    Fridge Brilliance
  • Shadow’s Composite Character of Sonic Battle and Sonic 06 not only makes perfect sense in case of Character Rerailment, it can also foreshadow Primes placement of around Sonic Advance 3 (Sonic Battle is AFTER Shadow the Hedgehog).
  • How is it that Thorn Rose is able to single-handedly defeat the 'scavengers' every time they're down in the jungle when she's outnumbered and the others have been shown to be capable fighters in other Shatterverses? Thorn's first attack against them gave her the element of surprise and any subsequent attacks would have had them severely weakened because they were starving while Thorn presumably kept helping herself to the berries and food the jungle provided and was much healthier than they were as a result.
  • It makes sense why every Shatterspace in the Shatterverse is completely one-note. According to Shadow, the original Green Hill doesn't exist anymore since the Paradox Prism was shattered. Each Shatterspace is a small portion of the original world, which is why each one is defined by a single concept without their other aspects to keep it in check. So this means that they operate more like examples of Literal Split Personality rather than Alternate Self.
  • Among the Chaos Council, Dr. Done-It is the one who looks like regular Eggman, if he were far more elderly. It's not directly stated how the Chaos Council came to be, but given Eggman's relation to Gerald Robotnik and his experiments with creating the ultimate life form, it could be theorized that Done-It is that Shatterverse's version of Eggman who grew old. Before he became too ancient, he may have created at least four other duplicates of himself embodying aspects of his personality (Babble his childishness, Mr. Doctor Eggman being how he was in his prime, etc) so that he could have assistance in ruling over the city while he still lives.
  • So far, the Shatterspace counterparts of Sonic's friends and Dr. Eggman (The Chaos Council) represent some of their prime counterpart's qualities. The Shatteredspace versions of Sonic's friends also follow a Freudian Trio motif.
    • Tails:
      • Tails Nine: Tails' need for emotional support, embodying Tails' Superego.
      • Mangey Tails: Tails' sense of primal instincts, embodying Tails' Id due to his feral nature.
      • Sails: Tails' dependence on others for guidance, embodying Tails' Ego.
    • Amy:
      • Rusty Rose: Amy's sense of loyalty and embodiment of her Superego in being emotionless.
      • Thorn Rose: Amy's love for nature and embodiment of her Id in letting herself be caught up in her emotions.
      • Black Rose: Amy's love for adventure and embodiment of her Ego.
    • Rouge:
      • Rebel Rouge: Rouge's sense of leadership and embodiment of her Superego.
      • Prim Rouge: Rouge's sense of deceit and trickery and embodiment of her Ego.
      • Batten Rouge: Rouge's sense of teamwork and embodiment of her Id.
    • Knuckles:
      • Renegade Knucks: Knuckles' rebellious nature and defiant against another control. He comes off as the Superego in being the most stable of his counterparts.
      • Gnarly Knuckles: Knuckles' naivety and embodies his Ego.
      • Dread Knuckles: Knuckles' impulsiveness and embodies his Id.
    • Big:
      • New Yoke Big: Big’s friendly nature and wanting to help/protect his friends. He is the Embodiment of Big’s Superego.
      • Hangry: Big’s gluttony and embodiment of Big’s Id.
      • Catfish: Big’s laziness and embodiment of Big’s Ego.
    • Dr. Eggman / The Chaos Council:
      • Mr. Dr. Eggman: Eggman's strategic and tactical genius.
      • Dr. Done-It: Eggman's stubbornness.
      • Dr. Deep: Eggman's artistic and theatrical flair.
      • Dr. Don't: Eggman's apathy, anti-social detachment and tech savviness.
      • Dr. Babble: Eggman's temper and childishness.
  • The names of the members of the Chaos Council all make sense when you think about it:
    • Mr. Dr. Eggman is heavily implied to be the leader, so of course he'd add another title to make himself seem more important than the others.
    • Dr. Babble, well, babbles like the literal baby he is.
    • Dr. Done-It is the oldest and likely most experienced, so he's done a lot of things.
    • Dr. Don't is lazy and apathetic, and the least likely to take action rather than do something.
    • Dr. Deep thinks and feels very deeply about things, being the council's self-styled philosopher.
  • There’s an irony behind each of the quotes from the Prime versions made after the Prism broke.
    • Tails:
      • “As long as I’m around, you’ll always have a wingman”. Mangey is the only Tails variant that had to be taught how to Fly.
      • “I don’t need an army, when I’ve got a friend like you, Sonic”. Sails is part of a group of pirates who believed Dread’s story about Sonic betraying them.
      • “Nothing can break our friendship, Sonic.” Nine took the longest to accept Sonic’s friendship and he turned against Sonic, accusing the latter of only using him.
    • Amy:
      • “The forest is the most beautiful place on Earth.” Thorn ended up damaging Boscage Maze, a world of forests.
      • “Hey, I may be the one who can bring everyone together but there’s only one hedgehog they’ll follow into battle” Black often only does what others tell her to do and she is the last pirate to bond with anyone. Plus it took a battle for her to bond with Rusty. Blac’s fate is to end up as The Captain.
      • “We’d follow you anywhere, Sonic” Rusty worked for the Council and later, she agreed to follow Dread’s orders. Which led to her making multiple attempts to destroy Sonic.
    • Eggman:
      • “One day, I’ll destroy that Hedgehog and the world will be a brighter place for it, lit for eons” The Chaos Council was successful PRIOR to Sonic’s arrival and we saw how New Yoke City was made.
      • “I will rule the world and no rodents are going to stop me” The Council only managed to take over a Fragment of the World and they all spawned in the same area instead of being spread out like the other variants.
    • Knuckles: “I don’t need the details, just tell me who to smash.”
      • Renegade Knucks wants to know everything and is quick to accuse things of being a trap.
      • Gnarly Knuckles is wild and highly suspicious of everything.
      • Dread Knuckles has made a false accusation about Sonic and he often orders others around while he doesn’t do much.
    • Rouge: “You might not like the way I do things, but I get things done.”
      • Rebel Rouge is the most heroic incarnation of Rouge.
      • Batten Rouge was the only Rouge variant to not start out being in charge of a group.
      • Prim Rouge is the least successful of the Rouge variants.
  • New Yoke City, Boscage Maze and No Place had the Red Shard, Green Shard and Blue respectively. Red, Green and Blue are all primary colors of light.
    • They also represent the various aspects of the Prime universe. New Yoke City represents the urban areas while Boscage Maze and No Place represent the vibrant nature and vast oceans. Meanwhile, the Grim are the barren deserts while Ghost Hill is what's left of the Prime universe and the Void is all the empty space left over.
  • Why are the Chaos Council all from the same place while the other shattered characters were placed in different Shatterspaces? Prisms are designed to divide and scatter White Light. Eggman’s evil, so he’s more associated with Darkness.
  • Why does time go by faster in New Yoke City than it does in the Void and the other Shatterspaces? Because Red Light is faster than the other light colors.
    • This is also why The Grim is empty. Violet light is the slowest, so naturally it will take more time for The Grim to grow and develop.
  • Shadow has escaped the Prism breaking. He wouldn’t be the ULTIMATE Lifeform if there were others like him. Plus shadows don’t get broken down by prisms.
  • In Prime, Sonic appears to be less willing to fight and is more emotionally dependent than most adaptations of Sonic. However this actually makes a lot of sense, and it’s actually a case of older than they think. Every single time one of his friends is the one that is targeting him, Sonic becomes lost and he rarely, if ever, fights back. (Sonic Colors, Sonic Lost World, Sonic Boom, Sonic X, Sonic Riders, Sonic and the Black Knight.) It’s not that Sonic has changed, it’s that his opponents changed to being his friends.
  • When Nine stated that Ghost Tails and him are nothing alike, it was literal. Tails had three quotes after the Prism broke. Nine wasn’t made out of the quote that Ghost Tails repeats.
  • Why did it only take the Red Shard to temporarily fix Ghost Hill? Because Yellow Light is made out of Red Light and Green Light. The lines that the Ghosts repeat appears to have been the base for The Boscage Maze variants of the characters. So Ghost Hill already has the Green, it needed Red.
  • Sonic taking inspiration from Prime Amy to talk Thorn into a Heel–Face Turn is doubly fitting, since not only is she an alternate Amy, it harkens back to Amy's talent for redeeming antagonists via her words and compassion (see Gamma, Shadow, Trip). Sonic is trying to take a page out of her book.
  • Shadow attempts to use the glove and shoe tech Sonic has to enter a Shatterspace, but ends up discovering that he still can't do it. The stated explanation is that it only works on Sonic due to regulating his Paradox Energy, which Shadow doesn't generate. However, there's another likely reason it doesn't work on Shadow - Nine calibrated the tech to work with Sonic's gear alone, changing the appearance to match the Shatterspace he's in. But when it's attached to Shadow, nothing happens. In essence, Nine designed the tech specifically to be paired with Sonic, since that's all what he was working with at the time, and Shadow is the equivalent of an unknown device that the tech is unable to pair with.
  • The series is called "Sonic Prime" because the Sonic that's trying to fix everything is the same Sonic from the original (or "prime") version of Green Hill.
  • About Nine’s Face–Heel Turn, a lot of fans were baffled by Nine accusing Sonic of being a False Friend and some even called him a hypocrite. When looking Sonic’s behavior plus actions and remembering the different timezones, it makes perfect sense.
    • Nine put Sonic first and/or thought about Sonic’s feelings on multiple occasions. Whereas Sonic never did the same for him.
    • Following on that, Nine spent weeks, maybe even months, with The Chaos Council simply because Sonic wanted to help the rebels with the council. Nine wasn’t informed about the different timezones, so in his mind, Sonic had weeks/months to help with The Grim and/or care about Nine’s feelings but Sonic didn’t do either.
    • In Cracking Down, Sonic’s exact words left Nine with the impression that Sonic meant that he wanted to take The Prism shards into The Grim and fix the prism there.
    • Sonic never offered anything in exchange for the Grim’s shard and didn’t want to make sure Nine could survive in the Grim without any shards prior to fixing the prism. Instead, Sonic implied that he wanted Nine to forget about the Grim. Which is why Nine expected Sonic to accept that Green Hill is gone. Sonic expected Nine to forget about The Grim first.
    • Finally, Sonic referred to Prime Tails as the “Real Tails”, which Nine interpreted to mean that Sonic thinks he isn’t real. So after screaming that he is real, Nine commented on not being Sonic’s real friend.
  • About Nine’s dislike for others, it isn't misanthropy as many claim. As implied by Nine’s smiling when Sonic attempted to convince him to give friendship a chance, his interaction with Thorn and his dialogue when meeting Shadow, Nine’s not a misanthrope at all. He just wants to live by himself and he doesn’t care about New Yoke or its citizens as they didn’t care about him first. Nine’s main issue is that he doesn’t want SONIC interacting with them. Due to Sonic being the only one who cares about him, Nine is possessive over Sonic and he gets jealous when Sonic focuses on others.
    • The Rebels, namely Knucks, implied they didn’t arrive to help Nine, they were only there for their revolution and/or Sonic. So Nine hated when Sonic wanted to help them because Sonic might one day hang out with the Rebels, without him.
    • When they first started bonding, Nine stated that Nobody had Friends in NEW YOKE, implying that he considered people had friends elsewhere. Because Nine had Sonic all to himself, there was nothing to be jealous of so his behavior was at its best.
    • Nine kept trying to make Sonic stay in The Grim with him to prevent him from having any opportunities to speak to anyone else. Nine didn’t learn that Sonic figured out how to travel through the shatterspaces on his own until after their misunderstanding.
    • Nine was furious and reluctant when Sonic left The Grim to help New Yoke because in his mind, Sonic was leaving him for people who didn’t want him. Nine quickly began decorating The Grim based on what Sonic likes so Sonic would be less likely to leave and he went back to New Yoke so Sonic wouldn’t have to help the rebels anymore.
    • Thorn quickly commented on Nine after seeing him, so Nine decided that Thorn wouldn’t try to “take” Sonic away from him. Plus she quickly became angry with Sonic after Nine corrected Sonic on what he would like to be called.
    • Nine met Shadow by himself and Shadow seemed insulted by being compared to Sonic so Nine remained on his best behavior as he decided Shadow also wasn’t likely to try “taking” Sonic away from him.
    • Nine briefly smirked at Ghost Tails because he believed that Ghost Tails would never get a chance to speak to Sonic again.
    • Nine insulted Tails because Ghost Tails was declaring that Sonic would always have a wingman as long as he’s around. Nine wants to be Sonic’s only friend, so he didn’t like that. The wingman statement also implied a one-sided friendship at Tails' expense, which reminded Nine of his drive for independence.
  • People claim that Sonic’s overlooked Nine’s flaws, but he actually never did.
    • Nine’s treatment towards the Rebels? Sonic wasn’t pleased when Nine confessed there was truth in the story and that he didn’t like New Yoke or anyone there. However, he didn’t scold Nine because he knows about the different timezones so he might’ve suspected that Nine left the Rebels to find him. So he would look like an ungrateful jerk if he told Nine off. Plus Sonic’s not a therapist so he doesn’t know how to talk to Nine about his trauma.
    • When Rebel asked Sonic why Nine would invite her and Knucks, Sonic’s body language showed uncertainty when he claimed Nine’s a nice guy. After seeing Chaos Sonic, Sonic likely realized someone else was pretending to be Nine since he noticed Nine’s voice sounded strange.
    • The reason why Sonic never tried offering to help Nine with The Grim and attempted to force Nine to stay in Green Hill is because he was hoping that The Prime Characters could help be a positive influence on Nine.
    • After taking Nine to meet the Pirates and ask them for help, Sonic gestured to Nine while saying it’s useful to have friends. Implying that he wanted Nine to listen and pay attention. While Nine did quickly mock it, he didn’t do so until after Dread came.
  • Unlike Boom and X, Prime has more instances where characters point out Sonic’s and Shadow’s alleged resemblance. Why? Because Sonic’s whole deal with "Fixing Green Hill" is reminiscent of Shadow’s arc during Sonic Adventure 2.
    • Shadow’s false memories? Sonic woke up with no memory of what happened and The Shattered Characters have different memories than their Prime Counterparts.
    • Shadow’s destroying the Earth? Sonic’s plan to restore Green Hill will destroy the Shatterverse.
    • What the deceased best friend would have really wanted? Sonic may have claimed that Prime Tails would have seen things his way but Prime Tails actually wouldn’t want Sonic to recklessly endanger so many people, although he also wouldn’t want Sonic to be upset.
    • Shadow’s sacrifice? In the new synopsis of Season 3, it states that Sonic will have to make an Ultimate Sacrifice to save everyone.
    • This is why Prime doesn’t show Shadow’s backstory. Sonic has his role and story.
  • Season 3 has Sonic and company pull an Enemy Mine with the Chaos Council against Nine. Just like practically all of their previous adventures when Sonic has to team up with Eggman against the new even more dangerous villain.
  • Why don't Rouge and Big have a clearly villainous counterpart the way Amy, Knuckles and Tails do? In Rouge's case, her Prime self is already an Anti-Hero with Chronic Backstabbing Disorder, so her Shatterverse selves are Good Counterparts. As for Big, he's such a Nice Guy he's likely incapable of genuine malice in any universe. (See Sonic's horrified reaction to Nine's Big mech)
  • Per Word of God, Prime supposedly takes place sometime after Sonic Advance 3. Assuming that's true, it'd explain the absence of other game characters (or, by extension, any alternate-reality versions of them) besides Team Sonic, Big, Shadow, Rouge, and Eggmannote :invoked
    • Metal Sonic had only recently been defeated at the climax of Sonic Heroes, before which he'd rebelled against Eggman. Consequently, his next canonical appearance wasn't until Sonic Rivals 2, long after the skirmish in which the Paradox Prism was broken.
    • Cream, Cheese, E-123 Omega, and Team Chaotix were almost certainly splintered or destroyed upon the Prism's shattering, and while Blaze and Silver might have been unaffected (being from another dimension and time, respectively), Sonic and company had yet to meet them at the time.
  • Fully-resolving previous multiversal apocalypses in the franchise required Cosmic Retcons to ensure they never happened in the first place, with Sonic at least somewhat remembering his experiences every time. Sure enough, Prime retcons itself at the very end, with Sonic's memories of the (mis)adventure still intact (although he never gets to talk about it before something else comes up).
  • Why does Nine have similarities to Prime Eggman despite being a Counterpart of Tails? It’s because Tails greatly admires Sonic, and wants to be like him. However like most, Sonic also has flaws and his are similar to Eggman’s, which Nine copies. So Nine inherited and copied both Tails’s and Sonic’s qualities that make them similar to Eggman. A lot of Nine’s lines and actions as a Villain are even comparable to Sonic’s during the first season.
    • In Season 3, Sonic even starts speaking more like Nine did. This is exactly why there isn’t a Scourge expy, Nine is a dark mirror to Sonic in his own right.
  • The Retraux flashbacks have somewhat altered sprites, and also very different portrayals of how Sonic met some of his friends. It's possible that due to the way the Shatterverse works, his memories are mildly scrambled, causing him to remember certain details incorrectly. Therefore, it isn't the writers who got it wrong, it is Sonic whose mind is getting some details jumbled up. Not to mention the constant action and fighting, along with all the damage he takes, can't be good for his head.

  • On Sonic’s and Nine’s reconciliation, Nine calmed down and agreed to help everyone not just due to Sonic’s words but also Sonic’s actions. Previously, when Sonic talked to Nine and Nine agreed to help everyone if they left him alone, Sonic managed to talk Nine down but they were interrupted by everyone. Sonic went to them and quickly agreed to go along with their plan, leading to Nine calling the deal off and Sonic untrustworthy. In the finale, a similar thing happened. Sonic got Nine alone and calmed him down. However they were once again interrupted. But this time, Sonic remained by Nine’s side and made it clear to everyone that they need to leave Nine alone. So Nine decided to resume the deal to save the other Shatterspaces.

  • Renegade Knucks didn't say "I've been waiting a long time for this, traitor" just because Nine abandoned the others in the Chaos Council's base. In addition, he thought that Nine was the one who had tricked them into confronting Chaos Sonic in "Double Trouble", and never changed his mind.

  • More Fridge ship tease. Black Rose becomes Captain at the end of the series. When they met, Sonic told her that he loves Captains while making a heart.

  • Why Nine blamed Sonic for everything until he calmed down.
    • Throughout his villain arc, Nine had multiple moments when he asked Sonic to surrender so that he could “Fix Everything” as early as “Grim Tidings”. Sonic didn’t surrender until the third episode and even then, he was quickly talked out of it until the finale despite being told his energy was needed to stop the disaster. When Sails and Mangey appeared to have been killed and not long after destroying the mothership, Nine called his attacks off until Sonic and the others got ready to battle Nine again.
    • The decaying would have been stopped earlier and wouldn’t have started at all, if Sonic never made any friends. Since without him encouraging Nine to help New Yoke, The Chaos Council never would have been able to make the portals. If nobody helped Sonic, Nine would have got him earlier, meaning he would have been able to stop the decaying sooner.
    • Despite pulling an enemy mine, There are a lot of signs that Nine was the one who was the lesser of evils, not the Chaos Council. Mr Dr Eggman actively smirked when he first noticed the decaying, he and the others continued threatening everyone every episode and it’s implied that he and others only brought everyone to the Grim to get the prism and get everyone killed in one go. Meanwhile Nine on the other hand, ultimately had a Heroes goal, he just appeared as a villain because Sonic is the main character and the energy went Inside of him. Even while angry, Nine didn’t start taking pleasure in suffering until after everyone began destroying his Alpha Grim robots.
    • Almost everything Nine said or did was a callback to something Sonic had once said or did. Yet this fact was never acknowledged. Nine is also projecting himself onto Sonic.
    • When they had the deal to save the Shatterverse, Sonic accidentally implied that Nine’s suspicions about how he intended for everyone else to come and attack Nine while he distracted Nine by pretending to still consider him a friend was correct.
    • When Sonic tried offering to have another deal with Nine, Sonic didn’t offer Nine anything except a Chili dog in exchange for giving up the paradox prism. Nor did Sonic apologize for implying that he wanted the prism fixed in The Grim or apologize for going against the plan to save the Shatterverse.
    • Technically speaking, Sonic made the first threat during Nine’s Lives. All Nine declared was that the world was his and make robots. Meanwhile Sonic encouraged everyone to fight, declared that Nine was outnumbered and earlier, bragged about how everyone came to attack Nine despite the truce.
    • Sonic and Nine grabbed the shards from Chaos Council together and Nine found the Grim’s shard on his own. Therefore Nine technically has just as much legal claim over the prism as Sonic does.
    • When Nine tried asking Sonic how he could keep betraying people. Instead of saying that he does feel bad and doesn’t want all of the fighting, Sonic responded by saying they trust him. (Which to Nine, sounded like a confession that he’s a terrible person who feels no empathy. )

    Fridge Horror
  • In some of the alternate universes there is a pink flicky that has an attachment to Amy, considering that Prime does pull from the games it is possible that this pink flicky is the same one that was inside Gamma and accompanied her to Station Square during the rise of Perfect Chaos. For those who view Gamma's personality being the flicky's filtered through badnik AI, it makes the twist that Rusty Rose is powered by the pink flicky that much darker.
    • Rusty Rose is kept alive by the pink little bird in her chest. If this will be playing out like how it did with Gamma in Sonic Adventure, where Gamma is destroyed, but the pink flicky inside Gamma is free to reunite with its mate, along with revealing Gamma's pink Flicky accompanied Amy to help Sonic, things look pretty grim for Rusty getting a happy ending. Though in Season 3, it's fortunately revealed that the Flicky keeping Rusty alive was a lie that the Council made up to her, as she sets them free in order to symbolize her own freedom in the final battle.
  • It seems to be pretty lucky that Shadow wasn't caught in the blast when the Prism shattered, given how Sonic repeatedly meets versions of his friends who take their worst qualities to the extremes. The games have shown that when he submits to his darkest impulses, Shadow is capable of destroying the world. In a world without Sonic, chances are no one would be able to stop Shadow if he went down this path.
  • At the end of Season 2, despite Sonic repeatedly insisting to Shadow that Nine can be trusted, the latter performs a Face–Heel Turn and takes the Paradox Prism for himself. That would make Shadow angry enough at Sonic without mentioning that part of the reason why Nine betrayed Sonic was that he refused to see him as his own person, instead viewing him as an extension of Tails. If Shadow was angry at Sonic before...
  • Of the alternate Amys, Thorn Rose grows the fondest towards Sonic by the end of the series, to the point where she stays with him while he's fading. If you interpret their interactions as Ship Tease, then she's probably going to take his But Now I Must Go pretty hard, considering her prior emotional state.
  • The series ends with Sonic and Shadow Setting Right What Once Went Wrong by preventing the Chaos Prisim from ever shattering. But if the Prism never shatters then the Shatterverse is never formed, in essence subjecting every character introduced in this series to be Ret-Gone.
