Mythology Gag / The Legendary Spider Man

Go To

Being a story meant to take elements from ALL Spiderman materials, there's a lot of mythology work put into The Legendary Spider Man.

Original 616 Continuity

  • The first police crisis happens because George Stacy managed to intercept a weapons shipment bound for Symcaria.
  • Peter's base costume is made of Unstable Molecules like the Fantastic Four's costumes.
  • Klaw being T'Chaka's killer is straight from his original origin rather than any of the variations created in later adaptations.
  • Tony gives Peter an armor as thanks for what he's doing, The Iron Spider.
  • Peter name drops Latveria as a place of interest that someone could bounce a signal to.
  • Daredevil references that he actually fought kingpin in the past, but then he hired Bullseye to kill him, and got Electra killed in the crossfire.
  • Ultron in this continuity is a creation of BOTH Tony Stark and Hank Pym.
  • Aaron Davis's roommate is none other than Hobie Brown. Yes, both Prowlers are living together.

Ultimate Marvel

  • Mary Jane's status as a childhood friend of Peter and her first aid skills draw from this continuity.
  • Peter's first big enemy in this continuity is The Kingpin, who uses the old trick of calling the cops on Spidey to hurt his reputation.
  • The first "supervillains" Spider-Man fights are The Enforcers.
  • Eddie Brock's age in this continuity is closer to something from this continuity in being a college age kid compared to the younger Peter Parker.

Animated Adaptations

  • Peter growing to become more of a leader and mentor calls to mind Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
    • This also a space where Kingpin's importance is central to the start of the story.
  • Peter being directly in high school with many of his supporting cast rather than meeting them later calls to mind The Spectacular Spider-Man
    • The foundation of his relationship with Gwen as well as her characterization leans on this to begin with.
    • One of Norman's catchphrases is "I never apologize."
    • Vulture's grudge against Osborn is much more from this than any other story. And even then, it's slightly differently motivated.
  • Uncle Aaron's freaked out reaction to Miles revealing his identity is drawn from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
    • As are his last words to Miles: "Just keep going."
    • Peter tying up Natasha calls to mind how Miles tied up Peter B. Parker for interrogation.

Spider-Man Trilogy

  • The spiders in this story are mostly genetically altered rather than modified in any other ways.
  • Peter finding out about his enhanced strength by looking in mirrors after sleeping it off is very Sam Rami in execution.
  • Dr. Octopus's accident being a demonstration is very Spider-Man 2.
  • Gwen trying to get a read on Peter's true feelings for her and MJ is taken from Mary Jane talking with Peter about his mind playing tricks in the second film, finally asking him, "Just kiss me."
  • Sandman's origin draws more from this trilogy, with his powers being caused by a particle accelerator accident rather than a nuclear blast.

Marc Webb Duology

  • Aunt May's day job as a nurse initially is very Mark Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
  • Uncle Ben's last true act of heroism calls to mind the first film.
  • The death of George Stacy is drawn more from this duology, with him fighting to defend Peter than saving civilians.
  • Electro's origin draws more from this version, in the sense that he keeps his electrical power thanks to being bitten by electrical eels.
  • Gwen admits that maybe in another lifetime, she might come to Oxford for college.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe

  • While Tony was captured by the Ten Rings, his response to their fire is My turn!
  • While riding out to go aid Spider Man for The Ends of the Earth, Cap tells the man trying to stop him, "Son, just don't."
    • As Spider-Man and Cap suit up to go after HYDRA, Steve asks if his costume might be a little old fashioned. Peter's response? "We might need a little old fashioned."
  • Black Widow's new suit designed by Janet sounds like her Avengers Ageof Ultron outfit with blue outlines.
    • Vision's origins here also draws from this movie as Tony helping to combine the remains of Jarvis with Ultron's core programming to create something new.
  • When Aaron Davis is looking for a new job, Baskin Robbins Always finds out.
    • The fate of Hank Pym calls to mind this movie as a shrinking character shrinks down "into oblivion" in order to save the world.
    • Darron Cross's Yellowjacket design is drawn from this iteration.
  • Janet effecting Tony and blaming him for Hank's Death is a very Captain America: Civil War reaction. And much like in that movie, Tony accepts the criticism.
  • T'Chaka gives his son the classic advice that, "You're going to struggle, so be sure to surround yourself with people you trust. You're a good man with a good heart, and it's hard for a good man to be king."
  • MJ responds to Peter's inquiry about her dating into the new school year is straight from Spider-Man: Far From Home. Where after being together over the summer, they broke up before school starts.
    • Peter's 3rd version of the Spider Armor also is described as red and black like his suit he put together in that movie.
  • Red Skull's "Champion of Hydra" looks like the monster from What If…? (2021)

Spider-Man (PS4)

  • Yuri starting off as a Friend on the Force and then The Commissioner Gordon draws more from this source than the comic books.
  • Norman Osborn discusses SELLING Devil's Breath from the first game.
  • Martin Li as a friend of Aunt May comes directly from this story.
  • F.E.A.S.T. also is a prominent part of the story starting from season 2.
  • The suit Janet helps make for Peter is the advanced suit that Otto designed for Peter in that game. Down to the big white spider and having the mechanical arms as part of his suit upgrades.
  • Aaron Davis as a reforming ex-con draws more from Spider-Man: Miles Morales than any other source.
  • Miles's stance on working with Superior Spider-Man is drawn from his final stance with Martin Li in Spider-Man 2. That I can't forgive you. It's not in me." But willing to work with him in order to save his spider brother.
