  • Comments: Has multiple Boku no Hero Academia fics, mostly for Todoroki/Midoriya ship, including some fan favourites like the Send Endeavor to the Shadow Realm series, the soulmate AU Burn and Breathe and Yesterday Upon The Stair, which is separately recced below. All of them are really good, and this troper suggests you check all of them out for yourself.

  • Comments: Has written many My Hero Academia fics, mostly of straight pairings like Izuku/Ochaco, Shoto/Momo, and even some Crack-Pairings, which are very well done. Their genre varies, but most of them have some good humor. All of them are definitely worth a read.

  • Recommended by: transparentanswer
  • Comments: Writes mostly general things (And occasional shipping fics of the Izuku/Ochako variety) but their most popular works seem to be ones where Izuku gets hurt by villains (The Mentor's Rage and Public Display, in particular). The building friendship of the cast is written spectacularly.

The Wonder Duo

  • Notes: This is a Tumblr blog for Midoriya/Bakugo.
  • Comments: This is a roleplay blog where anyone can interact with future Midoriya and Bakugo answering questions the senders ask. What's impressive about this is the worldbuilding where the audience actually dictate the flow of the story while watching the slowly budding relationship between the two. As of the time of this review, Arc 1 has just finished and the Author said that there are two more arcs planned for this.

komorebi by Calamitatum

  • Recommended by: Qrow
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: The change can't be immediate, or it’ll seem forced. It has to take time, in order to be realistic. He knows that. He’ll need to seem like a villain. But he’ll be a hero. And for that, Hitoshi thinks he’d do just about anything. Or, Someone's selling UA's secrets, and Shinsou Hitoshi definitely doesn't have anything to prove.
  • Comments: An exploration of Bad Powers, Good People, where everyone's favorite Ensemble Dark Horse is tasked to find out who the U.A. Traitor is... by acting like he's starting down the path of a villain in the hopes they'll approach him with a recruitment pitch. Basically, if you've ever wanted a non-shippy Shinsou-centric fic, here you go.

  • Notes: Future au. Todoroki Shouta/Midoriya Izuku and Jirou Kyouka/Yaoyorozu Momo featured.
  • Comments: Absolutely stunning. I cannot iterate enough just how good this fic is. The writing style? utterly entrancing. Great plot and characters!! Also the integration of social media is really well done and feels natural! 100/10, would recommend to everyone as a must read.

  • Synopsis: A woman on a mission is a powerful thing, and there are times you need every inch of power you can get. Especially if that mission involves taking care of a dorm full of students and their ex-hero skeleton of a teacher supervisor. It's a good thing she's damn good at her job of being a mom. (Or: Inko inadvertently takes over the 1-A dorm building and absolutely no one minds.)
  • Notes: This is the first entry in the Dorm Life series, which also contains its sequels, Star Children and A Place to Be, as well as its fan-sequel, Just another night by Sevi007. Here is an alternate link for the whole series.

I Am... by Swiftwidget

  • Recommended by: MrSquiggles
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis:
    • Canvas: It wasn't the cold or the bright light bleeding through his eyelids that finally woke Toshinori. It was the smell. Sickly and sterile and metallic with an undercurrent of latex. He could never forget the smell of a hospital. He was on his knees, hunched forward and chained to the wall. All for One chuckled, "I will remake you. Noumu." (Complete)
    • Catalyst: Escape is only the beginning. It's time to heal and deal with the long term side effects. All Might brushed his palms over the red rings left on his wrists. He closed his eyes, sighing deeply, and a small smile lingered on his face. He looked… exhausted and worn down to the bone, but he smiled warmly. The smile said it all. I'm here.(Complete)
    • Control: Toshinori shrugged on his new shirt, giving it a last small tug and rolling up the long sleeves with a smile. "Not too bad," he muttered absently, brushing non-existent wrinkles from his shirt and gray pants. His tail swung behind him in his reflection. A small, nervous flutter twisted in his gut. Smile, he reminded himself, It'll be fine. (Complete)
    • Collapse: "And you say that All for One - 'Sensei' - didn't do that with Yagi?" Naomasa asked. Sato shook his head, "It… It was probably a very close thing, but he escaped. We escaped. Sensei didn't get him to obey. As long as he didn't obey a direct command while still mentally vulnerable, he wouldn't have imprinted on anyone..." (Complete)
  • Contained: Naomasa huffed a soft laugh and pat Toshinori’s shoulder.“Welcome back, All Might.” (Ongoing)
  • Comments: A fantastic story about overcoming personal hardships and healing past wounds. Effortlessly switches between heartwarming and heartwrenching moments to great effect.

  • Synopsis: Hit with a quirk that sends him ten years into the future, Izuku wakes up in a world that is still reeling from the aftermath of his own murder. To his horror, the murder still remains unsolved, with the fourth anniversary coming up in just a few weeks. With his appearance bringing new points of view and evidence to light, it's up to him and the older versions of his classmates to finally crack the case once and for all. An unknown time limit hanging over his head, coupled with the residual emotional trauma that his friends experience at his reappearance are just a few bumps in the road that they have to get over, lest the case remain unsolved forever.
  • Comments: Suspenseful and well-written.

Juxtapose by readerdreamer5625 (can be read here)

  • Recommended by: Anna_Nimus
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Juxtapose. Verb, meaning: to place two things together in a contrasting manner. In this case, two points of divergence. With one boy with a useless Quirk and a Hero with a slightly healthier body, just what would change? Apparently, a lot more than what you might think.
  • Comments: Updates really quickly, as in several times a week with a good length per chapter, and is one of the few stories where Izuku gets to know Toshinori first before he knows All Might. The Quirk in question is far from overpowered - indeed, part of the story in itself is for Izuku to find creative ways in making it useful for his dream of becoming a Hero - and the attention to Izuku's friendships with his group of General Education students is phenomenal. Not a canon rehash either. Definitely a must-read.
    • Edit: The author has slowed down his pace to updating once a week after a two-month hiatus.

I'll Carry You Home by Renesvetta

  • Recommended by: Xenone

  • Synopsis: While training with All Might, it wasn’t uncommon for Izuku to be so exhausted at the end of the day that he unwittingly fell asleep without regard for where he was. It consequently became part of All Might’s routine to help his young protégé home. During that time, Izuku may have let loose more than one sleepy confession towards his mentor.
  • Comments: Fluffy fluff and Dad Might. What more could you need?

One Life For Them All (If That's What It Takes) by AthanatosOra

  • Recommended by: transparentanswer, Dame-Amaryllis
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: "Deku" is a hero whose strength seems limitless, with a quirk to topple mountains and the most powerful of foes. He is a symbol of peace, and carries the wishes of lost friends and the legacy of a past mentor on his shoulders. But Midoriya Izuku is also a quirkless boy of eleven years, with the name "Deku" being nothing more than a juvenile insult. Time and place don’t really matter though—because regardless of what he appears to be, he knows exactly what he fights for.
  • Comments: One of the several time travel fics in the fandom. The characters are all in-character and the plot is woven seamlessly you can't help but want to read more.

  • Recommended by: Animapower, MadCormorant
  • Status: Complete, with ongoing sequel.
  • Synopsis: The man was over a century old. There had to be more to it. In hindsight, it hadn’t been one of Izuku’s better ideas.
  • Comments: An impressive story where the author remembers that one of Izuku's greatest strength is his talent for analysis and his intelligence and run with it. Ensues incredible worldbuilding through Izuku's researches on All for One's past and their meetings in prison that manages that turn the world on its head in an interpretation that could just as well be canon with how seamlessly it meshes with the manga's depiction of its universe.

Boku no Hero Cinema by Zero Unit RGB

Each of our aspiring heroes gets excited to bring this fairy tale to life on screen but as the shooting goes on, a sinister shadow looms closer, waiting for the perfect chance to pounce and exact their revenge. Read, enjoy, and review!
  • Comments: A light hearted fic that keeps the cast in character, and honestly, could very well be an OVA with how much like the canon story it seems. Definitely interesting and worth a read.

Hero Class Civil Warfare by RogueDruid (Icarius51)

Special Request: Capturing the Purest Heart! by YesImAFanboy

  • Recommended by: Reppuzan

  • Synopsis: Babysitting is hard. Aizawa would say that it's even harder than Hero work. So he decides that he needs a break and hands Eri over to Izuku for the next few days. Armed with 55,000 yen and backed by his friends, Izuku faces his toughest mission yet: giving Eri the best weekend ever.
  • Comments: Fluff, sweetness, with just enough conflict to keep the story in motion. Everyone is written well (even Bakugo) and the pacing is breezy despite the fluff-centric nature of the story. A great read when you're having a bad day. Just a warning, beware of spoilers for the Internship Arc.

Blues Drive Monsters by HassouToby

  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: December has come and the city is sick. As U.A.'s second term draws to a close, Musutafu City is plagued by strange happenings at night. Young heroes are found brutally beaten, with no memory of their assailant. Buildings and storefronts burst apart and collapse. And entire city blocks go mad, their inhabitants attacking everything in sight before calming down just as quickly. The perpetrators are unknown. The League of Villains is silent. The city begs for answers. The faculty struggle to maintain normalcy, but when Class 1-A is caught in one of the incidents, Katsuki Bakugo decides to take matters into his own hands. In doing so, he sets off a chain of events that will lead the school to question everything it has stood for. One of the darkest secrets of the Hero Society has been unearthed, and what's crawled out intends to shatter the nation's fragile peace for good.
  • Comments: Appears to be a canon-divergent "term-ending" arc similar to the Hideout Raid. Nearly all the students and teachers get their chance to shine and the cast of OC's is varied and interesting. Lots of examination of the manga's ideas of morality and heroism.
    • Legitimately one of the best BHNA fics I've ever read. Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo barely get any screentime, which is somewhat nice to see (after the glut of fics focused on those three). It's not a very happy story, but it is well written, with consequences for actions examined, and some of the darker aspects of a world with powers examined. Also, has Bakugo getting expelled from UA, and then he calls out his teachers on not doing their jobs. So if you want to see either or both of these stories, check this story out.

  • Synopsis: In the aftermath of the Culture Festival, tragedy strikes UA, and Class 1-A in particular. When a new threat looms on the horizon, the students of Class 1-A must join forces with friends old and new in order to fight it, as well as uncover a secret so terrible it could shatter the public's faith in hero society forever.
  • Comments: A great fic where Mineta is beaten to a pulp by a villain and decided to quit being a hero as a result. The author also isn't shy from using some of his favorite ships, though the main ship is the OT3 of Asui/Midoriya/Uraraka.

Karma In Retrograde by Mistystarshine and Ohmytheon

  • Synopsis: When Dabi is struck by a de-aging quirk that regresses him to the most important part of his life, he finds himself turned back to a sixteen year-old U.A. General Studies student with a lot of self-esteem issues, parent problems, a destructive quirk that he can't manage, and no memory of the five years that he's lost - not the mention the fact that his little brother is now the same age as him and one of the top students in the U.A. hero course. In U.A.'s attempt to make up for what they missed and help the Dabi of the past, present, and future, he is placed with the only students that know him and have yet to find out what truly makes the difference between a hero and a villain. There, they must face the question of whether he can change or if his destiny is already set in stone.
  • Comments: This troper adores this fic. It's emotional, well-written, has really good characterization and is incredibly funny at parts. Also has a tropes page!

earthshine by Misila

  • Recommended by: Undead Fae
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: (noun, Astronomy) the faint illumination of the part of the moon not illuminated by sunlight, as during a crescent phase, caused by the reflection of light from the earth.
Mirio once told him he shone brighter than the Sun.
But that was long ago; now Tamaki is angry, lonely and way too involved in the tangled web the new case Fatgum is in charge of is. And he doesn’t think it's true.
  • Pairing(s): minor Mirio/Tamaki
  • Comments: A fic that represents Tamaki with all his anxieties and insecurities like few can, staying accurate to how he is and not limiting his character to those anxieties. It's a beautiful fic filled with suspense that is never suffocating but mantains the tone and keeps you on edge until the climax. It's tagged as a MiriTama fic but the ship is subtle enough that even if you aren't a fan of the ship it won't bother you or get in the way of the plot. A must read if you like Tamaki and want something that explores his character in depth without limiting it to his problems. There aren't any grammar mistakes as far as I can tell and the story flows very nicely and doesn't feel as long as it actually is.

The Heart Of A Hero by Dr Zenkai

  • Recommended by: severak
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: What can someone do if they find themselves always in second place? Work until you're #1, that's what! Class 1-B of the hero course will learn to come together and overcome their many heroic trials, the comparisons to Class 1-A, and the many pitfalls of adolescence.
  • Pairings: Monoma/Kendo, Tetsutetsu/Ibara, Setsuna/Rin, Hatsume/Awase, Shouda/Komori, Shinsou/Reiko, Honenuki/Kuroiro.
  • Comments: A nice spotlight fic for the oft-overlooked Class 1B, with ample humor, action and drama woven together in a well-paced plot that fluidly shifts between slice of life and the overarching plot of 1B going through their own trials and tribulations on the path to Heroism. More-or-less canon compliant until the Culture Festival Arc (most of this fic was written well before most of 1B had been given any sort of development, so a large chunk of the class has had their Quirks and characterizations subjected to creative reinterpretation). Occasional grammatical and spelling errors, but nothing that detracts from the enjoyment of the story.

Still, you can't let a little amnesia get in the way of you warning the school about the attack you know will happen during Class 1-A's field trip to the USJ. After you deliver your warning, you're beyond shocked when the principal offers you a position as a TA for Class 1-A. You accept the position in hopes that you'll be able to use your Quirk to help protect the students. It'll be far from easy, but you're determined to do whatever it takes to change the students' future for the better.

  • Synopsis: Kanna didn't expect that she would die nor that she would be reborn in a world of miraculous superpowers nor reborn as a daughter of a superhero. Nor did she expect that this colorful new world would have a terrifying dark side that she would have to be a part of.
  • Comments: A very compelling SI-fic! The fic weaves a very intricate world with world-building and major development for the major and minor characters that take parts of this fic. It has terrifying villains, well-written relationships, actual stakes and Native is no longer a racist caricature of Native Americans! Native is written to actually be of Navajo descent and his ancestry is actually a major plot as his ancestry attracts the attention of a terrifying supervillain and Serial Killer. Kanna is very endearing, funny and has to work hard to be the hero she wants to become!

  • Synopsis: They say it takes a village to raise a child. The whole of class 1-A is just going to have to settle for Yagi and Aizawa. (A drabble collection focusing on the in-between moments of BNHA)
  • Comments: This amazing, mostly Pseudocanonical Fic - filled drabble collection has inspired at least one other work on this rec list (The Many Roasts of Endeavor series by Sapphiria). There are a few outlying chapters: some futurefic, some true AU, and two metas, but they're all carried with excellent writing that makes even the AU characters feel like their canon counterparts. Additionally, it's worth noting that Clyde really gets into their characters' heads, so POV/other characters' opinions may not reflect the author's in all chapters, e.g. Izuku's thoughts about Bakugo in "Cruel".

The Dark Below by DarthPeezy

  • Synopsis: Izuku was never quirkless.
Sometimes quirks hide until they are triggered. Izuku tasted death and found it lacking, every flavour bitter and lacking spice. In the moments between death and life, he gazed into the howling abyss and it followed him home. Everything he thought he knew about the world is a lie. There are monsters lurking in the dark below, always waiting and always watching, hidden by the shadows. They wait patiently, waiting for one to sit upon a throne of crystal madness and eternal suffering. They have waited for aeons and will wait until the end of eternity. They wait only for Izuku Midoriya.
  • Comments: A lovecraftian AU featuring extensive worldbuilding. The author has stated that events from the first few chapters will appear in the final chapters and from how throwaway dialogue from the first few chapters has become major plot points, I believe it. The author manages to blend horrifying visual descriptions with surprisingly heartwarming character interactions.

  • Comments: A beautifully and hilariously written alternate quirk Izuku fic and yet another beautiful fic from recurring author BeyondTheClouds777. It focuses on Izuku, who has a strange quirk that allows him to 'dissociate', or eject his ghost from his body, and his adventures in becoming a hero. With witty dialogue, plot twists, and further development of OFA's effect on other quirks, Dis(associate) is a lovely fic and excellent read. It's a wonderful AU that already rightfully has a growing community and deserves even more.

  • Comments: So I was doing what I usually do (looking at the Bn Ha works page on Archive of Our Own for new stories), when I came across this one. I gave it a shot and I did not regret it; this story is very well-written and incredibly engaging, the plot is great, and the characters are awesome. While reading it, I was instantly reminded of two other stories on this very page: Pulling the Wires and Yamikumo, the Black Rabbit. Both involve Izuku being a murderer of sorts (though not by choice) and have him deal with the consequences of that fact; though at the time of this writing Pulling the Wires seems to have forgotten about the latter detail to focus on fluff, and Yamikumo, the Black Rabbit hasn’t reached far enough to have Izuku’s secret revealed to a large number of the cast. While I’m not saying that Leviathan is actually doing that dealing-with-the-grave-consequences-of-my-actions thing, it seems to be where the story is heading. And that’s one of the reasons this story is such a breath of fresh air to me. All in all, I highly recommend this fic, trust me, you won’t regret it.

“I’m Izuku! Izuku Midoriya, sir!” The boy replies, excited, looking up at him. And Toshinori looks into the unmoving washed out green, into milky white pupils visible behind the mess curly hair, and realizes. The boy is blind.
The boy that he distinctly saw dodge a series of fairly quick attacks, light on his feet and clearly used to some kind of training, the boy that had thrown him the bottle at the perfect height and perfect speed, the boy that has easily collected his spilled groceries and orderly put them back into the little plastic bag—

  • Synopsis: Midoriya Izuku just wants to lead a quiet, peaceful life. This is foiled by the fact that a) he can see spirits, b) his good nature demands that he help anyone he sees in trouble, and c) he, by all rights, should not exist. Helping the heroes who have fallen victim to the new quirk-breaking drug is a terrible idea for many reasons, the first and most important being that he hates attention and avoids it like the plague. But he's the only one who can help, so he does. This is, Izuku decides as he breaks in, more trouble than it's worth.

  • Synopsis: As a child, Izuku Midoriya decided it would be better if he were Quirkless than to have a power that scared everyone. Now a teenager and looking to enter U.A, he finds himself as the protege of All Might and a student of the best heroes in the nation- but there's no running from a part of you, and he's learning the hard way that you have to accept all of yourself to be a real hero.
Having been partners in crime with Izuku ever since they were children, Katsuki Bakugo is more than a little surprised when his timid friend makes it into U.A with him. He's knows they're going places with the best heroes in the world to guide them, but Katsuki also knows that his best friend is heading into a world prepared to reject his very being- and he's more than willing to pulverize it. However, Katsuki has his own problem, and he won't be able to blast his way out of this one.
As they both struggle to overcome their problems and support their surrogate brothers, Izuku and Katsuki somehow find themselves leading their class into the world of heroes- and desperately trying to protect a little girl called Eri, the first person they saved as a team.
  • Comments: This fic is different, as Bakugo and Izuku are best friends. Seeing Katsuki being protective and supportive was a breath of fresh air. Plot wise, It's also really good as this AU gave Izuku a powerful quirk from birth that he refuses to use because of the connection it has with his super villain father... Super recommended!!!

  • Synopsis: Izuku inherited his parents’ quirks, but he swore he’d never use his fire.
He knows first hand how—bright, burning, scorching, painful, terrifying—destructive it is, after all, and Izuku promised (promised his crying mother, promised his burning self, promised the laughing memory of his father) that he’d become a hero who stops that kind of despair.Even if he has to burn his own wings to do so.But when someone with the exact same pain, problems, and fears shows up... Izuku can't help but try to heal them. And in doing so, he himself may be healed too.

  • Comments: This story is so good! You think that canon!Izuku is a pure and adorable cinnamon roll? Then you obviously haven't met this version of Izuku yet. His situation in this fic is similar to Todoroki's so expect some angst. But Izuku is so selfless in this fic that even as a child, he would take the abuse from his dad just to keep his mom safe and that would shape who he becomes long after his dad gets arrested. He may be a bit over powered here as he gets both his parents' quirks (just like Shouto) PLUS One For All but I swear, this fic is SO worth the read.

With an extra "Quirk" at his disposal, follow Izuku Midoriya at U.A. High School trying to deal with villains, vigilante work, girls and... his own powers? (Spider-Man AU)
  • Comments: a Really Good pseudo-crossover with Spiderman that works in-universe as well as characterizes Izuku really well. also got a very well done version of Vigilante!Izuku while avoiding the usual make excuses for being late to school bullshit normally featured in Spiderman Stories.
    • I don't recommend this myself. Izuku is portrayed as a Gary Stu: he gets bitten by the radioactive spider almost randomly, he still gets One For All from All Might, all the girls in Class A-1 fall for him, and his vigilante work is practically excused despite it being forbidden. His only flaw is the symbiote in him, but it seems more used to make Izuku stronger than to give him a weakness. It also takes away the relateable nature of both Spider-Man and Izuku by making him a celebrity with very few hardships.

  • Comments: In this Alternate Universe fic the main cast are among the first generation of Quirked and must survive in a hateful, predominantly Quirkless world. Nearly everyone is in character, but Katsuki steals nearly every scene he’s in as he’s still the same foul-mouthed, violent pyromaniac only without the ego and is out to make life better for the Quirked.

  • Synopsis: Magic. It's like entropy—inaccessible energy in a system. To have magic is to break the rules of your universe, and to become a magical girl is to take that power and use it for good. April 10th, Izuku broke the rules of his universe, and now, with the world facing a growing, seemingly undefeatable threat, he and his Handyman get ready for the ride of a lifetime. This story thus details Midoriya Izuku's life as a magical girl in the world of heroes.
  • Comments: In the words of the author, “Crack Treated Seriously”. This story is very well-written with a compelling vision of the reality Izuku faces as an aberration—a Quirkless hero motivated to stop Residues from hurting people. It realistically deals with the consequences of Izuku’s “magical awakening”. This troper especially appreciates the original heroes the author utilizes, which feel like characters that could have been in any OVA or bonus chapter.

But Izuku wasn’t going to give up. Not now and not ever. (OR, the one where nearly everything's the same, but Izuku is Deaf.)
  • Comments: A Deaf! Deku AU that focuses on how the world of Boku no Hero Academia reacts to Izuku being deaf and the divergence that entails. Wonderfully written and worth a read.
    • It's very cute, and its focus lies on developing character interactions rather than changing up the big events. As a result, the fic generally follows the canon plot, but the butterfly effect caused by Izuku's deafness is what makes it unique. It has many fluffy and original moments, making it well worth a read.

  • Comments: A role swap AU where Ochako is quirkless and inherits One For All instead of Izuku. Still in the early stages of Boku no Hero Academia, but a good read.
    • Yeah, KrspaceT here with a shaking head. The fic is basically canon but with Uraraka as Deku in what I saw. There is no good reason to have her as Bakugo's classmate a la Izuku, or get it the same way. Such canon rehashing diminishes the potential the idea had.

  • Synopsis: Izuku wasn't Quirkless when he received One For All. Of course, it's just typical he didn't find out until Yuuei. Oh, and everyone thinks he's the most precious thing ever, as if they hadn't already. OOC.
  • Comments: Normally, I actually hate the protagonist-with-a-beautiful-singing-voice trope, but as a quirk, it comes across naturally for Izuku here, and the writer does a great job writing him and the other characters with a decent balance of angst and fluff.

  • Comments: Otherwise known as a Reverse Villain AU, where Izuku is raised a villain but wishes to be a hero, this is a wonderful fic brought to you by the author of Dis(Associate) and The Deaf Hero: Deku.
    • While the protagonist is named Izuku, he has little in common with the one most readers are bound to know aside from his desire to be a Hero and attachment to his mother. • Comments: solid story and good flow with Both Marvel and DC acting as the world's history. The OC can be overbearing at times, but is still an interesting character. Also, Izuku learning Chi like Shang Chi. The story, as of this writing, is over 100k words and still going.

  • Comments: There are two things that make it different from canon events; Mineta is one of the main protagonists, and him and Izuku go to the same school together before they head to U.A. The story follows Mineta's perspective, and the writer manages to both write Mineta in-character while also making him more likable, and the way his and Izuku's friendship is handled, and how they affect each other is pretty great. While the story is pretty similar to what happens in canon so far, there is enough difference to make it not feel too samey. Starting as a character study of a Todoroki who grew up female instead, the fic moves to explore multiple different characters and their relationships to their masculinity/femininity and each other all while balancing all the craziness the world of My Hero Academia has to offer. It was an age of heroes. Now 200 years later, the rest of humanity began to catch up... and it all started with a man gifted with Total Command over every function of his body.
  • Tags: All Quirk!characters are female; Female to male population ratio 5:1; UA is a university; Midoriya is the only man with a quirk.
  • Comments: This fic takes its premise to surprising aspects with most families consisting of a mother and child(ren); male/female relationships are a rarity; Quirk marriages exist with the addition of gene splicing (Fem!Todoroki's origin), and the idea of men gaining quirks is seen as impossible, much less becoming heroes. Once Midoriya discovers he has a Quirk in a life-or-death situation, society shakes up slowly when more and more people learn about him. The dynamic between Midoriya & Fem!Bakugo has considerably different connotations than in canon. And as the sole male student of UA, Midoriya has a lot to prove and is often a subject of interest/desire/lust (especially the latter for Fem!Mineta) among his female peers.

  • Sypnosis: Quirkless Izuku Midoriya was abducted by villains and pronounced dead at age seven. Eight years later, nine months before the new semester begins at Yuuei High, a young villain named Rabbit encounters Shouto Todoroki.
  • Comments: This time, instead of Izuku becoming a villain of his own free will, he ends up being forced into it by the Villain alliance, especially Shigaraki himself. It's a very interesting take on the Villain!Deku fic, especially in exploring Izuku's relationship with Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Bakugo.

the distinction between hope and expectation by kattenprinsen & Ramabear

  • Recommended by: Shadow State
  • Status: Dead (last updated September 2016)
  • Synopsis: Five years ago, Bakugo's favorite nerdy victim vanished off the face of earth. Even if that was the proper thing for a quirkless, useless kid to do, he never quite forgot those bright green eyes staring resolutely up at him even in the face of Bakugo's violence and explosive quirk.
The last thing he expects is to find the boy again in his final year at Yuuei- not just that, but to have him hauled into the middle of a fight by a group of bizarro villains out to smash All Might to bits (or something). Admittedly, it's hard to pay attention to a madman's stupid raving when your childhood friend (not dead. not missing anymore. still useless. still so pathetic. utterly helpless.) stares up at you with eyes that are begging for help.
Yuuei hasn't taken his rage or his vulgarity away from him, but it has given him something. Bakugo is a hero. And heroes? They save even the useless ones and save Deku he will. He doesn't have a single plan beyond that moment, doesn't need one.
Besides, when it comes right down to it, Deku has all the plans that any of them need.

His path of shattered dreams and despairing uncertainty leads him to a life he never thought he’d have, or a place he never thought he’d be, as the leader of a movement he never thought could exist.
  • Comments: A slow burn downwards spiral to villainy kind of AU here, where Izuku ends up in places he shouldn't be and there are a lot of really fucked up that happens as things go from bad to worse. Would definitely have chills running down your spine.

A Dangerous Game by tsukithewolf

  • Synopsis: When Midoriya Izuku is 13 years old, he is kidnapped on his way home from school by a villain.
One year later he is found and returned home with some scars, no memories of the events he went through, and a latent fire quirk.

Izuku has to live a double life if he and his loved ones are to survive, even if that means lying to everyone and committing deeds that he’s not sure the heroes would forgive him for. He just needs to come up with a plan to defeat one of the most powerful men in the world, maintain both of his covers in the presence of enemies and allies alike, and hopefully not forget the “real” him.

Bakugo Katsuki is certain that Izuku has been lying to everyone since the day he had been rescued. And he’s going to figure out his secret.

  • Comments: A thrilling and very psychological take on the Villain!Deku story where Izuku lives a reluctant double-life as both a villain and a hero in-training. Aside from a couple of minor tweaks (Toga and Dabi are already part of the League of Villains) the story manages to adhere pretty well to the existing canon.

  • Comments: Really good idea. Not officially a One Piece Crossover, but know use his most famous element. There isn’t need of Dimensional Trips, Characters that live in that time, even when is clear that between one show and another one there is more or less half century. And the best of all, don’t need follow the canon. The author creates his own canon, his own choices.

Entropy by: Imperium 42

  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: The greatest threat to hero society isn't those who know only darkness- it's those who were born into the light and abandon it willingly. Once, Midoriya Izuku wanted nothing more than to be a hero, but heartbreak and time have changed that. He has a new set of passions now, ones that involve money and blood and revenge- from now on, he'll be the one inflicting pain, not receiving it. But he's not the only U.A. student with a dark side, and soon, the League won't be the only group of villains in town. While Midoriya and his ex-hero allies carve a violent path through Japan's criminal underworld, a weakened U.A. and hero community try desperately to keep pace with their crimes, but All Might's successor, the new Symbol of Peace, has her own trials to deal with and relationships to navigate. Can she halt the expanse of Izuku's villain empire, or will he finally bend the society that spurned him into his new vision? All orderly systems gradually tend toward chaos. No one is immune to entropy, heroes least of all.

  • Comments: Interesting idea for a story. Izuku essentially becomes a source of change from reading a comic book about Thanos. Focuses on Shoto and Momo's developing feelings for each other, as they support each other through several hardships, many of which end up being interesting topics, such as Momo's shame upon being heavily sexualized and Shoto having to face the things which made him who he is now. Magic cards are incredibly difficult to seal, especially when the world thinks you're a vigilante. Heroes are not magicians, but magicians can be heroes. Becoming a cardcaptor-slash-magician wasn't on Izuku's bucket list, but he'll be damned if he doesn't make the best out of it.
  • Comments: A vigilante Izuku fic with a dash of Clamp verse magic. Quite a lot of world building that is done tremendously.

  • Synopsis: It all begins when Izuku is four, the same night as the day that his hopes are broken by a doctor with a single word: Quirkless. Now with series of oneshots continuing the Renew-verse!
  • Comments: Another crossover fic, where instead of the two universes being melded or with one of the characters being the reincarnation of another character, in this fic Izuku is visited in dreams by Reborn.
    • This fic is rather unique due to the non-chronological aspect of the chapters. It might feel a little jumbled, with how the chapters are written out of order, but personally this troper enjoys the challenge of trying to put together a neat timeline from all the context clues hidden within the chapters. The way that the characters are done well is a big plus!

  • Crossover with: Katekyō Hitman Reborn!
  • Synopsis: "I don’t want to die!" Izuku screams in that underpass, drowning under the sludge villain. "Why don’t you let me help you with that?" says a voice in the back of his head. Izuku doesn't have a Quirk. What he has is good instincts, unexplainable nightmares he can't remember, and a cat named Natsu.
  • Comments: An Izuku is Tsuna's reincarnation fic where the Katekyo Hitman Reborn verse is connected to the world of quirks that Boku no Hero Academia takes place in. Explores a lot of the world of quirks where dying will flames grow non-existent.
    • It's a little clumsily written at times and is definitely a slow starter, but the author makes it a worthwhile and emotionally investing read by delving deeply into the motivations of its characters. That said, the Happy Ending Override of Katekyō Hitman Reborn! may turn away some fans of the series.

  • Comments: A great meshing of both series that doesn't shy away from Izuku's depression over being punished by an unjust society for doing the right thing, or the very real injustices that can still occur within a world full of heroes. This is a story for fans of both the series as well as the characters involved.

  • Comments: A story in which Izuku is the Kryptonian Wonder Child of a childless Inko and Hisashi Midoriya. In a world where well-loved DC Comics characters like Martian Manhunter and the Green Lanterns are already in full force, the author takes a mindful look into what Izuku would be like as a budding Superman in the making.

Showing the adverse effect of Tsuna joining the Mafia unwillingly which led to Vongola's eventual downfall by the time Boku no Hero Academia starts. • Crossover: Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • Synopsis: What is Todoroki Shouto? He is the crown prince, the heir of his father's Nation. He is an anomaly, the weapon of his father's ambition. He is a firebender. He is a waterbender. What he is not, however, is the avatar. Todoroki Shouto is not someone — something — that is supposed to exist. [the ten times Todoroki Shouto, crown prince of the Fire Nation encounters the Avatar.]
  • Comments: An incredible blend (more fusion than crossover) where the various MHA characters replace the A:TLA characters' positions - such as Shouto in place of Zuko, Izuku for Aang, Endeavor as Ozai, and so forth - and goes on with its own take of A:TLA without losing too much. Primarily seen told through Shouto's perspective on pursuing Izuku, one would think that Shouto being both a Firebender and a Waterbender would've made this fusion difficult to read, but the trials Shouto has to go through, much like Zuko, shows that it's not an easy path. Told in more of snippets fashion, it's best to have knowledge of how A:TLA occurs.

  • Crossover: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
  • Synopsis: All-might does not save Izuku from the sludge villain that day after school. Instead, Kyubey saved Deku by offering him a wish in exchange for becoming a magical boy. Able to attend U.A, Deku must disguise his ability as a quirk while balancing his life of fighting witches with training to be a hero.
  • Comments: An interesting crossover between two series that similar and yet two different takes on what it means to be a hero. The author shows Izuku's struggles to keep his new abilities as a magical girl(boy) from attracting suspicion while also having to fight witches. While any of the Holy Quintet have yet to appear, the original characters have their own distinguished personalities and are as fleshed out as the canon characters. There is a huge plot point that Madoka is infamous for that happens though and it's recommended to watch up to episode 8 to avoid spoilers.

  • Comments: A ridiculous crossover based on a ridiculous series, and it works extremely well. The author does a good job capturing the bombastic and hammy nature of the the Tick and merging it in a believable way with the more grounded universe of My Hero Academia. While mostly based on the 1994 cartoon continuity, there are references and characters from the comic, 2001 live-action and Amazon continuities.

  • Synopsis: Bilbo Baggins, gentle-hobbit of Hobbiton-Across-the-Water, and Midoriya Izuku, Quirkless kid in a world where most people have superpowers, woke up in each other's figurative shoes one fine morning. The two worlds would never be the same.
  • Comments: One would never think of mixing these two series, but the author pulls it off with aplomb and excellent prose. So the premise is that every few days, Bilbo and Izuku undergo a "Freaky Friday" Flip and end up in each other's bodies for a day, and have gotten used to it by the time Izuku applies for U.A. and Gandalf approaches Bilbo for an adventure. The character development is spot on, both series are given equal weight and standing, and it's nice to see Bilbo being both a mentor and friend to Izuku when the boy needs it the most, and Izuku being an inspiration for Bilbo to do good instead of being a Reluctant Hero.
    • And if nothing else, read it for the awesome hilarity that is swole Bilbo Baggins arm-wrestling half the Company to a draw.

  • Synopsis: The odyssey of Rachel Gardner, who isn't actually as Quirkless as she once thought and has zero compunctions against using that to get what she wants. Being stuck in Japan is a bit more of a hurdle than a death sentence and a high security institution, but she and Zack have dealt with steeper odds, she's pretty sure. Plus Ultra, as they say.
  • Comments: Here, Rachel Gardner’s story takes place in a world of quirks, and the two crossover mediums combine far more seamlessly than you might expect. Having been found by the police, Rachel ends up separated from Zach and stuck in Japan after the events of the game, with no way of contacting him to let him know where she is. Soon, she's applying to U.A. in the hopes that Zach might see her at the Sports Festival and subsequently come for her, and along the way, she interacts with a fair number of the main cast in an entertaining and often heartwarming way. This fanfiction is very well-written, and enough is explained that you don’t need to be an avid fan of the game to understand and enjoy it.

Reminding Izuku that he was supposed to be on retirement for life and the next one- which is this one.
Unfortunately Hyper Intuition was a bitch to deal with in a world of hero and villain, and he thought he could take advantage of abundant human resource of heroism in this world. You'd think the world don't need more heroes, or a Vongola.

  • Comments: If you're a fan of KHR, You're gonna love this! He's not gonna be the same Izuku as the canon, though... He's a bit more cynical and not so eager to become a Pro-Hero, but hey, having the memories of Vongola Primo and Decimo will do that to you... Having the Sky Flames as a "quirk" makes Izuku quite powerful and Hyper Intuition is really useful considering the things he get into so it makes the story much more interesting... A definite must-read!!! (The grammar definitely needs work though... The author needs a beta/proofreader, I hope they get one...)

Edna's Intervention by Rose Jennison

  • Crossover with: The Incredibles
  • Synopsis: At the end of each school year, U.A. hires a consultant to evaluate the costumes the first year students designed for themselves, to make sure they are both aesthetically appropriate and safe to use. That consultant is Edna Mode.
  • Comments: A really hilarious story where Edna Mode comes to U.A. and gives costume advice to Class 1-A. The only downside is how short it is, but her interactions with the characters makes it really funny from beginning to end. For starters, she isn't afraid to call the students out about their questionable choices, like Mineta's oversized diaper, or giving Aoyama her "NO CAPES!" rant by bringing out the long list of heroes who lost their lives because of them. The cherry on top, at the end the story reveals that she and Principal Nedzu are very good friends as the reason why she came to the school. Truly one of the funniest crossovers out there. • Synopsis: Izuku Midoriya has wanted to be a Huntsman his whole life, just like his idol, Toshinori Yagi. Sadly, Izuku was born a Moon Child, meaning that his soul was far too weak to ever produce an Aura or a Semblance. But nothing, not even the scorn, ridicule, and broken bones he experienced at Birch Academy, would make him let go of that dream. His determination was answered when a chance encounter led Toshinori to name Izuku his successor. Now en route to Beacon Academy as the newest bearer of the Semblance "One For All", Izuku starts his path towards becoming the world's greatest Huntsman. How does he get there? You decide.
  • Comments: This story is a "Quest Fic", meaning that it combines elements of the tabletop game GURPS and role-playing into the narrative. The readers are able to vote in on what happens next as they're placed in Izuku's shoes. The story is always written in the second person no matter whose perspective it's following, but it manages to work regardless. While the story can have some issues with grammar and spelling, it's an exhaustive and well-executed Fusion Fic of the two series that changes a lot of The Stations of the Canon. The story is also a Door Stopper, with over 270 threadmarked chapters (and counting) allowing with hundreds of Omakes written by the author and the story's devoted readers.

    • No Save Points: Dazai Osamu was fourteen when Mori Ougai became the boss of the Port Mafia. It was unfortunate that they couldn't easily boot out the lone superpowered villain laying low in the area, but they could at least reach a compromise to not interfere with each other's business. Only, Shigaraki Tomura occasionally forgot the memo. (Complete)
    • The Ghost from Yokohama: An apartment near Yuuei was one of the last places in Japan an ex-Port Mafia executive should be at. Good thing Dazai had a squeaky-clean record. After all, he only started having his own legal documents a month ago. (Dormant)
    • The Currencies of Revolution: A mechanical whale crashes into Yokohama's ports one week, and villains infiltrate Yuuei the next. Only few saw the signs of an oncoming storm. (Dormant)
    • becoming: (A sidestory that takes place between No Save Points and Currencies) There used to be a girl who took the essence of others into herself, copper and velvet ambrosia on her tongue, until she was them and they were wholly hers. That changed when she let the tide sweep her away. (Complete)
  • Comments: This series is a fusion fic that basically takes the settings and characters of Bungo Stray Dogs and puts them in the world of My Hero Academia. Both series work surprisingly well together. For example all BSD characters no longer have supernatural abilities by Quirks, the Port Mafia has ties with All for One, and Shigaraki and Dazai meet not long after Mori became the boss of the Port Mafia. Oh, and Dazai is Aizawa's cousin. A fun series that fans of both series can and will love.

  • Synopsis: Right after he defeats Cell, a wish pulls Son Gohan out of the world he knows and loves against his will, landing him in a different version of Earth that's inhabited by people with strange powers called Quirks. Stranded from his friends and family, and with no feasible way back home, Gohan finds the resolve to make the best out of this predicament, and aspires to become a hero his father would be proud of.
  • Comments: Only six chapters so far, but this is definitely one of the best crossovers between these two shonen series ever made. Right at the start, we see Gohan visibly saddened by being stranded in a different world and cut off from his family and friends, but that doesn't prevent him from trying to make the best of the situation and try and use his powers to help those in need. Moreover, the story makes good use of a rather underappreciated character in Rikido Sato, who quickly becomes friends with Gohan and gets some nice development early on. While some of the events play out similar to the early chapters of MHA, Gohan's presence is making a rather significant divergence in them, so it doesn't feel like full retrace of canon.

  • Synopsis: Mob never aimed to be a hero, despite being an apprentice to one. He only wanted to make sure his quirk never hurt anyone ever again. However, an incident that occurs in his third year of middle school spurs him into action despite his wishes. Mob enters into UA academy, the top heroics school in all of Japan, and winds up with several new friends and much more trouble than he bargained for.
  • Comments: While joining a hero school may sound OOC for Mob, the way this is handled and how Mob goes about it is very much in character and actually make sense for him. In addition, Mob and his worldview makes for an interesting contrast not just to Midoriya (who he ends up befriending), but to the rest of the world of MHA. While Mob has an incredibly powerful quirk in a world where power means everything, not only is he afraid to use it, but he genuinely believes everyone is an equal, no matter what their power is, something even the other optimistic characters don't always believe in. Highly recommended.

His childhood friend will say he's a little weird, switches from polite speech to swears-a-lot at the drop of a hat, and has the habit of giving things away as much as he collects them. His classmates and teachers in U.A will say he's too nosy for his own good, rummages through all the pots in the campus way too much, and is often unfazed by anything thrown his way.
