One Steve Limit / The Victors Project

Go To

As it's a series with many characters, the One-Steve Limit is ultimately averted in The Victors Project and its related works.

Same District or Intra-Capitol

General examples

  • There are many children named after the Victors of District 2.
    • Notably, Honorius, Virtus, and Justus call kids named after them their "arena children". This led to an incident where Boudicca tore up the birth certificate of a boy that was named after her.
    • It's noted in The Bonds of Blood that four girls named Enobaria attended the Institute in District 2 at the same time, with one of them being the protagonist Enobaria Malachite. They also happen to be named after the first District 2 Victor and Victor of the 1st Games, Ahenobarbus.
  • Occasionally, many names from the same district share an etymological origin. For instance, in District 9, there's Barley Vale, father of Wheaton Vale and a veteran of the First Rebellion (who was executed by the Capitol), and Barleya Clemens, a schoolteacher who survived the Second Rebellion.
  • Sometimes, if they are from the same District, a Victor and a tribute may share the same name:
    • Wheaton Vale (Victor of the 4th Games) and Wheaton the tribute from the 57th Games (and a third Wheaton surnamed Glover who survived the Second Rebellion but was unrelated to the Games), and Wren Lessia (Victor of the 20th Games) and Wren the tribute from the 57th Games.
    • Exaggerated in the case of Chevy from District 6, as altogether there have been at least six boys named Chevy that went into the Games — specifically the 5th, 13th, 17th, 21st, First Quarter Quell (surnamed Jameson), and 28th (surnamed Anderson, Victor). This is naturally lampshaded in Chevy Anderson's chapter of The Victors Project.
It's not just the district that's cursed, it's his own name. Five other boys named Chevy have already gone into the Games, including the monster voted into the Quell. He got his throat slashed open by Cora Shutter. The Twenty-First Chevy was bathing in a sparkling pool when it turned to acid, stripping the bones from his flesh. The Chevy in the Seventeenth tried to run from Boudicca. She caught him. The Thirteenth froze to death and the Fifth was torn to pieces by aquatic mutts in the live arena.

Specific examples

  • Among the District 1 Victors' families, Luster's mother and Song's father are both named Blaze.
  • There's the rebels Jon and Ryla Undersee, and Jon and Ryla Donner, the latter two being named after the rebels by their mother in a move that Haymitch describes to be Too Dumb to Live. All four of them are from District 12 (though Ryla Undersee was reaped to represent District 5). Only one of them escaped the reaping — Jon Donner, who would go on to become the father of Maysilee Donner (50th Games) and her twin (Madge Undersee's mother).
  • District 1 has sent at least two girls named Gossamer into the Hunger Games, specifically one for the First and Second Quarter Quells each. Gossamer Munroe (Second Quell) also happened to be named after her aunt, who was voted into the First Quell.
  • Every woman that ran Samson's Casino and Nightclub in the Capitol was known as Madame Nigella.
  • In the Capitol, Sabinus Snick is a Rebel Leader in the Capitol, while Sabinus Smithywick was Driven to Suicide after his Dark Secret was revealed on air by Finnick Odair.
  • And then there's Tiberias Lockwood, the Deputy Head Peacekeeper of District 4 when the Second Rebellion broke out, and Tiberius Drake, the Victor of the 6th Games. It is implied by Tiberias could be from District 2 like Tiberius due to him being a Peacekeeper.
  • There's two known people named Tourmaline from District 1, one of them being the female tribute for the 60th Hunger Games, and the other is the mistress of Gemini Boleyn (Jasmine and Jade Boleyn's father).
  • One of Bovina's sisters and Elena's daughter are both named Veala.

District Citizens and Capitolians who share the same given name (or similar)

  • Antony is the sergeant of the village Redfern in District 2. At the same time, there are the Hunger Games commentators from the Capitol named Antonius and Antonia.
  • Claudia Acte the Gamemaker was blackmailed and couldn't become the Head Gamemaker as a result. At a similar time, another Claudia represented District 2 in the 22nd Hunger Games. And of course, as per canon, there's Claudius Templesmith...
  • There have been at least 2 characters named Gaius throughout the series — one of Tiberius' classmates from training who was killed by him, and one of Justinian's co-workers as of the 43rd Games.
  • Lucrecia was the female tribute for District 2 in the 72nd Games. Lucretia Bennett from the Capitol had a Dark Secret related to her family revealed on air by Finnick Odair.
  • A boy named Marcus was the District 2 male tribute of the 42nd Games. Marcus Aerius from the Capitol was the Vice President of the Bank of Pompey.
  • There's Tenebreus Smock from the Capitol and Tenebreus "Terry" De Luca from District 2, the latter of whom was reaped for the Second Quarter Quell.

Cross-District

  • There's Aaron Barsetti (District 2), Brutus' brother, and Cecelia's son Aaron (District 8), who was fathered by Brutus and explicitly named after him. And separately, there's Aaron Mills from District 10.
  • Bear McFarlene from District 12 of the 34th Games and Bear Smith from District 5 of the Second Quarter Quell.
  • Charlie Perez-Hooley of the 50th Games, son of Elena Perez and Danny Hooley (District 10), and Charlie Lourdes (full name Charlotte) of the 52nd Games, district partner of Blight (District 7), share a Gender-Blender Name.
  • Across the series, there are two girls named Chrysalis, one from District 1 (girlfriend of Copper, the male tribute of the 54th Games) and another from District 10 (23rd Games).
  • Donovan Haye from District 9, and Miles Donovan and his younger sister that Katniss nicknamed "Foxface" (District 5).
  • Elsie Mahon, a survivor of the rebellion in District 9, and Elsa, one of the playmates of Bovina's younger sister Autumn (District 10).
  • Evelyn is the name of both District 9's only female Victor (Evelyn Morris) and District 7's new mayor (and rebel) Mack Murray's wife (Evelyn Murray).
  • Jay Murphy, one of Connor's brothers (District 7), and Jay the male tribute of the 62nd Games (District 12). Similarly, there's Mitch Murphy, one of Connor's brothers (District 7) and another Mitch, one of Rick's drinking buddies at the Saloon (District 10).
  • In addition to Jon Undersee and Jon Donner from District 12 (see above), we have the unrelated Jon Parsons from District 10, voted into the First Quarter Quell.
  • There's Satine from District 1 (40th Games) and Satin Kasten from District 8 (from an unknown Games, who was mentored by Cora).
