he's done and antihistamines he's taken, he's fast asleep by the time Tina actually sits down next to him and he soon leans his head against Tina's shoulder in his sleep before she can move away. When his friends Noah and Skye assume she's his new girlfriend. Tina just plays along, but it all gets too complicated when Brian's real girlfriend texts him and Noah and Skye assume Brian is two-timing Tina.
  • Dumb Blonde: Tammy and Jocelyn are utterly baffled by the mall directory, and ask how it knows their location.
  • Four Lines, All Waiting: The episode follows Tina being mistaken for another teen’s girlfriend, Bob shopping for pants with Sergeant Bosco, Linda attending a book reading, and Gene and Louise renting mechanical animals to ride around the mall.
  • Here We Go Again!: The Belchers are forced to stay in the mall for another hour when Linda believes that Bob is incapable of shopping on his own when he and Bosco show her the jeans that they decided on which are full of multicolored patches.
  • Hiccup Hijinks: Linda disrupts the book reading when she gets the hiccups from getting tense.
  • Low-Speed Chase: Gene's scooter gets its throttle button stuck and can't stop. However, because it barely cracks 5 mph, there is no real danger for anyone, yet Gene is hysterical like he were in an out-of-control train and refuses to just jump off because "mall floors are the hardest substance known to man!".
  • Mistaken for Cheating: When Tina pretends to be Brian's girlfriend, Brian's friends assume he's cheating on her with a woman who happens to be Brian's actual girlfriend.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: The Ani-Malls scooters are themed on animal hybrids. Gene rides a "catigator" (half cat, half alligator), while Louise's appears to be a hippo-dragon hybrid.
  • Never My Fault: Louise completely avoids taking the blame for getting Gene's scooter's throttle button stuck with the owner of the scooters by engaging in many hypothetical scenarios regarding what to do if a scooter doesn't stop throttling. The owner is actually happy to be having such conversation with her.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Yuli the security guard constantly working at different locations is finally lampshaded here. He admits he only works at places that lack drug testing.
  • Odd Friendship: Bob has a nice time at the mall with, of all people, Sergeant Bosco.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Tammy, despite everything that happened, says Tina has "mall game".
    • Sergeant Bosco forms an Odd Friendship with Bob during their pants shopping.
  • Shopping Montage: Bob and Bosco go shopping for pants at other stores in the mall.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoiler: Linda correctly guesses the murderer in the book, despite the author claiming that he left no hints in the chapter he just read from. Customers who overhear her give back the book because there's no longer any point in reading it. The author is less than amused and signs Linda's book by asking her to never see him again.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Brian and his friends are clearly disgusted by Tina essentially framing the latter and consider never going back to the mall just so they won't run into her again; even the security guard squirts her with his water bottle, telling her she deserved it.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Gene's complete inability to just jump off his scooter and overall fear freezing him from steering away from the very expensive porcelain shop.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Tina’s subplot is essentially a condensed retelling of While You Were Sleeping.
