Having been assigned to monitor the Boonboomgers, Jou wants to take it a step further and requests to be a Boonboomger himself. However Taiya turns him down, telling him that he wouldn't be able to handle becoming one. Just what will Jou do to get Taiya's approval?

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Jou takes the woman's place in the dart throwing challenge, it looks like he's going to take the punishment in the civilians' place... and then he nails the monster in the eye.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Jou hits Darts Grumer's face hard enough for it to be distracted long enough that Jou is able to save all three of its victims. Later during the big fight, Jou realizes this means the Grumer's face is its weakness and attacks it in the face, which gives him the victory.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Jou, once he becomes Bun Black delivers an absolutely astounding one to Darts Grumer, overpowering his ultimate attack and cutting it in half, then proceeding to destroy him, with no help from Taiya and the others.
  • Determinator: Despite lacking the means to effectively fight Darts Grumer, Jou does his damn hardest to hold him off, even if he gets beaten up at his expense. This is what gets Taiya to make him into a Boonboomger.
  • Deus ex Machina: Jou gains the means to transform into Boon Black when Genba passes by and gives the equipment to him.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: Darts Grumer's game punishes any throws off the center. When Boon Red hits the bullseye, his "reward" is an electric chair.
  • Human Shield: During the fight with the Neziretta, Ishiro uses one of them as a shield to block another's shots.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: The Darts Grumer's challenge involves hitting a smaller-than-regulation dartboard at a distance much further than competitive requirements - yet nobody misses the board.
  • Look Both Ways: Discussed. The traffic safety PSA during the ending song reminds viewers to look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • No Fair Cheating: Once Ishiro figures out the Dart Grumer's shtick, he immediately takes aim and fires a shot at it in the hopes of catching it off-guard. However, the Kurumaju was able to dodge at the last second and punishes him for missing the bullseye.
  • Not So Above It All: As soon as Boondorio announces a curry party, Shirabe instantly cheers and she quickly tries to cover up her excitement.
  • Pie in the Face: Exaggerated; as punishment for missing his shot on the dartboard, Ishiro gets bombarded by pies all over his body. And then said pies explode.
  • Refused by the Call: Taiya initially turns down Jou's request, but later relents when he sees the latter's passion.
  • Take a Third Option: Jou refuses to play Darts Grumer's game, throwing the dart at the Grumer's eye rather than the target.
