The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] Explanation Like this.
Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
1-5-1Explanation Most shikigami have three upgradable abilities, the middle of which is their passive, which, with exceptions, don't usually contribute as much to their overall power as their special, third skill. Especially if said third skill has some special perks attached to the last level. Considering how Skill darumas are a relative rarity even to particularly diligent players, it is considered extremely bad luck for the first four to all go into a passive, with, again, a few exceptions.
5-1-1Explanation An even worse mutation of the above, since many shikigami are prized for their powerful special attacks. Having all skill materials concentrating on the oft-unused basic attack is just plain bad. Unless that shikigami is Onikiri or Shuten-dōji, of course.
1-1-5Explanation On the far opposite end, this would be a terrible thing to have happen if you're building shikigami with powerful passives and basic attacks, but lackluster specials, like Shuten-dōji.
Dumb ŌtenguExplanation Ōtengu is among one of the easiest SSR shikigami to get for a new player, and is therefore one of the likeliest to be guilty of this.
"African"/"European" onmyōjiExplanation The two extreme opposites in regards to luck according to the Asian fanbase, particularly the Chinese and Vietnamese crowds. Per their explanation, an "African" player is one with really rotten or "black" luck, like the skin tone of Africans, and vice versa for "Europeans". Those among the unluckiest of "Africans" are additionally nicknamed "Chieftains", for obvious reasons. It stands to reason that this meme doesn't spread far from Asia, due to the Unfortunate Implications of racism.
Fake SSRExplanation Certain SSR shikigami like Shishiou and Arakawa-no-Aruji are considered to be this, due to their overall lackluster or extremely niche kit such that even normal SRs could easily defeat them in a fair fight. The developers have taken notice, however, and have worked to bring as many of them out of this zone as possible.
Fake luckExplanation What befalls players who manage to summon or receive for free an SSR that's either bad, they don't need, or already got. Bonus points if that SSR was given as a special prize, like for logging in for a straight year, or after 500 summons without an SSR, for example.
DEFExplanation This is by far the most common stat achievable when receiving or upgrading a mitama due to the intentionally-skewed game balancing. As such, whenever a grade-6 mitama is upgraded or earned, the primary or secondary stats have a very high chance of being DEF, thus ruining a good soul.
Gaudy ŌtenguExplanation Ōtengu is almost infamous for his selection of incredibly tacky-looking skins, with some parts of the Thai and Vietnamese fanbases even considering him NetEase's black sheep and that they intentionally designed those just to mock him.
KFC - Kyoto Fried ChickenExplanation His third skin gives him bright yellow robes, with a very avian-looking hood complete with a beak, along with copious amounts of feathers to his sleeves, making him resemble an oversized chicken.
Gintama characters populating Hell.Explanation Due to the casting of the Hell personnel: Kuromujō (Kazuya Nakai, Hijikata), Shiromujō (Kenichi Suzumura, Okita) (bonus points for these two being brothers), Kurodōji (Tomokazu Sugita, Gintoki), Shirodōji (Yūichi Nakamura, Kintoki) (bonus points for these two being friends) and Hangan (Akira Ishida, Katsura)
Aside from the aforementioned, Kagura on her own provides a good amount of laughs for Gintama fans, since she has the same name, same Parasol of Pain fighting style and even same voice actress as the Kagura from Gintama.
Bald SeimeiExplanation since Seimei is Never Bareheaded, which leads to many people theorizing that he's hiding this beneath his hats. Becomes a Discredited Meme with the release of his summer firework skin, which gives rise to the new meme below.
Sexy Seimei/Seimei's chestExplanation Due to his infamous chest-baring summer skin Tsukuyo-no-hagoromo being the first one having him show skin.
Yaoi BikiniExplanation how some fans read Yaobikuni's name
Rice BallExplanation Onigiri's name, which rouses many laughs from the Japanese fanbase and fanarts depicting him with the food. This is the most probable reason why his name is "Onikiri" in the English version.
Higekiri voiced by Mikazuki Munechika/flat-out calling him Mikazuki MunechikaExplanation If he isn't involved in rice ball jokes, he's likely going to be subject to this from the Touken Ranbu fanbase due to the sword he represents and his voice actor
Kisei's lower body. This leads to many jokes and speculations over whether he can have sex, and how if he can.
