Go To

Robotnik is after the Power Gems from the city of Submerbia in the Labyrinth Zone. Princess Bubbles' Merman boyfriend Surff goes to Sonic for help.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal:
    • Robotnik's weapon in this episode is the Supreme Seagoing Submersible Robo-sub.
    • The secret weapon of the kingdom of Labyrinth are the Power Pearls.
    • When King Saline finds out that Robotnik has captured Princess Bubbles, he calls Robotnik a Putrid Pile of Pompous Pudginess, and later a Two-Timing Tyrant.
    • After Surff destroys Robotnik's torpedo with his Power Pearls, Robotnik calls him a Miserable Mammal.
    • When Robotnik's Robo-Ray chases Surff, he calls him Princess Bubbles' Beamish Beau.
    • After Sonic destroys the Robo-Ray, Tails tells him, "You sure fillited that flounder!", and Robotnik says, "Why, that pesky porcupine! I'll pulverize him!"
  • Agony of the Feet: When Scratch and Grounder fight over the torpedo controls, Grounder runs over Robotnik's foot, putting him in pain.
  • Alliterative Title: Submerged Sonic.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Early in this episode, Tails berates Sonic for slacking off while he is washing the dishes. Sonic then uses his Super-Speed to dry them in a second.
Sonic: It ain't the speed, it's the deed, keed!
  • Circling Birdies:
    • Miniature versions of Grounder run around Grounder's head when a lamp falls on Grounder.
    • When Scratch and Grounder argue over who should lead the attack on King Saline, Robotnik kicks them with a mechanical boot, and stars fly around the robots' heads.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: King Saline does not approve of his daughter, Princess Bubbles, dating Surff. Thankfully, when Surff saves both Bubbles and the Kingdom of Labyrinth, he not only earns King Saline's respect, but is made Commander of the Royal Labyrinthian Defense Force.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Sonic destroys the Robo-Ray by splitting it in half down the middle.
  • High-Dive Hijinks: This episode's "Sonic Says" segment has Surff attempt to dive into shallow water from a cliff. Tails catches Surff before he can land in the water, and Sonic explains to the viewers that even though diving into shallow water won't hurt cartoon characters, it will hurt real people.
  • I Have Your Wife: Robotnik captures Princess Bubbles to get King Saline to surrender his kingdom to him.
  • Literal-Minded: When Robotnik orders Scratch to fire on the Kingdom of Labyrinth, Scratch thinks a fire has broken out in the Robo-Sub, and he and Grounder fight over the fire extingusher to try to put it out.
  • Mythology Gag: This episode's events take place in Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1. The Jaws enemy from the same game also appears in this episode.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: While Surff resembles a traditional merman, having a human-like upper half and a fish-like lower half, Princess Bubbles resembles an anthropomorphic fish.
  • Shoot the Television: King Saline zaps his television with a lightning bolt after he finishes his conversation with Robotnik.
  • Squashed Flat: One of King Saline's Guards gets flattened by the door to the prison cell he traps Sonic, Tails, and Surff in when they break out.
  • Totally Radical: Surff speaks like a Surfer Dude.
  • Watch Where You're Going!: Sonic and Tails meet Surff by crashing into him, knocking all three into the ocean.
  • You Just Had to Say It: After King Saline banishes Surff from his kingdom, Princess Bubbles asks him, "How could things possibly be worse?" Robotnik then comes to the Kingdom of Labyrinth Zone, and Surff says, "Oh no! You, like, had to ask!"
